Reviews of Art Cafe
O. O.
We had breakfast included in our hotel, but as we tried it and wanted something better we had explored some options in web and Art Cafe looked great and was located very central. I had my espresso and chose the avocado toast with scrambled egg and salmon. I can only say it was great. What I got was looking as it was in photo on web. Would try other options confidently.

We visited on 3rd January and it was lovely, we visited Oxford for a day out and this cafe stood out. Service was quick and food was amazing can't fault. Just make sure you get a seat quick as it does fill up but it's a nice cosy atmosphere. Would visit again.

One of the few coffee shops in Oxford open early in the morning!
The coffee was ok, but the crepes were totally awesome! Great breakfast spot in a lovely seating area.
S. R.
Busy cafe in a central location with tables close together.
We were on the second floor, fortunately they have a very good app to order and pay.
Coffee had an odd taste to it. But the eggs Benedict with salmon was excellent.

My family and I (3 kids, wife and I) were in the area for a little bit of sight seeing. We liked the look, vibe and atmosphere of Art Cafe so called in. They are offered either counter service or table service (via a QR code) we ordered Via the link and after a very short wait our food and drinks arrived. Between us we ordered 2 X choc milkshakes which was very good, lasted seconds the kids loved them so much, a peanut butter milk shake, which was surprisingly tasty, a Coco loco smoothie, which was like being abroad it was that tasty and an iced caramel latte, which is one of the best ones I've ever had.... And I have a lot of them! The atmosphere, the art on the walls (all for sale) and the vibe and friendliness of the staff was outstanding. Really loved it in here and it's a real shame this isn't in my home town, would be there all the time!
T. R.
Super cute little cafe in the centre of the bustling city centre. Plenty of choices and we can either order at the counter or order with the QR code at the table which will then be delivered. Sitting amidst the beautiful art works hanging all around gives a pleasant environment to chill and relax
M. T.
This cafe is the perfect location for the perfect start to the weekend: Friday group meditation sessions. Lovely tea, lovely people and good coffee
J. B.
Nice place.
If you have children don't eat on the very top floor it has quite explicit paintings.
I had the double breakfast gluten free which was quite nice.
When you order through the QR code on the tables some of the food had a GF option.
My partner had the crepes (not GF).
Fast service.
B. L.
Extremely disappointed with the crepe - too much lemon that seeped through the packaging and went all over my friend's trousers. Not enough sugar. 3 pips were still in the crepe. Crepe itself was rubbery and hard to stomach if I'm completely honest. Hot chocolates were good and well located. Good entertainment from a lady feeding the whole pigeon population of oxford
A. Ł.
very cozy café with wide range of meals (salads, paninis, wraps and cakes). plus every category had a vegan option! really good cakes, milkshake and coffee + the atmosphere of the place, highly recommend!
R.
A really cute local cafe located in the heart of the city. It has a good number of tables and was not very busy when I visited. It has a nice view of the Westgate shopping mall and a variety of sandwiches and drinks available. I liked the fact you just sit and order and pay online through a QR code on the table and they deliver the order to you 👍🏼
A. I.
An Oxford institution which delivers every time. Generous salads, which I usually take away. Recyclable packaging, friendly staff, reasonable prices.
A. N.
I really wanted to like the spot. The coffee was very average (Americano), very much like that you would get at a chain. The staff were friendly enough but not at the level of service received at other cafés. For an on-the-go coffee, it gets the job done but not much more than that. Lots of other options nearby, especially further north.
R. S.
Art cafe offers a good selection of both sweet and savory Crêpes, other pastries 🥐, and coffee ☕️
My personal favorites are ham and cheese crepe, and maple syrup strawberries one 😋
B. P.
Lovely place with delicious and fresh food made out of locally sourced produces. Coffee and cake are particularly tasty. Vegan and gluten free options. Food has a discount if you get it to go 😊.
S. S.
Amazing! We had breakfast Witherspoon cappuccino and coconut Milk and were very happy.
P. M.
Came here for lunch today enjoyed a great chicken bacon and avocado salad. Plenty of it to serve as a main meal. Then this afternoon I came back for a cream tea, again the servings were generous large warm scone with plenty of strawberry jam and pleased to find clotted cream.
Outside seating which was very comfortable with a bit of sunshine looking towards the hill of the castle.
M. S.
Food is good. Especially the scone was fresh. The environment is cute and cozy. The only drawback was the number of smokers surrounding us which made it difficult to sit for more than 5mins. At some point 5 smokers were surrounding us.
J. B.
Cute little corner cafe with a wide selection of hearty breakfast options! Friendly service!
a. h.
