Reviews of Carluccio's
D. S. B.
It's a decent restaurant but pretty underwhelming for its prices. Friendly staff and Excellent quality starters first getting the burrata and calamari fritti. But our mains had come along and we was not too pleased. Their Sirloin steak tasted pretty bland and the potatoes were over done. What I was pretty fed up about was the drinks. I ordered what was called fresh orange juice for £3 and it tasted like a carton of euro shopper orange juice. I'd recommend someone to just get tap water if they wouldn't like an alcoholic beverage. Overall nice experience but not worth the money.
K. P.
Excellent food and wonderful service. Can't fault them in anyway.
Also one of the waiters had an arse you could bounce a nickel off which didn't hurt at all
M. S.
We have been to Carluccios a lot in the past, and really enjoyed it, last night was no exception. Lily our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious.
We will be visiting again. Thank you to Alex, Lily and the team.
P. O.
Lovely setting, service was friendly and efficent. Food was tasty. Had giant penne with courgette and plenty of bottarga and penne carbonara- both excellent. Leisurely lunch and not overly expensive.

I went to Carluccio’s Reading during lunch time last Saturday with my family and we have nothing more to say than what an amazing food and experience.
All the staff were really friendly and welcoming, the food was amazing. Andrea serve us during our visit, she’s very friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Carluccio’s Reading.
Thank you Andrea and Team.
We will definitely be back..
D. M.
Really good front of house service. Even though it's a chain. The food quality was good and it was value for money. Baby changing facilities and child friendly. With the ambiance, views and mellow lighting our little lad loved the stimulating environment. And not noisy even though you can see the kitchen it wasn't a clattering kitchen nightmare. Pay your tip in cash.
Will be back again after Christmas to explore the menu further xx
P. A.
The food was excellent. The Christmas specials very tasty.
Having a pleasant evening but it was spoilt at the end by the waiter noisily stacking chairs all around the room from about 9.30 ... made you feel that they wanted you out.
Also checked the bill to find that the special 2 and 3 course deals had not been taken into account. When questioned the immediate reply was 'oh yes sorry' .....
I. M.
Busy and vibrant, good menu, good food. Excellent service, staff were exemplary, attentive but not intrusive. We were asked if any of our party had any allergies, a member of our party did have and they made sure the dishes for that person were prepared in isolation. Great location. We had a three course meal with plenty to drink and it worked out at approximately £50 each which was more than reasonable. It was very busy when we arrived at 8 o'clock but we were promptly seated, our meal was served with just the right interval between courses and the two and a half hours we spent there was very enjoyable.
P. B.
Loved it. Food was tasty and quick in coming, clean environment, staff really friendly and solicitous. Loved it. Had no reservation, yet were treated just the same. A place to go on a cold day. And the hot chocolate made it homey. I recommend it
U.
First time at Carluccios, great experience, restaurant was spot on on cleaness, fantastic view sea front, waiter really professional and polite, so, service great, and food very yummy. Will definitelly raccomand it to everyone, I will go again next time. Thank you.... ;)
A. K.
Half of menu was not available
Service ok..ish , but have been here before and was very good so I assume there was shortage in products and staff.
But not being able to do a carbonara....??? due to shortage of products? cream? Bacon and egg? It just felt weird.
This specific branch has such a nice location and view , please do not let it go down...
N. C. D.
Beautiful atmosphere and food. Fell short on the service as the manager was grumpy as and didn't want to engage. Our waitress was lovely though. Will definately return.
J. C.
Great breakfast! Cooked well and tasted amazing. Friendly and efficient staff!
Also lovely a lovely Carluccios shop.......panettone, amaretto biscuits ❤
S. W.
Wonderful family meal. Christmas menu was just delicious and great value. Vanessa served us she was excellent, very attentive and welcoming. The Mince Pie Panna Cotta was so good.
L. B.
Average food - fairly tasty but with poor presentation. Service also very average, Under par in such a competitive section of the restaurant industry, from food to service the overwhelming feeling on leaving is that there is little care or love for what they do
I. a. (. G.
To sit down and have a relaxing meal as you look at the boats sail, it feels like you are in a Mediterranean city.
With its coffee shop located at the ground floor, and the restaurant on the first floor, it gives you the choice to admire the harbour from both heights.
The food on the other hand was just average.
D. M.
Excellent food. Diverse menu.
e. s.
The food was amazing, but I have to say the service was pretty poor. Rude staff, had to try for 20mins to get someone's attention for a drink.
A real shame as like I said the food was fabulous
J. K.
Easy dining. Good food.
Turned up without a booking but they were able to seat us (2 people) even though it was a Friday evening. Best book in advance!
Mix of clientele: families and couples mostly.
Recommended.

