Reviews of The Perky Peacock

Super cute cafe in the dungeon of this beautiful tower by the river. The day that we went it was snowing quite randomly and we had the entire place to ourselves.
It's really cute and cozy decor. Service is really friendly. The one thing I found was that portions were really small. We ordered soup and the bowls were only half filled. Though I may have only felt this way because I thought the soup was absolutely delicious and I was freezing and it was perfect on that cold day!
We also got tea and hot chocolate which absolutely hit the spot. I highly recommend this adorable little cafe overlooking the water.

On our last day in York we had some time to spare whilst we waited for the train 🚆 and we come across this quaint little restaurant in one of the old Bridge towers. The staff were wonderful and the food was delicious they can definitely make a decent martini 🍸 this was a perfect end to our little break. The outside seating 💺 area is lovely in the hot weather next to the waterfront. Thank you once again.

Great location down by the river. Friendly, smiley staff. The oat milk iced chai latte was lovely as was my smoked salmon bagel. Dog friendly too and they sell doggy ice cream, which my pug managed to demolish in less than ten minutes 😅

This is a lovely place to have a drink and a bite to eat. The staff are friendly and the food was lovely. The scenery was amazing looking at the river it's beautiful.

I’ve lived in York now for four years, and whenever I walked over Lendal bridge I was always curious to try this wonderful looking place but time was always against me.
Thankfully, on a dog walk by the river on a fine late Sunday afternoon I finally had the time to call in- and I was so glad I did! A thoroughly warm welcome from Richard, Tilly my elderly greyhound was well catered for too as I myself enjoyed a fine Aperol spritzer in the late afternoon sun by the river.
A beautiful historic tower in a tranquil setting, with all the bustle of the city happening above. Just perfect. I’m now going to make this a regular stop on my early morning dog walk before I start work.
Thanks again Richard, we’ll look forward to seeing you again!

Pros:
Nice location.
Friendly staff.
Cons: Food wasn’t great and a bit expensive for the quality you get.
On google it says that they open at 7am which isn’t accurate. I was there at 7:10 on a Tuesday and the place was still closed. I had to return after 10.
I ordered avocado on toast. The bread was so overdone that one of the slices was like a brick- I couldn’t cut it! The other slice was too black in some parts. The tomato chutney on the avocado was acceptable.
The avocado was great but overall the dish not good enough for £8.
I wouldn’t recommend.
L. M.
Absolutely wonderful , kind and genuine service . Food and coffee is delicious ( particularly their in house baked cakes !) Lovely location as you can sit by the river and inside is quaint and homely. 100% recommend !

It was a very hot afternoon in York and we noticed the advert board for doggie ice cream. Our dog really needed refreshment and we did too, so just popped in here for a couple of glasses of wine, some water and a dog ice cream. Lovely little cafe with some inside seating and tables outside too. We will go back. Our dog Ruby really enjoyed the ice cream. Thanks

5 stars aren’t enough! Everything about Perky Peacock is just excellent. The best coffee I have tried in York, tasty bites and also good choice of alcoholic drinks. It is located in a beautiful historical building and the atmosphere there is well kept by the matching decor. The choice of seating varies from outside just by the river, dungeon cosy and good for a moment of pece, and upstairs with great music and a bit more hustle. And the best part is the staff. The owners’ attitude can be felt in the air and all the employees are far beyond kind. I am a local and have tried plenty of cafes in York and this is my absolute favourite one! Thank you to the amazing people working there <3

