The eatery is much improved now in ambience, comfortable seating and helpful and efficient staffs. The food and drinks are of great quality except that they’ll never master the art of cooking roast potatoes! They’re tough and undercooked and not done properly. However, overall a great place. 👍

Went there for a late evening carvery on a Tuesday, still plenty of food left even after we left. A really great price for what you get, the food was absolutely delicious! We have visited before but food was not so good, however this time the food was so good we wished we had room for more! The only thing we picked up on was that the slices of meat you are given are quite small considering they usually have a whole slab of each left at the end of the night, then again everything you get is definitely worth the price you pay (and more) so still give 5 stars. Definitely visiting again, thank you!

What a homely place to be, my girlfriends family and I went to have a Sunday carvery here on 13/2/22 at 5:30 pm and it was amazing.
We were served by Jess who was lovely, she was very inviting, she was very friendly - providing the best customer service. She asked us for our drinks order, explained everything to us and came often to check on us and clear our table. Considering it was my girlfriends birthday she brought us out some ice cream and custard free of charge to go along with the Birthday cake we brought (we were allowed to light the candles too).
The Carvery experience was a great and memorable one here at Caversham Bridge, Reading. We'd definitely return. 5/5 stars! We'd like to give an extra big thank you to Jess for making my girlfriends evening special!

Food was great and definitely staff training needs to get more improvement. It was my 1st visit at this branch. The staff needs to have more smiley, warm welcoming, friendly but in a professional manner, very attentive and checking back with customers at their table, keeping an eye while they do their job, and to bring the bill on time, to ask guests if they have more enquiries. The sparks was missing in each staff's attitude who served us from desk and at our table. In general we were so happy with our food and drink. 😊

*Remember to register your car reg on system just inside door when you arrive*
We’ve been here a few times now and wouldn’t say it’s anything remarkable. The staff are nice enough but it’s not always consistent.
The food is of standard Toby quality but I’ve found a few times they’ve run out of things like gravy. They had 50% off mains again last week and didn’t seem to anticipate the rush so had ran out of Yorkshires, almost ran out of gammon and beef as well. It’s a nice place to eat with nice food, just don’t seem to be very organised there.

A good menu selection including some vegetarian and vegan which were listed separately making it easier to view. We all had roast - meat-free carvery, meat carvery and Quorn sausages in a giant Yorkshire pud with mash and gravy.
The service at the carvery was speedy and the two servers did well to to get the queue down but the other diners seemed to take a while loading their veg. The veg was frequently topped up though so hot roast pots etc but sadly the mash was cold. We were all happy with our food though and didn't go back for seconds. We were too full to try any desserts.

Obviously been a very busy day for you guys and understaffed due to how busy it is, however still a great visit as usual. Slightly longer wait than usual, but still fantastic customer service and great food as always. Great to see the staff smiling and laughing despite clearly not having a great day!
J. B.
First time using this toby good food, hot and as always plenty of it. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was great. I would definitely use it again.
M. L.
The food was good , but we had a long wait , mainly because it was Father's Day and it seemed as though the home deliveries took priority, and the Toby at Lower Earley was closed for refurbishment. The waitress was excellent.
C. L.
my friend & I went into have a carvey but there was not many roast potatoes left was, told they would be available in 3 minutes but we had Finnished our dinner with no roast potatoes but my dinner was nice otherwise
M. A. B.
Sooo Good!! Must have! Very simple for a breakfast meal but a great deal for the quantity yo can receive. All you can eat
M. J.
Lovely carvery, meats cooked perfectly.
A very friendly older team member who was excellent at her job.
g. j.
A very enjoyable carvery, excellent meat selection and well cooked. First rate staff quick and efficient.
B. E.
First time to experience the buffet breakfast. It had everything you needed for a hearty start to the day. Although I did not know the protocol it was soon explained by the helpful staff. Unsure as to why you would need Yorkshire pudding with a breakfast but most of the diners around me had them on their plates so maybe thats a new addition to the modern fry up. I marked it down a star as I tried to pay via the app as it is advertised and it was very long winded, which caused me to give up and pay at the bar.
M. G.
Good polite helpful service . A really great Roast too. I haven't been to a Carvery for years despite living really close to one at home. Plenty of meat and the vegetables were really hot . I was very pleased.
R. B.
The service was OK.
Carvery was OK vegetables and roast potatoes were great. I chose the Beef.big mistake; it was like chewing rubber.
I took it home and gave it to my dogs...
I will have to stick with the turkey if there is a next time.
H. W.
Myself and my daughter went for dinner tonight and a young man served us. He was the most polite person I have ever been served by. We couldn’t quite believe the service he gave considering how busy he was and very happy at all times.
C. S.
Great food and good service!
Z. W.
No waiting around. Showed to a table straight away. Staff had some difficult customers in and dealt with it all very professionally. Lovely food, especially the potatoes!
C. A. J.
We always enjoy a meal at Toby Carvery Caversham Bridge. The service is always spot on and the food never a complaint from our table.
Great place for families.
S. B.
Meat was delicious. Lovely restaurant! The staff are absolutely first class. So polite and helpful
N. L.
Turned up without a reservation and luckily got a table. There was only one waitress serving all tables in one large area so she was really busy so service was a bit slower than usual but not a problem.
Food was delicious as always and they had gammon which is one of my favourite roasts so it was brilliant! Now because of COVID the chef has to put everything onto your plate and you're not allowed to help yourself to veg and gravy but it wasn't a problem and the chef was lovely and generous with portion sizes which is always a bonus!
The sundae we wanted was out of stock so got the honeycomb sundae instead but it was delicious so it wasn't a hardship at all.
I'm a returning customer and will continue to be as food is always delicious and staff are always hard working and friendly!
M. S.
Had a large Calvary.
Lovely meat, lots of veg,gd gravy and sauces.
Good outside space
Bonus of river for a walk it off walk.😄
C. C.
Went around 5.30pm on Saturday night and carpark was nearly full but plenty of tables available. Food was okay, the beef wasnt fatty but it was a little dry, the vegetables were a bit overcooked and gravy was a little gloppy.
Service was friendly and reasonably prompt but the tables weren't very clean and cutlery missing.
