Reviews of Café YOLK

Parking is a nightmare outside this Cafe but it was so worth the walk. The hot chocolare and Oreo milkshake were superb, beautifully present and tasted even better than it looked. The choice of breakast was amazing, my son ordered the Canadian so he could try lots. Everything was beautiful and tasty. Possibly my most favouite breakfast ever x

Café Yolk is without doubt the best breakfast & brunch place in Reading. Not only is the food, portion, and presentation always on point but service is always great and prices are reasonable. And how cute is the snowflake cappuccino?!
𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝:
🥑 𝘼𝙫𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙙𝙤 𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙙𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 £7.5
☕️ 𝘾𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙤 £2.55
(𝘝𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘯 & 𝘝𝘦𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦)
They don’t take any bookings, so make sure to arrive early to avoid queues at the weekend..

This is one of my favourite breakfast/brunch spots in Reading. @cafeyolk has never disappointed me and always delivers top quality food.
I ordered:
Vegetarian breakfast £8.50: This is a beautiful plate full of my favourite food items. I especially love the potatoes as they’re always very crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The egg yolk was on point as you can see!
Eggs benedict Royale £9: These are poached eggs served on English muffin with salmon and hollandaise sauce. This was devoured in no time because of how delicious this was.
Mixed berries Pancakes with maple syrup £8.50: These were sublime. Super soft, thick and fluffy! I loved the fresh fruit and maple syrup with it. Pure heaven.
Halal status: Not halal but vegetarian options available.
Service: The staff are lovely and food is served fairly quickly.

I have been here a few times.. The queues are out the door. So you wait 15/20 minutes to be seated. Then 10 minutes at the till, as there is only one till. Once you order your food, you have a long long 45 minutes wait for your food to arrive. Yes the savory breakfast that I order Is good, but then your Hangry as a moose so you'd eat anything. The sweet dishes are just overly sweet and powering.. this time our pancakes/french toast were soaked in caramel sauce.. my kids took one bite and we left the sweet dishes as they were.

This is the best breakfast & brunch place in Reading. Food was 5 star, great portion and good presentation. Staff were very friendly. Canadian breakfast was super filling. Potatoes were perfect. French toast was so good.
E. G.
Fantastic food, good price and friendly place! :-)
Shame you cannot booked a table in advance, but very pleased on how quick we were served. Will have to come back...many tasty things in the menu!! :-)
O. L.
Great food and service was quick even on a busy Saturday morning. The Turkish eggs were delicious, and I can also recommend the chai latte with coconut milk and the peach ice tea.

Lot of good reviews about this place so I decided to try. There was a bit of a wait outside, maybe 45 minutes however the staff kept us constantly informed of estimated time for seating etc.
When we got seated and ordered, the food was great for the most part. We got the breakfast burger and fruit and yogurt pancakes to share between two.
The breakfast burger was excellent. It is sausage, bacon, cheesy omelette and bun. And I have to say, the cheesy omelette was the highlight. Fluffy l and light and just wonderful. The rest of the burger was very good. And the herb potatoes were crunchy and comforting, perfect addition.
We then get to the pancakes with yogurt and berries. The fruit and yogurt was excellent and again there was a highlight here. It is served with a berry jam/compote that was just one of the best I have tasted. However there was something that I found......... strange? I'll explain; the pancakes were not like regular pancakes. It took a while to figure out what they were like and finally it came to me. The pancakes looked like pancakes but tasted like and had the texture of scones! It was weird and disorienting because you expect a light fluffy pancake but get this dense, scone like creation. In saying that, they didn't taste bad but they were actually slightly undercooked (see pics). That was the only reason for four stars instead of five because everything else was very good. And just on that point I have to say that the staff were excellent and swift and really did a good job overall.
So if you think you want to try, I would say go for it because the food is with it and nice staff make it a nice experience.

Went for the Canadian breakfast, so much flavour, good quality ingredients! Also had the biscoff milkshake which was delicious! Had to queue a little bit to get in, but we'll worth it and queue went down quickly! Staff were friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!
A. T.
I've been here a few of times and most of the time there is a queue to get in which can be a bit frustrating but I think it is a good sign, shows that the quality and the service is so good that people are constantly coming back specially keeping in mind that it is not located on a busy road or in town centre.
I personally like the food here, it is always made with good quality products and presented nicely. The atmosphere is very calming and relaxing specially with the big windows. Definitely somewhere I will continue to visit.
m. z.
Good Atmosphere and friendly staff but service could be improved ( even it's towards the end of day ) , it's not halal so I ordered vegetarian as I was assured that it will be cooked separately , the food looked good , unfortunately I couldn't taste much as there was a hair in beans , I was offered a refund and apologied. However, the French toast was nice and I guess if I come back that will be only thing I will have. It was busy and it's normally busy over weekend so make sure you plan ahead. Cannot say much about the other food. Hope you have good experience as it looks people were having good time.
R. U.
wonderful breakfast place to visit in reading. Very tasty and great atmosphere
I. C.
Absolute amazing food! Fresh, big portions and the stuff so friendly! Definitely we will visit again!!!
S. J.
Best breakfast in town. I think the menu has been cut down a bit, probably to make staying on top of a busy service/brunch rush easier but the quality is still top notch. Would 100% recommend.
S. G.
Definitely one of the best places to go for breakfast! Didn't have to wait to be seated, the food and the service was good. The only downside, there is no baby changing facilities and it's not wheelchair accessible, the bathroom is tiny, which is a real shame, otherwise it would have been 5*.
L. M.
Very friendly and efficient staff. Food was delicious. It's possibly a little on the pricey side for what it is but the venue is airy, coffee was good and I wasn't rushed. Highly recommended.
B. B.
Nice restaurant with a large menu. As the name suggests there were eggs cooked in all the ways you could wish for. Pleasant staff and prompt service. Good experience. Will go again when in the area.
C. S.
Great food! Eggs were cooked perfectly, ice drinks also really good. Very nice experience and would recommend to those nearby.
L. M.
Fantastic experience this morning. Had brunch with my friend for her birthday. I asked the waitress if they come make my friends order extra special and they couldn't do enough. They put a love heart on her coffee and brought out the cronut (delicious) with a little candle in it plus sang happy birthday with me. They really made her day so special. Plus the food was lovely!
A. M.
Have driven past this cafe many times and noting that it was always very full, even in mid winter with tables outside, we decided to try it out. We were in the area to have a jab and decided to get there early to pay a visit. There was a huge queue and we acted for about 30 mins, but it was worth it. A good full English for me and some Mexican cheesy potato feast for my wife. Both very good. Service was quick and efficient
J. C.
It's really good but a tad expensive, very popular so a wait to be seated, use Google to see how busy is it live....I think they could tweak the offering to be a bit better value for money such as including a hot drink with a main breakfast option for example.. Would recommend but perhaps as a treat rather than a day to day breakfast eatery for 3 people bill was £39... I had the full English very nice, good quality sausage but only 1 bacon rasher and a small ramakin of beans
I. R.
One of the best places to serves breakfast in this area. Portions are reasonable comparing to price. Many varieties for vegetarians. Highly recommended.
D.
Lovely food, big portions but get there before 9:30 to avoid queues at the weekend
K. G.
Very long queue due to small amount of seating, bubbly atmosphere, food was ok but lacked flavour (too much hollandaise sauce), juices are overpriced as they come in bottles (not freshly squeezed as you might expect). Summary: Nice to try but overrated due to lack of good brunch options in Reading
B. J.
Lovely food and drinks. Staff very helpful and friendly. Definitely come back. Well done guys! ;)
G. A.
This is by far the best Café I’ve been to
S. A.
Lovely Breakfast place..😋😋😋
The Vegan was very very nice..
Scrambled Tofu was so delicate and soft, very nice flavours
3 egg omelette with smoked salmon and cream cheese...so rich, nicely made
Sweet Breakfast
Pancakes with Banana, pecans and salted caramel... soooooo yummy
Affogato - shot of espresso with vanilla ice cream...AWESOME
Staff are wonderful, very friendly...definitely going back for more 😋
I. M.
Had to wait for more than 40 min to get a table Sunday 11am, but it was well worth the wait, amazing food great service.
T. J.
Lovely food and friendly staff. Smoothly run cozy cafe. The fried potatoes that come with the breakfast are amazing!
S. A.
Excellent food.. worth the queuing time to get in.. good portions and really tasty brunch menu.
D. M.
Very welcoming staff member met us at the door. This café is bright and airy, but busy on the Sunday morning that we visited. Food was exceptional, and service very good. Prices were not cheap, but good considering the quality...
D. K.
Really good breakfast place - so hard to find a decent one and they do it all! Great pancakes and french toast, decent eggs, full breakfast and Mexican specials. Great vegetarian range. Love the decor.
Service isn't quick.
L. D.
Food is really good but a shame about the wait, took 40 mins to get our food.
Reasonable prices, average brunch £7 - £9 which is good. Smoothies are yum but £4,50, flat white £2,50. You go order and pay at the bar and then food is brought to you. Fairly simple menu and nice.
Effective and clean use of space. Would go back, but service needs to get faster / more attentive.

