Reviews of The Beach Hut Cafe
A. J.
Great place, great food very polite staff and good views over the river Hamble. There is also an outdoor ground floor decking area and a first floor outdoor decking area. Well recommend and I will be returning.
A. C.
Lovely experience, staff very friendly, sunny terrace upstairs. No alcohol can be taken on the beach next to the dowstairs terrace and the upstairs is not pet friendly.
R. C.
Visited with friends for morning coffee and cake. The service was great, friendly staff and the carrot cake & coffee/walnut cake was delicious. The views over the River Hamble were beautiful. Parking was available at the local pay to park and not expensive. Will certainly visit again.

Had a breakfast on a lovely warm and bright Sunday morning. The food was excellent, tasty , well presented and just the right amount. Only niggle ....no black pudding 😁
P. S.
Been for lunch today with two friends it was our first time of visiting but definitely won’t be the last…the whole experience was great….exceptional views of the river, food was excellent we had tuna jacket potato, sweet chilli wrap and chips and a bacon & Stilton panini with chips, all delivered very hot and nicely presented best chips I’ve had in a while we followed up with delicious cakes which were moist and moreish, and a huge pot of tea. Hot chocolate with all the trimmings, latte and an Americano. Great sized portions. The staff were very polite. Friendly and welcoming. Prices very reasonable too..what more can I say….good job well done and see you again soon

The roof top was the selling point of this place. I have to say due to the position of the place, a devine right for the licence to print money has been given. Two smoothies and one scone was £11.50, it is what it is and we had the choice to stay or go. We chose to stay and therefore can not moan about pricing.
N. C.
Had a lovely frothy latte, made with fresh milk, at the Beach Hut cafe which has very pleasant staff, knowledgeable about gluten free options, and sat outside overlooking the moored boats.
G. J.
Nice location overlooking the River Hamble - yachts etc.
Food - burgers, panini, sandwiches style ... was very reasonably priced. Service was good with friendly staff.
A pleasant visit.
M. J.
Stopped here for a hot drink and thoroughly enjoyed the pleasant and amazing scenery. Will definitely be back here for some lunch when they can open.
I. H.
The best take away caramel latte I've ever had & the food was delicious, nice and hot. Friendly staff too! A perfect half way pit stop on our 10 mile bike ride 😁
M. M.
Great place to stop for lunch. Good variety of food to please everyone. Now with pager system to tell you when your food is ready if you order from the kiosk.
Lovely view from the rooftop terrace.
A. N.
It's a nice little place and not too busy. Service was slow and took a good 20mins to get a drink. It's also not Dog-Friendly, so if you have a pooch it's probably best to takeaway and sit on a bench.
K. W.
Can't fault this café you can eat your food inside or out depending on the weather over looking the Hamble River, nice selection of goodies to choose from, you can order on the app or at the till and service is swift the food is nicely presented and hot the prices are comparable to most other cafes.
P. C.
The upper deck at the beach hut is a hidden Gem in Hamble. Service friendly The food consistently good. A great spot for a light lunch
L. B.
Absolute favourite spot for a weekend lunch.
Fantastic views and friendly staff. Reasonably priced and tasty food with good veggie/vegan options.
J. O.
Visited recently, very pleasantly surprised with the several vegan options. Sat upstairs on roof terrace with lovely views. Staff so friendly. Thank you
A. H.
Lovely coffee/cake/lunch stop on our walk round Hamble. Quite an extensive menu for a little place and not silly prices. Welcome stop on a cold, blustery walk
T. B.
Lovely location , but you pay for the view as not cheap for a cafe. Couldnt sit inside on a very cold bright sunny day as overwhelmed by smell of fried food
M. E.
A triumph of style over substance.
Don’t get me wrong this is potentially a good little eaterie in a great location overlooking the harbour at Hamble with reasonably priced pay & display parking close by. The problem is it doesn’t really know what it wants to be! The name and most of the offering suggests it’s a café yet with red wine on the menu at £29+ per bottle (there are cheaper ones!) and Veuve Clicquot champagne at £55 per bottle you be forgiven for wondering if it’s a restaurant.