Price and nice service balances the slightly lower than normal quality of food for a Toby's Carvery.
Overall a decent enough experience for a return visit.
C. W.
I had the carvery, it was excellent! The staff were friendly and attentive, nice place, and good value for money!
H. O.
We had an excellent carvery there yesterday and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.Their Yorkshire pudding was the biggest I have ever eaten.
D. C.
As usual, a pleasure of a place to visit for a meal.
Never had a problem with this specific carvery, it's always clean with friendly staff and definitely a winner for a proper roast dinner!
R. C.
Lovely place to eat. Staff were great.
f. g.
Toby is a really good place to go eat, I had breakfast but there are other food you can try.. pricewise is good
D. G.
Had a lovely birthday lunch, the selection is excellent and I will certainly be back soon, thanks for the service as well
M. C.
Staff were very helpful & polite and the Lavazza coffee was good
G. W.
Good service good hot food at a great price.
C. L.
Wonderful place to eat. It was a last minute booking to thank a family member.
Our seating was brilliant. Plenty of room to stretch out when relaxing.
Staff were exceptional and the food was out of this world and portions were definitely generous. Good because I was ravenous.
We have been plenty of times and have never been disappointed.
Beware to make sure you register your car, if driving. In the foyer. As you will be fined if not
Thank you Toby. See you again soon.
F. S.
I asked for a table close to the food for my dad who is 89 and we got a really good table just as we asked.
g. j.
Excellent Carvery delivered by professional staff. A very enjoyable night had by all
S. C.
What can I say. The breakfasts are fantastic. The staff since reopening have been great. Highly recommend the Breakfast to start your day.
Will most definitely be back
Still as good.
N. H.
All you can eat breakfast with tea/coffee, fantastic value great quality. The Caversham Bridge Toby is by far the best one I've visited. Love the inclusion of the breakfast yorkshire pud but do miss the potato rosti.
P. C.
It's OK I only had a drink. With a work colleague, but they stopped serving drinks at 21:45 and asked us to leave at 22:00 it seemed a bit early for the pub part to close
I. H.
Adequate buffet full English breakfast (No black pudding)
Better than similar setups elsewhere
7 pound odd.
j. g.
Good quality food. Very quick and fast moving queues.
K. G.
Breakfast was nice. toast area not very well set up lots of things missing. Service good .
R. S.
Good friendly service, all you can eat breakfast .. good price, coffee/tea extra but still a bargain.
K. R.
Very nice friendly place... food was very tasty just one gripe, the meat was cut wafer thin and I would have liked it cut thicker so it could be tasted instead of just melting in the mouth... staff were very friendly and made me feel very welcome
N. P.
I usually float between either between the Toby or the World Turned Upside down in Whitley. Out of the two the Toby wins on food quality the veg seems to taste freshier and in general the selection of seasonal veg is better . On the other hand I find the staff alot more friendlier at the World Turned Upside Down and the meat portions bigger. The Toby staff in general always seem a little misrable
S. F.
We were very dissapointed with our meal it was cold, brussels were dried up and not nice ,we felt we were eating lunchtime left overs potatoes and meat were nice ,we had a lovely waitress she was realy nice so we decided not to complain this time ,
B. M.
Meal and service were very good.
Marked down as some of the food was missing with some sauces.
Overall, it was enjoyable
I. R.
Fantastic roast, excellent service staff and a good buzz overall.
M. B. P.
Toby is my favourite place to eat. I just wish they would do rice and peas!
L. W. F.
We had breakfast here and the service was very good. The food we got was not fine dining or anything but for the price we paid it's great. The people working there are friendly and very helpful. Would recommend it to anybody who just wants a load of food for breakfast.
E. S.
Lovely young waiter university student. Great Yorkshire pudding
L.
Was very busy for breakfast and they seemed understaffed, we were halfway through our meal before our drinks arrived even though they had been ordered as soon as we sat down, they also forgot the milk to go with the teas. They forgot the scrambled eggs we ordered they arrived after everyone had finished eating and only because we reminded the waitress and were very watery when they did arrive.
The staff were polite when you could find one to speak to. The rest of the food was nice.
B. G.
Everything was great food drinks and service was fantastic
S. M.
Lovely hearty Sunday roast and very safe place to eat out as Covid19 complient. Service was very good.
Definitely worth a visit. 👍👏👏
P.
Lovely food. Gentleman was generous to give good portions of meat and gravy. Great hospitality. Even the manager or probably was the owner was kind to take our booking in advance which unfortunately we had to cancel though. Will visit again. Thanks
S. C.
Had breakfast There very nice place friendly staff too
r. M.
U get seated and get as much as you can eat. Pay ate the end. No scrambled eggs.

Always good service and food - Megan was great!
N. A.
Nice ambience, friendly staff, generous portions and very yummy
B. W.
Very very good. Flat entrance off flat car park, don't forget to record your car reg as you enter. Some soft drinks are bottomless.
Toilets up many stairs.
A. R.
A clean and organised Toby carvery, great value breakfast saves messing up the kitchen
T. W.
Breakfast is nice but the hash browns are either dry or soggy and don't have a nice taste
M. L. M.
Amazing food, quick service! Nice, warm and cosy! Shame the toilets were a sponsored walk.....! Would definitely visit again!
M. A.
Reliable as ever for a decent fill-up. If you're in the neighborhood for Reading Festival then this Toby Carvery is very nearby and does a great breakfast selection as well as the ever-popular carvery lunch. Not haute cuisine but good tasty nosh.
M. 3.
Fantastic meal and staff; particularly Becky who was working on 28th November. The carvery was delicious, the cookie dough sundae was addictive and I was really impressed with the glass of Malbec too.
L.
Excellent carvery, great pint of Guinness all for a great price, we will be back soon. 👍
S. D.
Had an amazing experience at Toby Carvery Caversham today. Was blown away by our waiter, Jake.
He was so friendly, nothing was too much trouble and made our experience so much better for him just being there.
Thank you so much Jake for looking after us, such a great waiter.
A. R.
Good food at a good price for the breakfast .
You can eat as much as you can good range of goodies on offer. Sausages, bacon, mushrooms, beans, hash browns, and even Yorkshire pudding with gravy to name but a few well worth it for under a fiver !