My first meal in Carluccio's for quite a few years. The last was breakfast. As soon as you enter the shop greets you as well as the staff who say hello. You are able to freely browse the shop before entering the restaurant. At times of seasonal change, the shop sometimes has discounts like black Friday which has up to 20% off on items!
We were warmly greeted when walking up the stairs to the restaurant and were swiftly seated. The waitress was incredibly nice, friendly and was very attentive (not the over excessive type however). We ordered our drinks, then starters and main with the side too. I ordered a smoothie and the waitress told me that we didn't have it as the seasonal menus were changing. So she did recommend a good number of alternatives which is great to see as I had to make decision quite quickly. I ended up getting a cranberry juice instead but said to my partner how great she was with recommending something else.
The focaccia arrived and was incredibly tasty, full of flavour but its a shame it was a little small. That's just me with a big appetite though! The mains were ready just in time a couple of minutes after finishing and both were extremely nice. Both were full of flavour and very filling. It would be nice to see some discounts available in Carluccios as i don't think i have ever seen discounts there.
The food isn't the cheapest but not the most expensive but it is really good and the service does make up for the price. However, I think they would be able to attract more customers and revenue through main meal discounts or off food bill like their competitors.
Overall, if you havent been to Carluccio's before, definitely go. You will not be disappointed. The food and service are great and we really enjoyed are lunch meal.
A. M.
Had a Portsmouth trip planned .
Bought a voucher off woucher for 2 course meal and drink.
The staff was super nice and polite.
And one of the best tasty, authentic italian meals we had .
C. S.
Great food, pasta dishes were excellent, the Burratta Anti Pasti was simply wonderful. The service was brilliant, very attentive, cheerful and customer focused. We thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful family get together in a fantastic restaurant setting. Thank you Carluccio's!
G. B.
Love the food here. Always consistent quality no matter what restaurant I visit. Very reasonably priced and great value for money. Service is great and staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.
L. H.
It’s now been 6 visits here with friends for breakfast good quality products well presented and very tasty, staff very efficient and friendly. The location is perfect as it’s right next to the marina and we go to the higher up terrace, you need to go inside to find it, which gives a better overall view of the marina. Staff are very efficient and friendly particularly Vanessa. The best breakfast is the traditional breakfast under the top right heading on the menu of Magnifica, because you get the breakfast which includes sausage, bacon and eggs with a Tea or Coffee and a large glass of fresh orange juice for a fair price.
K. O.
Really tasty food and lovely staff. Light and spacious restaurant with a good enough view over the harbour
H. H. L. I. o. W.
We had a family lunch, easy to get to from the Isle of Wight - delicious, really helpful staff, we love it here, highly recommend
T. C.
Always liked Italian food and for a chain this is pretty good fare.
Beef Ragu was excellent and Lemon Tart to follow delicious.
Bit pricey but Gunwharf location justifies it to some degree.
One disappointment was that staff are clearly
avoiding offering customers ' Fixed Price ' menu which I have happily used several times previously. ( And pity since it compares favourably
in price and quality to Cafe' Rouge across the terrace. )
Nice to get the choice...
Service fine and lovely glass for my JD and coke.. small things can make a difference. X
R. G.
Had a lovely lunch here today. Very pleasant atmosphere. Food better than an average Italian chain restaurant and not much more expensive.
L. B.
Amazing food, friendly and efficient staff. A lovely evening. Highly recommended.
A. d. Z.
We went here for some ice-cream and coffee and we were pleasantly surprised in both. We enjoyed the coffee so much we decided to purchase some ground coffee at the shop downstairs.
It's a big place though; nicely done but I didn't find it very cosy.
N. D. A.
A lot of the menu wasn't available so limited choice, what we had was good though. Took a long time to get the bill but we just relaxed and chatted as weren't in a hurry - thankfully!
D. M.
As always a lovely experience, delicious food and excellent service. Would highly recommend.
S. M.
Nice food. Good service. Staff lovely and friendly. Parking not far. Will go again.
R. P.
Nice setting on Harbour side. Good service but food very average. My pasta had been sitting around for a while under lights and not freshly prepared. Came up sticky and dry. Shame as tasted really nice. Could do better really as it's only pasta.
A. F.
Nice place to eat, beers can be a bit pricey, been there a few times throughout the year, but it is Gun Wharf, some we're absailing down the Spinaker tower today, good Italian food.
M. R.
Nic food. Good and friendly service. Pudding selection spot on.
Y. H.
**VERIFIED GLUTEN FREE FOR COELIAC** Nice location on the Quay just off the Gunwharf Quay complex. Has downstairs and upstairs outside seating complete with parasols. On entrance is the deli where you can buy most things Italian from preserved meats to San Peligrino. Decor is not so much a big chain but homely enough to have a smaller touch. Service was very good with the attentative and friendly waitress.
Food was prompt and arrived all at same time including the gluten free meal. Kids menu has several options, which includes gluten free as well.
