Reviews of Dogh

Had a lovely breakfast here before a walk. Full English was delicious. Loved the thick granary bread. Only thing that would’ve made it better is hash browns. Coffee was nice too. Picked up some fresh biscuits and they were well enjoyed on the walk.

Such a wonderful surprise to find this gorgeous little deli (not the one mentioned in our guide book). Everything was spot-on from the friendly welcome to the most delicious sandwiches made to order. Much appreciated after a long wet walk. Perfectly situated for walks around Castle Howard area. Also bought food for dinner - this place has everything you could need, even seating outside for the village to enjoy, not just customers.

Best takeaway lunches ever!
Just devoured Dogh’s passion fruit pavlova...OUTSTANDING. And that followed the best ever generously filled Coronation chicken sandwich. How do they make their bread so soft? No photos as all eaten 🤣
And if you want a treat - breakfast brunch with pals is a great way to start any day. Thank you.

This is a proper old fashioned cafe/take away. The sausage rolls are the stuff of dreams, the sandwiches stupendouse and they do fabulous deli style products with extensive bakery items. My charcuterie platter was amazing with a variety of meat, cheeses and crackers as well as bread and pickles. Give this place a try, you will not be disappointed. 10 out of 10 for me.
Update October 2022 - still fabulous!👍😊

This is a great little deli where you can also eat. We had lunch. There is a good menu and the food is wholesome and plentiful. Go after a walk, have a snack or a drink, eat inside or out. The staff and atmosphere are really pleasant and dogs are welcome.
S. M.
Lovely cake and lots to choose from. Had a delicious homemade quiche with salad and a cappuccino. Very friendly service and nice place to relax indoors or outdoors.
Really nice breakfast and coffee too!

Visited today, 25th August at lunch time, service was prompt. I have very severe allergies to Dairy and egg and these were taken very serious by the young man who served us. My husband had the Rarebit he said it was absolutely delicious and I had the BLT mine was also delicious, my bacon was cooked just perfect, both were generous portions. We both had coffee, mine was decaffeinated and again simply perfect. I would highly recommend to anyone to call in here. I bought fresh bread to bring home and will definitely get more when we next visit. Well done everyone, all the staff we saw were very nice and helpful.

I couldn't be more impressed with the cafe Google brought me too today. Only a mile from castle Howard, this beautiful place has the friendliest staff available, amazing food and an idilic location. With such a great place I was amazed to find the prices were also great. A++

Lovely little cafe, shop and deli. Very dog friendly and lovely, freshly cooked food for very reasonable prices.
This was our first visit and certainly won't be our last.

Small local cafe /deli in Welburn. Lovely home made food served by happy friendly staff. Definitely revisiting.
R. M.
Delightful little village deli/bakery with gorgeous things to eat! Only a few tables and all busy when we visited but we'll be back!

Awesome take-away Egg and Bacon bap and coffee from Dogh Welburn. The perfect place to call into when walking around the Castle Howard estate.
Loads of other nice things available including quiche, homemade freezer meals, and takeaway pizza in the evenings.

Another 5 star review. Where do I start? Friendly staff, lovely locals, a brilliant setting and sausage rolls to die for. Dog friendly (not just dog tolerant!). All in all a super experience
I. G.
Cosy atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious cakes and quite possibly the best coffee we have had in years of coming back to the UK!
G. B.
Stopped here for some coffee and breakfast, it was really nice. It's not the cheapest place, but the quality of the food was excellent and they clearly use really good ingredients. The staff are very friendly and the place has a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended. We'll be back again.
N. W.
What a lovely cafe, great food and dog friendly. The staff were so welcoming and I asked if there were any doggo treats for dogs and they have a fab range. We will definitely be back. Tasty rarebit and full English 😋 we bought a bag of the dog snacks to takeaway and a scrummy strawberry bakewell cake

One of very few cafes in the area that is open past 4pm so one of our favourite places for a post walk cuppa. The cheese scones are outstanding!

Really generous and delicious afternoon tea. Very accomodating of our child and dietary preferences
D. L.
Just had a bacon sausage sandwich it was amazing! Bit expensive but you can tell they used top quality meat bread and ketchup. So well Worth it!
L. C.
Tea and cake were very nice, cost wise to be expected due being located so near to Castle Howard,
Still good value for money though.