The Art Cafe is one of my favourite places to go for lunch during my break from work
Not only do they have upstairs seatimg they also have a lovely seatimg area outside where they also have a small outside cafe where hot drinks and food can be bought.
The Staff are very friendly and go that extra mile for there customers. Great to have this lovely cafe in the heart of Oxford.
J. H.
I had some lovely strawberry and Nutella crepes for breakfast! Quick, efficient service and nice outdoor seating, and for cheap. I'll definitely be coming again!

When I first moved to Oxford, I cycled to Art Café on my second day, as I had seen it was highly rated.
Upon arrival, I wanted to get a salted caramel brownie and a latté, however I did not have enough cash for both. Regardless, the wonderful gentleman at the Art Café stall said the brownies were too good to miss - he let me off for the money I was short; I really appreciated the gesture of good will.
Firstly, the latté and the brownie were the best I've ever had. Secondly, I never went to any other café whilst I lived in Oxford (13 months), and made sure I brought all my family and friends - they all loved the place as much as I did.
The coffees, baked goods, and lunch items are consistently high quality at Art Café. The outdoor setting is wonderful on a summer day, as there are often buskers playing close by. The staff are friendly and fun. Most importantly, the business cares about its customers and holds their enjoyment higher than anything.
Overall, I highly recommend Art Café to anyone visiting Oxford and want to thank all the staff for making my day whenever I visited!
E. M.
Casual dining for breakfast. Nice coffee, porridge and scrambled eggs/smoked salmon. The avocado mash tasted bland and I wondered if it was pre-packed rather than fresh. The cafe has a great QR code ordering system from the outside tables, in these Covidian times a good option, even if it took 2 attempts to complete the payment. Pleasant staff, keen help. There’s a cool crêpe truck attached for more casual snacks and coffee.
B. M.
A pleasant, low key place at breakfast, on 2 floors. Order at counter or by QR code menu at table. Very tasty food, efficient service. Opens early, even on Sunday.
j. c.
Visited the Art Cafe for a mid-afternoon drink & snack.
Scanned the QR code at the table & ordered through my handset.
Gorgeous food, quick service & decent prices
K. H.
Great coffee, service excellent. A bit cramped near the coffee bar but you can go upstairs to the seating and order from your table using the QR code.
M. R.
Service was prompt and friendly.
Cosy atmosphere upstairs.
Portions were large and the quality of the food was excellent.
A.
-Delicious vegan breakfast
-Friendly staff
-Variety of plant based milks
-Booth seating
-Art work for sale
-Lovely hot oat chai latte
-Serves Fairtrade brown and white sugar
D. H.
We went for the first time yesterday and the coffee was amazing, plus we had delicious avocado and poached egg on toast. So nice we went back today and had a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, which was exceptional. The staff are really friendly and attentive and there is a chilled, unruffled vibe. We will definitely be back - keep up the good work guys!
G. R.
I love this place. However sometimes is busy and it takes so long to be served. The rest is perfect. I love the food and the views. Nice place.
S. W.
Really good food at great prices. Pictures is the Spanish breakfast. They have a wide variety of beverages and food from which to choose. Even accounting for the currency exchange rate, I thought everything to be quite reasonable. Great spot if you’re in town!
P. B.
Nothing to complain. Very cordial staffs, excellent hot chocolate. Will definitely recommend.
Pro-Tip: This is one of the top ranking cafés of Oxford, truly it is.
M. A.
It never disappoints. Super tasty food and amazing drinks! Everyone has something to pick up from. Best matcha latte ever.
J. W.
Lovely, fresh food. Good location, nice atmosphere.
Very busy and the staff are a little fraught, it is a bit cramped.
R. G.
Straight upstairs to find a space, ordered on my phone using their QR code and enjoyed a really delicious baguette / panini. Excellent choice for vegetarians & vegans although a minor quibble was that they had run out of gluten free bread. Quite expensive but this is Oxford.
D. B.
Excellent, the food was amazing the staff could not have been friendlier and when the eggs were not right hey replaced without hesitation. I really would recommend to is place.
A. P.
Cozy little cafe shop that is usually full of students and art. The earl grey lemon cake I had was absolutely delicious and the coffee is good. There is art you can buy on the walls. They're a little slow with cleaning off the tables but it didn't seem to be a problem. The cafe is very conveniently located right in front of Westgate mall.
G. W.
Perfect Place if You Fancy Something Better Than a National Chain
We found this by accident and I'm so glad we did. What a delightful little place. The coffee was great and the cake was to die for. Decor is standard enough, but it's enhanced by the local art on display/for sale. They also have the longest cheeseplant I've ever seen! Definitely worth a visit whenever you visit Oxford....