I've wanted to try Café Yolk for about 18 months and only got around to it recently. Firstly, the measures in place for COVID were great, especially with the new renovation where it's very open and there's a breeze flowing through so it felt quite safe. There are markings on the floor to show you where to stand in the queue, there was hand sanitiser on the door and the staff cleaned tables thoroughly after customers had finished. There is also conpletely outside seating if you'd feel more comfortable. Can't fault them at all for their COVID measures, a lot better than some places I've seen!
Menu had a good variety of things to choose from, but I visited with a craving of eggs benedict. I have to say I was a bit disappointed because the hollandaise sauce was a bit bland, there wasn't much taste to it compared to other cafes I've been to. However, the sausage I had as an extra was really good quality, very lean and really tasty.
The entire bill came to £26 for: eggs benedict florentine + sausage, eggs benedict with chorizo and avocado, iced mocha and a Lipton iced tea (in a bottle, not fresh iced tea as I was hoping for). It was a quite expensive brunch but I appreciate that as an independent business that the economies of scale will be smaller than a large business and also COVID would have hit them quite hard so I appreciate if they've put prices up.
Overall: setting is lovely, clean and modern, great COVID measures in place, but was disappointed in the food for the price. I'd be willing to visit again but would try something different on the menu.
J. H.
Amazing food!!! Never had anything like it. Limited seating though and long waiting times if you arrive during the peak.
C. G.
My daughter had the choice of anywhere she wanted to eat for her birthday treat and she chose Cafe Yolk for their salted caramel pancakes. Their Covid measures are excellent, great service and the food is incredible. We all loved what we had and the servings are so generous that none of us ate again until tea time. Love this place, a real RDG gem.
†. B.
<BACON & MAPLE SYRUP ON PANCAKES 🥞>
Their brunch never disappoints me🥰
A perfect combo of sweet and savoury😛the pancakes were freshly made with crispy bacon on top🥓
I also add a portion of creamy scrambled eggs 🍳 and pouring the maple syrup was satisfying😈🍁💛 What an enjoyable brunch💓
K.
Nice cafe with a nice greenhouse/outdoor seating area in the middle of a big student area. Very popular with the Reading students as a place to have breakfast or lunch after a heavy night. Lovely owner and waitresses! Only downside is the food is a bit pricy but that is fine for the affluent Reading students!
S.
Nice atmosphere and the eggs Benedict with avocado and chorizo were delicious! There are so many options, I will definitely go back to try everything.
H.
I came here for the first time about 4-5 years ago, when it was just starting up with my auntie. The food was to die for, since then every time I’ve been there, they have not disappointed. The staff have been amazing. They are very full now that they have more exposure so there is a bit of a wait to be seated, but it is worth it. Hoping to come this weekend.
A. K.
Yolk was perfect as always. The staff are really friendly, lovely ambience and the food is always brilliant. I love going there. Thank you guys!
I. C.
Amazing Food, Great service. Only downfall is that the venue is on the small side. Due to its popularity the queues are quite long but definitely worth the wait.
Will be back very soon to sample another mouth watering dish from the menu.
I. W.
I really do like this place. The only thing is the bacon is always so brittle that its unpleasant to eat. The fat on the bacon is like this weird golden colour. It’s unpleasant. But I’ll keep going back there.
A. H.
Fabulous food, great service and a clean and welcoming environment.
K. N.
A Lovely little cafe that serves all day.
Great quality food. The best in Reading and surround.
D.
I absolutely love this place! The staff is always so friendly and helpful (last week we wanted to be sat outside but all the tables were busy and the waiter nicely offered to bring a table outside on the terrasse for us).
There is often a queue but honestly I've never waited more than 10 minutes to be offered a table.
The food is delicious and so generous (I always go for the Canadian) I would eat there every day if I could haha.
Also be aware that they won't serve you if you have an allergy - some people seem to be so offended by it but I think it's the most sensible thing to do. They use nuts and everything in the kitchen so instead of complaining I would be grateful that they don't put the customers' health at risk! (and it happened to my friend who is intolerant to mushrooms...they explained to her that if she was allergic they couldn't serve her as it would be too risky for her health. We were surprised but we understood and didn't throw a tantrum because we're adult and we can understand that safety comes first).
The bad reviews left below make me think that some people will never be pleased or happy - quite sad frankly! Don't be put off and just go there to enjoy the nice food and great service. I will surely be back as soon as I can!
J. T.
Canadian breakfast was pretty special. I dipped my watermelon in the beans but I don't think you're supposed to. Bacon could have been crisper and the pancakes were a touch on the cakey side but frankly it's hard to whine when everything else was perfect, including the coffee.
G. S.
It's a decent breakfast, but not sure how it got 2nd place for best breakfast cafe. Firstly, the breakfast is expensive (nearly £10) for what you get, 2 eggs, one sausage (on the small side), one rasher of bacon, plus the other accoutrements of an English breakfast. Tea is extra as you'd expect (another £2). The reason for the 3 stars is that the sausage was overcooked with a charred side and consequently quite dry. The bacon was again, very dry, almost a cardboard like rather than crispy, but moist where it matters.
What are standout in the dish are the baked beans and the Herby potatoes. The bread is of good quality too.
A. S.
Nice straightforward menu with good breakfast, brunch and lunch options. Cute, cosy, very busy little place, which benefits from nice weather with outside seating. Very bubbly and helpful staff. Food can take a while to come on busy days, but staff always inform in advance when this is the case. Sadly the yolk in our Eggs Benedict was not runny, which was a shame. It was a bit hard and dry. Disappointing. Also we had to go and find our own salt and pepper, and sauce. Decent value for money, and good quality food, well presented. We walked to Yolk from the town centre, and I would recommend Yolk, if you're nearby or driving, but compared to places in the town centre, it's not really worth the walk.
M.
GO NOW!!! Best breakfast in Reading hands down! The staff are so kind - they got a chair for my pregnant girlfriend as we waited in the queue and another staff member moved a table and chairs outside for us because we were nervous to be indoors. My family are visiting next week and I'm planning on taking them because the food is so amazing and the portions are really generous.
I've read some ridiculous reviews where people moan about this café not being "inclusive" because the staff prefer not to gamble with people's lives when customers have severe allergies. It seems that the staff are more responsible than some moany parents out there!
M. B.
Great quality food. Eggs Benedict were amazing, perfectly made.
F. C.
Amazing place! I had not been there since pre-pandemic times and I have to say that their food quality has not changed at all. Food tastes great and they have something for everyone (almost as many vegan and vegetarian options as meaty ones).
PS: I would suggest that everyone tries the scrambled tofu. I tried a bit from my vegetarian partner and I instantly regretted having ordered eggs!
S. g.
Amazing .. I always enjoy being there and I have been a regular customer the past years .. I almost tried all of their menu to be honest. From the pancakes to the eggs Benedict, Açai bowl and their new Turkish eggs .. they keep surprising me ..
I love the staff 💕 they are very friendly and joyful
S. H.
Simply THE BEST Cafe food in the Reading/Maidenhead area! Everything I've ever had here has been spot on! The prices are some of the lowest too, how can this be for such great food??
Z. K.
Delicious breakfast/brunch. Place looks larger from the outside and seating is quite cosy but we enjoyed the veggie breakfast and the eggs Royal very much! Unfortunately, it's not very baby friendly so we had to leave the pushchair outside but apart from that it's well worth a visit.
N. S.
Delicious roast and very friendly servers, we had to wait in a queue before we were seated but it moved very quickly! My friend had dietary restrictions and they were very accommodating
S. T.
Very strong showing from cafe yolk. Decent coffee and interesting menu. Food was delicious but the mexican breakfast was (a) not mexican and (b) mega carb heavy, being 80% potato and 20% cheese. Staff were pleasant and my son had pancakes which were also good.
P. S.
Brilliant breakfast options can be had at Cafe Yolk! The herbed potatoes are the star of the morning menu, being crispy but not heavy....they are great. My partner had a simple meal of eggs & toast with the potatoes and I had Eggs Benedict. The Eggs Benedicts was served with a side of herbed potatoes and it was a delicious meal, with lots of hollandaise sauce left over after finishing the muffin stacks.
The tea is a bit pricey at £1.85 per cup, but that was the only niggle in an otherwise fine dining experience.
Off street parking looks like it would be a nightmare so you may want to look into public transportation.
C. D.
