Honestly I would move to York just for this beautiful cafe, its beautiful and historic from the outside right on the Shambles, the view of cakes freshly baked in the window to tempt you. I'll admit its a lil cramped but it's old historic buildings, its expected, sadly you wouldn't be able to get upstairs if you're in a wheelchair and I'm doubtful of any downstairs seating though I could be wrong, there's a singular toilet on the top floor also, but the cakes are so good you should definitely try and get one if you can. I sat on the top floor overlooking the Shambles markets and shoppers as I enjoyed a hot fruit Scone with cream and jam... Honestly it was so peaceful, you could feel and enjoy the history. I'm returning again on Halloween weekend and I'll hope to sit in that window again and live in that moment once more. The Scone is the best I've ever had, soft, rich, not too sweet. Delightful.

A quaint spot in Shambles, York especially if your sitting near the window overlooking the Shamble market place. Love the scones, it’s simply divine with delicious jam and clotted cream, baked to perfection and all homemade. A must to visit when your in York.

A delightful little 'Scone-house' with a myriad of flavoured scones, preserves, chutneys and teas I'd recommend to anyone wanting a quintessential British treat done exceptionally well. I had the blueberry and lemon scone with clotted cream and lemon curd and safe to say I'll happily be getting that again. Also amazingly for food waste, you can buy 'yesterday's scones' for a ridiculously good mark-down and they're still scrumptious. 100% recommend (it's also a beautiful little place inside to boot).

The are easily the best in the city, made in house each morning, and have never wavered once in quality over our dozens of visits. The service is excellent, welcoming, and prompt and the building is beautiful to boot. Get the traditional with jam and cream with a pot of Yorkshire tea and then realize you're never going anywhere else in York for tea.

The best scone I've ever had — and one of the best deals; for £6, have a delicious scone with a jam or chutney, and a cup of tea or coffee. It's a beautiful building in The Shambles and we enjoyed sitting and overlooking the market as we ate. Staff were really friendly and sweet. 🥰

Cute and quaint, just off the Shambles serving fabulous tea, coffee and scones! They have a large range of interesting scones, we tried the double chocolate and date & walnut varieties-- both were delicious! Service was a highlight, the staff were discretely attentive and always happy to help. I can't recommend this place enough!

We had the bacon and brie and the ham and cheese sandwiches and they were both extremely tasty. There are two levels of seating and the entire restaurant is clean, comfortable and very well decorated. We also had the high tea as well as the scone sticks with hot chocolate. Everything was excellent, including the service. The bread they use is made across the road at the Bluebird Bakery and is superb. We bought jars of apricot and passion fruit preserve and tomato chutney when we left because they were so delicious.

Giving this 5 stars as the scone was so delicious, served warm with cream and jam and it was also great that they called us when they had a table free as they were full up when we first arrived. It's in an old, characterful building, right by The Shambles. We loved sitting upstairs looking out over the market. The service was a little haphazard as they brought an extra drink we hadn't ordered and also forgot the milk for our tea, but can't moan because the scones are soooo good! The brownies also look very tempting.

Definitely worth a visit, even if you’re not a scone lover the scones here will blow your mind. Friendly staff who are willing to answer questions about the menu and make recommendations. We had a cheese scone and a fruit scone, with a pot of Assam tea and a hot chocolate. The scones were large, soft and warm - perfect for a wet and windy day. The savoury scones are served with cream cheese and a choice of chutney. I had the autumn spiced chutney, which was nice alone and with the scone, but not great with the cream cheese. It would definitely go better with a cheddar. If I go next time, I'd try the chilli jam (which usually goes well with cream cheese) or just have the scone with cream cheese and no chutney.

Scones are absolutely delicious, you must try the melted cheese and tomato chutney it's to die for. Coffees are really tasty also. Only slight negative it's a bit cramped. Bur you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely delicious, freshly baked scones and cakes. I've never seen cheese scones quite like they do them here! Real loose-leaf tea served in cast iron pots. Everything was so beautifully presented and in a fabulous setting, overlooking The Shambles. Staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The online booking system was smooth and easy. Best scone I’ve ever had! I tried the raspberry and coconut vegan scone but with normal clotted cream and jam. It was so good I had to takeaway another one! I also bought a blueberry & lemon scone to takeaway and that was fantastic also. The staff were very attentive and nice. The building itself was also lovely! Definitely a nice experience.

For the quirkiness and amusement this is definitely a place to visit, as I felt tired just watching the staff running up and down the stairs with people's orders, clearing tables and showing customers to their tables. It is not a disability friendly place to get a brew and a bite to eat at, but if your able to venture up the stairs as I did with the help of my wife, then I feel it is worthwhile. The drinks we had, tea and massala latte, were fine and at a reasonable price. Very cosy place indeed.

We had cream tea which was very nice. But in covid times, as the rooms a quite small, the tables are quite close together which may not be to some peoples liking. All staff did where masks and table were properly cleaned between customers.

I recently visited Parlormade cafe with friends and family and we had a great time. It's in a beautiful location - the shambles. The building itself has a lot of unique characteristics and features... Good choices in the menu. The scones are really delicious and freshly baked, possibly the nicest I have had in York. The homemade jams are very good especially the apricot and passion fruit and strawberry, we ended up ordering two portions. The atmosphere is very cozy with some beautiful colour scheme and decorations. The staff members are friendly and I would highly recommend this place.