We're on holiday in the Wolds and discovered Dogh on our first day. It's our go-to cafe now. Out of this world cakes, good platters, superb coffee and lovely staff.
"Fancy stopping in somewhere for coffee & cake"?
"Yeah, let's head to Dogh"

Visited here after a 5 mile walk , lovely salad and a pot of tea. Nice friendly cafe.
A. P.
Lovely selection of food. The wild garlic scone was delicious. Outside seating minimal, and parking is a bit tricky as it sits on the main road through a small village. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Great cakes too...
B. F. 1.
After a wonderful breakfast, we just had to buy some bread, cakes and goodies to take home.
i. m.
Had an amazing lunch today. The staff were rushed off their feet but food was gorgeous, excellent presentation and well worth the money. Will definitely be returning. Thank you. Debbie
G. I.
Amazing food and service . Definitely coming here again. Thank you so much
N. E.
Friendly and welcoming staff, great coffee and a fantastic selection of cakes.
P. O.
The food was incredible and the staff were friendly. This would have been a 5-star review but the service could have been better and overall it felt a bit frantic in the cafe. But, admittedly, I was there at a busy time. It's dog-friendly, it's easy to park and the shop has loads of great food. Overall I'd definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area.
D. B.
What a great tea and provision shop in the pretty village of Welburn Mr Castle Howard. The food is excellent, especially the cakes. The staff are all friendly and welcoming.

We got some cakes to take away that were also fantastic.
Friendly and welcoming service.

Really disappointing experience here today. We are returners having been before and really enjoyed it, so we are sad to be writing this.
Firstly, the cafe are no longer allowed their benches on the grass verge, meaning that the benches they do have are in the shade - which is a shame.
We ordered drinks and some food, and were told there “was a bit of a wait for food”. We ended up waiting 15 mins for our drinks and then 45 mins before someone came over to us and asked if we had ordered any food. Turns out they had lost our order completely. We waited a further 15 mins and eventually got our food, which was great! So can’t complain about that.
We moved inside as it was so cold in the shade. However it is a squeeze in the cafe. I understand the shop is a bit of an odd layout, but I do think there could be some rearranging in there. On our tables we just felt completely in the way the whole time as the staff squeezed past us. There was also just lots of mess and random things laying around - not to mention the office section within the cafe.
As I said it’s such a shame to write a review like this as we are returners. But I’m just not sure we would come back again sadly.

An enormous selection on the menu, which was nicely presented, delicious and served with a simile.
We found it impossible to not purchase other produce from the counter as we left.
N. M.
Its hard to beat simple stuff done really well. White bread from way back in the good old days. The best almond Bakewell I have ever eaten. Cheese and ham toasted sandwich. Moderation so far limits a more extensive review. My new favourite stopping place.

We came across this gem on our first day in North Yorkshire in the beautiful village of Welburn, near Castle Howard, and it was so good it needed a return visit. The Yorkshire Rarebit is devine and the flapjack delicious. In fact everything we tried was just lovely. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. There are seats outside to enjoy the sun and seats inside when it's not quite so bright. And its dog friendly too. It's open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sundays so always time to drop in. Loved the various deli items to purchase, which is great when you are on holiday and want something that little bit special. This is a deli, bakery, cafe that is worth a visit and then a revisit..
J. H.

We had Pattacakes Tea Rooms recommended to us a couple of weeks back, finally got there today, top notch it was too! Wife had the nicest main, bubble and squeak, but its like no bubble and squeak I've ever had, divine! Cake wise I declare my own choice as best a solid slice of Pecan and caramel tart with cream !
Anyway, its located in the tiny village of Welburn, top of Whitwell Hill, just off the A64 West of Malton

The team at Dogh do a phenomenal job, offering a 5 star personal service, whether dropping in for a quick takeout coffee pick-me-up or wanting a relaxing lunch with friends as a stop off during a walk in the surrounding Howardian Hills. The food is made and served with love...
There is a great selection of freshly home made cakes and treats; we've tried many and have loved them all but the custard tarts and rocky road are firm favourites! The menu offers the usual suspects and caters for all needs, I personally enjoy the Welsh rarebit (with Stewart's secret recipe!) and the platters are delicious as well as the takeout pizzas for a weekend treat.
The small shop is also a hidden gem, packed with a selection of lovely gift ideas, freshly baked breads, deli cheeses and meats, and other foodie delights.
This is so much more than a coffee shop and well worth a visit next time you are passing!
