Reviews of The Café at Urban Jungle Norfolk
O. C.
A decent place for a coffee and cake, but there are better garden centre cafes around. Nice location though, especially with the giant fish pond
C. V.
Excellent cafe and tropical garden centre. Lovely area for cafe amongst the plants and fish.
J.
Really helpful staff and a good selection of plants and trees. We were served by Chris and he helped us select a fig tree, explaining what to look for and how to care for it. Great service. We will be back!
J. S.
Used to offer delicious lunches, now only cake. The venue remains very attractive and is the nicest place this side of the City. However, the menu is not as tempting which is a real shame. Still the place to go if you want to check out huge koi carp.
j. f.
A great place to eat snacks, in the garden centre it's an easy place to get lost as there are so many plants to buy, and sugar cane is 30ft high. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.

So much more than i was expecting. The food was a lot more than just cafe food, freshly prepared and delicious, my pizza was one of the best I've ever had.
Loved that we were offered hot water bottles of we wanted them.
The place is gorgeous and it's lovely to wander over the bridges and watch the fish, it does feel like a jungle.
A.
It was nice to visit this cafe to experience something a bit different to the norm. However I felt that the experience really didn't live up to the hype generated by the other reviews on here. It cost £24 for two breakfasts and coffees, and I was quite disappointed with the food. My breakfast was served on a side plate, it came preseasoned with salt and pepper and we weren't offered any condiments. If it hasn't cost So much I probably wouldn't have minded but I don't feel the price was justified. Your paying for the novelty of the atmosphere.
R. T.
Super place to have a bite to eat while shopping for plants. The coffee is exceptional and the food is simple but well done. I'd recommend going in the spring though when it is not too hot as the indoor seating feels like being in a sauna.

Visited again 6months later and sad to say the service was poor this time. We were seated and then left with no menus, and had to ask for them. Then the food took forever to arrive and i got the eggs benedict which sadly must have been poached using vinegar because i could taste it over the sauce so that was disappointing because it looked lovely. We then went to pay and i told him the table number which my mum checked and he said it was 18 but my mum said 10 and im really still unsure if i paid for someone elses table, was not offered a receipt or confirmation of what i paid for and the bloke that served me was very focused on getting me to just hurry up and pay and seemed quite impatient with me querying the table numbers. Im also certain as i ordered an eggs benedict, tea and soy milk, a cheese scone and a coffee and my mum just wanted toast, which was then delivered to the table without butter im sure i was charged a whopping £9 for two pieces of white bread and butter which is downright ludicrous (i looked back at the menu online when i was home for prices) especially as the service was poor. I think the management need to address a few things here - its a lovely place but currently very poorly managed. The young waitress that served us was lovely - very polite, i think they possibly need more staff and a faster cook.

Expensive experience. It took 45minutes to get a few coffees and scones which was heavily over priced. They have plenty of garden plants, established trees and shrubs. You might have to remortgage to buy a few bits and bobs. The kids loved the indoor pond, bridge and huge fish. Wasn't offered a loyalty scheme or reason to venture back.
M. D.
The lady on the till was lovely and helpful and the food was awesome.
I had a sweet potato curry. (Which I usually don't like) and the cakes was yummy.
Just wish I didn't feel like my family was being rushed for a table though because people was standing there staring at us as we waited for a table!
P. C.
Urban Jungle is a lovely garden centre with some amazing plants, shrubs and trees available for sale. It is not the usual type of 'modern' garden centre that sells just about everything, rather a more traditional one, concentrating on things to plant.
First things first, for wheelchair users this place is a nightmare, gravel everywhere + in the café you have to contend with very narrow doorways, metal thresholds sticking out of the floor and steps. This is a real shame, but if you have wide tyres, forgiving castors and someone to assist, it is definitely worth a visit to the cafe, although you will not be able to gain access to all areas. The other downside is that the toilet facilities are of the traditional builders blue porta potty type located at the end of a long gravel drive that is separate from the cafe.
The cafe is housed within an insulated greenhouse that is filled with a rather spectacular array of plantings, within which are nestled a hodgepodge of tables, chairs and sofas. One of my photos shows the menu, but there are also specials available and the cakes are amazing, bearing in mind that they cater for a wide variety of food allergies and intolerances.
The highlight for me was the 'river' running in the café that has some really impressively sized Koi and what I suspect to be a sturgeon swimming in it. There are a couple of bridges crossing over it which would give a wonderful view, but the bridge I could reach had a step up so without help those wheelchair bound and without assistance will not get to see this aspect.