The breakfast is amazing, especially the Canadian breakfast. You get what you paid for, both quantity and quality. It is such a shame, the restaurant itself is tiny, sometimes you have to queue to get a seat...that is how properly it is. Best place to go !!!!!
D. B.
Savoury breakfast is great, coffee is okay.
Herby potatoes can become sickly, so split them if you can!
H. W.
A long wait to get in, but totally worth it
P. T.
Lovely place to eat and athmosphere! Recommended
K. H.
It was a decent place to have breakfast... for a small group (about 1-4). Because (do note) it's quite a small premise, and yet very well-known! So unless you are very patient with the long queue, it's better to arrive earlier than usual.
P.S. About the food, since it was my first time here, I won't be giving any review on it. But it's worth a try, see whether it suits your taste buds!
F.
Great chilled cafe - great menu.
T.
With lots of positive reviews, my family and I could not resist stopping in for breakfast to break up a journey from the south east to the south west. What a little gem this is. The cafe interior is simple yet comfortable and capable of catering for small groups. There is outdoor seating as well which is used in the warmer months. The atmosphere was buzzing with a constant stream of takeaway and dine-in customers resulting in the enjoyable sounds of conversation, laughter, coffee machines and a productive kitchen. The menu is simple but comprehensive enough to cater to most tastes and dietary persuasions. Full cooked breakfast, eggs Benedict, toasts, porridge and not to mention the sweet breakfasts with waffles and pancakes. Service was friendly, fast and the meals where presented well with sufficient portion sizes. Coffee was made with passion which was reflected in the flavour. Top all this off with very reasonable prices, making this place a worthy stop for an enjoyable breakfast. Last point, the cafe is kid friendly, while no specific kids menu, there is a great selection of freshly made juices. Oh! Did I mention waffles and pancakes? What kid doesn't behave for a serving of waffles or pancakes.
S. W.
Excellent cafe. The coffee was full of flavour and the bacon and brie toastie with skinny fries was presented well and delicious. The new extension looks great. Nice relaxed atmosphere
O.
Best kind of breakfast you can possibly imagine, lots of variation which are all delicious! Coffee is amazing and the staff are so kind
S. L.
Amazing brekkie.
Love the Canadian.
H. L.
Pretty tasty but none of it is really worth the price point compared to other available establishments. Good plating though!
J. W.
Fantastic food, and very quick service there was a slight queue outside but that just goes to show how good the place is
I. W.
If you love breakfast being made for you ! what are you waiting for !
J. B.
Loved the herby potatoes and the sausages. Pancakes a bit too sweet for me though.
Will definitely be back!
D. W.
Phenomenal breakfasts! Cafe Yolk, never disappoints! Even at their busiest times, food has always come quickly. Coffee is one of the best in Reading, and the portion sizes are reasonable for the price.
Talking of price, cafe yolk, is probably the most expensive breakfast in Reading. I will not deny, however that it is worth the premium price. The quality and presentation is outstanding, and puts other breakfast venues to shame.
My top 3 items on the list have got to be:
The Canadian
The Mexican Brunch
The Breakfast Burger
If you are in the area, and want a place to go out for breakfast/ brunch with a date, friends or family, you won't be disappointed at Cafe Yolk.
V. P.
The best breakfast & brunch in the town. We were there already theee times, we had pancakes, traditonal english breakfast, breakfast burger and everything was delicious! They have recently finished extension, so the seating capacity has been increased. Due to their popularity during the weekend is really busy there, please be aware you need to wait for a free table.
M. K.
Nice and quiet place for breakfast/ brunch. Good quality and fresh food, rly tasty. Rep+ !
S. M.
Nice place for a great breakfast. A bit pricey but excellent quality of food and drinks
I. V.
Cafe Yolk is amazing! Best food and service. Staff is very friendly and they serve you with a smile. It is quite small, but that's the beauty of it. After 10 it starts to get crowded but it doesn't stop you from having a fantastic time. I love it!
E.
My favourite breakfast place in town, just shame they are not on any delivery apps for those lazy mornings you don't feel like going out
R. H.
Lovely little cafe that knocks out lovely breakfasts. Quality is excellent with decent friendly service. Only slight gripe is the juices are not freshly squeezed, they come out of a bottle..
A. P.
Best breakfast in Reading for sure!
We had to wait around 20 minutes for a table which seems pretty normal at weekends but it was definitely worth it for the food. The French toast in particular was absolutely amazing!
O. P.
Crispy bacon, grilled sausages, melted cheese, a runny egg, charred brioche.. all topped off with some crispy herby potatoes. I don't think there's anything more you could ask for from a cafe.
Highly recommended
J. C.
One of the best places for breakfasts and brunches in Reading! The food is hearty, of high quality, and there is a good variety to choose from. The drinks are also excellent in their respect, and you also have a good selection to choose from. The staff are always welcoming and friendly, and will cater to your needs. I would have given this place a 5 star if it was a little bigger, because it’s always so busy (especially at peak times!), but that only means they’re excellent at what they do if the people keep coming - I’m for sure one of them :)
N. S.
Amazing breakfast options, be prepared for a long wait on the weekends. Went for a weekday lunch and got seats straight away. Good food and great smoothies too. Will definitely recommend. Tried the burger for the first time today and it was well worth it.
K.
Food was delicious and great value for money - just wish the queues and other relevant waiting times weren't so long!
A. A.
Lovely food, reasonably priced and friendly staff. Was quite busy, but we were dealt with right away. Great brunch spot
N. H.
Good cleanliness, decent space between tables. Staff were very welcoming.
Food was generously portioned, happy to customise the order to my spec. Taste was brilliant, hot and finished all too quick. Will definitely be coming back.
J. B.
Amazing food and fantastic customer service . Upon arrival we had to wait around 30 minutes to be seated as queue was massive but I now understand why everyone wants to be there . Food came quick considering how busy the cafe was and it was delicious . I'm not local but I will definitely come back in near future:)
S. F.
Lovely selection of vegetarian options. Friendly service. Fantastic quality of food.
K. M.
Excellent food. Cooked fresh to order so expect to have to wait for it.
Update July 2019: visited again and it's as good as ever. There's some building work going on as they are expanding out. However, the work isn't disruptive to customers and it's going to look great when it's done, and will provide some much needed capacity.
D. S.
Loved it, varied menu and nice drinks. Had to wait a while as it's quite a small venue
J. N.
I went there for a breakfast birthday and
everything was perfect, food is great.
The welcoming & very friendly staff gave me a cake as soon as they find out it was my birthday.
One of the jewels of Reading.
M. R.
Been for brunch a number of times. Never disappointed! Favourite brunch place in Reading. It does get busy tho, especially at weekends, but for good reason
B. J.
There's a reason why this place has won awards. It's lush! I ordered the peach cobbler pancakes, with a mango and pineapple yoghurt smoothie, and OH MY GOD it was divine. Highly reccomend!
s. g.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Food is ver good above standard. Price reflects quality, cakes are homemade and vary, delicious. Only bit of advice is get here early!! The queue can be sometimes challenging as it's very popular. Good outdoor seating accomadation
J. F.
What a lovely clean and friendly place.
And a great choice of Food
Great shout it opens at nine on a Sunday morning
J. K.
Delicious and huge portion breakfast. They do make proper coffee. Seems like a popular spot for locals.
D. B. G.
My favourite place in Reading, the vanilla milkshake is the reason I normally visit Café Yolk but the food is also delicious.
M. C.
Frequently visit Cafe Yolk and I am always happy with the food and the service, they recently expanded and it can seat many more people. Very popular spot in Reading for breakfast/lunch
N. K.
Nice place...open at 8 am for breakfast...had the vegetarian option...warm and tasty...friendly staff...will return!
L. c.
I guess is one of the best in town. Very good breakfast and coffee. However, it is a bit short on space,so make sure to book a table in advanced or come early !
R. Y.
Yum. The food has improved since I last visited. Highly recommended though it's not cheap and it gets seriously busy...
N. Y.
Smoothie machine wasn't working when we were there which is unfortunate, coffee was really good and would come back for it.
We had the French toast which was decent, I had asked for the yogurt to come separately but was still served on the same place which was a shame as my coffee also wasn't served in my reusable cup which I was told could be done. No big deal though, staff were friendly regardless.
A. S.
Best breakfast in Reading. Been twice and couldn't resit the Canadian breakfast both times. Unfortunately the coffee is just ok, but this doesn't take away from a great breakfast.
The place is still (after a recent refurb) pretty tiny- I imagine its tough to get a seat at the weekend- but I have been on weekday and was seated straight away