A light and airy interior with decking and tables also outside and on the roof. Staffed manly by several young people, friendly enough but as usual they try hard but are poorly trained in customer service. Food ordering is at the counter (you have to conclude this yourself) and pay in advance for your order.
Menu has a vast array (way too much!) choice and is supplemented by a ‘specials’ board. We chose Home-made ‘deluxe’ fish pie & Salmon & watercress quiche.
Home-made ‘deluxe’ fish pie:
Presentation (see image) could have been better. The addition of a few chips or small salad garnish would have lifted the expectation somewhat. The fish seemed to be salmon, and possibly cod in a pretty bland cheese mash devoid of any discernible seasoning or flavour. No prawns. Difficult to see where the ‘deluxe’ element was? No perceptible sauce, just a watery base with the occasional scalding hot spot suggesting a pre-frozen offering.
Quiche:
By contrast to the fish pie the presentation was almost overload (see image) but visually it was so much better. That’s as far as it went however as the quiche whilst it had nice pastry was also pretty bland containing egg that seemed to have the consistency of being scrambled. The filling was dry and no apparent cheese.
Conclusion:
Undoubtedly this little gem will do well due to its location but it shouldn’t stop the owners from improving as it wouldn’t take much to make this a 5-star experience. However the owners need to decide if it’s a café or a restaurant? Chop the menu down significantly, so much choice is bewildering and unnecessary and don’t try to train the staff during peak times! (I was waiting (ignored) for several minutes to order lunch whilst the very pleasant staff member (it was her first day) was being taught how to use the coffee machine! Ordering at the counter is ok but it would be helpful if things were explained e.g. where the cutlery is? You can then watch while everyone seems to be doing something but achieves very little. Finally it costs nothing to say a cheery bye, bye, to every customer as they leave – our goodbyes weren’t acknowledged at all. Incidentally the owner was occupying one of the tables but was engrossed on the telephone for most of the time without seemingly being aware. If it was me I’d have been engaging with customers ensuring everything was as it should be!

Our first paddle on the Hamble - startef at Swanick, floated down with the tide enjoyed hot chocolate and cake and rode back on the tide. Totally recommend.

Lovely down by the river watching everything going on
V. M.
An enjoyable jacket potato in nice surroundings. Staff very pleasant.
E. J.
Great location, with amazing views, tasty food good prices
C. P.
Lovely service, food and view.
S. W.
Great little restaurant set on the terrace wonderful
C.
Keenly priced - good food - excellent views over Hamble river.
S. B.
Great coffee, wonderful cakes and all with a lovely view.
N. W.
I come here regularly, and I have to say their burgers are delicious! The meat is juicy and well stocked with salad without being overstuffed. The mayonnaise on the bun is a nice touch, and the chips are nice and crispy as well.
I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a cappuccino as much as from the Beach Hut.
The wait times occasionally are too long though, which likely is due to staffing shortages, and serving the takeaway stall while serving indoors at the same time. The food however more than compensates.
Highly recommend!
C.
Keenly priced - good food - excellent views over Hamble river.
P. L.
Lovely spot for an ice cream sitting on the bench, looking out across the harbour. Staff were friendly. Ice cream was lovely and creamy; decent size portion of ice cream in our flake 99.
J. H.
Perfect for a light bite, licenced too, so wine / beer available. So lovely to sit on the roof watching the activities on the river. When the weather is kind, its a lovely spot
M. F.
Sandwich and drink. Very nice. Great view.
J. T.
Real little gem of a place. Staff helpful and welcoming . Food well-priced and of good quality and a delightful location. Careful Covid precautions and high standard of cleanliness in public places. A pity they can't open later because of licence regulations.
J. M.
First time visit. Stopped for coffee with a Friend for a catch up. Very clean. Lovely friendly but professional staff & service. Highly recommend. Will go back.
S. B.
Great coffee, wonderful cakes and all with a lovely view.