K. H.
So happy to self serve is back open again, and the addition of paying on the app has been really great. Our server was really lovely and the food was great quality as always. We'll be back.
j. j.
Is ok for what it is, help your self breakfast. Food was good service could have been better. Would still go again. Have only been for breakfast and not there cavery so can not comment on that.
G. H.
Lovely quiet breakfast. Nice staff who are happy to help. Good fresh breakfast.
Definitely recommend this place
J. M.
Great carvery. Quality food and plenty of freshly cooked vegetables. Friendly service & good atmosphere. Good price too. We go there often.
R. L.
Very much like this place and love the food. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. There are always some exemptions ..After lockdown they provide " table service " ( according to them they follow the government guidelines.....) so not allowed to touch my plate.. a waitress will touch every single plate. So that means exactly one more person touches it than it should... not nice seeing the palm of her hand touches my food... silly rule...
S. K.
Breakfast with friends & families (11).
A great way to celebrate my birthday.
Great service and excellent selection of food.
S. S.
Very reasonable price. Lots of Vegetables are plentiful, varied and well cooked . The sandwiches are tremendously good value and tasty. Service is friendly and efficient.
R. H.
Great visit, easy to book, value for money
L. C.
Great carvery, staff were friendly.
j. H.
One of the better Toby's around for decent food.
B. K.
Can't go wrong with a Toby carvery and this restaurant upholds the same quality I have found in every Toby carvery
D. C.
A very good carvery breakfast with friendly staff
M. P.
Good people, good food! Free parking!!!! Value for money.
r. s.
Great value for money, lunchtime service very friendly staff👍
L. S.
Been here a few time and not really rated it but went today and itc
was quite nice.It was a bit short staffed bit not to bad atall.
P. H.
From the start of mine and my wife's visit we were made to feel very welcome. Our server Denena was absolutely amazing and so friendly and made our visit just that extra bit more fun, it was so nice from the start to finish with minimal interruptions and struct the balance perfectly. She is definately as asset to the team at the venue. Will definatley be returning again.
E. C.
Toby at it's best! We had a very nice meal indeed. It was well cooked and nicely presented. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
p. r.
Good food 5 star for that. Customer service was not a good standard on this visit. Food was good value for money but drinks was way to expensive bring ur own drink.
J. S.
Excellent customer service
Food fresh and the carvery deck very clean
Nice chef
P. W.
Quick service.. food was warm not hot
B. N.
Had boxing day lunch there fabulous staff friendly and helpful turkey nice and moist couldn't fault it
G. P.
Carvery was to the usual standard and service was good but a little slow.
L. W.
Lovely helpful and friendly staff coping with the difficult situation we all find ourselves in with humour. The food was lovely and really hit the spot as haven't had a roast for ages (well at least a fortnight) Very good value!!
J. W.
Always good value and superb desserts.
K. L.
I love Toby Carvery in Caversham with a good selection of meats and serve yourself to vegetables sauces and gravies. As I am on their mailing list I get a birthday voucher to spend on food which is very welcome.
C. E.
We went for brunch. The new covid routine was explained to us.
We went up to the food servery. The chef asked, what items would we like and served it all on our plate. No cross contamination of service utensils. The waitress brought us, our drinks and refills. We were at a good social distance from other diners. A good catch up,over a Toby breakfast.
D. C.
Staff are always welcoming and friendly and food is awesome and hot
K. B.
Used to love Toby Carvery. It's not their fault I didn't enjoy my latest visit. The controls in place have reduced the service speed, amount of food you can have and the joy of good food.
F. W.
After a long day at work exactly what I needed! I can't complain about the food atall! Although I was about upset there was no parsnips, red cabbage or suede as those are my favourite things! Other than that absolutely lovely
B. L.
Food is always lovely as well as staff but one lady in particular was so friendly, helpful and kind - Denine (New Yorker'87) my son and I had A* service such a wonderful lady! Thank you, the food is delicious and the company (our Denine) even better! ❤
c. h.
You certainly get your money's worth here nicely cooked food friendly staff and you can even go up for 2nds or thirds if you can lol I would really recommend this place to anyone it certainly made my stay that much better
I. “. H.
Lots of food to choose from, money well spent.
a. b.
My daughter and I enjoyed a lovely meal, yesterday evening, can't fault the food or the staff apart from the male carving the meat, who was stony faced and offhand. Customer service training urgently needed.!
D. P.
Good hearty food at reasonable prices. The wait staff were not wearing masks when I visited in December 2021
M. G.
I got caught to drop my group going to the music concert, decided to buy some food as a way of an apology
I asked if I could park there for 45 minutes, i was told no problem,
Very nice staff and manager too,
Excellent food,
No faults at all,
Signed the Irish driver with the green coach
C. N.
Always a pleasant experience, big breakfast with coffee without breaking the bank. Nice atmosphere too.
R. H.
This Toby has been going for a long time and it looks like it, very tired and in need of a refurb. The food was just OK, the veg was pretty dried out and the yorkies were sooo crispy when you tried to cut them they cracked up and the plate was swimming with gravy
M. J.
Soo much food for breakfast, as well as Yorkshire puddings with gravy.. Not my first choice I'll admit, but somehow it works.
P. C. b. P. L.
Nice morning buffet breakfast, set me up for the day.
S. C.
Very generous sandwiches and wraps! Excellent value.
S. P.
We've just got home from a lovely evening at the Toby Carvery Caversham. Booked a table for 8 guests. Can't fault the staff. Very polite and helpful. Made us feel very welcome . Credit to the two waitresses that looked after us. And to the man who checked us in and helping with our requirements for the Birthday cakes we took with us for our two grandchildren. 100% would definitely return again. Well recommended. Thank you all.
Mr and Mrs Pierce.

I've visited twice this week - once on a weekday evening and once at the weekend. Lovely staff both times who did their best to keep up with everyone when it was busy. On our second visit, the food seemed to have been out for a long time and looked dry! Our plates and glasses were dirty but were quickly replaced.
P. C.
Generally good service. Depending on which chef carves your meat, you will either get good value or great value. Food is always fresh, hot and tasty. Service from the wait staff is usually very good. The location is convenient with free parking and the restaurant is clean and a nice place to be.
s. W.