Brilliant breakfast & tasty takeaway treats.
I arrived around 10ish on a Friday morning & it was still pretty busy. There was a table available inside, so my friend & I sat inside target than out. We ordered 2 x full English breakfast, YOLK-style, with a latte & americano. Very quick service, everything was cooked well & not overdone - yolks were runny (yay!), bacon crispy, simply gorgeous sausages & well toasted toast ... I couldn't have cooked better myself (& thank goodness I could just walk away from the washing up).
We also bought 3 slices of an apple/caramel/? frangipani cake to eat later and comfort DH after he missed breakfast. They were really delicious & i would definitely recommend trying them. The whole thing was pretty good value for money, too, at £30 all in.
The only slight downside was the noise level, so next time I'd be tempted to sit outside, but my friend and I still managed to have a good conversation after we'd finished eating (which took a while)...
Thank you café YOLK!

Great food as always (10/10) and friendly service from staff! Second time back and I would highly recommend. 👌🏻 Only improvement could be crowd control of people waiting outside, the system isn’t the best.
A. C.
Lovely menu with great vegan options. Very nice place too
A. B.
Been here a few times now and love it. Food is amazing .It can be very busy so have to wait for food (hence 4 stars ) but otherwise no faults. Love that it has a wide range of vegetarian options aswell .
J.
Brilliant place. Been plenty of times and the service, food and coffee always faultless. Often take the dog too and she even gets a friendly welcome. Definitely no better café in Reading.
m. R.
The best breakfast in reading, by a large margin.
To preface this is a statement solely on the food quality, other factors may displease.
The property is quite small and has the obvious problems with this, the cramptness is noteworthy if that kind of thing bothers you.
Onto the menu it has all the regular breakfast staples. As well as more curated items such as a Mexican style breakfast. All to the highest quality
Drinks are simmilarly impressive, fresh juice, proper coffee aswell as amazing smoothies.
E. O.
Pretty good food presented in a lovely way. Would recommend
A. J.
Very nice good but a can of drink for 2.50 bit steep overall friendly staff 8/10
C. S.
Excellent breakfast café. The food is delicious, the portions are generous and the staff are lovely. Waited outside for a takeout and staff were extremely attentive. The French toast is amazing.
D. G.
Very relaxed environment. Venue is perfect for catch up with a friend/s or family for light eating, or even for some alone time.
K. S.
Food is always fabulous. Just had a smoothie today, banana & strawberry with coconut milk
D. S.
Very good breakfast... Very quick & polite service with a smile ;)
S. R.
Excellent food and great service.