L. M.
This place has it all. Lovely food at great prices, friendly and helpful staff, speedy service, brilliant outdoor seating. The food was excellent with great vegan options. 6 stars would be more appropriate.
E. J.
Great location, with amazing views, tasty food good prices
P. M.
Great place to be any day and even more so on a blustery day looking out on the Hamble. The food is really good, so is the service and tge staff very pleasant. They have a code which you can can scan to get the link to order from your table but you can also do the normal way if you need to.
R.
The hot chocolate is hit and miss. I've had delicious to watery and tasteless. The sweet chilli chicken wrap with lettuce and onion was something or nothing. Shame really! It's always busy and the staff are really lovely. On the plus side, it's a fab location with great views of Hamble river.
V. M.
An enjoyable jacket potato in nice surroundings. Staff very pleasant.
S. W.
Great little restaurant set on the terrace wonderful
L. K. H.
Nicely situated on the river Hamble and a car park just next to it. Can sit there with a relaxed drink watching the boats sail by or go for a bite to eat. We had a full English, portions were about right and were very good quality. Staff made you feel welcome and very friendly. Very pleasant atmosphere.
A. N.
Wonderful place for lunch and enjoyed my walk after lunch , my colleague took me here as I am recovering after surgery! Xxx
C. P.
Lovely service, food and view.
A. C.
I particularly liked The Beach Hut Cafe as it's on the Hamble Estuary and there is a lovely view of the yachts on the water. I had the chicken, ham and leek pie and it was home made short crust pastry and packed full of meat. I didn't have to play hunt the chicken in a large case of pastry. It was a relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very pleasant.
K. W.
Nice location on the river Hamble, can be busy in the summer especially at the weekend
S. C.
Love it....fabulous location to 'watch the boats go by'. Excellent coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Friendly staff. Dog friendly on patio.
J. F.
Takeaway flat white coffee and a mocha were very nice. Bit expensive but great to have a hot drink on a miserable day.
Thank goodness the public toilets are open - well one was !!
K. D.
Enjoyed a lovely walk around Hamble Le Rice on a rare sunny day in December.
This venue has a prominent location and was ideally suited to call in for a coffee and flapjack.
Covid guidelines were followed and they were pleasantly busy.
Extremely friendly welcome from the young lady serving and I will happily return another day
S. M.
Very nice cafe on the harbour front. Location is ideal and you can the ferry across from the Hamble side.
Liked the menu but they made a slight error to my order. No biggie at all, they offered to fix it which was very kind.
Great place to go for a coffee and a chill.
G. S.
Absolutely great location and very reasonably priced. Seating at ground level inside and a lovely first floor roof terrace with great views of the river
V. S.
Top place to meet . Great menu and staff .
M. B.
Decided to get out for lunch today so took the in-laws down to this place in Hamble. This is the second time we've had brunch here, and overall the food is of a very good standard with an extremely good wide variety of food on offer. You can eat inside the but if the weather is really nice you can also take the opportunity to eat your meals outside with very pleasant views over the Hamble river. The only issue overall I would say that the service and food are both very good that if the restaurant is very busy there can be a weight of up to 1 hour for your food to be delivered to your table. Other than that, it's well worth a visit.
T. L.
Lovely little cafe in a fantastic setting. Not the service these days that you used to get as there seemed to be nobody on the front and lots of staff stood chatting at the back. We were eventually noticed. The the stilton scones were in my opinion very well past the use by date. They were rock hard, dry and not very tasty. The seagulls were pleased with them though. Such a shame as we used to visit regularly. It always was a lovely location, welcoming service with fresh food, cakes and scones.
A. W.
Lovely location and I enjoy coming there regularily. Great coffee with a piece of a decent size layer fruit sandwitch cake - came a bit dry. Mixed feelings about the service-plenty of staff on the back of the kitchen was not engaging in any way with the front. Directly facing customer lady was very efficient and somehow overloaded what to my feeling contributes to my 3 star feedback. Having only 1 person in front of me was a 15 wait till I could sit down - seemed to be on a longish side. A smile and welcoming feeling is missing every time I am there...