B.
This is a cozy place to grab breakfast or lunch. It's warm, inviting, and welcoming, with bright colors and a comfortable upstairs seating area.
It's very convenient to the Oxford Castle and old prison, which is how we wound up brunching here one day.
The food was fresh, wholesome, and prepared quickly. They have traditional breakfast offerings as well as bagels, baguettes, salads, etc. You can also find smoothies, shakes, and plenty of warm beverages to help pep you up!
C. H.
A lovely independent cafe serving sandwiches & toasted panini with good choice of fillings. Good selection of what looked like homemade cakes on offer too. It made a nice change from all the restaurant chains there are in Oxford.
Caters well for vegan & gluten free.
Y. W.
Amazing brunch spot!
Staff are always friendly, tonnes of choice (vegan, veggie, gf), all fresh, you have the option to eat in or take away, always fast and convenient, seating inside and outside, and in a central spot in Oxford city centre.
H. C.
A really lovely little cafe tucked into an angled building, making for some beautiful and quirky rooms. The tables look quite squeezed in, but don't feel that way at all once you are seated and the plants growing around the room really add to the atmosphere. The drinks are really good, the milkshake and juices being particularly outstanding. The portion sizes are generous without being too overwhelming and the blueberry yoghurt muffin is absolutely delicious. Very pleased to have stumbled across this place on a visit to the city.
Y. L.
A comfortable local cafe with art pieces selling here! I love the homemade scone!
A. D.
Great little cafe in a convenient spot. Delicious crepes and smoothies!
G. f. M.
😍❤️ sandwiches are gluten free you can choose the filling you like❤️ the avocado cake is a winner YUUM. ❤️👏🏻
J. M.
The food is great but the first time I came to eat in it was so difficult to get my order.
I went upstairs and was told to Scan the QR code... The internet did not work and the staff did not know which one was their internet.
They told me to order downstairs and I did but the staff got my order wrong because the kitchen was too loud and they also forgot to take payment and I had to remind them when they told me to go to the end of the line AGAIN to pay for It.
Ordering food should not be a difficult experience...
F. C.
Really nice place to eat, waitress Sulamit was THE BEST THERE!!! She was so lovely, hope she stays here for the foreseeable future!!!
H. B.
The crepe is delicious, but the strawberry is overcooked / the coffee delicious 😋
D. B.
A good cup of coffee with an outdoor seating area at the centre of Oxford.
L. B.
Very good Coffee, the Sweets looked amazing. Very Well located and you have interesting arts Inside Plus a gallery
R. W.
Fast friendly service outside coffee/tea/chocolate/crepe stand.. excellent coffee.
Seating with fair cover from rain.
N. C.
We had breakfast here each day while we were in oxford. Food was great with good service and a great selection
N.
Best caramel hot chocolate! Not sure why every time i come to oxford that ive not seen this place! Staff were so friendly and place clean. Sticking to guidelines. Food is great!
M. L. d. l. v.
This place is lovely. In perfect location to enjoy a coffee and the nice views.
K. B.
Unlike most cafes I've been to, Art Cafe has a ton of options, for meat eaters and vegetarians/vegans alike. I am spoilt for choice every time I come in, and have found the goats cheese panini and cold pressed juices to be my mainstays.
The ambience is excellent, with cozy upstairs seating with a view of the hustle and bustle of Westgate. To top it off, the staff are the sweetest and have always greeted me with genuine warm smiles and all the time and support I could ask for. Wish I could rate art Cafe 6 stars somehow...
M. M.
Best cafe in oxford. Comfy, with delicious food at reasonable prices. Great place to spend time alone or with family/friends.
T. J.
Excellent Cafe in Oxford city centre
S. R.
I tried their panini and it was delicious. They are one of the best place to grab breakfast in the morning as it opens at 7 am. There were many cakes and pastries which looked yummy and would definitely try them next time. Staffs were friendly and helpful.
P. S.
Amazing food. The pasta with meatballs was out of this world!
B.
I love this place the Workers are super nice. The food comes fast and is very yummy.I love strawberry millshake.
H. S.
Perfect customer experience and paninis
T. P.
Really like this place, particularly their takeaway baguettes, which are rather delicious. 😋
Eating in is good and they have good outdoor seating arrangements.
Oh, and some good bottled drinks - quite a range and all worth a go.
A little pricey, but so is most of the city centre, and few do as good a job.
H. D.
Good seating at out side premises...attractive place
S.
Good coffee, okay tea, tasty food. Not my favourite place but definitely a good place to go.