The place was super busy on a hot, sunny May bank holiday morning. I'd wanted to visit for a while as it's quite a lovely, unique establishment for the neighbourhood and Reading in general. Anyway, there was a huge queue and it almost put us off but we were told it would be approximately 10 minutes wait for a table (much to our surprise). I'm sure it's impossible to gauge these things as you never know how long someone is going to stay at their tables when they've finished. The queue was very justified as once we were in and sat at possibly the worst table in the house; however, we ordered swiftly to have a fantastic Black Velvet milkshake, great coffees, decent Eggs Royale and oustanding French Toast. We didn't hang about because the queue had only grown since we'd been in there but service was friendly and swift with a genuine charm. Definitely be going back there soon.
A. C.
The best breakfast/brunch (non-boozy) place in Reading. You could be in Central London and still need to search to find food of this quality.
Great ambience and staff as well.
Note, ALWAYS have herb potatoes on your plate. You will thank me :)
j.
Fantastic food!!! Please note there is no kids menu. But the staff go above and beyond to provide you with an alternative. AMAZING customer service. Worth the wait
M. D.
Tasty brunch food. Not cheap, but then you get what you pay for. Always rammed with students - don't really know how, given that it's quite pricey, but this means a fairly long wait, at the busy times.
My fav menu pic so far is the Mexican brunch with chorizo. Om-nom-nom. Get in my belly!
F.
Beautifully crafted food, a fabulous place for anyone looking for an alternative environment, good food and fab staff.
C. A.
Great food but in danger of being over priced.
D. N.
Excellent surroundings, excellent food, delightful staff, lovely visit.
M. S.
Lovely food and coffee as usual. Space is easily crowded though, no matter what time and day of the week.
M. G.
Really lovely local cafe. Great atmosphere, food and service. Hard to find all 3!
The pancakes are great!!
i. m. v.
Amazing food and people working here are lovely
c. s.
Its a shame you can't swap around . I asked to swap my beans for a egg and i had to pay extra for that. For the price is a small portion.
S. I.
This is a little gem! Great vanilla milkshake and the breakfast burger was soooo so good!
Can't recommend enough!
H. S.
By far the best breakfast place in town. Every meal looks and tastes extraordinary. The only thing that might put off people is long que times during weekends and holidays, but I can assure you that the wait is more than justified. The staff is always friendly and the place aims to employ local students which is nice. If you are in Reading make sure to stop by.
D. S.
Great food, good portion size, great service. Perfect for Sunday morning brunch. Be prepare for a little bit of a queue.
M. S.
The only place you should consider when you want to have an amaziiiing brunch! The canadian breakfast and the oreo shake are to die for! !!
C. N.
One of the best place for a tasty meal. This restaurant prides itself with sourcing it products ethically which means they are fresher and taste better. The price is reasonable and the venue, which has been renovated recently, is warm and welcoming. It is quite popular and so be prepared for a short wait. Not much else to do in the area but definitely worth visiting if you are ever in Reading.
W.
Great food, lovely staff. Well behaved dogs welcome in the outdoor seating area.
A.
Absolutely delicious food and great service. We had a full English breakfast here, my favorite breakfast so far that I had in England.
The quality of sausage, bacon, how well running eggs were cooked. Bins . Good Coffee. yummy . I would come back with pleasure again!
And they have huge milkshakes that look delicious but I couldn’t have it as i was feeling too full after my breakfast :).
This yolk is a perfect example of the perfect breakfast cafe.
A. R.
I have been coming here nearly every Sunday for over a year now and have never had a bad breakfast!
I have never been somewhere that consistently serves such amazing food. The food comes fast and if there is a wait they will let you know before you order. Such a great vibe and the staff are so friendly.
The best scrambled and poached eggs around, the pancakes are also a work of art. I will not go anywhere else for a brunch as I know I will be let down.
To another year of happy brunching at yolk! 🎉
G. O.
We stumbled across Cafe Yolk on a Sunday morning just as it was opening and sat outside for breakfast. Just as well we turned up when we did as people was arriving from all directions and a few minutes later the place was full and bustling. Had superb food and freindy fast service.. Top marks...
S.
Tasty food. Well made coffee. Great service. I liked the covered outside space and the vibe of the cafe. Well worth a visit.
g. a.
Reviews were right, great place, great food, friendly stuff, great environment.
M. O.
Best brunch place in Reading. Everything I've tried so far has been delicious! The coffee, the eggs, the pancakes, French toast, I would recommend all of it! The service is also very friendly and efficient. The only issue with this place is that it's very popular and there's usually a queue. The outdoor seating has space most of the time.
Z. Z.
Love the ambiance, friendly staff, delicious breakfast.
D. P.
Lovely food and staff. Will visit again
B. W. (. M. W.
Very good food with a great menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner it's always busy. The only downside is you can't book but it's well worth the wait
J. C.
Best breakfast I've had in years 😋
N. B.
Friendly staff, the place was buzzing even on a weekday.
We enjoyed our breakfast. Highly recommend!
L. L.
Nice place. Portions could be bigger. For £8.50 you would expect 2 rashers of bacon and 2 sausages.
A. D.
Great bunch spot with so much choice of some classic and new brunch dishes. A lot of thought went into the menu. Nice to see they have some more vegan options too. Delicious food.
Only minor downside is that the herby potatoes, since lockdown, are a lot less herby and cut very thick so end up tasting very potatoe-y and thus loosing the flavour. This has happened in the three occasions that I have been here since it re-opened. Hope this improves as it seems like the only thing that's lacking in their otherwise great cafe.
K. P.
Amazing food, really well priced. Staff go above and beyond to seat you quickly, even when there is a big queue, without rushing your meal at all. If you go at the weekend it will be busy because its a popular place! Expect to to wait a few minutes for a table and you won't be disappointed, there's a good system in place and the manager is totally on top of the seating at all times. Would give 6 stars if I could.
E. J.
I had a lovely brunch here on Friday 24th of July 2020. I was happy to seen all the Covid 19 arrangements were in place , but it did not detract from the experience at all. We had very good service and the food we chose came promptly and was delicious and high quality .The extra special experience we had was regarding a member of staff who went the “extra mile “. He overheard us as we were leaving , discussing that we had forgotten our face masks so could not go shopping ; he then produced two masks for us with a flourish, to take away ,which we thought was very kind and quite unexpected.Thank you .
K. C. S.
Small cafe with English Traditional dishes- bacon , sausage and eggs , pancakes and sandwiches.
I. K.
Excellent choices for breakfast and brunch. There are a lot of vegan dishes. Great pancakes and smoothies. It is usually very crowded on the weekends so you might need to make a reservation. The environment is fine, and the prices very logical.
S. S.
A great place for a really nice array of different breakfasts. The traditional fry up with a mug of tea is still there... nice and hot and quite quick too! You may have to sit outside for a little until a table becomes available though... it's popular.
f.
Great place for breakfast with a nice menu and the best eggs I've had in a while, I'm not even a fan of eggs! It's a tucked away gem but seems to be busy all of the time, had to wait for a good 20 minutes for a table, but once we were sat, it was worth it.
R. H.
The Canadian @ Cafe Yolk
G. M.
Independent coffee and breakfast location in the centre of the student area. Really good food and they've just extended so it now has double the seating capacity all year round. The smoothies are really good and so is the food, only issue is the wait, not somewhere to visit if you're in a rush. It also gets really noisy so can be hard to hear when it's busy
L. M.
Tasty brunch and good coffee, bit short on space though so might be a wait
S. R.
Awesome breakfasts serviced here. Fast, friendly service. The eggs Benedict with chorizo and avocado is to die for.
F.
Fab food. Not really sure how they're getting round the 'Table Service Only' law. Made me a little uncomfortable having to queue in a very small area with staff constantly waking past to get to tables. Service was okay could have been friendlier but food was amazing
P. P. O.
Food was great! Visited for brunch with some friends. It is a long queue to get seated but it's fine if you're in a group and aren't pressed for time so you can chat during the wait. I wouldn't mind visiting again!
K. L.
Being a fellow Canadian, this place really hits the home run.
The owner had this and was made from her grandmothers receipes. Seriously, whether you’re there after a night out or just want an amazing breakfast, this is the place to go to.
And their eggs are number one in the country. Not just by cooking but also where they are supplied from. Hence the name!!!!!
j. k.