Desserts were a bit pricey but the panacotta was very good. The kids had a decent scoop of ice cream as well.
Overall I would go again even if we did not have gluten requirements.

Visiting Carluccios is always lovely. A special thanks goes to Dennis, as he made me an item from the old menu (an espresso shot, a molten chocolate shot & a cream shot) to go with my delicious desert. I was treated warmly by all the staff members and cannot wait to visit again!
M. S.
Tamy the waitress was one of the best. So happy and nothing too much trouble. Very attentive even though very busy.
What a credit to carluccios she is.
The food was also very nice
L. K.
I've enjoyed our meal at Carluccio's, the service was great. Nice, family friendly restaurant.
L. G.
Staff were truly friendly and food was enjoyed by all our group. That said, in the seafood linguine, the mussels were either off or not far from it. But the other meals were lovely and my charterers fell in love with the brioche bread and butter pudding
J. N.
Nice place, good vibe but no Pizza! The food we had was great, especially the calamari which can often be disappointing but there was a party of 6 so a few pizzas to share would have been great. Never the less, we enjoyed what we had and the service was fine. Id go again
R. S.
Nice restaurant but very understaffed we weren't served until 30mins after being seated. The staff were lovely and rushing around all night so bless them for working so hard given the circumstances
P. R.
Carluccio's started brilliantly in Portsmouth and we loved eating there but after a few years it experienced a real dip; poor service, small portions, dirty toilets. We stopped going. However, it has picked up in the last year and is back on form. The service is friendly and attentive but not intrusive, portion sizes are generous. It is a much happier place. I would recommend the mushroom soup starter. It is rich and brothy with wild mushrooms gently sauteed in garlic and olive oil as a garnish. It's perfectly salty with a light touch of herb and oil to finish. Lush.
D. M.
Service excellent, food great. I would complain about the weather as we were outside and it was windy, but that was because whilst they were very welcoming of the dog they would not allow her through the restaurant, and I can hardly object to that!
k. t.
Nice setting. Staff were good but quite a few things were off the menu or out of stock. The food we ate was OK.
D. K.
Excellent food, excellent service and very busy too.
K. H.
Fantastic food, professional, friendly service and fabulous view of harbour from outside seating area
D. R.
Stopped for snack, starter lunch & was delighted with the food and service! And Sospiro house white a very drinkable bargain!!
T. O.
Last minute... Tam our waitress made such an effort to look after us.... attentive and just a lovely experience. Skelton menu due to the bank holiday but I'd go back again as they made every effort and pulled out all the stops!!! Thankyou guys you all dis amazing.. Trace
J. M.
Great place to sit and people-watch. Good Italian food, and Peroni on tap. They serve breakfast here too, lunch, dinner and light snacks. Good view of the spinnaker tower so you can watch people to abseiling etc
K. C.
We went on Monday evening, we sat outside as it was a nice evening. I had veganesca spaghetti which was amazing.my lady had lamb rump which she said was delicious. I can't rate this restaurant highly enough.the waitress was very nice and came to our table regularly to make sure we were ok.all in all it was a lovely time.
N. P.
Great location with views to the harbour. Brilliant, attentive and friendly staff. It was a warm and sunny day so we sat at the upper verandah. There are big umbrellas that provide shade too. We were there at lunch time but I guess it would be beatiful in the evening too.
L. P.
Lovely meal and great service. Can't ask for more!
J. T.
Really can't fault this place... consistently good. Haven't been since March but this place never disappoints. Just good Italian-style cooking at a decent price. Don't think I've ever had a bad meal eating here in the past five years. Glad it's stayed open and hope that remains the case. Staff and service are also great...feels like they care which makes such a difference to the experience. Definitely most consistently good restaurant at Gunwharf and I've eaten at them all!
G. B.
Lovely food. Great atmosphere. The gelato is to DIE for 💞 💞
R. F.
Popped in for lunch on a windy and rainy day.
Can't fault the service or food, both were excellent.
c. b.
Beautiful location on a lovely day. Could not have asked for better. The waitress who served us was delightful very friendly and thoughtful.
Food excellent! V good value.
Covid secure I felt very safe. Give this restaurant full marks will definitely go again.
Try the upstairs balcony to eat lovely views over the water.
R. M.
Really nice food, good options if you're gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian. Friendly too
B. S. (.
Great customer service the waitress was wonderful and so nice. The food was not bad, the minute steak was more done than I'd asked for.
L. G.
went here for lunch while at gunwharf quay great food very friendly staff
M. C.
Nit a good start far to noisy, asked to move a great improvement. Food was excellent, service was good and friendly. Expensive, but you get what you pay for
W. E.
Generally pretty nice but microwaved still frozen tiramisu
L.