I. T.
Excellent central Oxford location for great coffee and crepes and people watching.
m. d.
Tasty food and lovely service despite being so busy.
嘤.
Great little cafe just opposite the brand new Westgate, serving some heart-warming food.
P. D.
It has such a nice ambience. We had a coffee and a dessert. The dessert wasn’t good enough but the coffee was nice. It’s a nice place in overall.
G. A.
Delicious breakfast food!
E. W.
Really good Crepe and also loved the coffee.
A.
Nice place three floors whit table aviable plus terrace
M. B.
If you need a break from the busy city centre this is a quiet place, with good coffee and rooms full of art picture, from Bensky to Van Gogh. The food is lovely too
S. M.
I had a quick coffee here yesterday. Really good quality of coffee. The outdoor seating space was lovely with the sunshine beating down. There were lots of delicious looking treats on offer including gluten and dairy free brownies. They were also serving ice cream. And this was just the outside bit. The two ladies serving were friendly and fast. I hope to return and actually go into the main building because I've seen pictures on here and it looks really special.
D. D.
Great choice of breakfast options. I liked the art on the walls (available to purchase). Access for buggies a little tricky, but the staff were very accomodating.
K. M.
Good coffee and an excellent chocolate muffin at an interesting location in the heart of the city. Very cheerful and friendly staff, well worth a visit.
J. J.
Open at 7 a.m. serving good breakfast options at reasonable prices, and quickly prepared. Only four stars though, because scrambled egg made in the microwave - but that's how you do it quickly I guess. Also tomato ketchup bottles all empty. Would go back again though !
T. R.
Great baked beans with a side of English breakfast
I. W.
Really nice vegan options! Had the houmous and falafel salad which was packed full of veggies and a lot of houmous which was delicious. Nice selection of smoothies available too.
d. “. c.
Perfect for social distancing, superb food and beverages. I had a tasty cheese omelet with roasted ham and toast today, along with a well brewed Cappuccino. Also pretty atmosphere, tasty looking baguette sandwiches and desserts. Friendly staff. What else is there!?!
D. S.
A lot of choice on food selection and happy they served breakfast all day. Food and smoothies & milkshake we ordered were nice and reasonably priced. Only downside was the service of the waiters who did not have very good customer service skills and did not seem very happy to be there. Certainly was not "service with a smile". Would advise these young lads have some extra training. Would recommend.
A. P.
Genuinely friendly staff and fast, discrete service. The food is great - quality, choice and portions. They serve better full English breakfast than quite few pubs or B&Bs. Downside - it seems that nearly everyone now knows they're fantastic so the place is always busy.
S. A.
I spent an hour or two in this cozy little place. The hot chocolate was nice enough and staff were pleasant. I particularly enjoyed the banter between staff members, it showed the fun working environment this must be. Decor is as you might expect, with a few really engaging pieces hanging on the walls.
Would definitely recommend if you have some book-reading/laptop work to do on a rainy afternoon.
R. M.
Amazing breakfast in a cosy place. The avocado, courgette and pistachio cake is a must!
J. D.
My favourite coffee shop in Oxford. This place is a middle-priced standard, perfect for a meetup, and worth the 'trek' from East Oxford out to Westgate.
There's nothing I can't recommend here except for the drinks, which are often served unappetizingly lukewarm [if you like your drink hot, ask them to make it extra hot...]
P. P.
Very good choice of gluten free cakes. Relaxed and calm atmosphere. Nothing left on the plates!
A. c. b.
Just great food, fair prices, Amazing coffee.
R. M.
Great place, especially for breakfast with really good vegan options. Could do with slightly more regular cleaning in my opinion but overall a lovely place.
J. B.
The coffee is very delicious. Friendly place
B. L.
Excellent food, but Social Distancing was not existent in the seating area. Tables really close together. You back in practically touching the person behind. The counter area is spaced out with markers but thats as far as covid secure they get. I also didnt see anything about track and trace. Seems they are more. Interested in money than peoples health. They need to take tables away to allow social distancing.
J. H.
Nothing particularly special about this breakfast. The service was okay, but not overly friendly. The food okay, but lacked flavour. I couldn't help but think I'd have done almost as well at the Weatherspoons around the corner. That said, the latte was nice.
R. A.
A great range of breakfast choices, which they altered to suit our individual tastes, a very good coffee - and rounded off with a delicious cake! Service was surprisingly fast considering how busy they were. Very clean, staff were round regularly clearing tables. Decor, as the name suggests, covered in artwork which is for sale - a really great start to our Saturday in Oxford!
N. c.
Great cafe. Not too busy when we visited on a rainy Saturday afternoon. We managed to get a 1st floor window seat for tea and cake.
h.