Would recommend that you forget that last drink on a night out and put the money towards a fantastic breakfast.
Food was incredible, worth the wait, but the wait allowed you to see what was coming out of the kitchen so you chose the best item on the menu.
If you are in a rush, get there early as there is a queue out the door.
Smoothies are good too 😁
R. P.
Great Brunch spot. Is a busy little cafe so expect a short wait if you would like to be sat inside during busier times of the day. And then the wait for the food to arrive too. When the food does come it is more than worth it. The food was all fresh and cooked really well. Despite having a fantastic plate of food in front of me, was still jealous of plates coming out of the kitchen of dishes I am yet to order.
Not sure if you can tell but I enjoyed my brunch.
G. K.
Easy to see why Cafe YOLK is so busy. We had the Canadian breakfast which was truly magnificent. A well run cafe with efficient and very friendly service & staff. Great atmosphere. Will return.
E. J.
Wasn't impressed by food or drinks. Took ages to arrive and wasn't as good as expected...
R. P.
Love this place. Lovely food and a lively youthful vibe. And keeps on delivering 😋
M. K.
My frequent stop for takeaway and late breakfast. Coffee and menu is exceptional with classics and also with their originals. Being one of the most popular coffeehouse in town, it occasionally gets too crowded with long waiting times both for getting seated and served but to me it is bearable. Inside can get noisy as they hammer some holder down to empty coffee leftover each time they make espresso, so it is not your usual workplace.
h.
Great service and huge menu with lots of options. Food also tasted as good as it looked. I'd recommend the Canadian breakfast and blueberry smoothie!
N. C.
Tasty, nutritious food dog friendly and good times
J. B.
Lovely food and smoothies. Areas of improvement? Please please please ditch the plastic.
T. A.
The best breakfast in reading! Amazing service and food quality! Was a bit short on space but was recently renovated and extended to offer more seating space. Staff are an absolute delight! I normally go for the eggs royal which are always cooked to perfection.
A. C.
Delicious food! Service is a bit long but everything is fresh! The inside is a bit noisy. Have a table outside if you can and enjoy ;)
S. C.
Friendly staff, very welcoming. Good service and the food was excellent. Good coffee. Can get a little noisy like all cafe, bistros. Lack of parking is painful as well trodden warden area will catch you out. Prices are reasonable.
L. M.
Great independent cafe with such a varied menu. Is nearly always busy, because it's good, so in winter can be crammed full of people but in summer the outside seating area is perfectly pleasant. Staff are always polite and their presentation of drinks and food is thoughtful and appetising.
M. H.
This is my local cafe and it has been an absolute life-saver - as well as vibrant community hub - over the past several years. Great coffee, great food and great staff. Thanks for all you do!
H. W.
Might have to wait outside in the rain, because it's tiny and busy, but totally worth it! great quality food (the pancakes are the kind you dream about months later) even though it was supper busy and the staff were working flat out non-stop for the whole hour we were there they were still friendly, polite and more than happy to do anything they could to make you happy. If you haven't been yet go, hands down best breakfast in Reading.
R. L.
Fast service, comfortable, clean and airy. I had gluten free bread with me eggs Benedict which was a tad dry and didn't feel fresh, however the rest was great.
D. f. j. T.
I went to this cafe called yolk couple of months ago and forgot to add a review. First up if it's busy it's busy. Unfortunately you can't have an omelette without breaking eggs... sorry couldn't resist. But basically if somewhere is good everyone is going to go there. Saying that by the staff are very accommodating and I like the food and the little twists they put on plating up.
A. T. H. A.
Had the pancakes with bacon and syrup, it was so yummmmmy 😋definitely coming back.
S. S.
The best pancakes I ever ate!! A variety of options. I tried different options on menu and was never disappointed. Fresh and tasty meals. The staff is friendly and always smiling. Would be perfect if prices would be a bit cheaper, but it won't stop me from going again. Definitely recommend!
T. E.
Beautiful place
M. E.
A wonderful place I hear; the pancakes stack is drenched in beautifully rich blackcurrant sauce, with a lemon butter drizzle around the edge of the plate - presentation worthy of Masterchef. The breakfasts are sumptuous, with cubed herbed fried potatoes the star of a full plate. Chai Latte is served with a cinnamon sprinkled no-entry sign on top (bit strange, but unique) and their home made milkshakes are loved by my girls. The only problem is it's popular, but they seat by arrival and you have a number and can wander over the road to by a paper from the shop and not lose your place in the queue. Why "I hear"? Well I go between 11 and 12 on Sunday mornings and it's awful then.. they must have a substitute chef for that hour. I beg you, please don't visit then, you'll regret it. ;-)
W. B.
Really great breakfasts and burgers, trendy spot with a good amount of outside seating for summer. Always packed though, and if you don't go early enough you're likely to end up waiting for about 40 mins. If the weather is bad or cold there is such limited seating inside that many aren't able to wait. Food is top notch, though, and the owners are really friendly!
A. H.
I love café yolk, been going for years. The food is excellent with huge portions that doesn't skimp on quality. Its a huge hit with students which means its really busy, but during the week outside the main term makes it easier.
C. G.
Excellent food, very good prices for a decent plate of full English and friendly staff. The cafe isn't that big and you can't book ahead, but arriving a bit before 10 should get you a seat. Be prepared to have to sit outside though and wait a bit longer for your food if it's busy. It's worth the wait though, under £10 for a good, solid breakfast is always a win.
R. ..
As usual great food and the staff is super kind. We asked if you could have a table inside and they worked a space for us and our little 20month old baby.
She loved the pancakes, which were amazing, and the English breakfast was yummy. We will come back again.
Thank you x
B. B.
Always great food and fantastic coffee. The cake was a little sweet for my liking, but everyone else loved it. The only reason for the missing star is that it's hard to get a table because it's so popular so you can be a little crammed in.
D. B.
Very good food. Good service.
P. S.
Great cafe, decent quality of food, excellent service by all team members and a great ambiance. Its like a small escape from the daily runaround. Will be going as often as possible and highly recommend.
K. C.
Brilliant customer service & social distancing rules - super excellent coffee and food!
S. D.
Fabulous food, clean and modern restaurant and efficient service. We stayed briefly for a quick bite and that worked well, but others were clearly there for a more leasurely lunch and that was equally well accommodated. Avocado and Jalapeno Toasty is very recommended. Will hopefully return many times.
A. H.
My favourite haunt for lunch. Always packed with loyal customers so expect to wait for a table in peak times (15-20 minutes) but it is SO worth it. All the hallmarks of a family run business thriving. Only suggestion: BRING BACK THE PEANUT BUTTER AND JAM TOASTIE!! Yum yum!
T. S.
YOLK is fantastic! A great menu presenting strong value for money. Despite focussing on breakfasts, the menu is varied and has plenty of other options.
The interior of the restaurant is extremely cramped, but food is generally served quickly. The place is always busy, especially on weekends.
E. O.
Great and friendly service here and always a beautifully presented and tasty meal served.
S. S.
Food is excellent, had a great breakfast. Staff are also great!
D.
Wow! Reading's best hidden secret. 15minute walk from Royal Berkshire hospital with very little parking you'll find this amazing cafe. Great atmosphere, packed every day of the week. The food is great and as the name suggests is all about eggs... And boy do they cook them well! Good price too. Well worth a visit
C. H.
Had a delicious lunch with an amazing snickers milkshake
J. C.
Lovely little cafe with a nice selection of options for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. As others have said the service is friendly and the food is tasty. Only thing I would be tempted to mark it down for is the use of disposable plastic cups for the smoothies.
N. M.
Really nice food and atmosphere at this café, iced coffee is amazing!
L. D.
really lovely cafe, really nice staff and excellent food - especially the herby potatoes. I would recommend getting there early as sometimes there's a queue outside but definitely worth the wait
i.
I went there with my girlfriend for my birthday and the breakfast was delicious!! The staff were really really friendly and helpful. When they found out it was my birthday we got a free slice of cake (which was amazing) and they sang Happy Birthday to me 😄 We'll definitely be going back soon!
R. B.
Really good cafe. Friendly, good coffee and the breakfasts being served look excellent. It can get very busy and you may have to wait for a seat especially during University term time. Also, like a lot of modern buildings it is very echoey inside so can be hard to have a conversation.
s.