If you like exotic plants and eating in a mini jungle then this is for you. The food is basic, sandwiches sausage rolls and cake. The coffee is not bad. Once you have bought you can take your meal to a polytunnel filled with beautiful plants and a few tables. The food is not cheap for what it is but the ambiance makes up for it.
J. W.
Very quirky and interesting garden centre full of exotic plants for indoors as well as outdoors. Having just brought a terrarium online I found it very interesting to see everything up close, also much cheaper prices in here than on etsy etc. Nice food and drink too!
E. S.
Absolutely lovely! A great place to have an afternoon tea and a wonder 😌
B. W.
This place is very special. It’s a garden centre that has a cafe in the middle of it!
Such a lovely place to come and sit among beautiful plants and eat a nice meal or just have a cup of tea.
Lovely food - salads, cakes, sandwhiches. Good healthy option.
Only bodum coffee, No espresso FYI.
A. F.
Fascinating place, stuffed with lots and lots of unusual plants of every type, shape and size. Very friendly staff in the cafe and the setting is unique. The menu is quite limited but what I had was good. A place well worth visiting.
D. R.
Damn fine coffee, great selection of cakes and snacks, warm and cosy in amongst some fascinating exotic plants. You can also bring your dogs. Our new favorite place in Norwich and right on our door step.. Perfect!!
C. C.
Surprisingly huge, every corner you turn there are something. Huge variety of plants and the cafe is cozy.
S. S.
Lovely little cafe. Selection of hot and cold drinks, cake or crisps. Seating in or out with the lovely 🪴 surrounding.
c. l.
Not a big choice of different teas. Cake choice was a bit better.
J. L.
Fantastic place, beautiful plants great atmosphere. Food great
J. H.
Such a wonderful atmosphere..felt like we were in Barbados.
Had a delicious scone and coffee but felt sorry for the lady on cafe who was managing on her own ..she was great
f. m.
Loved the jungle vibe being among the plants, great service, coffee and cake. We were also greeted by a cat which is always a plus in our book
H. S.
I love this place! Lovely cafe, super friendly staff. Absolutely amazing collection of plants and pots. Great ambience all round.
P. B.
A lovely place to buy plants, eat good food and meet people. We enjoyed our visit and met some really lovely people while drinking tea and eating cake
J.
Comfortable seats, great atmosphere and delicious food.
M. G.
We had a unique experience here, when we had lunch in a converted glasshouse. It was a spectacular setting, with dining tables tucked in amongst foliage and flowers, giving it a 'jungle' feel. Menu was a bit limited we thought, but everything was freshly cooked and with very good service. The main disappointment for us was that the cafe was not on the same level, and there were no ramps for wheelchair users, so we were restricted to the area around the entrance. Also there did not appear to be any disabled toilets.
g. w. 2.
Wow what a beautiful place. The fish were amazing and my daughter was entertained by looking at all the plants around while we waited for our breakfast. Perfect tropical retreat from the cold and wet outside. The Jungle breakfast was huge and very tasty, my only small criticism was the hash browns were not crispy at all. Apart from that, lovely bacon, good runny eggs, quality sausages. Thumbs up from me. We will go back.
A. R.
Really great place for lunch and plant hunting
R. C.
The Cafe has, unfortunately, become a casualty of Covid being scaled down now selling sandwiches, cake and coffee rather than meals. I was also slightly mourning the loss of all the bohemian seating (old settees, chairs etc) inside.
Having said that the coffee and cake were good. The Jaffa sponge was excellent! Seating in now in another polytunnel outside.
I really didn't like was the fact that we were still served on paper plates, cups, forks etc even though they were recyclable. Maybe that will change in the future.
J. S.
Delicious, freshly cooked veggie full breakfast. A bargain at £8.95. Served by kitchen staff who sorted out some minor issues very quickly with zero stress. Great environment to eat a breakfast with a birthday gang. Lovely plants and koi carp pond.
C. H.
Lovely place to enjoy gluten free treats, superbly decorated jungle style with amazing indoor koi fish pond full of beautiful fish. Friendly helpful staff 😊 Also sells a brilliant variety of gorgeously healthy indoors and outdoor plants. Some cakes are a little pricey but as they are gluten free and delicious, and you're enjoying them in the jungle surroundings it's worth the little extra. Highly recommend a trip to this hidden gem😀😀
D. T.
Always lovely to visit on a cold winter's day! Although, it was not as warm as usual. It seems that they have made some alterations too as it looks much more open at the entrance and we now have to wait to be seated. Still with extremely friendly staff and efficient service. A look at the fish, especially the sturgeon, is a must.
