Reviews of The Rose Oxford

Nice, cute little place. Great location. I really liked the hot chocolate and coffee cake. Very quick service.
I wouldn't say it's very cheap, but pretty decent prices.
The person I was meeting was running a little late, so I had to wait for a while before ordering. The staff were very polite and happily let me wait for half an hour before ordering.
M. B.
Lovely little Café with friendly staff and a delicious afternoon tea. The house blend tea is a very delicious choice you need to try.
Definitely my first place to go to when I'm coming back to Oxford.
N. L.
Lovely cosy traditional tea room in the centre of Oxford.
And the best freshly baked scones in oxford as well!
D. B.
The scones are great, the jam a bit synthetic and not enough cream or jam. We asked for a smoked salmon sandwich rather than a bagel but 'sandwich isn't on the system!' The manager was rather supercilious. The waitress was nice.
B.
Simply the best scones my wife and I have ever experienced. Freshly baked and still warm, we tell everyone about this place for scones! They had a huge selection of teas available as well.
J. L.
The Rose is my go to Cafe in Oxford as it's delicious food, tasty smoothies, a huuuuge selection of good teas and the most gooey delicious cake ever!
The owners friendly, excellent welcoming speedy service from the waitress.
Good music playlists.
What more could you ask for!

Just wanted to say thank you to the girl who served me yesterday. I was waiting for a friend and she brought over water and was so sweet. The pasta was amazing will definitely be back.
M. O.
The best place to have afternoon tea (Cream tea especially), it's not expensive and the service is lovely! The scones they bring always soooo warm and fresh!
A. P.
Roobio tea took me back to my Zambia days... Vegetarian sandwich had the perfect amount of caramelized onions. The mozzarella sandwich had enough mozzarella cheese for my partner which made her smile... Lox sandwich was a little off but overall the staff's and restaurants ambiance was perfect for our mid-day stop
L. C.
A little pricey for cream tea but the scones were the best we ate in Oxford, warm and delicious. Totally recommend!
S. R.
Stopped for a coffee, tea and cake. Great service and not too expensive for Oxford. Cakes where delicious.
O. M.
Very nice scones! The server lady was very nice, but the other server man who sat us down was not very welcoming. He didn't say a word to us and didn't smile at all!
K. E.
Great selection on the menu with great quality food - the salad I had was fantastic, with a lovely dressing and generous helpings of veg. Service was reasonably prompt and very polite. The central Oxford location is fantastic, making this a great café to go to if you're visiting the city.
P. C.
Lovely informal café in the middle of Oxford for awesome teas, cakes and especially cream tea with homemade scones.
L. G.
The afternoon tea here was very good and excellent value at only £15pp. They don’t accept bookings so try to turn up early to avoid disappointment.

The scones are utterly divine. Served hot and soft but not crumbling to pieces - it's been delicious every time I've had it. The jam and clotted cream are equally excellent in quality. In my opinion, the scones at The Rose are completely justified in being known as the best scones in Oxford. Compliments to the baker! The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is cosy. A must visit when in Oxford.
R.
I’m still thinking about my scone. Charming little tea shop in Oxford. Great ambiance.
A. P.
A must visit for afternoon tea.
Loved the rose and strawberry tea.
T. W.
Scones were ok but clotted cream was not rich in taste enough