The breakfasts looked pretty good. I had the burger which wasn't great, way too much salad even after I'd removed half of it, processed cheese, an OK patty that was too small for the bun and a stingy single thin rasher of streaky bacon.. Bit of of a shame really as reading is by no means blessed with descent places to eat. The staff where all keen and friendly and I'd probably go back but avoid the burger. It's a nice little Cafe that the area needs a few more of.
C. B.
Great place for breakfast. Please install baby change facilities!!
A. A. A.
If you like the traditional English breakfast! Cafe YOLK will be a good choice.
R. B.
Lovely good quality food with decent portion sizes. Place is usually very busy with up to 30 minutes wait for a table. Parking is highly restricted in the surrounding area so you may have to walk a bit to after finding a spot.
That's however no fault of Cafe Yolk, just something to bare in mind.
J. V.
One of the best breakfast experiences you're ever likely to have. The staff will greet you as you enter and they're always smiling. You can order as much or as little as you want and they're always happy to make substitutions. The coffee from the machine is strangely impressive - often small cafes like this lack a good coffee game. This one does flat whites to die for. They're always happy to ask if you'd like something extra, and the food generally comes within 15-20 minutes. I've heard it gets busy later, but I'm an early riser anyway. The best breakfast in town and very happy to be living just down the road!
M. C.
Absoutely outstanding. Reasonably priced, quick and excellent customer service. We will be back!
P. S.
Not sure how I missed this gem after staying in Reading for a few years now. Better late than never.
This cafe is set out in one of the quiter streets in Reading, but once u get there you'l not miss it as the vibes outside this cafe is amazing.
People queuing up, chatter and colorful.
Loved the food and the service, they do justice to the name... every Egg dish is just the best!
P. C.
A great place to go for brunch! There are loads of different options in the menu for everyone's taste! They also have lovely pancakes, waffles and good coffee! What else would you ask for. Make sure you call them in advanced to book a table to avoid disappointment as it can get very crowded!.
A. B.
Good coffee although 2/2 times the waitress spilled drink on the table. Price of small pack of biscuits phenomenally high (~£1.80?). Food very good, Mexican brunch recommended!
S. A.
Delicious brunch and coffee! Great that there is outdoor seating. I would have expected there to be a switch to table service and more distancing measures in place given the current guidelines.
s. d.
Really nice food, fantastic every time we go. Must pick up courage to have the French toast next time, it is huge
B. A.
The best place in the town 😍
T. N.
Went in for breakfast, staff were lovely and very helpful. Ordered the Salmon Eggs Benedict, my go to when trying a new cafe. Eggs were over cooked and not runny which was the only disappointed, the rest was an enjoyable experience and have been back a few times since.
B. B.
The best coffee and food I've ever had.
Fully professional staff, very friendly with a great approach. You will always receive warm welcome. Do not hesitate to try that lovely place.
O. L.
me and my friends all love Yolk, even if there usually is a slight wait due to its popularity it is well worth it. Lot's of tasty veggie options and they even have a vegan breakfast option if you ask at the till. My only criticism is that it would be amazing if they invested in vegan butter for the toast or even bought some Linda McCartney sausages so that they could come with the vegan breakfast.
Also, the vegetarian version of the Mexican Brunch omits the chorizo in the original but doesn't offer a substitute. An extra egg or something in replacement so it feels like you are getting your moneys worth would be appreciated.
Other than that highly recommend!
D. H.
Lovely food, nearly completed their extension to allow more seating although this will still fill up quickly. A victim of their own success :-D. My only critic of my last visit is they made a couple of mistake with my order.
N. R. J.
Great friendly service, excellent food and a nice atmosphere.
G. D.
Every time we go we have a very pleasant experience and the food is always spot on. Staff are busy but extremely courteous .One of our favourite places to dine in Reading.
C. P.
I just ordered a good Americano coffee with soya milk on a week-day morning. It's obviously popular; busy with customers. Lovely atmosphere; full of students all chatting. Other customers were tucking into some great looking late breakfasts. Happy service with a smile. Vegetarian breakfast all day.
G. H.
We are regulars at this fab brunch spot - the food and coffee is reliably delicious (and we are coffee snobs) by far the best in the area and they’ve got plenty of veggie and vegan options to suit everyone. Highly recommend!
R. W.
Best place for breakfast in Reading.
A. G.
Had a very good breakfast with my group of friend, Canadian Breakfast is a good choice assuming you're hungry. Nice food, friendly staff but a little small, although the outside area is good if the extend the veranda.
J. S.
The staff are super friendly and are never too busy to have a chat or deal with any concerns that you may have. Sometimes its busy and theres a little wait, but I can guarantee the food is well worth waiting for. The lattes are to die for (which is why I have one freshly made every morning!)
S. R.
Had a cheeky weekday brunch of pancake stacks for two. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. Have had their full English on a previous occasion, which was also fab. Highly recommended.
C. C.
Great menu selection covering a wide range of breakfast/brunch options. Just remember you can't book so at times there may be a wait but it's worth it!
E. R.
Outstanding breakfast at reasonable prices. Fast and fresh service - eggs with runny yolks! I especially recommend the eggs florentine. It can be eggs-tremely busy at weekends though - to the eggs-tent that people make use of the outdoor seating even in winter!
S. G.
Excellent breakfast! Coming from a chef with impeccably high standards. Awesome job guys, look forward to my next visit.
K. S.
This place offers good food with a friendly staff. They won't mind amending orders to suit your needs and adding extras if you need it - sounds standard - you're paying so why not? They just make sure to give you great value for money on your order. It's always packed in the mornings as it's a student area.
A. D.
There is an exciting range of sweet and savoury options for breakfast, brunch and light lunch. May require a 15-20 minute wait but is worth it. The herby fries are great!
k. s.
Absolutely delicious! Probably the best hollandaise sauce I've ever had. Definitely worth any wait. The staff were all absolutely lovely. Perfect way to start the day
R. F.
It's okay had more value for money elsewhere in Reading.
Was surprised to find such high reviews,
I had a Canadian breakfast and my partner the 3 stacked pancake.
In my plate everything was OK except for the pancakes that were below average, everything else was OK.
G. S.
Really friendly staff, helped my friend with his buggy as well and went out if their way to accommodate. Food was very well done and mocha is one of the best I have had in a while. Little pricey but you get what you pay for.
B. O.
The food here is really high quality and tasty. The prices are a little high so wouldn't visit too often. But really loved my visit. The staff were so friendly and after 2pm it gets much quieter.
A. K.
Good food and decent prices. The waiting time was a bit long to get sited that could be avoided if the cafe allowed bookings
W. L.
Quirky little cafe, tucked away in East Reading. Excellent service and fabulous food. We went at a busy time and had to wait 20 minutes (which our server explained at outset) but it was well worth the wait. Top marks.
F. A. R.
Nice place, very clean and friendly. The salmon omelette with herby potatoes was delicious and not greasy. I'll be back.
s. t.
I like to drop in at yolk when I have the time which sadly isn't often. Usually when I'm dropping off or picking up laundry at a nearby laundrette. When I do have time to eat there I look forward to it.
Great food and coffee at Yolk with a freshly made breakfast cafe menu. The cafe is clean and tidy and the food is good quality prepared by a chef. On my short list of places I think of when I'm hungry. Its not often i write a review but decided to write one after looking back at all my recent visits.
C. B.
Absolutely delicious food! Would recommend to anyone!
N. C.
After multiple visits Yolk serves the best breakfasts. Friendly staff and more spacious since the refurbished. If driving here then park on Junction Road for "2 hrs no return" and a minute walk, or pay at meter...
Z. C.
Excellent food, coffee was a little cold and we ate around 1 hour and 45 minutes from when we turned up... I don't think they have the seating or the kitchen staff necessary for the popularity of the café
D. S.
Very, very cool place! Lots of nice egg dishes and a perfect place for a gals brunch. Maybe come a little later in the morning on a Sunday as it was very busy!
S. S.
Really nice food, smoothies are lovely, great choice for vegetarians too! Slightly expensive, this is not the usual cafe, but a slightly more up market version of a cafe.
B. M.
Gets very busy, all the time. Good menu and food was good. On our particular visit, they only took cash. We will go again.
G. B.
Turkish eggs were sensational!! 👌
P. C.
Loving place. Went with my partner for breakfast and the smoothies are massive and really tasty! Food was also really nice and fresh. Recommended.