They have absolutely delicious sandwiches and salads I really really recommend going!!
E. B.
The food is good but the staff isn't that friendly or organised. I waited about an hour to get my panini and didn't get any sort of compensation for my long wait. So if you go there, definitely take away.
C. D.
Lovely little (really little!) independent coffee shop right outside the Westgate Centre in Oxford. Friendly and welcoming, they make a good cup of coffee. There's more seating upstairs if the ground floor is crowded and the outside tables are nice on a fine day.
س. ا.
A beautiful place to drink coffee or having breakfast
Especially for those who are interested in coffee .
A. B.
Stopped for a quick couple of pastries on Friday morning and was not disappointed. Grabbed an almond croissant and a pain AU chocolate. Both were light and flaky and just the right amounts of everything.
Nice little spot I would visit again if I make it back to Oxford.
B. N.
Nice prices and a cute place, service could be a bit friendlier and some of the tables were dirty
W. U.
Was lovely for breakfast went with my other half would recommend for a lovely breakfast next to the Westgate centre for a days out shopping.
You order off you're phone by scanning the QR Code on the table
m. g.
Great food cooked fresh. You pay for the quality & beware the sneaky extra 17% tip added to the bill when using the online ordering from the table!
E. R.
Bustling and vibrant cafe serving great English breakfasts and other fare along with smoothies cakes coffee etc.
It's on three levels, withbdifferent art and atmospheres.. its light and airy with good views of the street and it's great for people watching and relaxing.
Enjoyed the art on the walls too.
M. S.
Just what was needed. Great to find somewhere open at 8am serving delicious breakfast fayre. Succulent sausages, and everything freshly prepared. Thank you :-)
J. W.
Really cool cafe with artwork everywhere and two stories of seating. Highly recommend the matcha latte and brownies!
I. L.
Very popular and packed with students. Luckily we got a table. Would come back anytime.
N. B.
Friendly staff , great tasting cappa 👌🏼
L. O. S.
This place has somewhat questionable art. It changes often which is very good. Sometimes good sometimes bad but the coffee and atmosphere is very good. The best cafe in Oxford and I have tried most of them. The location is ideal and has three floors to pick from.
C. C.
Lovely service from Giovanna super friendly!!! Art cafe the place to be even being super budy they take care of your order smilling and in a good mood very good vibes will definetly go back!
T. V.
What a good location, 3 floors of sitting area, amazing menu, but...the products which they use for meals tastes like cheapest and not fresh at all, I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but me, my friend and my baby couldn't finish our meals which sounded so amazing. And funny thing about sitting area, they don't have music, and they not allowing people to listen to it.
J. T.
This an amazing place. A jewel hidden in plain sight. The food is great the staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommended 👌
A. M.
Lovely little cafe, especially when you can sit outside and listen to the street performers. Cake slices were generous and delicious! Customer service from the outside kiosk was lovely, however inside staff were a bit unhelpful.
c. b.
Totally worth it : good and fresh food, and perfect size for the price!
L. P.
Good experience of afternoon tea: great value: fresh, delicious scones! Tea really could come in the tea pot rather mug, which is the only element I wasn't overly pleased. We have never had an afternoon tea served in the mug. Something new I guess.. Vegans & vegetarians welcome! Place is clean and well decorated with quirky paintings, I personally really liked! There is Wi-Fi available! Staff are also super friendly!
N. P.
Lovely place to grab breakfast in the morning. They serve giant omelettes and great coffee alongside a great view from their upper level seating. Classic breakfast with spectacular interior design and tons of options.
C. H.
This is a nice cosy cafe just outside Westgate. The prices are relatively cheap for Oxford: slightly cheaper than the nearby Costa. The seating is quite tight but with a small group this shouldn't be a problem most of the day. At busier times I can imagine it would be a bit cramped. The staff are friendly and the coffee and cakes are good. Art on the walls can be a little generic for a self titled art cafe but it seems to all be local artists which is good to see, and the whole atmosphere is pleasant anyway.
The stairs are quite steep so it isn't really accessible, and older people may struggle beyond the first floor.
R.
This place is great and has variety in gluten free options and milk.
Also, this is my favorite coffee in Oxford and trust me I am picky with my coffee.
But please fix your wifi.
S. C.
Great cosy café in the centre of Oxford. It's very popular and gets busy - a good sign! Plenty of options for gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian diets. The coffee and food were excellent and the service was pretty quick, even when the place was full.
M. R.
I very much like this little cafe, it's one of a few in Oxford centre, which is not a part of a massive chain, so bonus points for that!
