Reviews of Lower Lliw Reservoir Cafe & Fishery
We called in for a lovely day out and a bite to eat.
In all fairness the day out was fantastic, the parking charges along with the extremely expensive bacon sandwich was a fairly large blot on the day to say the least!
You can't charge a premium to park, and charge a premium for the food too!
such a shame, and we won't be rushing back any time soon sorry.
Great place easy parking, just beware the postcode SA5 7NH will take you to the wrong side of the reservoir with your satnav. Think you need SA5 7NP to get you closer!
Lovely place t walk around with a picnic in the shade away from the crowds.
Fantastic place only downside 2,50 for parking is expensive and cafe is quality
Lovely walk, big free car park, a cafe and restroom. Recommend for an enjoyable walk in the countryside
Amazing place to walk and lovely cafe to sit inside after a lovely walk in the sun.
Great walk for the family . Easy parking and great little cafe. Main path down side of reservoir is tarmac and so pram friendly.
Lovely walks but cafe expensive.
Lovely breakfast /coffee in a beautiful setting
GF cake and a lovely walk
Fantastic. Proper hidden gem of South Wales. Well worth a visit. Free parking.
Lovely walks around the reservoir. The cafe was excellent. Freshly cooked food. Kept strictly to all covid measures.
A bit out of the way but was well worth the visit. Lovely walks. Dog friendly place.
I hadn't been here since I was a kid 8-9 I am now 36 brought back some fantastic memories of fishing with my father and the wonderful walks around the area
Great cafe, great service, no card machine so take cash with you. Little gift shop attached with selection of Welsh gifts to browse.
Great little get out and about for a stroll lower reservoir was a nice walk and then the hike to the top one just as nice and calming on the body.
Food excellent table well spaced for customers safety. Staff clean tables after you leave very efficient staff.
Cafe was nice & clean with a good menu. Cash only though as they have no internet connection. Something they are trying to address.
Lovely place for a countryside walk with a good view! I'm not sure about the Café & Fishery though.
Great walk on good paths. Nice cafe for light refreshments and ice creams ☺
Lovely Caffè bar also Lovely walk clean toilet
Called in to the cafe for a coffee stop on our cycle ride.
Picturesque walk, great cafe for takeaway drinks and food if you want it. Toilet facilities excellent. Lovely walk to upper reservoir. Great views Xx
Dogs not allowed in the garden. Can sit across the road on picnic benches but was a very hot day and there was no shade.
Great cafe on the edge of the Reservoir. Good for a drink and a snack and it also has outdoor seating area.
Have to pay to park but nice walk
BEAUTIFUL WALK but...
The cafe isn't dog friendly :( they offer services to the benches but no one wants to sit in the rain drinking their cuppa
Beautiful walk and lovely coffee shop

Peaceful location. Dire access road! Great ice cream at cafe
Lovely place to visit, for walks, water activities and a lovely cafe with friendly, helpful staff with whom I’m specially pleased, due to their assistance, and the help of paddle boarders in recovering my model boat which had got tangled in weeds and that I was not equipped to recover. Thanks for making my visit more than enjoyable.

Great food, friendly people. Great view.
Great place for a lovely walk. Long sections of path are wheelchair and pushchair accessible. Other paths nearer waters edge narrower and more challenging.

Lovely walk. Not much cover. Not too hard for the kids.
Good place for a short walk includes a cafe. Extend walk to Upper Lliw Reservoir.

The lliw has always been a super place to escape the city...
Great afternoon well done👹☠️🕸️ …
Not a lot to see. About 30 to 40 minutes of walking around at max.
Beautiful place and a lovely cafe
Lovely place to go for a walk with the dog
Excellent cafe nice walks
Fabulous place nice food and lovely staff
Beautiful place
Beautiful walk with great views
Lovely place to visit
A great spot for a walk and a cuppa
Lovely walk around the 2 reservoirs . My watch said 11,000 steps. Sat down for coffee then had a brows in the gift shop . Lovely way to spend a Sunday morning
Great walk for kids and adults alike. Dogs should be kept on leads due to grazing sheep although we didnt see any on our walk. It's a fair way to the upper reservoir for kids but it's possible and a road the whole way.