D. R.
As others have said the front service is slow and need another person here. I could see one of the staff in the kitchen on sandwich preparation on her phone rather than working to help the poor chap ran off his feet up front.
The management do need to look at improving here.
Other than that, nice setting for a bite to eat and a drink.
S. A.
Very friendly staff, very clean and tables well spaced out. Staff wearing visors, all work behind screen except when delivering food. Café and take away available. We visited just before #lockdown2. Delicious cakes.
J. B.
Very slow service but worth the wait as food when it arrived was delicious despite the fact that the beans I got with my lovely shepherds' pie were baked beans rather than the runner beans I expected. Maybe the menu on the wall should make this clearer. Also it seemed rather strange that there was an option to have chips as a extra side dish but not salad.
N. G.
Coffee great, location great, service a little on the slow side. Difficult when busy, the barista was working flat out - just think the service model may need tweaking. Possibly take the orders and let people go and find a seat?? Not sure, have no experience in managing this type of service but I think they probably need to review their existing model.
w. p.
Amazing place with top class customer service! Great vegan options. Thank you ladies for your nice service! Our best cafe!
s. “. m.
Coffee is great! But I do not know what they done to their hot chocolate ,last 3 visits we made hot chocolate was clumpy on the bottom
And very very sweet, it’s a shame I would of given 5 stars if it wasn’t for hot chocolate being bad!
G. A.
Great views of marina and river. Lovely staff. Nice food
P. T.
Called in for tea and cake, delicious banana and chocolate cake.Lovely staff, served immediately. Great place to unwind and relax.
L. B.
Lovely place for a bite to eat, fantastic vista. Wonderful food, great staff. Just don't expect the most rapid of service. As they say good things come to those who wait and trust me it's well worth it
L. M.
Lovely for homemade cakes and great coffee, fabulous location and friendly staff.
M. G. 1.
We visited the beach hut during our visit to Hamble. Hatch service but it seems to work. Only had coffees and ice creams so I can't review their food. Friendly staff serving with a welcoming smile.
c. r.
Was a little bit disappointed. Had to wait 40 mins for couple of breakfasts. My eggs where hard my toast was stale and beans said Heinz but wasn't convinced and fact breakfast cost nearly a 10er I expected alot more quality. I'm chef myself and understand the importance of haste and quality and tgis was not a quality breakfast. The view of the quay on the other hand was amazing and the building was lovely and clean. Just poor timing and quality
V. D.
Nice cafe with a lovely view. Coffee was good . We had the breakfast bap which was very small, egg overdone and sausage Pattie tasteless.
S. P.
Went in at lunchtime for coffee and a snack. Unfortunately a 40 minutes wait for food so just had drink and a cake. It was busy as a sunny day, seemed understaffed and tables were not being cleared either. Inside cafe was chilly as air-conditioning blasting out. May give it another try and hope for a better experience next time. A shame as it is in a great spot and could be great as Hamble foreshore is a prime location.
N. P.
Lovely location, nice staff but sadly the food is not of the same quality as it used to be.
b. h.
Love this place or may be it's the walk 1st.. which ever has a nice feeling about the place
S. W.
It could be so good, only one person serving, same person makes the coffee too, having to stand and wait 15mins just to order. Oh, don't forget the cutlery that's not coming with your food! A fee simple things could make this a great cafe...
S. C.
Lovely down by the river watching everything going on
H. S.
1/2 a cup of coffee £3. ?? Staff under pressure, but they know the footfall, so get the laid off staff back!!.
Apart from that a nice lunch time snack, with descent staff!!!.
M. L.
This is a little gem in Hamble on the water front. Lovely aspects and very pleasant and attentive staff.
S. H.
This is a lovely beach hut cafe that has indoor and outdoor seating plus upstairs outside seating overlooking the yachts and boats in the harbour. Great place to have a healthy bite to eat whilst out and about. They do a lovely cup of tea and gorgeous coffee. There is usually a wait but when you are in such a lovely place you can idly watch the world go by. There is also a kiosk around the back where you can buy an erray of ice creams, drinks, hotdogs etc. I visit at least three times a week.