My wife and I came as we fancied a Carvery and the team here deliver excellent service.
Katie, our server, is always brilliant but deftly managed her very busy shift.
Best bits: the same server throughout the meal and being advised what dishes had sold out BEFORE we ordered. That professionalism is lacking in most chains. Here the whole team handles the pressure. Definitely coming back.
D. H.
Great staff, great service.
Meat great, vegetables a little dry as we arrived at about 8.30 and i assume the peak custom had gone
S. K.
The whole family loves and enjoys being here..
M. b.
Good food and good service. The tables are a bit close together making it a bit of a tight squeeze in places.
D. H.
Good food, good service and a good night.
N. W.
Great food, excellent service!
L. N.
Love going there. Meet awesome, just need a little chewy. Awesome fresh veg and roast potatoes 😜
T. W.
Food as ever is very good and in plentiful supply. The wait for the booked table can be a little annoying, but, it's worth the wait. It matters not if you are on your own or with friends. It's good value for money. The bar could do with a guest ale ( of the real ale variety ). Time I paid another visit.
S. T.
Exactly what you would expect, nice selection of food on offer for Buffet, quality isnt great but still good. Service really slow.. to be seated, to order drinks, to pay. Probably spent more time waiting than eating... at a normal restaurant this would be fine but a buffet is quick service and half the job is done by us.
Still I would go again, love a roast just wish the food was a little more loved by the chefs.
P. C.
Been here a couple of times and would have rated it 3 stars. This time great service and food fantastic, possibly a new chef. I've paid a great deal more for a carvery that wasn't up to this standard. Hope they keep it up!
D. C.
Visited recently food good but the service was slow one serving dinner so had to do the meat and veg also takeaways was being served before the bookings.
A. P.
Great food. Had their Sunday roast. The roast was good but it misses the sauce.!
D. S.
Located on the outskirts of Reading/boarder of Caversham this is a fairly large Toby Carvery. Booking system works well. However had issue with paying with the App. It wouldn't save or progress further than entering a new card. Had to pay by card machine which also wouldn't take my contactless! So good for being contactless and safer!!! Sort those issues out please.
M. R.
Just been to have a lovely lunch with our mum and dad and was greeted at the door we have came down from Scotland and Jake our waiter was so friendly it was a lovely experience we will definitely come back again next time we are in Reading
B. D.
We had to wait a little while for anyone to come to seat us, but once they did (in a little private area because I guess we were a fairly large group) everything was good.
The dish I wanted was not available so I went for the vegetarian roast. The chef was a bit slow serving the meat and there’s not any way to skip the line straight to the vegetables so that’s unfortunate. You’re allowed return trips to the food bar which is nice.
My wife ordered a mushroom and ale pie, but it arrived stone cold. This was taken off our bill without an issue.
J. W.
It's ok for a carvery, sizes of portions are hit and miss, my husband had his plate pulled high with meat and I only had a couple of slices even though we had the same size meal. Long wait to be served for children's meals, puddings and drinks. Very busy if you go on a Sunday (as with most carvery places!) a bit quieter after 7 though. Brownies were dry and no decaf latte option which is a shame (they only have a bean to cup machine apparently with no option of decaf). Staff are friendly and were great with the kids. Family friendly
L. G.
Service was good.
Food it's not like it use to be.
Gammon was OK
Beef was hard
Turkey was good
Pork non existing
Definitely need improvement to go back to the standards we ware used.
D. W.
Went here for a Christmas meal out with the family. We all have different food likes but there was enough available for us all to have something we liked, except they'd run out of the salmon which was a big blow for me. We had a very nice waitress, who was courteous even though the place was very busy. Parking may be a bit tricky at times as it has a small section in a shared car park with its next door Premier Inn.
M.
Stopped by this place to try the Breakfast buffet which was £6.89 for unlimited food and drinks. The place was very friendly and festive. Father Christmas also made an appearance. Ok the food wasn't top notch but the sausages were great and for the price it was very good value.
A. L.
Great value for money! Today's and breakfast!! Staff can be quite lax and a bit rude. Took a while to pay for my breakfast as the guy behind the bar was just fiddling with things. Considering there is so little customer interaction they should focus on the times when they are dealing with them. Great food though and great place for good value nosh.
D. I.
Love the food here. you are seated then you go up and get your food and you can go back and refill vegetables and potatoes as many times as you want it's the meat you only get once so it's kind of like an all you can eat Sunday dinner. You pay at the table after your meal. drinks are ordered at the table. How many different condiments. There are high chairs for babies and the staff are helpful and polite 5*
M. C.
Couldn't fault the food. Would recommend
S. M.
Been here a few times and you get what you pay for at Toby's.... A budget meal and dining experience. They have drastically improved from a few months ago, but the customer service is still not up to scratch. We were forgotten about once we got a table, not offered any more drinks or deserts. No complaints about the food.
J. N.
Fantastic service from the gentleman behind the bar, the name on the receipt said Will. Definitely goes above and beyond. Food was amazing and the line chef plating the veg listened to every single one of my picky requests. Amazing experience :-)
m. w.
Really like how they serviced the carvery, the plate gets brought to your table after you choose your meal. Table service was good, the staff were really friendly. Will be visiting again soon.!
P. S.
Need to get there timing's right on Google, says closing at 10 am mornings, but does not stop serving breakfast until 11am this was on a Sunday.
Food was reasonable, but was quite fatty, children enjoyed the breakfast. Coffee could have been better.
A. H.
Enjoyed a carvery with friends. Went early, 6pm, so not too buzy. Were able to sit and chat after our meal. The staff were attentive and friendly. Not all the desserts were available, so had to choose an alternative.
m. h.
Ran out of Yorkshire, but everything else was good. 15 of us turned up quite late but they were still able to seat and serve all of us.
S. R.
Attentive, friendly staff. A colleague and me went for the buffet breakfast. Food was superb. The scrambled eggs were superb and the bacon was ideal... crispy but not crunchy.
This Toby shows signs of wear and tear, but this may be down to it never being quiet. Very busy place. Best sum up? Tired but immaculate.