With this in mind keep an eye out for cars although they tend to go slowly knowing there will be walkers and we only saw a couple.
Food in the cafe is nice too!
Nice walk and lovely cafe
Lush walks ,peaceful just over all lush
Always delicious good & fast friendly service.
Nice coffee. Miserable staff.

Fantastic friendly and relaxing
Quaint quiet relaxed atmosphere
Lovely walks and just a nice little place escape the rat race. Nice cafe on site really friendly staff. Find the take away coffees a bit on the expensive side £2.20 for the tiny cup you actually get (only bad point I can think of) there is a little gift shop attached to the cafe also.
Loved takin the kids there

(Translated) It is good to take a walk and make room for food, I recommend going around the swamp
(Original)
Esta bien para dar un paseo y hacer sitio para la comida recomiendo dar la vuelta al pantano
The easter trail was fantastic for kids, held on the side of the resevoir that has the proper paths so is pushchair /wheelchair accessible. The cafe/shop is nice and toilets well maintained and clean. There is a lovely enclosed play area but unfortunately we couldn't really enjoy this as our dog was with us and dogs aren't permitted in that area (although water bowls are outside and there are picnic tables slightly further away) Cafe food is very nice but portion sizes a little small. I had a panini which was very tasty but half the size I'd expect (small side salad and handful of crisps with it)
Have been going here for years, scenery is great, lovely walk (whichever route you choose) and area is well maintained. Super restaurant with tasty and reasonably priced menu. Can not believe a charge of £2.50 for parking with cameras in action is now in place. Will not be visiting again
Great walk around the reservoir's. Water board are now charging (£2.50 ) for the day. Yes good price, shame the pay machine doesnt take cash. And if you try to download the app to pay you then cant get any signal to do that either. Really thought that one out didnt they. Take your debit card with you if you go.. update. Have now had extra 20p added to the parking for convenience charge for using the App. Didnt see that on any of the boards on the wall or machine.
Delicious tea cake and coffee.
Just what we needed after a wet walk around the lower reservoir.
Paddle Boarding and a good feed after! Great stuff!
Nice place to have a quiet coffee and something to eat. A pleasant walk around the water or just sit and relax.
Gorgeous location. Excellent value freshley cooked food. Great place for a quick coffee or relaxing lunch. £2.50 to park all day and enjoy the beautiful walks . Play area for children too
Lovely walk, dog friendly and with a nice cafe in the carpark. Carpark is paid but not expensive and there's both a kiosk to pay at as well as the ability to use an app.
Walk is smooth and suitable for wheels (e.g. prams or wheelchairs).
Lovely walk in beautiful surroundings. Only draw back is walking the dog there were plenty of signs to keep dog on lead but no bins for dog poo. Plenty of signs that people were picking up mess but then bags thrown on sides of path as no bins provided.
Beautiful place, really nice walk
Great walk around the lower lake now the path has been cleared. If feeling a bit more energetic, carry on up to the higher reservoir. Views are lovely and peaceful. The cafe when open is pleasant and reasonably priced.
Lovely place for a coffee after a walk around the reservoir.
Great cafe but now only 20 minutes free parking when I was there they were not working and cafe was closing but they have a QR code to scan not sure if you can redeem the parking against a purchase at the cafe if not will not be going there again as they are using a ANPR reader lovely place but not worth paying to visit as you could spend hours walking around. Will just have to go over to the other side of the M4.
