H. H.My boyfriend and I visited yesterday for brunch whilst staying in Southampton and really enjoyed our experience. It was quite busy when we arrived so we were lucky to get a table and they let us know there would be a 30 min wait for food when we ordered which we were fine with and they served our food within this timescale.
We had the Turkish Eggs and Full English Breakfast Wrap and both dishes were delicious and good portion sizes.
Would definitely recommend!!
C. A.A very pleasant visit here for an early dinner before visiting the Mayflower theatre. We had a few beers and then ordered burgers. The chicken stack with hash browns & egg was delicious as were the seasoned fries. My companion had a double beef burger with onion jam and also enjoyed it very much. The staff were helpful & friendly and the whole place had a really great friendly vibe. Menu extensive for teas coffees drinks but quite limited on food. Having said that a few things done well is preferable to huge choice but done poorly.

M. R.I used the upstairs space at Guildhall Square for my Mum’s 70th birthday yesterday and everyone had a really great time. The staff were super helpful and accommodating, plus the drinks and food were as good as always! They even stayed open an hour later than they usually do for us which was such a lovely thing to do! Would recommend!
P. S.I’m struggling to find good coffee in Southampton but this place is the best I’ve come across so far.
It’s ludicrous how long you have to wait sometimes. Went on the weekend to be told a 15 min wait for coffee ? I looked around to see most people already had one so it was most confusing.
Good food and great coffee. Just a bit of hustle needed from the staff and it’d be perfect!
J. W.OK, but expensive and not at all welcoming. Quite shocking really, despite my attempts, in being polite to them. Took a little while for our drinks too, and the place was mostly quiet.
I'm going to assume something had happened earlier, for staff to have been so 'neutral' with their customers, but under normal circumstances, I would have rated this as 2 stars, maximum, for this experience.
I cannot recommend, but I suspect you might get a different experience on another day.
P. B.A nice big space to hang out in and service/staff are good. Coffee is fresh and well made. The food is fine but very over priced for what is quite basic fare. Like £7+ for plain eggs and toast is ludicrous and add bacon and it’s £10+. Brunch starts quite late too.. is it even brunch if It’s not served until lunch time?
J. O.We like Mettricks because of its setting and atmosphere and because the breakfast/brunch until 5pm is unbeatable. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience this last time due to their poor service… coffees were forgotten and we had to go downstairs and re-ask for them… they forgot to bring our cake (although the staff was very kind to refund us) and our burger was served without bacon! (when we complained they told us that they had run out of it and that we should have been informed when ordering, but this wasn’t the case... again very kindly the staff offered hash browns in return for the missing bacon). We like Mettricks and we would like to come back again so we hope the next time we do so the service ensures our experience is (once again) the one we like Mettricks for!

D. W.I've always loved the eccentricity of Mettricks. The coffee shop / Cocktail bar type / Café - mannerisms in the personality. Their cocktails are lovely but not knock your socks off type lovely. The Salted Caramel Martini is pretty lush and if you're not into something that sweet then they make a pretty good Bloody Mary as well, though. Perhaps they could spice it up a bit with some identity, and add their own twists on things. The food is a notch up from the cocktails and it's definitely somewhere where you can go for a bit of different. Fully loaded hash browns with Parmesan and truffle is particularly mouth watering and not as pricy as a lot of the options on the menu. Average price for a good lunch would set you back about £9 and there are a few more expensive options; the quality of the food reflects that, though. So not horrendous.
Their coffee is something they pride themselves on and they make that abundantly apparent. I can see why, it is very good and was pleased to see a selection of replacement options for cow's milk.
I'm not a vegetarian and far from vegan but I really enjoy their vegan options. It's very tasty and they put some good combinations together. The vegan breakfast wrap is a particular favourite. Not that I can really remember but I'm sure vegan food was not this good 10 years ago. Next time you can use that to offset some of your carbon footprint.
Overall a really great little place and I've visited Woolston and Guildhall a few times. Their ethics, mission and vision is admirable and their values reflect in the service.

J. H.It's a nice space with fresh modern decor and a trendy feel. There's bags of speciality coffee to buy, and two different blends of espresso (house and guest) plus decaf. Staff were great and very friendly. Food and coffee were decent for the price but not amazing - I ordered a guest espresso and had to take it back (subtly and politely as I could!) as it was really acrid and bitter. They replaced it no questions asked with the house espresso which was much more sweet and balanced. It was significantly better than chain coffee such as Costa but not quite up there with other speciality shops. I ordered poached eggs on toast and the yolks were unfortunately hard boiled but nonetheless the toast was delicious and for £4 it was great value.

O. N.Although there is no table service, the food was amazing. Very good value for money as the Full English cost £9 and you get 2 sausages, 2 bacon stripes, 2 hash browns, 2 eggs and a toast!