K. W.
The beef joint was really fatty and the chef carving didn't understand why I wasn't happy to have that amount of beef fat. I feel they should have trimmed it a bit.
The meat I did have (turkey and pork) was very nice.
Always busy so recommend booking.
C. A.
Foods really good okay service
C. C.
It's your standard Toby's, enough said. However we noticed they were very quick to replace the veg at the carvery which was nice. As usual they were understaffed though so we opted to download their app and use it to pay for our food. This was surprisingly straightforward and easy to use and I look forward to paying this way in future. We even managed to split the bill too.
All in all your average Tobys experience
M.
In these covid times, patience is a must, from waiting to be sat at a table right through to waiting for others to be served as you are not allowed to serve yourself in case you spread the corona virus. Food is good, hot as should be expected and the meat is tender, veggies were just the right side of crunchy and downright munchable.
S. W.
Wonderful breakfast, they've really stepped their game up. Shame I couldn't move after overdosing on bacon.
a. d.
Very nice food
Staff were excellent
Tables spaced out well due to covid
Only one slight complaint could do with more meat
P. K.
Great Sunday roast, service was good even though you collect your own meal. 4 meats to choose from. Loads of scrummy vegetable's. Their stuffing is exceptionally good as are their roasties cooked in dripping. We went at 1230 and the restaurant itself was looking a bit worse for wear, food on the floors etc. It is excellent value, a lovely roast dinner for £12.00. We've been before and will definitely be going again.
R. A.
Was lovely and quiet at 2pm on a Monday:-) service was great, not too rushed but Def not too slow, only 4 stars from me, small points, aircon was blowing too hard and chilled us all down while eating and made my dinner cold, although made room for a dessert so should add a star really.
Thanks to the friendly staff will definitely go back again.

It's a Toby Carvery, what more to say. The food was OK, we had a good portion of meat carved for us, which can't be said about all Toby Carvery. The waiter was high as a kite but that just made for a hilarious meal, not the experience you want in front of your children though.
K. C.
Friendly service and good food quality
s. d.
Had a wonderful breakfast today with my two daughters, really enjoyed the meal and our waiter, Jane, was brilliant, a smiling face with a great se ce of humour.
I. F.
Great food great service every time, and over this last month August 50%off so an even better time to visit. We tried their breakfast carvery as well as their evening carvery great choices of meals and veg.
b. e.
We are from penzance in Cornwall and dont have the pleasure to enjoy your food down this way so this was a treat. Friendly staff and well set out
N. J.
Really good deals and proper portions. They also let us stay late and were very patient when we kept messing up the bill! Great service.
J. C.
Excellent food for everyone. Nice round table for 6.
R. G.
Excellent service. Food was good. Great system in place for carvery during this time of restrictions to stay safe. Very convenient being adjacent to Premier Inn
E. S.
Toby carvery at Caversham is a regular spot for us and the carvery can range from spectacularly good to mediocre. Our latest visit was unfortunately towards mediocre end with both slow service and below par veg especially the roast potatoes. The restaurant was particularly busy when we arrived though we were shown to a table straight away. There was 2 adults and a teenager in group and we all had dinner, desert and soft drinks and with the AA app which gave us a 20% reduction off the bill our meal came to £35. This represents very good value and is worth the risk of sometimes not getting the absolute best food.
P. W.
A lovely meal, lots to choose from. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
J. P.
Food was good. When we arrived we were told there was a 45 minute wait. We looked online and there was an option to book a table for 10 minutes time. We booked the table and we're sat and eating within 20 minutes. The app was really handy for splitting the bill and paying.
P. F.
We had a lovely family get together, the lady serving our table could not have been nicer. Food was delicious, staff friendly, quick service at bar. Would not hesitate to recommend.
R. C.
Never had Yorkshire pudding for breakfast but it was mixed with bacon bits (there was also gravy!!). Good selection of items and it was pretty good value but the negatives are; ran out of hot water in the urn and the toaster was slow as hell, as a result my breakfast was cold by the time I actually sat down.
A.
Very good during the week. On Sunday they seem to struggle a lot to keep up with Bering so busy. Friendly staff. They don't seem to cope with disabled that brilliantly on Sundays, during the week they are superb. Food is always very tasty. Always seems to be a clean environment. Excellent prices
S. O. R.
Great Breakfast here Full English served at a buffet style and you can eat as much as your plate can take. Keep you going for the day if you spend time walking around Reading town centre. Sunday roasts very impressive. Great dining experience and not breaking the bank either. Very near to Thames river walk which is fabulous on a lovely day bring a camera. Lots to see and do in Reading.
S. S.
Regularly go for a breakfast. Excellent buffet style brekkie, food is always hot and great quality and a really good selection for an extremely reasonable price. (And to be honest I love a Yorkshire pudding with my full English breakfast...yummy) a true all you can eat feast.
D. P.
We visit here once a year during readings comic con this is the easiest place to eat with being adjacent to the hotel, food quality is good, no lack of seating, helpful staff, cheap for the carvery and delicious. Unlimited refills on certain soft drinks and reasonable prices on alcohol, definitely visit when hungry.
g. b.
Nice place to eat pleasant place to drink
R. C.
Friendly staff, food was excellent with a relaxed atmosphere. Look forward to coming back.
D. R.
The meal was good but a lack of gravy was a disappointment
Our table was near an overworked air conditioning unit & was uncomfortably chilling staff were asked numerous times before it was turned off. AC is good to use but maybe in December at night it's time to turn it down
The ceiling had water dripping from it near the carvery serving area. Looking at the ceiling this is an ongoing problem
N. S.
Lovely carvery, currently all served for you due to covid restrictions. Beef was lovely and tender with large Yorkshire pudding. Nice coffees.
R. T.
Food good service hit and miss if you are not going to put cutlery on table make sure you hand it out too many people having to ask
V. K. P.
Ambience is great.. Service is poor though.. Waited at the table for half an hour for someone to take an order.. Gave up after some time and had to leave..
W. M.
This Toby Carvery meets its goals of good quality food and large portions. The large breakfast is almost perfect but a Yorkshire pudding with a full English breakfast was a bit odd and I would have preferred traditional has browns. Other than that it was good.