Easily accessible from Swansea but worlds apart from the hustle and bustle of the city. There is ample parking and a welcoming cafe. You can opt for an hour long walk around the lower reservoir or press on to the higher one through some splendid countryside. Great for bird watching
The Lliw Valley reservoirs are one of Swansea's most beautiful non coastal walks. The lower reservoir provides a circular walk (some of which is not suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs). The main walk, which goes from the lower to upper reservoir is suitable for all users (effectively a road). There are plenty of birds to see for those who are interested. The walk begins in farm land and climbs through scrub and heath up to the barren white grasslands of the Betws Mountain windfarms. There is PAID parking, a café and toilets. The gates close around 5pm. Well worth a visit if you've never been. You can hike up onto the Gower way from the top reservoir.
Lovely area to walk round, wood carvings were impressive
Nice cafe but strange rules on what you can have & when. I really don't want chips or a jacket potato on a Sunday morning at 11.30 but those are the choices as breakfast has stopped & there are absolutely no brunch options! Staff could be a little more cheerful, we sensed an atmosphere.
Also not cheap for what you get.
Lovely place for a walk. Really well paved trails and two different ecosystems - forest and moorland. Stunning views of the lliw Valley. Nice Cafe for a spot of coffee or lunch.
Lovely walk round Lliw Reservoir
Very nice place lovely food and snacks.
Beautiful area, lovely walk and a nice little cafe on site
Plenty of free parking. Clean toilets. Lovely walks and uplifting views over reservoir. Cafe bright & spacious- good coffee/ food. Outside seating available. Children's play area for cafe users. No dog allowed in cafe though.
Looks fab inside I have eaten before and food is exceptional have to admit to picnic this time with own food. However visited the shop and bought a few gifts. Lliw Reservoir is tranquil with outstanding scenery and very worth a visit. I am local and love each and every visit.
Varied menu to cover dietary requirements. Reasonably priced and friendly staff. Great place to finish your walk around the reservoir.
One of my favourite local walks. Whichever route you take is a nice stroll, though I usually park in front of the cafe (free) and walk straight, along the right side of the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir.
Lovely sights, nice in all weather, and the upper reservoir is a great bit of scenery in itself. Plenty of people out picking berries all the way along the path. Staff at the cafe are always polite and attentive, and prices are good.
Shame about the signs propped up on lamp posts along the walk though, claiming farmers have the right to shoot your dog if they scare or harm their animals. I appreciate that some people out there are irresponsible with their dogs and they go chasing sheep up mountains, but that's not the way to go about reminding people - especially as half the time, the sheep are wandering about on the footpath where you'd walk anyway. Tone that down, and grow up.
Aside from that small bit of exuberant feigned authority, a lovely place to go.
Beautiful walks all around the reservoir surrounded by nature, water and wildlife. What more could you want?
There is more parking here than you could shake a stick at and I have never (in my experience) seen the car park too full to park. There are toilets which are accessible and always tidy and clean. On accessibility- you could go halfway around the reservoir on tarmac.
The cafe and play area are excellent. The ladies in the cafe are considerate of dietary needs, there are many different options for people who do have specific needs. The food here has been simple but great and not hugely overpriced.
The play area is always loved by the children and it's an excellent option for a catch up while the kids occupy themselves! We return frequently.
This is a brilliant place to visit, plenty of parking, plenty of walks around the lakes, and a fantastic coffee shop.
First time visiting this cafe, warm and welcoming staff. A very good selection on the menu, appears to cater all dietary and allergy needs. Portion size good and prices are reasonable
Food was very good, place was pretty busy but the service was good and the staff were nice. Great spot to have a cafe, shame Welsh water have started charging for parking though
Lovely walk, hidden gem. Fab little Cafe, SUP boarding and Kayaking on lower res. Wheelchair friendly on the right side of reservoir but not to the left. Well worth a visit. 👍 …
Beautiful place to visit been a long time since last here forgot how lovely it is.
Went on the wettest most miserable day but what a place
Lovely
The cafe is small and simple, the walks are quiet and the scenary beautiful. If you walk from the lower to the upper reservoir and back it is about 6km, if you walk right around the lower then it is only half that. Good to walk a dog on a lead but not many opportunities for them to go for a run.