Wonderful, freshly cooked breakfast with an Italian twist.... Super polite staff and an amazing little deli attached to the restaurant! Perfect!
S. D.
Nice food and staff very helpful. Very busy at wkends
D. T.
Nice place, good food, reasonable prices
M. Z.
Friendly staff+freshly made food+fair price =5/5
B. W.
Amazing food, nice atmosphere and not entirely unreasonable prices.
P. C.
We have not been for a while and we were really impressed, food was great and nice friendly service
D. P.
Good food and service. Had a few bits missing from Menu or would be five stars
G. M.
Good staff and the food was very good. Would definitely go back. Pasta I had was cooked to perfection. I had the pulled lamb neck ragu.
G. M.
Great food superb service from delightful team.
V. E.
Very lovely staff. Less crowded than the others restaurants at Gunwharf Quays. The cocktails and food are quite good but a little bit expensive for a chain.
G. H.
Just an excellent customer experience. Friendly staff and great service. Food was delicious and was served quickly.
T. H.
Really lovely atmosphere. Service next to none. Food truly delicious

Meal (for 4)booked early evening (Saturday night), We arrived to a very busy restaurant and was shown to our table. Drinks and food ordered, one Ricotta and Spinach Ravioli, Lasagne, Cod and Chicken Saltimbocca. Food arrived in short time the Ravioli looked very nice but for a main (adult) meal portion size was very small (7 pieces), same said of the cod meal. The Lasagne was good and according to my wife filling but my Chicken Saltimbocca this was a let down: dried ham over (barely warm) dry chicken with non- existent white wine sauce (dried up) hard potatoes underneath the chicken. Why don't I send it back (you ask) because one: I was starving and I could have eaten a dead dog, two: the rest of the family would have either waited for a replacement meal to arrive or gone ahead and finish their meals way before my "replacement" meal had arrived. I'm guessing that my meal was sat under a heat lamp for a while? On to dessert the wife's Panna Cotta was nice our x3 Giant Profiteroles were soft on top with a hard (to cut through) base and to call it Giant is very misleading the ones served to us 3 adults were very small, £114 spent we left hungry and very disappointed, will we return to be honest I'm not sure.
G. B.
Always great food and coffee, a great place to go for a light lunch.
N. C.
Lovely food, friendly staff.
Nicest, battered squid I've tasted in Southsea. Worth a visit.
Great kids menu.
D. P.
Just popped in on an off-chance on Valentine's night and were seated easily. The waitress was attentive and pleasant considering how busy they were.
The food was lovely and reminded us of our holidays to Italy. There was not a hint of a restaurant chain about Carluccios.
Lovely and well worth a visit, pretty cheap too!
P. R.
Beautiful food amazing staff and AC to boot and great cocktails but not particularly other than that defo worth a visit 🤟
J. Y.
Great place and great service but food was not so great.
J. B.
Another great visit, just coffee but really welcoming team.
M. l.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good service. Had to eat on the terrace sue to Covid restrictions but OK in the sun. Good food reasonable and an enjoyable experience.
S. S.
Lovely branch of Carluccio's, overlooking Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth. We had a really lovely young waitress, whose name I didn't get. All our food was delicious, calamari, noccerella olives, bruschetta, chicken, bacon and avocado salad and pasta carbonara. Comfy chairs and a great view of the Spinnaker tower and harbour. Very relaxing and enjoyable meal.
A. B.
Another great lunch today. Staff were friendly and helpful.
H. B.
Nice area, nice food and very speedy waitresses.
Music was a little bit loud where we sat but otherwise a throughly enjoyable evening!
K. E.
Went for breakfast. 5/5 for service, food and comfort.
J. D.
Lovely food, friendly staff and great value for money. Every member if staff said hello and goodbye to us and our kids which I always think is a sign of fab staff training and a positive staff force. Everyone who served us was smiley and helpful. Food was really yummy and great portion sizes. Definitely go here over the other chains at gunwharf. Thanks for the great meal.
S. R.
Nice atmosphere, friendly and welcoming service. Food is nice too. Upstairs on the outside terrace is really nice if the weather is good.
E. D.
Perfect Italian meal in the shadow of the Spinnaker. Highly recommended.
L. B.
18/10/2020. Our first visit back to our favourite restaurant since late February this year. Excellent service and excellent food. On the way out, meraguines and cookies from the Deli downstairs. See you again very soon.

I can not give this place enough stars. If I could only eat one thing for all time it would be their potatoes. They are to die for
A. P.
Food was good waiter service good management rude and arrogant - when asked about a discount that we was entitled to as staying in local hotel - very disappointed with attitude especially after spending just under £200!!
R.
So lovely to go back, first restaurant visited after lockdown and wasn't disappointed 😊. Food as always was delicious, service great and wine great. Never disappoints 😍
D. B.
Very nice , best view on terrace, we would go back 😀
J. S.
Lovely place, excellent food! Great staff!
