We arrived for breakfast to find that many people had tables booked but the staff worked hard to accommodate us quickly and friendly. The service was great and personable. The menu is really special and very well cooked and presented. This is a fabulous place for a 5* breakfast which is very reasonably priced.

Called in early one morning as me and my family were staying close by. We hadn't booked but found us a table for 5 as we were so early. We all had something different and every thing was lovely, not one thing to moan about 5 clean plates even my 10 year old! Grandson . I had the chefs special and it was amazing. I reccomend this place to anyone but make sure you book a table , we were lucky.

An interesting building. Service was quick and friendly. The brunch and coffee were excellent. The screaming babies and general noise were appallingly uncomfortable. Monty’s has been spoilt by its success. It is much too crowded and not a venue for quiet conversations alongside an enjoyment of its good menu of food.

Can't praise this cafe enough. Excellent with covid safety but also done in a very freindly and welcoming way. The breakfasts we had were delicious and a delight to eat. This is what you want when away on holiday. We thought the prices are good for the quality of food produced. It's a little gem of a cafe. Very relaxed and enjoyable breakfast.Definatley go there again on our next visit to Plymouth.

It has a very cute space with quite a variety of seating options. Nice natural lighting at the front of the cafe as well, and a tiny book borrowing area if you feel like reading. They do offer a loyalty card, but the exact details are not clear. We ordered their more deluxe hot chocolate and it was very tasty. However there was one issue. They assured us that is was vegetarian, however the drink was covered in Haribo marshmallows which contain gelatin. Once brought up the staff got us a new drink without any issue. They were all friendly overall. Seemed like an honest mistake.

Staff were extremely welcoming, polite, very professional and more than willing to serve thier customers despite these unprecedented times. Unfortunately they were having to turn walk in's anyway due to appointment only being in place but they do keep one space to seat four persons on walk in's. Lovely food, you get quite a bit for your money. The breakfasts are especially lovely! I often meet friends here. The chefs special is always really interesting! You always leave feeling full. I've visited this café on many occasions with my family and it is one of my favourite places to go for both breakfast and lunch. It's always busy when we go here and it can be difficult to get a table however, this is testament to the quality of the food. I have never been disappointed with the food here, and it is fantastastic value for money. The location is lovely for a walk afterwards, and the decor inside the café is really cosy.

You need to pre book at peak times on the weekend. Lovely food and good service with a smile. Visited during the pirates weekend and the staff were all dressed up and entered into the theme of the weekend. Vegans and veggies catered for as well as the usual fare.

Visited here to grab a breakfast (it's actually available all day!) rather than eat at hotel. A clean place that was larger than expected because of second seating area in the back half of the building. Like many of the premises in the Barbican area of Plymouth it is clearly independent in style; a refreshing change to the national chains. Only two staff working but they coped easily as the place became busier. Very clear about what they were doing and no signs of stress like you often see in the franchise places. A good extensive menu going way beyond the usual 'all day breakfast', e.g. bacon sandwich made with eggy bread - delicious! Prices seemed reasonable but, when the food arrives, you realise it's very reasonable as the portions are really large. Good quality cafe food, that was prepared in reasonably quick time. In Plymouth Barbican area and need breakfast? Definitely try here. You'll probably go back.

Wondering around the barbican yesterday we decided to grab a bite to eat but couldn't decide what we wanted. My partner suggested Monty's and after looking at the menu it was an instant win! Who could say no to Ribeye steak baguette with blue cheese, chips and salad! The place is a lot bigger than it looks from outside and there was a mixture of sofas and table n' chairs. Food took about 15 minutes to come out, and while ordering there was a sign saying the food orders would take approx 20 minutes which was nice to see they were managing expectations and delivered sooner. I'd happily go back to Monty's again to try some other delights from the menu.

We have been to Monty's Cafe on many occasions, primarily for breakfast. It's easy to walk by the fairly plain exterior but you'd be missing a little gem. Food is freshly prepared, quickly cooked, very reasonably priced and most importantly, very, very tasty. Staff are welcoming and polite, which rounds off a great place to make the effort to find and dine.

I’ve been going to this place with my family for as long as I can remember. The staff are exceptional and accommodating, and the food? Something out of a Disney Movie! Amazing! The chefs are wonderful at what they do, so willing to adapt the menu to the liking of the customer and always delivering top notch food. I would 100% suggest this place for anyone visiting and any curious locals. I would suggest you book, however, as it is a very wanted place!

This is a lovely place to eat a meal, have a cake or just sit with a hot or cold drink. Varied menu though I suspect the all day breakfast is popular. Service is friendly, prices are reasonable and the chicken dish I had with skinny fries was delicious. Only one thing lets this place down and that is the slightly grubby toilet facilities. They could do with a good clean and a repaint. Hand dryer failed to work too.

Best breakfast ever! Usually an obscenely long wait for food but nonetheless, it is a favourite among my friends. The staff are friendly and it's located in a beautiful place. Perfect pit stop for a delicious vegetarian breakfast!

Fabulous Breakfast. This was our first time eating out since lockdown so we were a little anxious as to what to expect. The measures the cafe have in place are fantastic. A big sign to wait at the entrance, everyone entering are asked to sanitise their hands and then shown to a table. Tables are well placed apart and contact details taken for track and trace. All staff are wearing face masks and they were regularly sanitising their hands. Well done Monty's cafe! We felt at ease and were able to enjoy our meal, which was delicious. All cooked to order and great quality ingredients at reasonable prices. Friendly and helpful staff. Our first visit and we will be back!

Usually had good experiences here but our breakfast on Sunday was a real disappointment. It was busy but our food took over 40mins to arrive. Tables around us who ordered after us received food before us and by the time food arrived it was clearly rushed and not overly warm. Coffee was really good but don't think we will bother with food here any time soon. Hopefully just a one of.

Absolutely beautiful little cafe located right down on the Barbican and an ideal way to start your day if your looking to tour around the city. Food was incredible, broad choice to cater for all tastes on the breakfast lunch and dinner menus. The breakfast myself and my family enjoyed was second to none and worth every penny. So fresh and well presented and you can definitely tell its local produce. Wouldn't hesitate to go back and would be my first choice on my next trip to Plymouth.

We just love this place. Set right in the heart of the Barbican it has everything for me. Good coffee , freshly made food and friendly staff. Although not a 'Swanky' place the food is beautifully prepared with little touches that make all the difference to a meal at lunch time. Serving anything from Muesli to Eggs Benedict there are too many favourites to mention but for me it's the Bubble'n' Squeak with fried eggs, really tasty and a big serving with thick Bacon and topped with 2 fried eggs! I only wish it would open before 9 am so I could finish my early morning run with a breakfast. (second favourite choice)

Nice little cafe on Plymouth's Barbican. Drop a star due to the prices, a bit expensive for a cafe, the charge more like restaurant prices. The staff are pleasant and attentive. Like the Tardis, it's a lot bigger on the inside, give it a try. Very limited on road parking, but there is a car park within walking distance. Can get busy in the summer months, but don't let that put you off. Lots of things to do in the local area, and set in a lovely part of the city.