Went to Perky Peacock a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. This week on holiday we returned to find new owners who were very welcoming. With a larger menu and now serving wines it was better than ever. Had a lovely lunch by the river and will certainly make it a favourite in future
A. W.
I love this cafe. Great food, great service and reasonable prices. Delicious cakes, especially the carrot cake. Great coffee. I had green tea today and it was lovely.
Great location too overlooking the river next to Lendal Bridge.
P. T.
Lovely atmospheric place, staff are very friendly and can’t do enough for you. All the food and drinks we ordered were well presented and fab quality, so good in fact we visited 4 times during our 5 day break.
My wife loved feeding the geese 🫣
Will be back on our next visit to York.
A. B.
Visited this lovely gem of a cafe on a recent trip to York. Lucky enough to find a table next to the river outside . Friendly staff and quick service. Would recommend the lemon cake and carrot cake slice and if you like a good strong yorkshire tea, this is the place! Will definitely go again. .
L. O.
Sitting outside on the river bank is such a beautiful experience!
Great coffee, pastries and toasties and lovely staff!
V. A.
This cosy cafe is in a unique location and has very interesting interiors (it’s a listed building). We stumbled upon it quite by chance and somehow got the entire downstairs ‘dungeon’ to ourselves. The ‘dungeon’ was warm and quiet with only the faint sounds of water lapping against the building - simply magical.
The hot drinks and breakfast items we had were excellent (we struggled to finish the food due to the portion size!). The service was spot on as well.
Highly recommend without hesitation.
M. A. W.
We love! Charming place close to the center of York and inside a historic tower... Our flat white was perfect!
A. D.
Nice place overall... fairly priced - had nice cakes when we went. Coffee is pretty average.
Atmosphere's nice and staff are very friendly we liked the service.
K. S.
We had a work lunch at The Perky Peacock and it was great! The food was lovely, the venue was fantastic and the hosts and waitresses were very welcoming and could not do enough for us - I would recommend this cafe to all! Thanks guys you did us proud
N. B.
Quite possibly the best cappuccino of my life. Worth a visit if your in York!
T. M.
Had a lovely time here this morning. Great food and coffee, really cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Fantastic location too
A. J.
Out for a cycle ride along the lovely river Ouse and came across this fabulous cafe. Great location and delicious freshly made sandwiches with special thanks to Naomi for the outstanding raspberry ripple cake, it was amazing thank you
M. S.
Such a unique, cool location. Our food (a Rolo cookie dough pie slice and a Nutella cookie) were both terrific and the staff were lovely and welcoming.
b. (. p.
Amazing stuff. Beautiful view. Very tasty cake. Good Coffie. What else you need? Nothing. Just visit ❤️❤️❤️
M. G. B.
Lovely place on the river side
The staff was really nice and friendly, we ordered coffee, which was really good and an scone and a sausage roll, both of them wete home made and incredible good.
The location can’t be better we been siting outside under the shade of the bridge, with a lovely view, but the coffee shop is really cosy as well.
I totally recommend, it is a must if u like coffee and u are in York.
A. T.
Absolutely lovely little cafe at the side of the river, very Quirky and unique, lovely staff and absolutely amazing service and food!
My regular go to for a cuppa and a brownie :)
W. H.
Don't get me wrong - this is a 5-star rated only for the sausage roll - literally THE BEST one I've ever had in my life. Coffee is good too (one of the nicer one I had during my roadtrip from liverpool and edinburgh). However, place is very small altho located really by the river with nice view. Service and cleanliness are a quite bad (but staffs are very friendly) - dirty tables not being cleaned right away.
I. W.
Excellent little stop off hot drink and toasted Teacake while watching the boats on the river and people going by 2 hot drinks and 2x teacakes £10 not bad for York
T.
Came here early morning as nowhere else seemed to be open about 8am. Great little coffee shop right on the waterfront, reasonably priced. Wasn't too busy so relatively quick service. Only reason for 4 stars the milk jar I recieved for my coffee looked extremely dirty like it hadn't been washed, can't complain otherwise. Lovely bacon sandwich and coffee. If your walking by its a great place to call and have a sit down.
T. L.
Came here for a takeaway hot chocolate before my walk along the river and it was gorgeous. Its a beautiful coffee shop, next time i will defintely sit in and order food as it all looked great. Lovely staff, its dog friendly too. My hot chocolate was absolutely lush too. They have a few seats outside too which is perfect for those sunny days!
