Reviews of Duttons
O. S.
Came here for just a quick breakfast but really enjoyed our visit. The lady (owner?) was extremely friendly, coffee was good and scones delicious. The seating outside also comes with a great view across the water. It does look a bit run down but it shouldn't discourage you from coming here!
S. 1.
One of the best cream teas I've ever had, absolutely delicious and beautiful views
T. W.
I chose Duttons as I'm a fan of Yellowstone, don't worry there weren't any cowboys in this cafe!
Service with a smile, I had a full English breakfast which was perfect along with a fresh orange juice and a flat white.
Would highly recommend.
L. N.
Had lovely cream tea, kids meal for great price. Dog friendly. Very warm welcome in a lovely cosy cafe . A must try 👌
Thank you for the dog biscuits. Went down a treat lol
P. G.
What a gem. The scones and homemade strawberry jam and clotted cream with coffee is exquisite. And she is so friendly. In a 19th century brick building next to the Citadel fort is a bonus.
K. T.
Stopped off here on a cold day, cream tea was delicious and the hot chocolate was great, and a couple of doggie sausages for the dogs, great little place for a warmup.
M. M.
Beautiful dog friendly-very friendly place. Nice simple food. Vegetarian little menu as well. And nice all together. Thank you.
P. A.
Top quality place for quick bite to eat. Great cream reas, and a superb sausage bap. Great location outside seating. Nice staff too
E. E.
Excellent service. Everything on time, fresh, tasty, great views. Dogs friendly (ice cream dogs and sausages available to buy).
j. w.
Best place to wait out for your ferry departure.. :-)
Lovely service, nice priced. And best of all, bicyclist friendly! 'Can I charge my ebike battery, please' ? And a big yes with a smile was the answer.
Love to come back here someday.
Oh, yes, don't forget to try the squid here. It's perfect!
K. D.
Based in part of the old fort, overlooking Plymouth Sound and the Cattewater. Eat inside or in the large garden. Great food served by really good staff. Reasonable prices & dog friendly.
F. A.
We came here on a busy bank holiday weekend. We sat outside on the picnic benches in the sun and enjoyed the views. I had a great cream tea with warm scones and a large pot of tea. The service was with a smile although it was a very busy afternoon.
M. K.
Great place to go for quick tea or small lunch 😍
Fantastic if you have a dog or friend with dog. They always welcome. Good food and nice tea with warm scones.
R. F.
Just us, when we stopped for coffee, with our dog, and the staff couldn't have been nicer to us and our Staffy. Free dog biscuits, too.
R. V. B.
Stopped for a quick morning cream tea and coffee. Friendly staff, dogs were welcomed.
I. S.
Only had hot drinks and service, price, and atmosphere were good.
C. F.
Their moving mountains vegan burger was divine! Served with chips, salad vegan cheese and garlic mayo 😍
W. M.
Stopped for a lovely cream tea while on a great cycle ride in some gorgeous February sunshine...
j. s.
Very pleasant. They make excellent cream teas reasonably priced and found the staff helpful.
T. D.
Great little cafe with fabulous views. Friendly staff, fast service and food was good, would def come back again
b. g.
Nice place to sit and look over Plymouth harbour...teas and coffee are great 😁👍
G. J.
Nice settings with lovely views. Had a crab sandwich.,well a crab roll not a bit like a crab sandwich which you can get less than 2 minutes away , crab all flakes and very watery and 50 per cent more expensive than the shack down the road which serves white meat and it is chunks! Wouldn't buy this item again. Coffee was lovely though.
E. D.
Staff were very friendly. The cream tea was perfect. Scones fresh made, cream and jam in separate sealed jars for hygiene. Reasonable price for two people. Loads of parking.
S. P.
As always my visit to Plymouth includes Duttons crab salad, delicious plate of food with diet cola. Lovely highly recommended
M. S.
This cafe is very pleasant and inviting and best of all they love dogs 🐕
K. T.
Lovely staff, fantastic and tasty food and very dog friendly as they have dog ice cream. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back!
S. M.
I visited Duttons during the 2021 British Fireworks Championships and they had a great deal (buy in advance) for food, drink and a ring side seat. The staff were excellent and the location makes it worth paying for. I hope to go back again next year.
J. F.
Stopped by for a drink. Had table service outside which was quick and friendly. Nice spot in the sun
C. W.
My experience...the main reason we come to this place is for the crab roll/baguette. After hiking out there and getting completely drenched in the rain, they turn around and say they are out of crab. How can they justify almost £6 for a cheese and salad roll. I could have made myself one at home and saved myself the trouble.
A. S.
Popped in for a coffee and sausage and egg bap. Good service, great size portions
A. K.
Superb cream tea's and the scones.
One of the best i've ever had.