S. W.
Nice. Well prepared meat on the carvery and plenty of vegetables.
R. C.
Gammon was good, potatoes were ok but didn't have much flavour. My grandmother's roast beef was mainly fat and gristle so she couldn't eat much of it. Vegetables were not very warm and also didn't have much flavour. Mac and cheese was disgusting. Service was quick.
T. P.
Love a good Toby Carvery, great food that isn't too expensive. Helpful kind staff too
R. T.
Staff and service were both excellent, plus the carvery was up to the usual Toby high standard....,but don't do there for a quiet Sunday roast! We were surrounded by noisy, badly behaved kids! Stick to weekday evenings.
E. F.
Classic carvery, good potatoes and veges! I can't comment on the meat, because I didn't have any. It would be nice if it was cleared that people who weren't having meat didn't have to wait in the long queue, because we don't actually contribute to the queue, being as the most time is in carving the meat.
A. L.
The food was good. We went at a peak lunch time and the service was fine. We didn't queue too long at all at the carvery. Under 3's get a side plate for free veg ect. fab!
L. P.
My sister and I came here for something quick because we had somewhere to be after, we've not had the best times with toby carvery, but this was honestly the best experience of a toby carvery! we were seated quickly, was greeted by a lady named Katie who was lovely, we got our roast quickly. But the roast was so good, honestly the best carvery we've had. all the food was fresh and delicious. was all cooked perfectly! was also great to have the option of Mac n Cheese. I dont eat meat, but my plate was stacked with all the veg and options there. 10/10.. but also had 40% off (with the app) because its tuesday! £14 for two roasts and two bottomless drinks.. literally cannot go wrong, well you can go wrong, good thing it didnt! so happy!
E. c.
There is Plenty of parking at the Tony carvery the Food i had was passable. there was a serios lack of waiting staff however the waitress my table had was very good.
It was very busy and insanely hot the toilets where unclean. A very average experience
K. P.
We came in with an hour cue. When we got to sit down and get food there was none. All the veg was empty,we waited 30 minutes befor we could actualy eat and by the our meat was cold. When we sat to eat our roast potatoes were raw. Not my best exsperiance
l. c.
Good food at a good price. Friendly staff. Reason for dropping a star was a few days before we were turned away at about 7pm as they'd run out of meat. Didn't seem busy either, so not great planning for a restaurant.
h. p.
I think with Tony Carvery you pay for what you get really. I often go on hangovers when I’m hunger and want a roast. I probably won’t take a hot date here however they are good at what they do.
When me and my friend went it was very busy and took about 10 minutes for us to get to the buffet which didn’t really matter but l can understand for some this wouldn’t be ideal.
This is a great place for fussy eaters as you create your own roast therefore for children I would highly recommend it! If you haven’t been to a Toby Carvery I would say go to one! It’s a cheap way to get a roast.
B. A.
Just finished swimming in rivermead, then walked 1min down the road to Toby :)
Usually end up in a crown carvery so it was nice to be somewhere a little better, however on this occasion there was a few issues...
Yorkshire puddings were mostly dry (you could snap it anywhere but the base) but with a bit of gravy they were manageable.
The waiter was a touch distant, we were finished for about 10mins before a waiter cam to the table next to us. I called her 3 times with no response.
Had to go to the bar.
All in all, a nice meal out!
(Next time I'll stick to a crown carvery though)
N. H.
Went there with my wife and her folks. While in there I asked for a coke, with ice and lime slices. I got a Pepsi, with ice and lemon. The said Pepsi was so weak and flat in taste I could not drink it (not like me as I can usually accept small imperfections). I did in the end have a beer as there was no bottles or cans of coke there that day. The food was OK (I had a Veg carvery (normal carvery minus the meat). I then had dessert. All in all the visit was OK (PLUS point, it was VERY good value).
T. M.
Friendly staff. Asked to have one dish changed as it had gone a little dry and it was no problem. Food good and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
N. G.
Good food served quickly. I'm taking a star off it because there were kids running around the place screaming at 9pm. It wouldn't kill the staff to smile, too.... But again, this is probably because of the screaming kids.
S. O.
Very good customer service and lovely seats outside if to enjoy the sunny weather. Mashed potato wasn't as great but gravy made it work. Gravy is just something in there!! :)
T. S.
Excellent place for Roast dinner, any day of the week with small, large or Kingsize potions. Puddings are excellent too, with the options of taking your pudding home with you if you don't fancy eating it after dinner. Takeaway roast dinner from Toby is also fabulous. Cheap option for a family meal out or at home.
R. S.
Good food and good price. Good social distancing until queueing for carvery as u get rushed from the meat to the veg and other people are piling up behind you but very helpful friendly staff
A. C.
We were advised to sit in the bar area to avoid a long wait . Unfortunately dining in this area you are not afforded any service , collect your cutlery at the bar, table not cleared of dirty plates , not a waitress in site , no sweet menu offered , but it’s still the same price as the set tables .
Choice of meats is good and a fair price if you get a proper table.
D. D.
All round good for their speciality Sunday Roast, but be prepared to wait your turn in the slow queue.
Main meals always get topped up but they tend to forget about the sauces.
We had a great deal on the taster starters and desserts were great too.... make sure to leave room.
Would come again, but advise to book ahead whete possible. Saves a lot of time on that wait, opposed to the turn up and hope option.
5th star would come from better quality meats i.e. ours was quite 'fatty' on this particular day.
D. B.
Good food and service.
The place was packed on a Sunday afternoon and there was a huge queue to get to the food.
All good though and the roast lamb was a nice bonus.
Recommended as usual.
G. M.
Great food great service will definitely return
H. F.
Friendly staff, lovely carvery with good choice of veg & roast
a. p.
Fast service good price bacon a little under cooked for taste but the biggest let down was no fried bread but instead a Yorkshire pudding A YORKSHIRE PUDDING ON A FRY UP. Not sure how I feel about that really. Overall not a bad breakfast.
M. P.
A lovely warm atmosphere for families on a cold Winter's day. A pity there was no gravy even though I asked. Arrived eventually when dinner was cold. Carvery quality & veg good.