A. D.This is a very cosy cafe on the high street. Its lively bubbly atmosphere with great friendly staff. Its also dog friendly which my dog had a great to inside and the staff bought a bowl of water for her. The menu for teas and coffees as expected and some hot food too. They have a burger, a wrap, fries etc. I had the brisket wrap and chicken burger both super yummy. I would r commend for a catch up with friends or just a quick coffee. The re is free internet so you could bring a laptop to do some work if you wanted.
H. H.Food is excellent, staff are very friendly. However, it gets very noisy inside. The speakers are upstairs, and are usually set loud enough to provide music for downstairs. They're not the best for groups, either. I've booked groups in there on several occasions, and more times than not was left off the schedule or double booked.

R.We went to The Atic above Mettricks, what a fabulous place, Joe served us some wonderful cocktails 🍸 mine being one made with beetroot juice, vodka and egg White, it was amazing, Marks favourite was a coffee based cocktails with cream infused with maple syrup. Mettricks we also learnt is also a bar and cafe. Joe was very entertaining and informative.

Okay, so I ordered a sandwich, at which point I can hear you asking "now Dan, just how good can a sandwich be?"
Very. Very is my answer to your question, for you see, I had a really very good sandwich here, with a coffee.
Staff were very friendly too. Not overly so, I certainly don't want that to read as a complaint; certainly social boundaries are very much respected, but their is a welcoming atmosphere and a real buzz about the place.
If you find yourself wanting for a sandwich and a hot beverage of a lunchtime, please do yourself a favour and check out Mettricks.

I was gutted with the closure of coffee lab, but this place is just as good. Support local shops instead of greedy corporations. The cakes are great too.

K. C.Pre brexit, pre covid, this was ok - but now? It’s more average. It’s a great location, staff are lovely but the offer has slipped a bit.
Range of coffees is not as clear or wide as it was, but order a v60 and you still get your lab flask of beautifully prepared coffee to enjoy.
The cakes ? Looked okay but was dry and disappointing when it came (coffee /walnut). I was in a bit of a hurry so didn’t have the chance to feed that back; I’m sure they would have sorted it had I done so.
You can still get a great coffee here, fab location and the interior seating is super comfy and welcoming, staff are pleasant. I clearly need to buy more cakes to see if it was a one off. Such hardship.

L. C.I really love the food at Mettricks and their ethos is great but the coffee is really not good and very overpriced, especially when taking into account the size you'll get for what you pay. I would definitely reccommend popping in for brunch or dinner when this is allowed again, the vibe is definitely worth it and you'll have a great meal but for a takeaway coffee or dine out option I'd reccommend one of the many coffee places nearby. Maybe grab the biscoff brownie from here first though.

I would describe the staff as looking and sounding a little oppressed, could have been an off day for all of them maybe. The environment is fine, I had a cake, it was a bit sweet but okay, on the whole wasn't worth the walk and I don't think it is worth me returning, but if you're passing by it's better than usual big chains.

W. O.I visited Ooka recently with friends for the first time. We sat outside in the patio and the weather was perfectly comfortable. We tried a variety of rolls and pieces of sushi and shashimi. The service was friendly and excellent. The food was fresh and we enjoyed it. The prices were reasonable and it is a fun place with a casual ambience. I would be happy to visit again.

Staff friendly and knowledgeable, though not super attention at the table they were really helpful when we asked for extra stuff.

r. g.Really great coffee and a trendy decor, mis-matched chairs and tables, looks more like the hipster cafes in Melbourne, Australia. Probably the only cafe within 100m with table service, so that in itself makes it worth going to.
The lunch food is great, I think they lather freshly baked bread in butter before toasting it, packed with cheese and sausages, so it's the delicious, quick, high calorie lunch you need in winter. Cutlery and side salad for presentation, don't feel obligated to touch ether.

Interesting decor, loved the furnishings and photographs. Love Mettricks and have visited a number of times, usually the downtown branch.

J. P.Best coffee in Southampton. Flat out. Well, tied with the other Mettrickses. Lovely atmosphere, disabled access, although not to the first floor. Food is excellent as well - I highly recommend the breakfast wrap, and this branch has an expanded menu. Staff are friendly, fast and very pleasant. My go-to coffee shop in Southampton, and I try and load up on coffee beans before I go to sea because they sell kg bags of beans.
Does fill up at lunchtime, but if they switched the WiFi off for 10 minutes every hour they'd probably clear half the tables a lot faster, as you do tend to get a lot of people with elaborate facial hair and macbooks nesting at tables for 4, which really rustles my jimmies when all I want to do is sit down and attempt to drink 5 gallons of delicious coffee.
Also notable for being the only coffee chain in the city that doesn't scald the milk in a latte.
T.Had the loaded jacket with lentil and bean chilli & guacamole as it's one of their vegan options. Mild but spices were perfectly balanced, great recipe!

However, when they have live music its far to loud for a coffee shop. I go to some where like mettricks so I can hang out enjoy the food and talk to friends. But, just cant hear each over. Ive now had to walk out far to many time because of this, I dont want this to put me off suggesting mettricks.

A. M.Mettricks has a great casual atmosphere and is great for group meetings and getting work done. Laptops are welcome and there are places you can charge them.
Service is relatively swift given how popular it can be during the day, and the staff are consistently lovely.
The food and drinks are extremely good, but are very expensive, hence why I'm not giving 5 stars.