Beautiful walks in the area, paddle boarding classes are excellent. You can now self launch your own paddle board, excellent place, highly recommended.
Great value home cooked food with friendly staff. Plenty of choice on the menu.
Now open for take away but quite expensive for what you get. Had a bacon baguette which had way too much butter and quite bit of pale fat on the bacon so was a bit disappointing and didn't feel great value for £3.75. Milkshakes were good though and coffee was ok
Lovely place all year round for a countryside walk along the reservoir tarmac road alongside half of the lower reservoir with a narrow path around the remainder, with the road leading to the upper reservoir. A lovely little cafe with clean toilets, by the car park, with reasonably priced food. Very tasty. Also has a little craft shop with local crafts for sale. Beautiful views, around the water, nice place to walk the dog, but don't forget to shut gates and keep dogs on leads as lots of sheep in the area
Good walks. Nice views. Cafe nice. Food v. good (had full breakfast). Quiet & relaxing when we visited, though car park nearly full by middle of afternoon. Lots of dogs(supposed to be) on leads.
Lovely place for a walk, take our dog down there regular. Lovely little cafe on site. The only down side is there are no bins for putting dog waste on when walking round, apart from that love it.
Beautiful scenery. Lovely walks.
Be aware there is a parking charge now of £2.50.
Lovely walks, good for walking the dog, small cafe by car park. Very good for long wheel chair walks up to top Reservoir. Very good for strawberries picking when in season. Very photogenic all year round.
Lovely long walk with the family and the dogs, my mother in-law was using her mobility scooter which had no problems on the path to the top reservoir. Unfortunately the cafe was closed as they were on their Christmas break, but we'll be calling again in the new year.
Lovely little find......the reservoirs offer a gentle easy walk or a more adventurous one if you follow the lower paths all the way round. The main path is tarmaced so great for little ones and their scooters / bikes. The cafe is homely and serves family friendly food for lunch and teas/ coffees and cakes. Very reasonable and quick service. There is also a little gift shop which sells an interesting range of handmade and individual gifts.
Lovely area to visit for lunch.
Outstanding in a word the walk around the lower reservoir can be challenging its long and uneven underfoot but very worth it the cafe serves the usual food it can be eaten inside or out the views outside are very nice
Don't mind paying to park for the day but a shame there is no lower option available for quick walk or just visiting the cafe.
Lovely place for a walk.
One of our favourite places, there are so many different walks, benches to rest on, tables with benches looking over the water and countryside and a really welcoming, cosy café to warm up and have a bite to eat. There are fishing licences available too.
Visited today, 16 May 21 and delighted to find pathways around the reservoir have been widened and gravelled, and drainage water from fields and banks now piped under paths into the reservoir. Much better for walkers and far less muddy. Forestry and trees really well managed. They've done a really good job. Nice take away coffee too 🙂👍
What a very pleasant walk around the reservoir, a bit wet as it was fine rain but clean fresh air and beautiful surroundings. Cafe open with good selection of local dishes on offer, well presented and well priced.
Beautiful place. Went at 4:30pm midweek and there was nobody there. Parking machine was down when I went, but normally costs to park there.
Lovely walk around the lower lake. Next time will venture further up to the upper one.
Managed to use our three wheeler off-road pushchair but wouldn't recommend a normal 4 wheel type. Would recommend baby carrier instead.
Will try the cafe next time
First time coming here today, really beautiful place, very quiet and out the way.
Nice cafe on site and free parking
Beautiful location. Cafe is lovely and clean and staff are very friendly and welcoming. I had a cooked breakfast which was one of nicest around.
A beautiful walk with my dog today. Met lots of people with their lovely dogs. Only 1 point, i had to use the toilet on the return from my walk so took my dog in with me as I was on my own, only to be told by a member of staff from the cafe that dogs are not allowed in the toilets! Really, my dog is cleaner & better behaved than a lot of humans & where did you expect me to leave my dog when I was in the toilet. Come on, this is a bit OTT. A lovely day out spoiled by this.