S. E.
Lovely home made cake in relaxed atmosphere
S.
Quite expensive. Coffee came in a tin mug which made it hot to handle.
L. G.
I absolutely LOVE IT here. Such a lovely little cafe surrounded by plants. In the winter you even get a nice warm blanket and a water bottle... Oh I'm at home in this cafe love it love it love it. Well done to the owners. Just wish this was closer to where I live xxx
P. O.
Finest quality gluten free cakes! Lovely teas and coffees. Staff are quite awesome in the green and lush surroundings. Plants and trees here are mighty fine. Stand out plants are the cactus 🌵 and bamboo.
I. N.
At this time of year most plants are just sticks, it would be helpful to have a picture of the plant in bloom and also it's common name not just the Latin. The woman at the pay point however gave me some helpful advice for the plant I bought which was nice. The cakes and coffee we bought were tasty but a tad too expensive. Urban Jungle is a lovely place to visit though. Dogs on leads are welcome too.
S. H.
Relaxing spot for coffee and cake and our children loved watching the fish swimming around. Lovely service and a really nice, unique setting. It was a cold day and we were offered hot water bottles as we got snuggly on the sofa. Perfect.
J. G.
Fascinating place to visit. Well laid out. Extensive range of unusual plants. Great food in the cafe. I recommend the toasties! They even served our cake with the birthday candle we had brought along (bring your own matches).
p. g.
My first visit, I was so looking forward to it. We visited the cafe first. The ambience of the cafe was delightful, it is unique and pleases all the senses. But that's all.
I visited with my family and we decided to eat at the cafe. I ordered Earl Grey and got a herbal tea of some sort. There was no lemon served with my tea. Brown bread was ordered and white arrived. The tea was on the cool end. All of us had a jungle breakfast, we almost had to eat it as though we were in the jungle....by fingers. The bacon was too hard to cut, the sausages were tasteless. The napkins were like a low grade toilet roll and equally as small. Not enough condiments, a shortage of knives and forks which are displayed in a container on the table catching ambient dust.
There is not enough attention paid to serving .......the staff are polite but again it ends there. No one seemed enthusiastic......there is no attention to how to serve at the table....just plonking it in front of you any where is not good enough. I also felt that staff should attend the table at least once while the customer is eating.......we required a few things and had to leave the table to search them out
. For the prices paid I would expect better quality in all areas ...... condiments...knives and forks...napkins....presentation...of both table and food.
This is a unique place...... I'm amazed that there is so little attention paid to making it more than just a unique environment.
The place was busy.....but I won't return. I will visit the garden centre certainly, but take my refreshments elsewhere.
What a shame....
d. d.
Very disapointing only prepacked sandwich and a coffee cost over £9 . Nothing like it used to be nowhere near as cosy and inviting as it was and menu gone right down the pan such a huge shame
L. H.
Wonderful atmosphere in among the plants. Feels like you are in a jungle. You cannot really see too many other tabels which is nice. Very warm as it is basically a greenhouse but not unbearable. Staff were very friendly. Only had a slice of cake and water quite expensive but very nice. Car parking was a nightmare but it was lunchtime during the summer.
T. S.
Coffee and cake is brilliant. Lovely setting in the greenhouse with the pond and house plants
C. G.
Have used this unusual place for lunch over the years was great at the start has become a bit of a make your money while you can I know I always have the choice to use or not but I find £3.40 for a coffee when you're also buying a breakfast at £8.00 plus £1.20 for 2 tiny pieces of black pudding (ten pence size) a bit steep, use to have a good range of sandwiches now only 3 on the menu no children's choices either so although this being a quirky place for a coffee it has become not so good to visit for price. The nursery itself is great.
C. I. T. C.
Really nice selection of food and cakes. Very tranquil inside the cafe. Huge range of plants. Outside seating too if the weather is nice, car Park was a bit muddy as it had rained but it wasn’t too much of an issue.
V. G.
Good selection of plants but a little pricey. Charming place to eat, tables tucked in amongst jungly plants (full of cobwebs, which doesn't bother me, but some people would baulk). All dietary needs well catered for. The food is very tasty but the portions are stingy. Starter sized, not lunch sized. I felt lucky to find a dozen fingernail sized shrimp and a couple of capers in my potted prawns: it was 80% butter. Accompanied by the smallest ramekin I've ever seen, containing guac, and two teeny-tiny slices of bread. It was also served on a slate tile, so points deducted there too. I remained hungry after lunch.