D. B.
Nice place. Good food and drink. Roomy. Good views.
S. S.
What a lovely place we had a fantastic lunch and the staff were so friendly we loved it and would definitely recommend you.
T. M. o. F.
I have to say that when I was at my Uni Days, this place was a heaven. The breakfest menu is by far the best, and I do hope that Carluccio will have a vegan menu (I think they do but its been a long time since I visited). By far, if you want good Italian food, you should go to Carluccio in Portsmouth. They have really good pasta and their servings are enormous, which is a great thing :)
Staff are really hard-working there as well, and they're very chatty. I liked it and hope to return some day :)
J. W.
Fitted us in on a busy Friday evening. Good service and very nice food and wine
M.
Booked a meal for six based on location, and menu that included vegetarian and vegan options. Once there we had a nice welcome and served by very good waiting staff. The food was great with all of us remarking how good it was. It will certainly be a place to return to.
(The only minor issue was that we were placed on a round table with bench and two chairs. It was bit of a squeeze to get four tall people on the semi circular bench, the two on the separate chairs were ok).
J. W.
Dispite being particularly busy this evening (Christmas party time) I found the staff to be very welcoming and attentive. My food arrived quickly, was well presented and tasted great. The Veganesse was very good.
I'd come back again.
S. J.
Friendly, good service, nice food. Nice view if you get a window seat.
J. D. S.
Went for breakfast with the family. Dead quiet because of its location. I had from the gluten free menu the Eggs Florentine and it was the best breakfast I have ever had so I have to complement Carluccio's Portsmouth chief. The rest of the family had their breakfasts cooked to perfection too and we found the service very friendly.
R. W.
Excellent food and service.
Very nice and spacious restaurant.
An enjoyable experience.
Recommend the Sea Bass 👏👏👏
J. D.
We stopped off for coffee and cake. Thought Carluccio's was a restaurant only but they have a cafe style menu with drinks and snacks too!
D. H.
Very helpful staff, ppe observed the food of high standard - I had a nicoise salad, the tuna was fresh, I asked them to remove potatoes and croutons which they did those being 2 items which appear on british menus as opposed to the french - but very filling and tasty. They are child friendly too with high chairs and facilities to bring prams up. Most pleasant - a return visit in the books
R. W.
An amazing venue, the setting is superb, great views, good service, good food and we'll priced. Can't fault it
Go there for yaself
D. W.
Despite it being a windy day we chose to sit outside, although we were the only people on the terrace we had the view of the stunning seafront and boats and enjoyed a beautiful meal. Service was brilliant and recommendations from the friendly staff went down a treat. Definitely go again when in the area. Many thanks.
G. P.
Wonderful location overlooking the harbour, went on a sunny Saturday afternoon with no booking and was seated straight away out on the terrace. As a regular to other Carluccios I know what I am getting, and this location didn’t disappoint in the slightest. Well cooked food with great flavour, staff very attentive and overall felt very looked after! Thanks very much, will come again when back in the area!!
p. s.
Wow... wow.... wow!! Absolutely loved it and will be going back real soon. Great place, lovely staff and amazing view from the outside seating area. One of Gunwharfs little gems.
s. c.
Brilliant staff and very nice food
T. J.
Excellent service! We went for brunch on Fathers' Day - 8 people who were very indecisive. Our waitress, Emily, was wonderfully patient & efficient, and she managed to keep track of all of our changes!!
The food and location were great too, but it was the service that stood out. Well done Emily, and thank you :-)
E. H.
Lovely food, but the plate was cold which meant my food got cold quickly.
j. E.
Good food, friendly staff, nice and busy.
J. B.
Lovely meal, very friendly and attentive staff. Good hygiene, I saw tables being disinfected and menus. Will definitely visit again.
M.
Excellent service and food was great, only disappointed in the fact that there was not more food on the plate. Highly recommend and will no doubt be returning.
A. G.
Always top quality and service with the added bonus of value for money 11 / 10 🥰
B. P.
Saturday night, Gunwharf quays, Portsmouth and we where given a lovely welcome and good table despite not having a reservation. Service friendly and fast. Food perfect, delicious. Very fairly priced. Tiramisu was perfect. Lovely experience. Thank you.😍
R. T.
Outstanding meal. Considering how busy they were, standards did not drop. The cabonara is simply delicious, made the authentic way.
The wine my husband chose was excellent and our desserts were really good too.
I would recommend eating here, if you like good traditional Italian food, then this will not disappoint.
D. C.
Great breakfast. Great coffee. Great service.
C. Z.
Excellent food like always. Lovely staff. A great place to eat and enjoy with your friends and family.
M. P.
Gunwharf Carluccios is definitive. They have a very low staff turnover the food is excellent and it's always bustling. Love it
A. F.
Full English breakfast with a twist. Good service, well presented and easy atmosphere.