Nice place. Simple tasty food.
Very beautiful, hidden away, at the top of the Swansea valleys. Can be really windy.
Lovely walk but the sharp stones on most of the trail may not be comfortable for everyone to walk on.
Absolutely love coming here, the walk around the reservoir is beautiful.... on a beautiful day it can be made a full day out especially with the amazing little cafe they have there... the ice creams are lovely and I love the handmade Welsh items they have for sale there. Beautiful place 😍😍 …
Lovely walk anytime of the year road suitable for a mobility scooter which is great for my wife.
Quiet road with very little traffic so good for my nervous dog
Friendly staff and great coffee
I can only comment on my walk.
Arrived at entrance gate 7am, it was barred until 8am so started my 8 mile circular from there. Not happy about parking outside.
Who owns the access road & reserviours??
At the top of upper Lliw there are now at least 20 wind turbines and the path is now a bit lost. In this section the farmer has put cows with big horns so I detoured around & through the turbines
On route back I lost the path as fencing has been put up & I could'nd find signs to get me back on it.
Ended up following the road to Felindre adding 3 miles in total to the walk.
Dissapointing as I may have ate at the much acclaimed reserviour eatery.
My view is the access road should be open for early morning walkers
Lovely friendly staff. Plenty of parking breezy lovely views
Lovely walks really enjoyed
Fantastic people amazing food and you get all that with stunning views! The perfect place for a cup of tea!
Lovely area with a few different routes to discover. Cafe staff are friendly and the place is clean. Closes at 5 which means that the toilets also close at 5 which can be inconvenient for later walkers.
Lovely and tranquil location perfect for a walk or if like me you are in wheelchair sitting just watching scenery is peaceful and the cafe is great also bought free range eggs from local house near by
A lovely place to visit.. they have a lovely coffee shop.. and if you like to walk dogs.
We were going to eat there however we noticed the £2.50 parking charge and decided to go else where. Such a shame
Nice walk. beautiful scenery lovely and quiet. cafe reasonably priced too
Beautiful 6 mile walk up and around both reservoirs with lovely mountain views 👌 …
Lovely place to visit. Food was also very good
Perfect for dog walks, option to do 2 miles or 4. Off road tracks need work, not kid friendly. Gorgeous scenery though.
Beautiful place. Visited both during rain and shine. The Autumn colours are spectacular.
Loop of the lower reservoir is approx 2 miles but feels much longer with a toddler in tow!
The woodland path is gradually being surfaced with gravel which has removed the majority of trip hazards from tree roots. It is advisable to keep an eye on small children as the path runs close to the water's edge in places.
Nice cafe serving hot food, coffee, cake and ice cream as a reward afterwards.
A £2.50 parking charge has recently been introduced, contributes towards upkeep.
Nice peaceful walk 😁 …
Lovely place for a walk. The cafe has a good menu and the prices are very good. Only thing wrong is it is not dog friendly.
Nice day, walked all the way round, very pleasant, finished off with ice cream from the cafe, served by a very pleasant young lady.
Beautiful Scenery and an excellent place to practice Mindfulness.
Only downside is the cafè only accepts cash and there isn't a cash point for miles.
Very good. Weather was very wet so didn't walk, but we had a lovely meal.
Beautiful walks and the cafe is amazing. Very reasonable prices and full plates. Coffee is extra good too.
pretty place for walking, nice car park, by the lake , but fills up quickly. Hike trail around the lower lake. Planning to go to upper lake on the next visit.
Brilliant for taking my Dog for a walk not many people to bump into and loads for Duke to do without cutting his pads on glass that the drinkers leave apart from that I would highly recommend.
Ideal for a nice cup of tea and a cake after a walk up to the Upper Lliw.
Friendly staff and reasonable prices.
Been here a few times now and really enjoy the walk and then sitting in the cafe and having some hearty food.. However on this occasion the customer service was very poor and the lady behind the counter was clearly impatient and abrupt.
This is an amazing little place to die for worth a trip out