A. S.
Lovely quaint and cosy place for a coffee or lunch. Friendly staff, only concern is the lack of toilets.
J. K.
Beautiful coffee and cake delicious the lemon and blueberry. Staff fantastic Beautiful setting. Definitely coming back
P.
This is a excellent quirky coffee shop below Lendal Bridge ,close to the maltings pub ....... Great drinks and food. We had half litre of Sangria which was great and good value... very helpful staff .
G. P.
Lovely little spot or more accurately a suntrap. Moving up into the bar this is a cosy place which feels as though once entered you do not want to leave . We didn't eat today but had two Pims Cocktails - a fantastic drink with plenty of fruit. With a few other additions it could become the ,"Perky Peacock Pims". Great place, look forward to coming back
Geoff
T. S.
Stopped in for lunch which was quite tasty but then got a chai tea latte to go and that was absolutely delightful..so tasty that I returned a few hours later for another one! I'll be stopping here again if I ever return to York!
S. M.
Great coffee and places to sit inside or outside. They have breakfast food like porridge and toasts with jams or avocado. They also have sandwiches and cakes for lunch. A good spot to have a quick bite in or grab a takeaway. Easy location at Lendal Bridge to stop at as well on the way to/from the city centre and train station.
P. T.
Unique !
Ideally situated. Lovely food. Friendly staff. Competitive prices.
Highly recommend. Thank you ladies.
M. P.
Good food and friendly staff. We had a table overlooking the river which was very nice.
C. B.
I had a blt and a chai latte, they were both very good. It was a bit pricey but the fare was great and it was worth it to eat inside of a medieval watch tower
G. M.
Small, quiet, cozy coffee shop with a relaxing atmosphere. Charming building, tasty hot drinks, kind staff and reasonable prices. There are books to let as well. In short, lovely, highly recommendable place.
N. W.
Stumbled upon this unique and quaint cafe when following the York City Walls walk. At first it seemed to be no seating available but then found out they had more space downstairs in the 'dungeon'. Had a really large mug of tea and an equally large slice of lemon cake! It was really nice and lovely setting in the dungeon looking out over the river. Highly recommend a visit.
P. W.
Lovely location. Good food. Good service. Would have liked more choice of food on menu
K. C.
Amazing service, beautiful location and lovely food. Thank you for having us.
D. C.
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and tasty coffee! Highly recommend a visit.
I. S.
Both service and coffee were good. We were made to feel welcome; and the building is of historic interest - it seems to be part of the great walls of York. It's quirky, a round turret-shaped building with outside as well as inside seating.
G. P.
I can't help but swing by the Perky Peacock every time I pass through York. The owners are so lovely and welcoming and it's such a quirky setting. Only recently discovered they have loads of sensational wines too
m. s.
Lovely location, good drinks, cheerful staff, quite pricey. No loos!
H. R.
Lovely little find. The staff are friendly and happy. I had about an hour to kill between arriving in York and my next travel arrangement. So glad I picked this spot. The venue is a short distance from the train station and next to the river. Great view, great coffee and scones. Thank you.
S. B.
Second time visiting the Perky Peacock and loved it again, coffee and a toastie by the river was a perfect pit stop between shopping. We will be back next time we are in York.
m. b.
Called in for breakfast before our train, first in and had breakfast.
A great venue, hosts were lovely, and had a lovely chat over afew coffees!
Bacon and snorkers with sourdough was spot on!
Z. W.
Lovely little tea room opened early for customers. Lovely scenic view right next to the river. Friendly welcoming service.
J. D.
Cool place to visit inside part of the York Wall. Small and warm inside during the summer with minimal chairs outside. Standard coffee fare.
J. M.
Perfect morning coffee with a sweet treat.
Staff are fantastic and view is gorgeous.
A. Š.
Great coffee&cake in a magical tiny hidden spot. Super nice staff and lovely atmosphere.
E. B.
Popped in last week as I was showing a family member around the city. A wonderful friendly greeting by one of the staff members and we sat outside for our latte's and cakes. The homemade cakes are absolutely awesome 👌 I had a white chocolate tiffin cake and my family member a coconut and lime, they were both exquisite and it was such a relaxing spot to sit by the river and take a load off. Thanks so much for great customer service with a smile and yummy cakes! Highly recommended 👍
