Reviews of The Earl Grey Tearooms

Shambles is extremely busy touristic street, so we're lucky to find a place here. We were looking for a tea room nearby the Minster, so Google Map brought us here. Waited 10 mins to get seated. Great afternoon tea experience, lovely garden and indoor seating. Classic good looking high tea for 17 GBP is recommended. Scones and cakes are fresh and tasty. You get an extra pot of hot water to refill your tea. I could order just a side dish mashed potatoes or jacket potato for kids. There are also salads. Would be hard however to move on a wheelchair, narrow passage, step access to the garden. Kids friendly. No vegan desserts.

Lovely quaint place . Toilets upstairs . Room upstairs with more tables. Friendly staff. Very busy when we went. 3 of us ordered ploughman’s Salad they forgot the cheeses and had to make extra trip to us. They were very apologetic about this. Forgot my friends spoon for her soup and butter for the bread. If they checked the orders they could make their lives much easier . Prices ££. Food was very nice worth waiting for. Some lovely cakes but unfortunately we couldn’t eat any. Yes I would go back again but not on a Saturday lunchtime as they found it hard to cope .

We are coming almost every year from Greece, and we are visiting York just to enjoy the afternoon tea in this place. It is very beautiful, the staff is very friendly and the food is excellent, whatever you will order. If you are there, don't miss it!

We were recommended this place by a shop on the Shambles, we were not disappointed. The scones came out warmed and seemed freshly made, I asked staff if they were fresh but was told that they were not. My partner ordered a jacket potato which they said was delicious, as was my cream tea. 10/10 would definitely recommend the Earl Grey tea rooms and will return in the future.

Excellent food anxld very friendly staff.
Very nice outdoor area to rear.
Look out for the range of 'specials' on the chalkboard as you walk in.

Friendly and helpful staff. We had the garlic mushroom pancakes from the specials menu which were delicious, and their own crunchy coleslaw was gorgeous. Very reasonable prices for the centre of York and good sized portions.

Sometimes the 'hidden gem' in reviews is much of an exaggeration. In this case it is perhaps not a gem, but it is a hidden garden, nice and quiet in the middle of touristic York. Teas are great

Lovely outdoor rear courtyard garden, cracking cakes (toasted cheese scone!!) and really friendly staff. Made for a well needed escape from the busier areas, was a very welcome oasis in the busy Shambles.