L. D.
Beautiful plants, eco friendly (love the toilet!) and gluten free menu. I took my friend who's expectations were overly compensated. She loved it and we will be coming back soon :-)
Very relaxing place to go
J. C.
Great place to stop and have coffee, cake or toasted sandwiches. Gluten free afternoon tea 😇 surrounded by plants it’s fab. Only downside is on very hot days it really does feel like your sitting in the tropics
M. L.
Such a unique cafe! A perfect spot to sit nestled in the plants, secluded and private from other tables, and the food is always great. Have also had very good hot chocolates here
D. C.
Excellent selection of savory food, cakes, tea and coffee all of which are gluten free (you really can't tell). Staff very helpful. Prices are pretty reasonable too. Seating is spreadout thought a large greenhouse. It can get a little chilling in winter so wrap up warm. New carpark at the front of UJ is a great development move. If you haven't been yet you really should!
D. C.
The cafe is really well set up with tons of plants and greenery, plus a lovely pond with koi Karp in. Its a really relaxing setting to meet up with people, plus all the tables are set up almost as private booths which is a nice touch. The cake also comes in big slices and there is a good selection of tea and coffee.
J. B.
Love visiting here. Great selection of plants for indoors and out. Also some great food in the cafe, nice experience sitting in amongst all the plants on nice comfy sofas. Unique. Certainly worth a visit.
S. H.
Remarkable variety of unusual plants, and very interesting. Layout a bit haphazard. Delicious cake in the cafe.
Not easy to find.
C. C.
A must visit for amazing plants and different planting ideas for your garden. Wonderful cafe in a jungle type setting, wonderful fish pond with huge inhabitants. Lovely staff.
A. J.
Beautiful surroundings, lovely coffee, great cake!
D. H.
Wow, what a fantastic little cafe, you feel like you are in the jungle sat amongst the towering plants.
Really great coffee and food, all of the menu and cakes are gluten free.
Well worth a visit anytime of year.
Oh and although it's cosy there is still room for a pushchair.
S. S.
Great place. Nice cake and coffee. Loses one star for being a little bit cold today. Overall though a great cafe set amongst tropical plants and nice friendly staff.
L. D.
Had a delicious brunch in a fantastic cafe. A mish mash of tables are dotted in amongst all the plants creating a jungle like atmosphere. First visit here & I'll definitely be going back to this unique venue.
N. R.
I do prefer the other place over beccles. It seems to have a lot of waiting around to be seated to be served and get your food. Plus side is loose leaf tea.if you really want to have something to eat inside a greenhouse was full of bubble wrap this is a place to go to. This place has not changed in years as I remember this is just one green house years ago.
C. S.
Epic Sunday lunch. Friendly service
T. W.
Great service, lovely café. Brilliant selection of plants, indoor and outdoor.
M. M.
I love the look of the place. Took a friend. It wasn't very busy and yet all spare tables had loads of dirty plates and cups all over them
Food expensive, I ordered 2 paninis, a latte and a cup of tea = £24!
T. P.
Such a hidden gem! I was expecting it to be chilly, in fact it wasn't. The heaters had been on and with the sun it was surprising warm. Lovely setting with secluded seating. Only down side was it was smoky from the cooking fumes & stung the eyes. Will defently go again.
D. L.
The Cafe Jungle in the Urban Jungle in Old Costessey,Norwich is unique with relaxed atmosphere but also exciting. Plenty of seating amongst the indoor plants and tasty lunch food reasonably priced. Excellent area to sit after a big wander around ( and buying ) all the outdoor plants. More of a Nursery than a trendy garden centre.
H. R.
Normally quite good food and unusual surroundings but this visit we were served cold food and no cutlery. Took them an age to put it right! Pankakes and Maple wernt the best. Salads Goats cheese and onion, are good though!
A. W.
Lovely cafe with a wide variety of different flavoured teas.
Beautiful plants and flowers and reasonable prices.
The only down side is the access to the car park and the small size of the car park area.
M. H.
Brilliant place!! We had brunch and it was delicious! Casual and friendly staff.. And of course you can buy any plants that you fancy, as its olso a very efficient garden center...
T. T.
This Friday my boyfriend and I went to the urban jungle, I found it online and we wanted to see something different. We loved the place, everything is well maintained and looks, in fact, like a jungle, even inside the bar. The food was good ( we hade the bad hunter pie with salad and potatoes ), the only thing I should mention is that the crust of the pie was really hard & overcooked, but the filling was really tasty. We will come back for sure.
S. J.
A great place to get succulents and other interesting plants for both outside band indoors. Lovely restaurant. Coffee a bit pricey in my opinion.heakthy type food. Pumpkin type soup quinoa etc.