M. H.
Very pleasant meal, staff were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The restaurant has a great view of the boats and has very good interior decor. The sharing platter was almost perfect (should be served with their famous foccia bread) considering its price however there house red is incredible considering its £17 price tag. For main the swordfish was perfect however the sides included should be better, potatoes in garlic would have accompanied it well. Overall Carluccio's is much better than the other chain italians however because of the price it will miss the 5 stars.
D. D.
Delightful breakfast served to us with excellence. Enjoyed the beautifully cooked food and having a pot of tea with cup & saucer. It was a nice relaxed atmosphere to chat quietly. Great for a treat.
A. M.
We popped in after a few hours shopping, we were made to feel welcome by the staff who were very polite and attentive. The food was delicious, hot and prompt. Overall it was a nice experience. Will definitely go again when down in the Quays.
L. H.
Loved it, food excellent and the staff was amazing, very accommodating and super at their jobs.
A. S.
Nice environment and very flexible staff creating a special Pasta not in menu. Tasty and good value.
P. H.
Good coffee good food nice ambience
S. R.
Never had a bad meal at any Carluccios. This is a lovely restaurant, have eaten here twice in a week. Slightly distracted waiter this evening resulted in 2 large glasses of wine instead of 2 small but food was excellent.
L. H.
The service was fast and the waiters were very friendly. One of our lasagna's came out burnt and when asked if the food was ok we jokingly advised it was burnt and the waitress was fantastic. She apologized for not noticing, had a laugh with us, took the plate back without any fuss at all and returned promptly with a piping hot one which wasn't burnt.
Although we received a burnt meal I'm giving 5 stars as it's a given not every restaurant can get it right 100% of the time, but how they deal with it when things do go wrong really shows what a tight ship they run. Very impressed overall!
P. H.
Always great food and pleasant staff
j.
My meal was excellent but my wife's had not had the meat cooked through properly. It was replaced with a fresh properly prepared meal swiftly but no offer of compensation was made which surprised me as the prices are not cheap and the name commands respect in Italian food circles.
P. E.
A very nice restaurant, friendly staff and a good selection of food and drink.
The quality was equal to their branch in Shepherd's Bush, and the prices were also aligned. This gives a great feeling of consistency, that you can go to a restaurant in Portsmouth or in London and have a comparable experience in atmosphere, flavour and price. Carluccio's is definitely a restaurant that I will seek out on my travels and use again
D. S.
Food was mediocre, service was abismal! Drinks very expensive and took so long to come each time. Service charge added to bill?? Even though 2 out of 3 of us had set menu the bill was still almost £100 when the set menu was £15 each. Wouldn't recommend or use again.
P. B.
Excellent service from our waitress. Food was tasty and well presented, not the best quality, but enjoyed non the less.
J.
I would just like to say a massive thank you, to the staff here and especially Tammi our waitress..
We had an amazing time with impeccable service and perfectly cooked food..
Will definitely be recommending Carluccio's Portsmouth to my friends and family and of course to you, the Googlers!
Thanks again guys and look forward to my next visit!
J. W.
Amazing food, service - friendly and great harbour views
M. J.
Absolutely brilliant service. Went there after Loch Fyne (Portsmouth) was unable to manage our dietary requirements. The staff were attentive and worked with us to make the menu work. Absolutely brilliant experience.
D. B.
A delicious lunch with a fabulous server.
J. H. (.
The restaurant is at a nice location with, if you're lucky, a view of the Spinnaker Tower. The service was really friendly and the food was good.
J. S.
Staff were wonderful. Atmosphere relaxed. Meal was the best 👌loved it
J. S.
We visited here as a couple on a 'date night' which was very enjoyable, but mainly for the company!
We booked early in a Friday night as the place was extremely busy later on - It's certainly very popular.
We sat by the window on a really hot day but wish we had been given the option to sit outside as there were loads of tables free, but the waitor quickly ushered us to our seats and scuttled away.
We had a veggie sharer to start which was nice then I had sea bass which was average in terms of flavour and presentation. The waitor was keen to move us through each course quickly and needed to be reminded of our drinks order, but he was certainly pleasant and accommodating.
Overall, the restaurant is safe, fairly average Italian food and good for groups. I would think again before returning for a romantic meal though as there are so many great local options in Southsea.
G. S.
Fantastic service as always, great staff and good food. Our waiter was from Barcelona and had that knowledge of when to attend to you and when to leave you to chat. Use this place a lot because of the outstanding service. Well done to all.
J. F.
Excellent food, friendly staff. Not cheap, but not too expensive either. A star knocked off for the long wait for food, but this is to be expected at peak times in any establishment.
V. B.
Nice service, good food.
S. C.
Shared a meal here with friends. Really friendly staff, good Italian themed menu and smart clean facilities. Really nice food and swift service. A good dining experience.