S. S.
Excellent. Able to cater for gluten free and seemed knowledgeae. No after effects so will go again
K. H.
Amazing chips and lovely hot chocolate for me, my mum and little boy enjoyed their ice cream :) I was just in the nick of time for chips too and it wasn't too much trouble. Great little place and done up really nicely since my last visit.
S. B.
Lovely cafe in a beautiful spot. I went about 3pm and by that time only cakes and sausage rolls were available and I was hoping for something more substantial. Having said that I'll definitely be going back for the location
J. C.
Very nice place. Good food, friendly and efficient staff.. would b happy to return...
H. M.
Will definitely come here again . Nice bacon and egg toastie with a latte . Nice view of the hamble marina. Staff are friendly .
C. S.
I popped in for a bite to eat as working in the area. I ordered a full English breakfast with a flat white. All of the food ingredients were top quality and l will definitely recommend.
J. B.
Great roof top seating in the sunshine. Very good service.
J. R.
Lovely and friendly and very relaxed little joke at the till regarding memory.
Little wait to be served however were kept informed all the way.
Lovely coffee and cake very enjoyable
G. O.
Even though it was busy, you didn't have to wait long for your food. The menu is basic, but you do have extra on boards. Not to bad value for money. Pity it's not open later (shuts at 4 o'clock) for the summer.
A. E.
Fun place for a full english breakfast before catching the Pink Ferry to Warash for the walk along the river front. The service look harassed and seem a bit fed-up. They could use brollies or a shade up on the roof when it gets hot and sunny.
M.
We go to the Beach Hut quite a lot...and we are always very pleased with the food and service. It's very clean and bright in there.
Sometimes it can be very busy..but if you have the patience to wait it is well worth it.
N. G.
We were hoping for great things, but.. a little disappointing. Service is always slow, in a don't really care way. Cakes are nice. Sandwiches are woeful. On the up side, they have tea pigs tea. 😀
S. H.
Lovely position close to the shore. Picture windows so can watch river traffic. Space to sit outside. Lovely and clean. Serves delicious home- made cakes 😊
R. C.
Very clean, warm and friendly. Good hot mug of tea and a typical tea-room comprehensive menu.
Will definitely return🤗🦆☕🍛🍽️
R. G.
This cafe is in a beautiful location with a riverside view. The food wss hot, the drinks cold and the ambience congenial. The only down side is the one toilet for all guests.
G. S.
Great cafe lovely air conditioning. Just had tea cakes and scones but they were delicious.Good quick service. Very friendly.
D. L.
We had ice creams and sat outside. £2.30 for a 99 flake - average price for the seaside. Inside is a café and also outdoor seating.
J. C.
Nice atmosphere good food (not so cheap) but very nice. Can eat in or out overlooking river Hamble with passing boats. Ideal place to let the world go by ......u being in a lovely place.
J. M.
Cafe is very nice, but a long wait if there a few people in front of you as normally only 2 people serving.good menu and licensed now.Unfortunately I received a parking ticket of £50 as my ticket dissapeard mysteriously parking warden suggested may have blown away as I shut the door ?/
C. A.
The cottage pie was good if a little over priced & more of snack than a meal but I would say overall fair value. Nice settiing by the water, kids can paddle or swim safely.
m. g.
A really good cafe right on the water front at Hamble. Plenty of seating inside, outside and, outside on the roof. Good choice of food both hot and cold and drinks. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.
W. G.
It's quite busy but service is efficient. Coffee was great. We will visit again and try the outside seating and sample the menu further.
C. K.
Lovely views and a tasty breakfast, with friendly staff
J. S.
Nice but salad garnish had gone dark green and slimly in palaces
D. B.
Good service, pleasant reception, lovely fish and cottage pies for lunch on a Friday. Good coffee. Enjoyed coming here again.

L. S.
A lovely , clean place to go for food .definitely good value for money .staff was friendly.