S. S.
Awesome place to go. Great food and service. Moderate prices. Great drinks. Very nicely presented. Great to sit by a woodburner and take a walk through the indoor jungle! Love the pond with giant fish!
D. D.
Surprising little find in a cul de sac in the middle of nowhere (just outside Norwich), great cafe with lots of space and really fresh food. Parking a bit got and miss (get there when it opens) and service a bit slow, if very friendly, worth putting on your rota of garden centres in the local area.
S. A.
Random find. Our son wanted a drink and the cafe at Taverham Garden Centre was cash only. A quick Google search and this popped up so we took a risk. So glad we did. Lovely experience. Small but tasty menu. We shared a baked camambert and Fritata whilst the boy had a coke, crips and chocolate brownie. Also another coke and an Ethiopian coffee for us. If you passing then go.
j. b.
Had not been here since its alterations but still a lovely place 2 find quality plants, some that are a little different. The tea rooms make for a very relaxing break.
p. p.
A huge thank you !! to all the staff in the jungle, for taking part in my departure to the Netherlands and making that's so much easier. All of us enjoyed your lovely coffees and cakes, and the service was outstanding. Thank you all kind regards Phia
A. S.
Very impressed. A lovely environment and atmosphere. Friendly service and lovely food so will definitely go again and recommend it to friends and family, well worth a visit.
J. B.
Amazing place always a fav to visit
L. D.
Lovely spot for brunch in amongst the plants. The staff were delightful. Such a nice find. Will come again next time we are down this way.
L. O.
Lovely place, lovely coffee and lovely cake. Plus a friendly, cake loving Robin. What's not to like! ❤️🐦
T. W.
Wonderful place and great cafe. Although the drinks and food are very expensive - this needs to be looked at. Make the food and drinks more reasonable, please.
J. G.
Food was really nice, place is really good , definitely visit here, only bad point was that we were forgotten about for around 25 minutes, rectified by free drinks. Maybe employ extra staff as seemed overloaded.
C. C.
Choice of seating, indoors in a lush greenhouse, our outside amongst trees and flowers. Comfortable environment. Far more interesting than a normal garden centre.
F. G.
Really loved visiting here as it is gluten-free. The jungle feel is very interesting and the plants and trees. Not your usual garden centre far more interesting.
D. F.
Really disappointing, I had a £9 tasteless sandwich on really dry bread, my friend wasnt happy with her chewy toast with Avocado either. A real shame as the place is beautiful!
A. E.
Absolutely beautiful place. I'd recommend visiting Urban Jungle to everyone. So well maintained, beautiful setting for a yummy lunch. Real quality food and friendly staff. All round lovely place.
S.
My favorite café in Norwich with no doubt. The food is nice, and cakes are amazing. The atmosphere of jungle is different and cool
S. G.
Lovely setting.
Helpful & friendly staff
Coffee not great & pricey.
Delish cakes!
Nice plants for sale.
K. R.
Great cakes and coffee in a wonderful setting!
S. J.
I was disappointed that the menu has changed to the very ordinary jacket potatoes and sandwiches. It used to be something different to make it special. Also a cup of tea is £2.80??? A coke £3.00????
B. L.
Well I have to say I haven't eaten here but the food looks good the service looks good but the places you eating look amazing dotted around this incredible garden centre of exotic plants find table if you can and eat in the tranquil surroundings of jungle like plants.
P. “. V.
Food was good, and it has a great atmosphere to eat in. You have a choice of coffee beans if you like your coffee, thats what a coffee house is meant to do, good job, most only sell you different amounts of froth!
T. C.
Great plant's, staff are extremely knowledgeable, love the cafe very different, busy today so sat outside to eat hidden away amongst the foliage.
C. P.
Wonderful cafe, food is divine, cakes are superb especially as they are all gluten free, all the food is. Glorious surroundings...... perfect.
M. B.
What an unexpected pleasure of a location, a really unique setting to have a coffee. The service was good and coffee excellent but the cake a little dry.
A. A.
Good food. Very kindly made "a piece of toast and jam" for a 3 yr old with tiny appetite , even though it was not on the menu
M. F.
Lived local for 13 years, never knew about this jem of a place. Fabulous food and setting. Highly recommend afternoon tea.
R. L.
Unique place for lunch, lovely tables tucked away in foliage and a stream running through the cafe with koi carp. Good for coffee lovers
P. H.
Unique setting....great place to visit and browse the many common or exotic plants and shrubs!! Please visit the excellent cafe and try the food....🤪🤪🤪 you wont be disappointed!!

An unusual setting with a varied menu. Gets very busy so you may not get a table, or may have to wait.