S. P.
Not as good as it used to be
01.06.22 we went for the breakfast it was OK as some of the items weren't that warm and they had only just came out of the kitchen
D. H.
Standard Toby. Breakfast good value for money with vegetarian options available. Nice Latte
M. M.
Not the best Toby's I've been to food-wise, but for the price I can't complain! Good customer service, but they now have an great app that prevents long waiting for the bill at busy times of day.
S. J.
We enjoyed our roast dinner on Saturday evening.Good price with excellent service.
B. R.
We went here on the 4/2/18 for a pre-brithday celebration. Someone booked a table for 2pm and we didn't get one until around 2:30 so quite a wait time. I'd like to say however, the wait was worth it as very nice calvery was served to everyone with quite a selection. Parking was quite an issue with quite a small main lot shared with the local "Premier Inn" Overall, happy with our meal though.
J. C.
Excellent staff and service levels . Most accommodating and helpful , thanks ( and great food too )
R. S.
Group of four of us visited for Sunday lunch. As far as I'm aware this is the only carvery in central Reading.
Food was excellent, service a little slow as it was very busy.
Will definitely go again, recommend!
N. W.
Went for lunch today with friends. We were served by Megan who was extremely helpful to our requests
Food delicious and social distancing very good.
We will be back. Thank you
I. L.
Toby never fails to deliver a fantastic all you can eat breakfast for such a cheap price. How they manage to make a profit is beyond me, but I am always grateful for such a tasty and filling meal that sets me up till I get home tonight.
K. M.
Spacious, reasonably priced, good vegetarian menu; besides the mushroom dishes...
R. B.
It's a relatively cheap carvery...
The meat portions have got better over time (8/10)....
Veg options a little limited...
Service a little slow..
Overall ok 6/10
I've been to better Toby places....
Parking ok....
K. S.
For a quick roast dinner, I love the Toby. The staff in Caversham are always friendly and polite. This is not a restaurant for late diners, unfortunately. A friend of mine and I tend to eat out regularly on Friday nights to 'catch up on all the goss'...only to be told to please hurry up as they want to close the restaurant. We got there at 8:45pm... barely eaten our roast and were contemplating having a dessert... Considering that this Toby is linked to an hotel, one would think the hours over weekends would be slightly different. So, consider the timing of your meals....oh yes, they also take bookings!
B. H.
We had a midweek roast. You get a decent amount of meat: either roast beef, turkey, gammon or a combination of the three. Unlimited vegetables are available. Good value!
T. J.
Lovely lunch. Not too much of a wait and very welcoming staff
J. W.
Excellent meal sizes for an amazing price! Don't feel you need to get the super size as the normal one is more than enough. The service was amazing, loved our waitress.
l. f.
First time at a carvery. The meat was not good. Full of grisly, the table was freezing I had to eat with my coat on. They sat us right next to a draft from the door. It was cheap but not nice.
V. B.
We had a really nice dinner. Staff was very helpful especially Becky. Food was tasteful and the atmosphere is quite relaxed and pleasant.
N. S.
Food was good but under staffed so had to wait for drinks etc
J. M.
Great food, service was excellent also.
K. M.
Wasn't the best meal put we've had a Toby carvery. They were very busy with Christmas parties and busy in general, unfortunately they had ran out of food on the carvery not long after opening which was a shame but at least there was meat and roast potatoes!!
J. G.
Excellent service, food could have been hotter. and looked as if had been sitting in the dishes for a while ! No Mint Sauce and Gravey nearly empty. Still good value.
A. C.
Make sure to book a table if you’re visiting here as it is very busy. Fantastic value and you can keep going back for unlimited vegetables. The drinks are refillable as well.
J. P.
Sunday lunch at last minute Best to book in advance but due to cancellation shown table for seven straight away by greeter who was very welcoming and polite Service was very good throughout meal Beef a bit fatty for me but carver gave me extra for me to cut out
M. H.
This is a regular breakfast location for me, all you can eat breakfast and all you can drink coffee. The food is normally of good quality and the staff have always been friendly I see no reason to stop using the place, do take the opportunity to visit for breakfast if you get the chance.
H. B.
Nice little establishment, they're currently undergoing quite a bit of work inside so it's quite a bit smaller than normal. I'd recommend booking ahead for a Sunday roast as it's quite busy around midday
Z. Z.
It was okay. Staff were friendly and helpful. But the potatoes were very poor. Do you want a recipe for roast potatoes? I'm happy to come and show you.
S. S.
Very tasty Xmas carvery
Lovely real vegetables as opposed to other chains
Red cabbage parsnips sprouts cauli and Mac cheese stuffing etc had gammon and beef
Lovely staff as opposed to other local chain
Plenty of it
Staff helpful even saved a lost Xmas present for us to collect
p. s.
Nice all you can eat breakfast. Sausages are great!!
V. P.
Slightly standoffish staff, an undermanned bar (resulting in long waits and much grumbling from other customers) and rather tasteless gravy. Would still recommend for a hearty Sunday lunch for the incurably greedy (like me!)
M. B.
Taking part of the government scheme and everywhere was so clean. Food really fresh & wonderful staff! Will be visiting again. Thank you toby
D. B.
Confusion on arrival about reservation and 6 of us were squashed in a bunk meant for 4..we moved ourselves. Excellent vfm but although carvery was tasty and a great choice of dishes sadly it was barely warm.
E. S.
Decent food (as with any other Toby carvery) but the toilets were disgusting! Only 2/5 were useable, 1 was out of order, 2 had the entire loo roll shoved down the toilet, and the useable ones had no toilet paper.
S. S.
Went for the all you can eat buffet. Food was good a little dried out but I've had far worse from this chain. The restaurant is nice, bright and clean. The staff were friendly.
B. L.
Good selection of vegetables and eat as much you like. Meat only one helping, unlimited refills on soda. Always nice staff. Also you should try the breakfasts great deal
R. M.
Food was very tasty and was great value with the eat out offer. Social distancing measures were very limited and the overall ambience could have been better
S. F.
Lovely filling meal at Toby Carvery.
f. h.
Great, reasonably priced comfort food. Excellent staff but ladies loos in need of attention. Not good and let's down the side.