N. D.
Great food and great customer service
R. B.
Just like to say once again excellent meal today I had linguine seafood wife had crab fettuccine and both were very tasty . No pudding for me (just more red wine ) christine had bitter chocolate dessert all round good value especially if u use there 1£ second main meal deal ....
T. I.
Great food, great outdoor seating area - away from the busy part of Gunwarf keys
A. R.
The staff were absolutely amazing, they took care of the whole table and the food was excellent. It was my first time going to Thai restaurant and wouldn't hesitate to recommend
J. B.
Location incredible, overlooking harbour and Spinaker Tower. Lovely welcome and considerate staff about food allergies. We had such a nice visit, the food fabulous and location perfect. Highly recommended.
C. C.
Went today Sunday lunch.
Very nice place with vibrant atmosphere.
Frendly service and great food.
Will definitely come back soon.
Thanks Carluccio's Portsmouth
M. B.
Food was great and service by Vanessa was brilliant.
T. S.
Had an excellent meal with friends in Carluccios, GunWharf. It's a lovely location close to the waterside. Plus have a great selection and goody bags for the young members of our group. Definitely a great place to eat and also enjoy the views
s. e.
Amazing, really tasty cuisine! Cannot wait for our next visit!
M. z.
Nice food, great atmosphere
a. s.
Great meal, friendly, professional staff
L. J.
Love carluccio's. Some of the best Italian food from a chain and the staff are always great.
Food comes quickly, hot and most importantly always tasty! Good selection of drink to accompany your meal too.
The restaurant in gunwharf also has great views of the harbour and spinnaker tower which is lovely during the winter months with the lights reflecting on the water and the summer months with amazing sunsets.
J. S.
Food was amazing, and staff were fabulous. Such good service and very friendly, couldn't of asked for a better evening.
S. L.
Not the first time I've eaten here and won't be the last. Staff very friendly and helpful, but fot the first time I was really disappointed with my meal. The tuna in my salad was definitely from a tin, what a let down.
M. M.
Visited yesterday as a family of 4. Good COVID secure measures. Great service, fresh food full of flavour. Really enjoyed it!
A. S.
Good food and service.
T. B.
Amazing!!!!!! Staff food price love it love it love it
S. T.
Love this place, staff are so friendly, the waiter Rad is lovely and remembers me even though I come about once or twice a year from Nottingham. Love sitting on the balcony. My favourite drink is the Prosecco Sara and their Tiramisu is the best I have EVER tasted. Will be back soon I hope ☺ x
B. S.
Had the last evening of the free bottle of wine with two main courses. So glad we did. .Delicious flavours. Never going back to set menu again
T. D.
Great Food, very well attended by the waiters and manager! Good location, outside eating area up top, please give it a go, if you like Italian food, you'll love this place.
F. G.
We had always love Carluccio's. But we want to say thank you to the staff that was on duty yesterday. We were having such a horrible day, but the staff there was so kind, lovely to us, and cheered us up. Officially our favourite place in Portsmouth now.
S. C.
Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Great food only surpassed by the fantastic and friendly staff. Will be back next time we're in Portsmouth.
L. B.
Food is always very good, but service has let it down on two occasions, one where the waiter forgot to put our order through to the kitchen resulting in over an hour's wait, and another where the waiter had to come back to the the table twice to inform us that they'd run out of what we'd ordered.
k. s.
Staff were very nice and friendly. Food was just something else. The best itilian I have tasted. Nice querky little shop also we brought home some amazing biscuits. Could of spent a fortune there.
L. W.
Fantastic! Staff all very polite happy and helpful. Great food and atmosphere. Thank you highly recommend.
I. B.
We've been coming here for lunch every few months for the past 3 years. It's our 'go-to' eaterie in Gunwharf Quays as the food is always fresh and delicious and the restaurant has a great ambience. We usually sit on the outdoor terrace or by the large windows overlooking the harbour and our server almost every time is Raul. Raul always recognises us and seems to go out of his way to make us feel welcome and well-looked after. He has a great sense of humour and is exactly what every server should aspire to. He is as much a factor in our returning as the location and the menu. Thank you Raul and see you again soon.
K. J. H.
Absolutely wonderful. Excellent food and service.
R. W.
Had three courses with wine for less than 25 pounds a head. Good portion size and quality. Would recommend a visit if your in Portsmouth.
S. B.
Very good service food was very nice ,staff were very pleasant and helpful
n. s.
This place is great. The staff are very nice and the food is delicious. I had my birthday here one year and they did a great job of hosting the extra people.
B. M.
This restaurant is very well situated with a wonderful view of the Spinnaker Tower. The menu is varied with good choices. Great atmosphere and helpful staff.
T. E.
Fantastic service, very attentive. Food was good quality.
