Reviews of New Ground Coffee
D. V.
Beautiful coffee shop with simple three menu (espresso, milk, filter) and very clean atmosphere. It was lovely that we were able to choose the coffee beans for the filter and the staff was able to advice us on coffee based on our preference.
The egg tart was really great and wished it was warmed as well. The two coffee we got were from Columbia and Ethiopia but having a card describing which coffee it actually was could have enhanced the experience even more. The ambience was very cool and quiet so we tried to speak quietly haha but having some more seats could potentially enhance the atmosphere further.
We ordered some coffee beans in the end which the price was not listed so having the price and also having some perks of if you buy coffee beans you get free drink or next drink free could be a nice way to have a perks. Would love to come back again and try some other coffees as well, it will be great to have some seats outside for summertime as well.

Wonderful selection of coffees. This hidden gem is a wonderful surprise, they sell amazing doughnuts and chocolate too

I really cannot say enough wonderful things about this beautiful place. This independent business has the best coffee in Oxford hands down ! The flavour is so intense and wonderful I ended up buying a few packets to take home with me. The atmosphere as soon as you walk in is just marvellous and such a break from the outside world and all its stressors. The coffee is processed in the same vicinity as your drinks are made which makes the most wonderful smell. The plants are wonderful and I hope someone gives them really good names.

Absolutely incredible, top quality beans and process. A decaf as good as most standard coffees… nicely lit spot with wonder coffee odour everywhere. Fantastic!

A recent discovery but definitely a great addition to the Oxford coffee scene. Up there with the best. I really enjoy the lighter roasts as it retains so much more of the interesting flavours, rather than the dark roast coffee bitterness. I've ordered a few, but the Shakisso has been my favourite so far, with a social benefit background to boot! Definitely worth trying.

INCREDIBLE coffee bar (with roastery on site). Not only is the coffee as perfect as it can be (have had both a flat white and cappuccino there, both expertly created; shot pulled, extraction & milk stretched excellently, and flavour; AMAZING), it gets better though, as it’s coffee with a conscience , as they have a training programme that gives ex-offenders a new start & career. They also pay the living wage, have carbon neutral logistics as well as doing direct trade with the coffee farmers (which means they pay far more than “the man”). I can’t wait to return ! Thanks so much guys, keep it up

Consistently the best flat white coffee in Oxford from this roastery. Friendly team. The guest coffees are always delicious. Wonderful treats on certain days such as Portuguese tarts, Hamblin bread and Pippin doughnuts. I’m there every week.

the best coffee in Oxford and friendly staff with amazing pastries to match. A bit out of the way in central headington but well worth the visit....

Fantastic coffee, light and airy space, coffee roaster at one end with plenty of freshly roasted coffee aromas! Limited seating, but perfect for a short pit stop.

Really (really) nice coffee. Lots of greenery and light tones creating a really fresh open atmosphere. I especially appreciate the ethical focus around New Ground. I will certainly be back and probably pick up some of their in-house roasted coffee!
H. P.
Not only the best coffee joint in Oxford, serving the best made coffees from the finest roastery on site, but also serving the finest doughnuts I think I've ever tasted! How about mango custard? Sublime.
S. A.
Best flat white in Oxford. Delicious pastries. Really great coffee!
P. T.
Decent coffee, but served in a disposable cup (I was drinking in) that tainted it with an unpleasant plastic taste.

I can only comment on my experience online but these coffee roasters are amongst the best in regards to quality. The beans are delivered first class and only take a day or two to arrive, and the espresso blends they offer are delicious! And if the packaging design is important to you, I think New Ground takes the win.

I've been here twice now, once for a flat white and once for a cappuccino. Easily some of the best espresso drinks I've ever had -- incredible flavor and beautiful presentation. Staff are friendly and the interior is very stylish. Interesting location in a back alley in Headington.
Very much worth the trip, and I also appreciate that they open at 7:00 am -- that's not too common for coffee shops in and around Oxford.

Delicious 😋 coffee and a great selection of pastries and cakes.
Recommended!

I enjoy coming here to write - that's true enough - and sometimes to read. But the Salted Caramel Brownies, the interesting Coffee varieties, the ethos underpinning this social enterprise, and the welcoming staff are also wonderful drawcards.
And perhaps it's not really so counterintuitive that when you add those factors in the midst of abundant greenery, minimalist and functional decor, and the soft swoosh and scent of Coffee being roasted and packed with joy, that my attention to the Muse is somehow sharpened.
Time taken to seek out this hidden gem in Headington, will surely surprise and delight you!

This is a charming independent coffee shop. However, when I attended coffee roasting/grinding was in progress and it was very difficult to hold a conversation due to the noise. This competed with a soundtrack of drum & base, of which I am a fan. :-)
There were only a couple of places to sit. I am not sure if this is a pandemic thing, but they would definitely benefit from more seating areas. There was only a small cake selection.
I definitely want to support independent coffee houses rather than Starbucks, but more could be done here to make customers feel more welcome.
The building is an old (Victorian?) industrial unit with a glass roof. The interior has a trendy plywood industrial vibe.
My latte, needless-to-say, was great.

Great coffee at a business making a real difference to people's lives.

Staff were lovely and helpful - really friendly. Coffee was delicious too - and love the ethical and social benefit ethos. But there's only 5 seats, and a bench (not comfy) and a massive (15ft tall) machine that's mega noisy.
Good for a coffee-to-go, but couldn't sit in there and work or have a chat without shouting.
M. N.
Great coffee, nice environment to relax (love all the plants) and great service!

We were passing through (for work) and needed a coffee break, we chose this place based on the excellent reviews and we weren't disappointed.
Tucked away off the main road it's easy to find ... there was a queue ... always a good sign in my book. The queue soon disappeared as it's one in one out at the moment so persevere.
Great coffee and cake! Lovely girls who didn't mind a little chat ... about coffee ... fab place would definitely recommend

This is my favourite cafe in the city. The best coffee in a modern industrial space. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the coffee beans and preparation are outstanding. My only minor complaint is the incessant Oasis blasting on some days, always the same three or four songs on repeat. Perhaps something more atmospheric, or indeed some of the lesser known Oasis tracks (there’s more to Oasis than Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger, and Champagne Supernova), if you must, would make it a much better experience. Overall, though, I’m delighted that this place has opened and couldn’t recommend it enough!

Lovely atmosphere and fabulous coffee!

Fabulous coffee, baristas, and pastries/breads from local artisan bakers

Popped in on a Saturday morning to have a look. The shop / roastery is located off Windmill road (there is a sign). Although we couldn't sit in due to Covid-19, I grabbed a flat white to take out and wasn't disappointed. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Also purchased some beans for my coffee machine and can't wait to get some grinding done.

The best coffee I have ever tasted.
All coffee is ethical and single-origin, and is roasted using the Loring so it's eco-friendly too. This is echoed throughout the coffee shop as they use Huskeecups which are super cute and made from the husk of coffee cherries (my mind was blown too)! New Ground is a social enterprise so by buying coffee here you can support them in providing training and jobs to ex-offenders. Everything is really reasonably priced and staff are so lovely and friendly. Also worth noting; you can buy a small variety of pastries and you can also buy New Ground's coffee beans to take home with you. I will definitely be back!

Through COVID-19 lockdown I tried a lot of different coffee roasters via mail order. I have to say these guys have the best I've tried. That roaster contraption on display does something special. And thankfully they're just down the road from me!
J. H.