T. H.
Is a friendly place. Offers gluten free which is great for coeliac's. However disabled access is difficult as well as toilets are not easy to use but the poor excuse for baby changing facilities is disappointing. Either you need to stand on top of the toilet seat to reach the mat provided and balance yourself and child on the windowsill or climb and reach everything thing down and do it on the toilet floor.
S. W.
Great location, friendly helpful staff even though we only had a couple of drinks and some ice cream.
Dog friendly too and sell doggy ice cream!

Just stopped for a drink after a stroll across the waterfront. Food was prompt and delicious! Freshly cooked cream tea was fantastic and dog friendly so we could sit outside and enjoy the weather.
A. B.
If you have the weather and not disturbed by other people's kids running amok, this is a bit of a beautiful place to sit down at (if you're lucky to get a good seat). We had a table by the wall over looking the estuary, what a stunning view. Couldn't think of a better place to sit down and have a coffee.
M. 4.
We attended a wedding reception here, and it was superb. The buffet food was lovely and divided around all the tables so no one missed out on anything. The scones jam and cream were the best ever. And the staff were mega helpfull and friendly. I would certainly book here if i was having a small party. Thankyou all xx
E. K.
Loved it here and good coffee
J. M.
My hubby and i had dinner here this evening (Sunday 2nd June) in the lovely outside garden area in full sunshine. We both had fish and chips with mushy peas/garden peas and chunky tartare sauce. It's the best fish and chips we've had in years, the staff were pleasant and polite at the bar and when the food was brought to our table. On a plus we didn't have to wait too long for the food, when it arrived it was freshly cooked and piping hot and the batter on the fish was crisp and not greasy. Will definitely eat here again and would recommend it to local and visiting people to Plymouth.
T. P.
A novel environment to enjoy a cream tea of tasty food. Indoors you're in a refurbished World War 2 installation with marine theme decorations, outside you have a nice grass garden with great sea views. Staff are very friendly.
S. O.
Lovely little cafe. Ordered sandwiches which were good. Staff were friendly but beat of all it was dog friendly. They even do dog ice cream and treats, we couldn’t resist, she lived it!!
A. R.
Great coffee with lovely veiws across Plymouth sound and mountbatten.
L. F.
Lovely for a hot scone cream teas with your loved ones , while watching the finest sunset over the Sound + much more ; if raining nice little tea room , but in the sun it's an oasis of our own ,
D. P.
What a great find this was, the view from the dinning area is simply stunning, Limited meal at the moment but still very nice
Great place to sit and take in the views
M. &. S. L.
Great value food. Recommend their fish and chips and BLT. Friendly service. Seating inside and outside with lovely views of the harbour
l. c.
Really nice place to visit, quirky little restaurant, friendly people that allow well behaved dogs. One of the best cream tea's around. Highly recommended.
L. T.
Pretty, little indoor seating area. Large outdoor garden. Dog friendly. Reasonably priced, and good choice of tasty food and drink. Lots of vegetarian options too! (The halloumi blt is a favourite)
G. J.
Good location on Plymouth Hoe with views out to sea, indoor and covered outdoor seating. Dog friendly. Nice variety of food at reasonable prices.
O. V.
Really nice cafe to relax with a good cup of coffee and some chips. They do a good range of food, and a nice variety of refreshing drinks. Been here a lot and I'll definitely be going again soon.
C. G.
Great location. Pleasant indoor seated area. Nice drinks selection (Tribute, Korev, no Coke, draught Pepsi, yuk), cakes, cafe food. Had the Dutton burger advertised with cheddar which tasted more like burger cheese and the bun wasn't toasted. Fish chowder contained a nice selection of fish but had no flavour, not even a fishy one.
P. W.
Great place for a coffee during a walk on the Hoe. Cakes look good. Cold today so inside but outside seating area offers views over the sound.
A. P.
Very scenic place overlooking The Mayflower Steps. Not entirely convinced by the cakes. They stay open fairly late into the evening which is good.
C. M.
Nice little cafe, great priced cream teas nice views on a good day.
T. J.
Excellent venue to watch the fireworks at a reasonable price. Lovely friendly staff - greatly recommended
M. S.
Visited here with family, food was lovely 😊 only gripe was drinks we're brought out first and then had to wait a good ten minutes for our scones by which time, we had finished our drinks! I rather like to drink while I eat.
T. B.
Bit old fashioned and in need of a bit of a make over maybe but the staff were friendly and they're dog friendly too. The food was nice too.
S. D.
Great food, amazing service and beautiful views. This is one of our favourite dog-friendly spots in Plymouth.
m. b.
Good service fantastic view
P. J.
Very friendly staff. Only popped in for a coffee but they made a big fuss of the dog and when they found out he can't have wheat based treats produced a bag of dried sprats.
N. G.
Great place and excellent service. Cream tea was fantastic. Dog friendly too which is always a bonus!
t. p.