Coffees are very good, prices reasonable.
They do very nice salads - to eat in and take away plus plenty of other lunch options ( baked potatoes, sarnies, panninies, etc.)
Staff always smiley!
H. N.
I really like the Art café, they have a lovely selection of cakes in the display as you walk in, along with baguettes with various fillings. if you want something specific they are happy to make it, but for me the real winner here is the breakfasts! I love the hot baguettes and the porridge. a great way to start the day.
N. A. L. W.
Fantastic little cafe with plenty of tables over three floors. Really good range of gluten free options, both savoury and sweet. The staff are kind and they also offer a discount for students and equity members.
L. S. M.
Cozy cafe with a surprisingly huge menu and decent prices. Only problems are that you have to wait for your order in the small counter area and there's not a lot of seating upstairs. But the style is quirky and fun and its open unusually late, til about 7, so you can even grab dinner.
A. H.
At first I thought this cafe seemed a little expensive; also slightly awkward, bcause I had to carry my hot drinks up several flights of stairs. But I am so glad that I stuck with it! This is easily the best breakfast you'll find in Oxford.- with probably the nicest sausages that I've eaten in a long time. We came back eagerly the next day and had the same again - delicious!
E. S.
Excellent place for lunch. The staff are always friendly, and the food is reasonably priced. The menu is extensive including hot and cold lunch options, and you're never left waiting too long. Quite a lot of seating over two floors.
M. S.
A good variety of food to choose from. Not too expensive. Fast service. Only down side would be that there isn't a lot of seating but there has always been a few tables available every time I've visited. I really love all the artwork that changes every so often which is all available to purchase.
A. M.
Lovely coffee place to chill out for the day. Tried the cortado and cappuccino. Got bunch of breakfast food as well. Cheers!
P. R.
Great coffee and the crepes are wonderful. Its a great location to sit and listening to any music in the centre square
M. P.
It is located in a very good area, it has fast service, very kind staff, and it is very nice that they put the umbrellas so that someone can sit even when it is raining ... I like it very much
M. P.
Food was great good portions.
K. S.
Always lovely, good food and quick service.
K. D.
Good choice on the menu ,nice ambience and really enjoyed our lunch
A. W.
Great independent cage in the heart of Oxford. Catering for vegeterians and vegans. No good if you're in a wheelchair as there are 3 floors. Great place to see local artists work too. Lovely coffee and cake.
B. T.
Lovely place, great atmosphere and good food. Will definitely visit again when in town
D. G.
This cafe offers a large selection of tasty food. At lunchtimes it can be difficult to find a table. If you are looking for some peace and quiet in the centre of the city this is an ideal place outside of peak times such as lunch.
i. m.
What a beautiful breakfast, cheerful service in a busy cafe with good seat spacing and colourful art. Most enjoyable 🤗
J. R.
The most beautiful coffee in the city!! I swear this IS the best go to coffee house in Oxford. Must also try their food sometime.
R. H.
Very friendly, quick service, great coffee and choice of sweet and savoury, warming crepes

Popped in for lunch with our two kids. They enjoyed their pasta and smoothies. We had coffee and a hot meal. All very tasty, reasonably priced. Much better than going to a chain.
M. W.
Cute place to drop in and grab a cup of coffee or tea has a nice seating area upstairs - got the tea and scone deal which is 4.50 pounds for the drink and scone. Features art from local artists on the wall and sells prints to interested customers.
S. B.
Excellent coffee and brownies, apparently their crepes are even better but didn't get to try one
M. O.
Good wholesome food. Fantastic selection of cakes. Eat in or takeaway offered. Very popular so busy busy at times. Unfortunately some customers hog the free WiFi with a solitary coffee blocking tables.
C. L. (.
Art Cafe is definitely at the top my list of favourite cafes in Oxford! The staff are very friendly and polite, and the cafe has such a welcoming atmosphere. With 2 floors of cozy seating area as well as space outside by the landmark Bonn Square, it's really well situated and perfectly accessible from the new Westgate shopping centre.
The cafe also has a loyalty scheme on drinks and food, which is really beneficial if, like me, you visit regularly. They have a bountee card which collects points from each purchase, and these points can be exchanged for hot meals, baguettes/sandwiches/wraps, or even cakes.
J. D.
Three storeys tall, this cosy cafe is surprisingly quiet for a central Oxford coffee shop. The coffee is well made and good and there is a decent selection of teas. Some of the best sandwiches in town, paninis and baked potatoes. Good options for vegan, vegetarian and gluten free eating, including some amazing cakes - the courgette and avocado cake has to be tasted to be believed.