B. G.
Really lovely service and fantastic food.
R. H.
Deliscioso. The menu is good but a bit limited and dinner here probably isn't going to be cheap. That said, there are some strong dishes and the ingredients are always great. The Gradioso meat plank is a great way to share a starter. The best Italian food in Gunwharf.
A. S. (.
Very friendly staff, very good about the children being a bit over excited and was really acommodating. Food was quick and tasted great. No problems at all here.
L. N.
I wanted to really like this restuarant as the service was top notch but unfortunately the meals were not that impressive. Lamb steak with gremolata was served with peppers from the jar dripping with oil and plain salad.
both those sides just felt like supermarket pre made items you could slap onto a plate. For the price I would expect fresh vegetables, like green beans, sweet potato mash, roasted carrots etc. Lastly if you advertise with gremolata, you better be serving a vibrant zesty sauce with finely cut lemon zest and fresh parsley. Instead I got a half a whole grilled lemon and grilled grey flavourless parsley on top of my lamb. The ingredients for gremolata are on the plate, but alas they were not combined into an actual sauce.
M. N.
Brilliant food! Excellent service and lovely sun terrace!
J. W.
Excellent service and beautiful food. Particularly pleased with the allergy advise and consideration for a member of our party. Great experience.
K. H.
Gorgeous views, nice breakfast options and friendly staff.
P. M.
Lovely place. Quiet in the day I went and great service and food. The waitress noted that we were in our zone and left us in peace without the annoying interruptions to ask about service... Getting back for sure
J. C. F.
Would have been 5 stars but the plates were cold! Sorry guys, cardinal sin here, you DO NOT serve hot food on cold plates!
Otherwise, good.
S. Z.
Great food, also vegan options, friendly and welcoming staff.
N. B.
Excellent gluten free options
M. C.
Perfect place for a get together, the carrot cake is to die for!
L. M.
The best Carluccios I've ever been too, vs 2 london chains. NYE and the staff acted like any other night, so friendly and fast service! Constantly checking everything is okay but giving you space when needed. Great vibes from staff! Perfect food, as usual! And an idea location too
H. D.
Good service, lovely food, friendly staff, great location
M. G.
Lovely food, friendly staff, great service. Will definitely be going here again
A. M.
Fabulous Italian cuisine, excellent and friendly service. Very pleasing vistas, through floor to ceiling windows, of Gun Wharf marina. 6 stars!! 🥂💖
H. L.
Lovely setting, plenty to see as your dining. Attentive staff friendly staff. Covid protocol s in place, no worries.
B. D.
A chain. Based upon the name of a celebrity chef.
Does he turn in his grave?
At least the quality is consistent, the chain can cross-subsidise and keep going!
We will visit this and other branches again I'm sure - at least we know what we'll be getting!
C. I.
Nice but not worth the money.
A. M.
Good food, attentive staff, clean and follows covid guidelines. Safe place to eat.
T.

It's nice. I like the al fresco bit when it's not too windy. Nice food, attentive service. Can be a bit busy with lots of functions and parties
D. M.
Good and very friendly service, definitely the best part of the experience. Food was ok but nothing special. Wine was reasonable but not particularly good value.
A. M.
I always come here seeking the best italian traditional products and I do always find them here. Thank you Carluccio's for bringing a little piece of Italia in our lifes! Delicious food, very clean and very friendly staff!
A. W.
Whilst the setting and the staff are nice the food is pedestrian and lacks depth of flavour in the dishes we tried. Finished lunch feeling disappointed.
T. S.
Great restaurant. Went in for breakfast and was not disappointed. Table round the corner has views of the harbour. On a warm day you can eat outside.
J. D.
As always great food , ambience, unrushed and fabulous service. Courgette flowers only problems not enough. They were amazing.
V. W.
Disappointing meal in the evening seemed to have untrained staff serving. Shame after having a excellent lunch the week before with excellent staff. I don't our group will visit again

We only stopped for coffee.
p. w.
Visited while in Gunwharf Quays shopping centre. Foods good quality but fairly expensive. I guess they need the money to pay for Carluccio's embalming!
P. W. K.
Pricing structure confusing and they offer you things like truffle oil and then charge extra for it. They do not tell you in advance it is extra.
K. R.

K. Y.
Really tasty food (the steak was perfectly cooked) and our server was lovely.
c. m.
Had the breakfast and it was very nice. If a big man was hungry the breakfast would seem small, but enough.
O. S.
The food seems a little variable - I prefer other Carluccio's. The staff seem to be 'local' - which is probably not what you want for an authentic Italian restaurant.
B. G.
Very personable and helpful staff serving simple but well cooked food
M. P.
Food was good, the service was excellent and I look forward to going back.
M. S.
Have visited Carluccio’s many times and I just love the atmosphere and the food is delicious. Will be back again soon