Perhaps the best in Central Oxford. Very good service and excellent food. I had the rose breakfast option, on a different occasion the soup of the day and the mushroom risotto.
M. O.
Had scrambled eggs on toast, hubby had the breakfast. Everything cooked to perfection really enjoyed. Lady who served us was really nice. Shame the people who came in made it clear they wanted our table too as we would have stayed longer - kinda rude but guess some people can't help themeselves. It was nice and quiet up untilbthat poiny. Glad we didn't just on by though 😊
L. H.
Everything was perfect here. Warm atmosphere, lovely and warm waitress, the chicken basil and avocado ciabattas were so good my family and I declared it the best sandwich we’ve ever had! And the scones were light, crispy on the outside and fluffy and soft inside, freshly baked with no traces of that baking powder taste you usually get with scones. There was also a generous choice of teas! One of the real highlights of oxford, I really can’t fault this place.
F. C.
Small and cosy place. Nicely decorated and welcoming. We ordered afternoon tea for 2 and I'd say it was delicious! Scones were warm, fluffy, and a bit crusty on the outside, definitely ones of the best I've tasted! The sandwiches were really good as well, just like the cakes. The chocolate and almond one is a highlight! I'd definitely come back.
A. P.
Really loved the afternoon tea and staff! Best tea and prices in Oxford.
E. G.
Really nice tea house almost in the centre of Oxford. The place is small with a nice relaxing atmosphere. The afternoon tea is delicious, served with generous portions of cakes and fantastic traditional scones. Good choice of teas and kind staff. The place usually closes at 18 so be there early to enjoy the food and drinks
D. B.
Surprisingly quiet in the morning for such a great little place. Recommend the cream tea!
R. M. M.
Really great food. Not as cheap as others commented but still a good place for lunch or an afternoon tea.
A.
Came across this place with a boyfriend by accident and were absolutely surprised in a good way! The staff were really pleasant, teas are great (I suggest trying the one with smoke aroma), cakes came to our table right out of kitchen still warm! And extremely tasty.
A. S.
Simply the best walnut carrot cake I've ever had! Lovely ambiance and people ~
G. C.
Plethora of tea options available and the scones were phenomenal! I personally didn’t enjoy the chai tea I ordered, was very weak and am so use to ready made chai with milk and sugar- was cumbersome attempting to add my own.
M. J.
Amazing afternoon tea. Lovely service as we came in easier than their afternoon tea time. They were nice as I guess not top busy and we had people from US over.
Only issue is the toilets are down some very very steep stairs. A little uncomfortable if one doesn't have good eyesight.
J. H.
Very mixed bag. Tea and scones were lovely but when asking for a takeaway box for my left over scone with cream as I couldn't eat both it was squashed into tinfoil with no cream as was the chocolate cake.
The lady serving in there was pleasant and welcoming however the gentleman was cold/ borderline rude. I tried to ask him for a box as he was clearing the table but he was clearly preoccupied.
A. d. C.
Scones, tea and jams very good. However, for big groups (8 people) they wont let you stay together due to "health and safety reasons"... The service was a bit cold but the food compensate for it.
R. G.
Great service and good quality food.
S.
A very nice, little tea room. At both my visits, I found the staff a bit reserved and unattentive, but nice as soon as I got their attention. The reason why I came back was that their scones were to die for, and I couldn't stop thinking about them! They will be the reason why I come back the next time I'm in Oxford too, as they were simply delicious.
J. P.
Lunch. Ciabattas. Chicken for me and salmon for my wife. They were excellent. In fact we probably could have shared one between us. Served with a salad with mustard dressing. Thank you.
J. A. P.
Really charming little cafe. Highly recommend popping in to meet a friend or having a nice coffee stop in your busy weekend. Love visiting the Rose Oxford.
J. S.
A great café with nice staff.
M. N.
Probably the best service you can receive. I would give 10 stars out of 5 but Google won't let me. Decent prices and really good food. The waiter who was on shift on 24th of August in the morning is potentially the best employee this coffee shop has. I'm just sad they dont have service charge nor gratuity on the POS. @owner, please let the costumers tip the waiter, especially when they're offering outstanding services
A. S.
The cream tea is amazing and isn't time restricted like it used to be! Warm and well staffed tea house very used to tourists. Not a huge place and don't take reservations so worth checking in a little earlier for space.
J. M.
The food was delicious and staff nice. 2 regrets music is a little too loud to speak normal and the toilets require to be update.
R. S.
The Rose is a fantastic Cafe that has never disappointed. I've had many breakfasts here before and all have impressed me. One of my regular spots! My only criticism would be a slightly tired decor, but don't let that put you off.
P. N.
Really great quality food. Generous portions. Fresh ingredients. Highly recommended
M. L. D.
We had a really lovely and delicious afternoon tea here. It was perfect for two persons and a reasonable price. I will definitely come again!
B. H.
Best scones i have ever had. You can even taste the eegs. And the creme was soooo good!
Only improvement point would be not to put boiling water into green tea.
M. A.
I simply liked it. They have good selections of teas, tasty sandwiches and salads. I left with a good impression about the food, the place and the service. I'll definitely go back as it is not far away from my study place.
C. T.
Delicious food in a traditional place. There are great salads with mixed vegetables and fruits. Burgers are huge and succulent. The price is not cheap but more or less in line with oxford places. The place is in high street close to shops. Higly recommanded
J. M.
In short: Tourist trap.
The "afternoon tea" is described as coming with two tea cakes, which it doesn't, it's one tea cake cut in half. On discussing this with the waitress, she clearly didn't care and even admitted that its one tea cake cut into two pieces. To make it worse, the tea cake was not even fresh.
The bill was only a short list of prices with no words on it, which by today's standards is fairly poor.
Its a shame, because the coffee was good and the interior is quite nice for a cafe.
Do yourself a favour, walk out the door, cross the road, and go to the Grand Cafe.

I was with some friends at The Rose and i ordered goats cheese vegetables salad it was amazing, and my friends ordered a cream tea best scones I tried anywhere in Oxford, it was a very good lunch/cream tea. Thank You
I. G.
Nice cafe. Ordered a pot of tea for two and they served us one small pot between two. Obviously used to serving students stretching out their pennies!
P. O.
Delicious scones and a lovely service, a perfect place for an afternoon tea - highly recommended 😊
L. R.
Best scone in oxford you say? Well it was my second for the day (first was at vaults and garden) & this scone and tea was incredible. Like my grandma used to make.
D. B.
Beautiful latte, nice and creamy at perfect temperature to drink.
Very pleasant staff. 100% recommend
P. M.
This place is just fantastic! The different range of teas to choose from makes this place the best in town. The food is really fresh and the Staff is always wellcoming. My favorite place in Oxford, I go there almost every week :)
A. B. G.
We went for a breakfast. The food was spectacular and the price is very good for tthequality that they offer. The service was very good and very fast. We will come back for sure!
M. R.
A friend and I had breakfast at the Rose. The food was very good, but I don't think quite worth the price tag (the full English was £10). The service was friendly but quite slow, even though the place was empty, and the atmosphere wasn't particularly relaxed or welcoming. I don't think I'll be coming back.
B. K.
Super nice, the most freshly made scones I have ever tried. The rest of the food was also excellent.
J. O.
Lovely food, big portions, friendly staff
H. Ü.
Very slow service even though it was empty. Took them 10 minutes to prepare 4 drinks. Apart from that it’s a nice cosy cafe.
A. B.
High quality English breakfast, using local ingredients. Quiet but friendly service. Good tea and coffee.