D. S.
I could talk about the fantastic and varied menu, I could talk about the incredible coffee, I could talk about the carefully considered and super vibrant decor, but it would be a shame to pull focus away from the wonderfully friendly atmosphere created by the amazing staff, who make the place what it is. Whether taking away, or sitting in you'll leave the Art Cafe with a big smile slapped across your face :)
J. L.
Small cafe but is very central. It is just opposite to the Westgate shopping centre. I ordered a big brunch and costs £7.95. It is massive. They serve English breakfast the whole day, and it comes with lots of choice on sandwiches and baguettes.
S. C.
Having walked past the ART CAFE multiple times for over 5 years, I for some reason never ventured inside. A few days ago I did and now I wish I had every other day beforehand! Delicious full cooked breakfast with high quality ingredients! The sausage was one of the best and all the ingredients from the tomatoes to the bacon were cooked prefectly. I have been every day since and it seems to just get better and better! . It's the best full English you will find in oxford ( in my opinion and I have tried a lot!). Great value, great service, all in all a really great place!
D. B.
I really like this place, a guaranteed destination when I have guests staying to show off the best parts of oxford. The food is excellent and quite quick too. They have places to plugin your laptop if you have work to do as well.
L. S.
PROS:
- quite a menu (sweet and savoury things),
- good coffee and tea,
- tasty fresh sandwiches,
- lost of room to sit (on two floors; you pay downstairs),
- the only cafe around the castle to be open earlier on a Saturday,
- friendly staff.
CONS:
- the place could do with a bit of refurbishing and dusting (spiderwebs around the lights on the ceiling),
- very small counter area (it gets really crowded if there's more than 4 people trying to order/pay for something).
S. F.
Good coffee, good food, and a lovely small cafe ambience. New QR code based ordering system great for COVID-19 safety.
A. P.
Love this cafe. Menu great for all... Vegetarian vegan gluten free. Cosy and steep flights of stairs to get to seating area but have outdoor tables in summer.
D. R.
Nice food but rather limited choice for gluten free, vegan options... I miss the marinated tofu offering.
E. H.
Very nice place, I go there almost every morning on my way to work.
Good croissant, good coffee, nice service, good sandwiches all of that for a very fair price.
Recommend it 100% :)
S. A.
My favourite cafe in Oxford. The breakfast is amazing, pastries are yummy and the coffee exquisite. The ambience is really nice - I've spent countless hours here!
D. P.
The Blackcurrant Flapjack was delicious. Good fast service. You can see them prepare food behind the counter which is cool. Also lots of seating. Has a homley feel, with paintings on the walls.
c. t.
Lovely fresh breakfast food, decent coffee, friendly staff, definitely would recommend
T. B.
Fantastic independent cafe. There is an outdoor area which is great when the weather permits - and they serve crepes !
A. K.
Good service, nice cafe with 2 rooms (2-story) and a terrace. Large selection of cakes. I had a flat white that was great but the carrot cake was okay 3/5
P. F.
A small, slightly quirky but in a good way, cafe. A good place to meet friends and chat, and have a drink or something to eat at reasonable prices. Be careful on the stairs to the seating area above the servery, and to the loo below!
K. W.
Lovely breakfast menu here...and quiet at Sunday lunchtime! Upstairs seating overlooking the square.
K. M.
Food is affordable and filling. You can eat in or take away. Great little place if you want healthy tasty veg options especially as a budget traveler. Not too busy either. Very cute as well.
R. S.
The food was okay, but the service was really slow.
A. L.
Open very early even on Sunday so I was most appreciative of needed coffee. Very pleasant staff, lovely upstairs room to enjoy sandwich and drink. Will visit again when in Oxford.
L. M.
It was really chill! Company though added value cos that was special.
L. S.
Nice casual atmosphere, good lunch-time food. There's always a crowded entrance, so be prepared to queue. Good choice for vegans - jacket potatoes, baguettes and a vegan breakfast.
D. M.
Cute little cafe opposite Westgate mall. Ordered the salmon pasta, portion and taste were good. Has several plug points around the seating area, good place to get work done.
C. H.
Great location to sit and watch Oxford go by. One of the few highlights of lockdown is my daily ride to grab a coffee and sit here before cycling home again
D. G.
Very nice breakfast
E. 8.
Quirky building, a bit stingy on the cherry tomatoes, lots of melted mozzarella for the lactose intolerant.
The flavor of the single cherry tomato was exquisite though. Best I’ve had in months.
A. Y.
Quick service and good choice of sandwiches and wraps including vegan and vegetarian. polite and friendly service
C. M.
We came here for breakfast, the breakfast baguettes were full to their brim. The coffee was good too!