I have only heard & read good reports on this cafe but this was my first visit & I have to agree with the reports it's an excellent little cafe & it's easy to see why it is always busy the menu is full of great choices which are well presented at a competitive price we were very impressed & will return.
Parking can be an issue but I can't blame the café for that

04.05.19 update. Went on a sunny busy Sunday they don't take rsrvtns so you will always need to wait.
I have spoken with Pawel (mngr) to complaint no power sockets and he told me refurbishment it's coming. 👍
Great piece of advice don't you ever seat close to the bar and coffee machine as the bloke there was hammering the coffee filter making impossible to hear my beautiful date and we were laughing about it, better to be outside as far less noisier. 😋
17.08.17 Cool place surrounded by lical and students, friendly staff.
No carpark, any plug for lptps or phns =0[
Yes WIFI, all mayor cards accepted.
V. V.
Completely clean, well spaced out dining places.
All food was cooked to absolute perfection, will definitely be returning in the future!

It was amazing. The breakfast was awesome. I recommend to visit for breakfast or brunch. It’s nice to walk from the center to this place. The service was super polite and friendly. If you are in Reading you have to visit it.
N. P.
They use fairly decent produce but this does come at a price, if Your like me and believe cheap sauges and bacon tasting better than the posh stuff the all-day breckfast will not be for you. Don't get me wrong it's good but an all-day breckie should be nice and greasey
C. B.
Food and staff are always lovely. There is normally a wait for a table but that usually isn't long and shows the popularity of the cafe. Really enjoy it here
J. B.
The food here is absolutely amazing, perfect hangover cure. The only downside is that it's so popular that it can be difficult to get a seat indoors. They are fixing this though with a new extension
H. C.
Great brunch spot, always busy but everybody is friendly and the wait isn’t usually horrendous. Large patio too—good spot to hit while walking your dogs!
M. D. S.
You come here for the food and service.
Great brunch.
Tiny place and is likely you'll have to wait to be seated.
Recommend to try the Oreo milkshake.
F. d. T.
Alwqys quite busy with a bit of a wait, but the wqit is always worth it. Good food qt a reasonalble price. Friendly staff. My fave brunch spot in Reading for sure!
J. W.
Really really great food and fantastic coffee, but basically no space to sit down inside (always a 30 min wait) and no option to call ahead to go on the waitlist or book a table.
r. c.
I really like this place but it's quite popular during the weekend so you might need to wait a bit to get a table. Delicious pancakes and hot chocolate :)
R. O.
Amazing breakfast burger. Thanks!
C. A.
Wonderful meal, friendly service and well worth queuing to get in .
A. Q. (.
They do a bloody good breakfast there for a good price and it does fill you up so you're warned as it might bust your gut a bit, be careful about the parking though as it may be troublesome for people who drive in Reading but that's irrelevant to the cafe really so it gets 5 stars from me
R. Y.
Great cafe, excellent food and service, though it gets very busy weekend mornings so arrive early or expect to queue. A tad expensive, but highly recommended
R. D.
What an amazing find. Great food, service and ambience. Bit loud inside due to boomy room and only paid roadside parking but it's well worth it!
S. O. r.
Outdoor seating area food on the steep price a little wait for food
H. J.
10/10 I had a lovely eggs Benedict and the owner gave me and my mum a mask when we needed one. A great spot !
a.
Finally got to the popular Cafe Yolk in fashionable understated Erleigh Road.
Found a tight table on a Tuesday morning. Inside Yolk is buzzy & chatty, a little animated. Reminded me of West London.
I ordered a plain looking Americano when noticing the Affogato. Never had an Affogato before. So overdosed. The drink? Was cooler than I had imagined. The ice cream comfortably defeats the espresso. A drink you might feed your children to encourage adult coffee drinking. il modo italiano.

Very good and reasonably priced cafe in Reading. Forget all the franchises in the centre, try something new! Fantastic pancakes and waffles, authentic homemade burgers.
S. M.
Very tasty food! Full English and Canadian breakfasts both eggcellent, the portions sizes are cracking and the milk shakes a whisked to perfection 👌🏻
Would definitely rEGGonmend!
C. A.
Amazing brunch. Always a line, but it moves quickly
M. B.
Really nice cafe. The food there is great. It's liked so much that there were people queuing outside the door for a table, even in the snow.
D. H.
Had brunch here with my wife and son, thumbs up all round. Great food, great service and reasonably priced.
M. K.
Delicious food, however there's usually a queue to order and it isn't always easy or clear if there are tables and how long it will take to get your order.
R. Y.
Always superb coffee, food and service. Impeccably clean. Can get busy in the weekends. Highly recommended...
K.
Amazing friendly environment. Go early enough or wait for the queue that grows as students wake up. Do not go full double as everything is big. Just order what would make you full and chill
L. P. S.
Great place, delicious food and very friendly staff! I don't remember a better brunch.. oh, yes, two months ago at Café YOLK 😉
z. m.
Amazing brunch spot. Very popular with good reason. Love the vegan options, and the smoothies are great.
L. L.
Great coffee and breakfast options. AlwAys packed.
A. H.
Way exceeded expectations! Absolutely delicious and innovative brunch options (with the classics) and fantastic coffee. Couldn’t recommend more.
M. T.
Delicious food and drink at reasonable prices. Soft boiled yolks not quite runny. Ironic considering the title, but v tasty nonetheless.
M. O.
Speaks volumes that they only really get marked down because they’re busy! Easily best breakfast and coffee in Reading that we’re aware of, we come here all the time now.
J. G.
Amazing food and super friendly staff. Canadian breakfast all the way! Only downside is the tiny building, so sometimes impossible to get a seat.
l.
Delicious coffe. Super smily friendly staff. 100% recommend!
D. B.
Great food. Friendly staff. Nice looking space. Priced lower than you might expect. Good coffee.
M. L.
The food is nice but a bit overpriced and waiting time is frustrating. I saw people seated after me being served before me which made me fume as I was so hungry.
C. N.
A great venue for breakfast. So much to choose from
R. W.
We always go here for brunch, and the food is always so nice. Sometimes it's difficult to get a table or there's a long-ish wait, but that's only because it's so popular, especially with students!
N. F.
Best pancakes around. Very busy and popular but worth the wait.
K. D.
Yolk is one of my favourite places for breakfast. I'd recommend getting there by 9:30am to miss the mid morning rush. It gets pretty busy.
V. M.
Lovely food, good service and good prices. Definitely, worth's visiting!
P. K.
Excellent place for fantastic food, just that you may have to wait for quite sometime to get it. Will rate 5 stars if wait for food can be reduced
S. C.
An idéal brunch place. The food is really good with a fair amount of variety and options.
It's kinda hipsters place as well. But families love it too.
S. T.

A. G.
Love this place, food is fantastic and staff really friendly and accommodating. Gets very busy so you may have to wait for a table
Z. F. M.
Sunday morning 930 the place was completely full and we had to wait ca 10 minutes but really worth it. Really nice food reasonable prices and quick service
R. M.
Amazing breakfast, although it looks pricey you get great tasting food and big portions, so it's definitely worth it!
G.

T. L.
Excellent place to have a great breakfast even for lunch. The omelette is very good! Usually very busy though
A. K.
Had to queue but always worth the wait. Yolk working hard to maintain business as usual in tough times
C. H.

Lovely independent cafe with great quality food and drinks. Can get extremely busy but worth the wait if you can't get a seat straight away.
O. H.
Really nice food, great staff and relaxed vibe. Well worth a visit.
N. (. S.
Good food, only problem is it's popularity; means you may have to wait to get a table. Food comes quickly when you are seated however.
P. J.

S. W.
Decent food, always very busy at weekends! Same owner as Finn's across the street
A. P.
Not tried a full cooked breakfast yet but the Poached Egg and Avocado was yum , coffee great and served at a drinkable temperature
O. F.
Yolk was great, very busy but good service, lots and lots of food for a very reasonable price and serve breakfast into the afternoon.. 10/10
S. C.
We did have to wait for a table but it was well worth it because the food was amazing. Outstanding quality and it tasted delicious.
S. D.
Gets a lot more credit than its due, probably one of the better brunches in reading but not anything to really impress and write home about. Student n middle class central and gets busy
V.
Great coffee at a smaller price than anywhere in town and the food is good too. Only a short walk from town with plenty of free for 2h parking around.
A. P.
Cafe Yolk definitely lives up to its reward of the best cafe in the South! Lovely staff and amazing food!! Would definitely reccomended this place!

T. W.
Nice place for Saturday brunch. :) Tip : order the smoothie or milkshake with your main (preferably anything from the 'legendary') :)
N. P.
A little expensive especially for the portion size (Veggie Yolk Sandwich). Too much red pesto in it too - dominated the flavour of the sandwich
B. A.
Had a lovely meal with family. Would recommend. Staff very attentive.
J. G.