L. S.
Food is ok it is what you see.i went before covid. go up get what you want and done they are quick at refilling too
M. C.
Great carvery with the usual trimmings. Just not very clear which bits were gluten free, even after asking. But we managed ok: )
K. G.
Excellent roast, choice of lamb, gammon, turkey, pork and/or beef. Tender. Great selection of vegetables. Clean. Definitely recommend for a good meal at good prices.
V. M.
Not crowded tonight, so really nice. No problem parking. Enjoyed the food, nice serving staff, no queues. Happy with everything.
P. B.
Very good carvery, system now is meat & vegetables are plated for you (good size portions)and taken to your table, good service, efficient staff, well pleased.
N. “. S.
Lovely all You can eat brekky! Not overly busy, so no waiting for Your grub. Priced very reasonable too! All in all, worth going for.
A. S.

M. D.
Tasty, lots of variety, well cooked and fresh, value for money, very good service. Friendly staff, highly recommend it x
T. C.
Never had a bad meal here yet. They really do need to sort out the heating. Doorway porch was lovely and warm though!!
C. B.
Very tasty food, friendly staff and good value
V. K.
The best meal out to have to welcome being able to get. Loved every bit of it, thank you.
J. B.
Nice friendly place, can usually find a space in the car park. Plenty of veg and choice of roast meats. Only one cask ale on offer. Good value, high chairs for little ones
R. W.
Great. Food
S. A.
Lots of choice with the vegetables. Ideal for vegans.
W. L.
Excellent, vaule for money. 7 £you can est and drink (coffee or tea) as you can.
N. H.
10/10 food and service was great, cannot recommend enough 👌
J. G.
If you eat a LOT then this is the place for you, always clean and food never runs out, mind you I've only ever eaten a carvery and had a Xmas meal which was equally as good.
J. B.
Very friendly staff and quick service
J. R.
Good locality.. but the queue was horrendous food was respectable there was 6 of us and the price was fair too.. all in all was a good late lunch.. but somewhere a bit quieter next time..
C. A.
Ok. Waitress came to the table and complained about how tired she was before saying anything else. Food good though and reasonably priced.
J. H.
They're alright. Nice staff, good menu and good location. Weather was nice so I could sit and eat outside. I could be returning there...
I. T.
Always excellent customer service and great food, never a problem in Toby Carvery, Caversham
A. G.
Can't beat a good carvery! The staff were really friendly and helpful. The building could do with a bit of love though...
j. l.
Great place great food
W. S.
Excellent food and excellent service. Was a bit disappointed that there was no crackling. Would have definitely been 5 stars 😊 x
L. B.
Staff were friendly and service was good, enjoyed my evening.
J. B.
Great value for money, classic English roast meals with unlimited vegetables. Toby often has special offers for those signed up to mailing lists
A. H.
Really nice staff. Food was lovely
n. C.
Really lovely hot food
s. m.
Favourite place to eat although they are not the best for portions on meat but still absolutely gorgeous😊
J. M.
Wasn't too impressed with the service
S. P. T.
A good choice of food. Vegetables are often dry. Sauces are not usually replenished . Serving staff are polite and attentive.
D. J.
Food was tasty and the service was good, aesthetically the veg didn't look amazing but overall we enjoyed our lunch and it was friendly on the pocket!
M. J.
Lovely carvery, good tasty meat really nice potatoes and veg, staff helpful and efficient well ordered covid procedures.
H. M.
It was good food, and no feeling of being rushed. I would like to give 4.5, but as it is not possible I will go for 5. There really was nothing to fault.
B. D.
Love a Toby Breakfast before starting work 😋 Like all Toby Carvery"s what you see is what you get 👍
G. C.
Nice place , good serving by staff... 5 stars 🙂✌
H. B.
Fab staff.. good food...can't beat the value for money....just need to re-arrange the seating as had put us on 3 seperate tables which for the 2nd year running was not acceptable
J. E.
We have liked it there for a Sunday Roast but you do need to book a table before you go. It's very popular.
A. G.
Nice place ...but had a long wait for meat to be replaced & it wasn't very warm. I would still try again though as it could of been a bad time of day.
N. L.
Really nice, good service and really tasty mix of roasts. Abundant portions and warm atmosphere complete the picture for a very nice place to visit during the cold months!
L. C.
Such a friendly relaxed restaurant. Staff were excellent. Food was hot and very tasty.
M. M.
Food taste good, Good prices, Make sure you give Car Reg when entering to avoid a fine

S. B.
Amazing food and great value
A. F.
Amazing food and great staff
C. B.
Just what I'd expect from a carvery, good honest food but nothing spectacular.
Staff friendly, arrived at midday on Saturday and got seated straight away.
Thanks Toby Caversham!
T. M.
Tasty food with good selection of veggies. VERY busy which delayed getting our (booked) table & long queue at carvery.
J. M.
Very good we enjoyed, veg could be warmer.
m. c.
Love this place always great food.Staff very friendly.Best place for a carvery any day of the week. The pudding are so tempting
R. B.
Went for the Sunday carvery. Very busy and seemed to take an age to get our meal, so much so that our group skipped pudding and went back to the boat.
S. A.
The old proverb 'Eyes bigger than your stomach' is this chains motto. Never have so many filled plates to the brim only to eat about half of the food and admit defeat.
s. d.
After all the times going to Toby Carvery and having mediocre meals this was the best ever,Meat was perfect, veg just right, not dry,and knickerbocker glory was perfect
M. F.
Quick service, staff very helpful and welcoming. Food was also very good.
K. P.
The food is good, as are the stuff but there doesn't ever seem to be enough people on so the staff that are there are beyond flat our trying to great, clean and serve everyone.
S.
Very good service polite waitress will re visit
J. A.
Really busy..had to wait..no lamb left..rest of meat at carvery looked lovely.. portions bit stingey...veg is pile it high style..bit troughy..
G. C.
Great place for large group of us with children. Reserved an area for all of us, great service and space for us. Food was good but not outstanding.
J. T.
Really nice to sit down and enjoy a Sunday lunch that I don't have to cook. Polite and friendly staff
J. C.
Loads of food and although there didn't seem to be enough staff, they were welcoming and provided decent service. Well worth a visit!
A. A.