K. B.
Food and drink came super quick! And they do contactless!
B. M.
Used the outside kiosk as wanted to listen to lady playing violin in the square. The coffee is okay and the service was fine too. Nice location and not commercial.
J. W.
Very good flat white coffees here.
Tasty scones as well.
Friendly table service.
P. R. B.
Coffee and service was top notch !
N. S.
Good breakfast at a good price compared to other places in central Oxford. Coffee was good too. We visited early on Saturday morning and had a comfortable table.
c.
Very good food and service. I was able to order over the phone, and the food was ready for me to pick up within about 10-15 minutes. I would recommend the English Breakfast.
E. P.
Lovely, delicious vegan food, including my first ever frappe! Lovely place to stop for lunch or coffee and cake with a friend
F. B.
The art café is truly a wounderful, progressive and peaceful place to eat and drink your favourite things. From the art filled room in its interior that are constantly being reimagined to its fantasticly outside space where you can hear local buskers, people watch and enjoy a good book. It's a must visit whether you're from Oxford or further afield.
b. s.
very nice cafe friendly staff i would recommend that you check your hot drinks before drinking as mine n my partners still had tea bags in. it was a tad expensive with 2 bacon n sausage baguette n 2 teas coming to £16
J. C.
The place is nice, staff friendly and the food is nice. However, there is way too many tables in the restaurant which make the place really busy and you don't really want to stay too long.
C. H.
Great open atmosphere, top staff and good coffee. Keep these independent traders going, drop in for food and a coffee!
M. K.
Great selection of food, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Avocado and tofu salad was a good choice, especially coupled with soya matcha green tea ^_^ Stable internet too and plenty of seating space.
S. B.
Lovely lunch and friendly service
E.
Alright food and deco, great location
B.
Great little cafe for quick food to take away. Freshly made and very tasty. We visit this place every time we come in to Oxford.
O. H.
My favourite breakfast/brunch spot in Oxford. You can never go wrong with their full English and a lovely, sweet cappuccino. Very decent price, too.
G. B.
Wonderful, best breakfast/lunch place I’ve been to in oxford
m. p.
Very nice place , very good customer service
J. S. S.
Lovely and cozy ambiance, friendly staff, tasty coffee.
J. T.
This place is really good! The espresso drinks are on point and the food comes out great. A sweet relief that quality small businesses still exist.
E. M.
Great gluten free and vegan cake selection. And a wide variety of drinks! I like that there is also work on display that's for sale.
D. P.
Delicious food all around. Friendly staff, fabulous breakfast sandwich, top notch latte, moist red velvet cake, and dank scone.
I. P.
Good place for a coffee and a natter, and the food's good too.
a. M.
Good range of sandwiches, paninis and cakes as well as hot meals. It can get crowded but it's normally possible to get a seat as there are two floors.
M. H. (.
Nice relaxed place, good vibe. Cortado was okay, great full English breakfast with nice ingredients and £6 was too much for me to finish. Free wifi. Glad I found it.
P. K.
Great location, friendly and professional service, excellent coffee.
N. K.
Nice family run cafe. Can get busy.
L. E.
Traditional English Breakfast so nice!
S. T.
Sat outside spoiled by filthy thoughtless smokers
J. O.
A good place to meet with friends and chat, have a drink or something to eat at reasonable prices. Will recomend this place if some of the staff would be more happy while serving.
A. i. W.
Great food, nice atmosphere and art for sale by local artists.
The orange and chocolate cake is a reason to go just in it's self.

A. H.
Loved the cafe. Staff were a bit abrupt but breakfast and coffee were great. Menu options were really impressive.
J.
A wide range of delicious food and drinks. Polite staff and reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend!
F. L.
It looks mediocre from the outside. But inside, you would see lots of lovely paintings. The seats by the windows at 2nd floor would be the best spot to watch people bustling in the city.
J. L.
Right value for money. A bit cluttered with forniture, our room. Quiet neigborhood.
G. K.
I ordered the vegetarian breakfast which was very good portion size and quality for the price. The only let down was the vegetarian sausages which did not taste the best.
J. M.
I used to come here a lot and it was always a great place to get lunch and study. Nice open space upstairs to sit and food was good and inexpensive.
M. L.
Great food, great coffee, lots of cool art and a great atmosphere. Easily one of the best independent cafés in Oxford.
A. T.
While visiting Oxford for the day I came across this cute little cafe and liking art I had to go in. Its such a lovley cafe and the food is amazing. I'll have to come back one day.

A great find. Cosy, friendly staff, good food and great coffee that isn't from a high street chain and better value.