s. m.
It is a hidden gem in york. Very cozy cafe. Amazing coffee. They also have a lovely selection of cakes and sandwiches..
A. G.
Very nice. A decent cup of tea!!😁
l. k.
Writing from inside! This is one of the loveliest cafes I’ve ever been in. The staff is so sweet & everything seems so delicious. Wish I could take this adorable place home on the train with me.
J. R.
Possibly the tiniest & cosiest café in York. Situated in a tower by the bridge over the Ouse its unique surroundings make for a fab place to stop of for a coffee and a quick bite to eat.
A. B.
We were in York for a couple of days, and we came across this quirky little cafe, while walking the walls of York on an extremely wet day, and were delighted by our find. Beautifully cosy and unique, and served by a friendly man, possibly owner, who wasn't at all put off by our very wet state! We finished the walls by the way, wasn't going to be deterred by the rain!!
C. D.
Lovely Latte. Great location with seats on the river bank.
L. R.
Delicious bacon sarnie and lovely friendly staff. Even my dog got the 5* treatment
J. O.
What’s not to love about the Perky Peacock? Great, friendly service; tasty food; excellent tea and coffee; all in a medieval tower. Perfect!
H. M.
Great cafe! The avocado on toast was perfection and good coffee.
M. C.
Great quirky little cafe/bar with lots of extra outside seating by the river. Super friendly service and the Baileys late was just was I needed to finally rid myself of a lingering hangover after a walk around the city walls.
A. F. (.
Very warm and welcome place! We first came to York with my partner and started from this place. Dogs allowed, welcome stuff, it’s been a pleasure to visit place such as this one.
A. J.
One of my favorites! We always make sure to make time to swing by for food or a coffee before a jaunt around the river!
Simple things like the host moving a table for us today so we could have a nice view of the river while we ate make it such a nice place to visit!
So happy this place made it through the lockdown! Will be returning as soon as we're back in the city!
C. P.
I love this place! The interior is stunning - it's like sitting in history! - and the drinks and food are really tasty. The atmosphere is honestly brilliant. We can't wait to go back.
C. M.
This little coffee shop is in a tiny tower off Lendal Bridge. The atmosphere was nice but the coffees were very slow to arrive and I had to go to the counter to ask for milk. Maybe a bit overpriced for a small coffee.
m. b.
This was our 4th visit to the Perky Peacock. Always very happy with the food and service not to mention the view of the river BUT on this occasion the food was very disappointing.
The order amounted to the following
1) Brie on soda bread (no bacon wanted) 30pence extra charged for the soda bread .
2) Tuna & mayo on two slices of white bread. Both served with a few crisps.
Two coffees.
Total cost £19.00
Past meals have been served with a small salad making a reasonable meal but on this occasion considering the cost the quantity was inadequate.
What has changed?
M. S.
Lovely food lovely staff and they let me perform as Elvis 🕺
W. C.
One of the best quirky places to get a coffee ☕ or snack.
L. S.
Lovely staff but expensive would definitely recommend nice area near the river
b. c. a.
Great location and environment in a converted medieval tower. Good coffee and cake was delicious. I am looking forward to sample more
H. G.
Great little place for breakfast - lovely coffee and good quality ingredients x
R. T.
Nice quaint coffee house serving very good coffee and interesting selection of cakes and sandwiches. However the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired with little attention to hand washing even after one of the severs had stroked and fed a dog! And yes they allow dogs in... During these times, hygiene should be a top priority which is definitely not the case here.
D. C.
Breakfast hipster style.
Good coffee and sour dough served 4 ways.
Cosy (only 5 tables inside)
B.
Great wee cafe on the waterfront, really nice food. Great place for breakfast before walking the wall. The servers were polite, prompt and well presented.
J. G.
Great location and lovely little cafe, coffee was better than most places. However, the hot chocolate was extortionately priced and just tasted of milk with a hint of chocolate
P. P.
I love this place! Great coffee and avocado toasts too!
K. C.
Lovely little spot by the river to enjoy a coffee break. Best dirty chai latte I’ve ever had!
R. S.
This is my favourite coffee shop in York and as a local I have tried most of them. The coffee is excellent, the cakes and snacks they do are locally sourced. The tower and been setup to give a nice cosy feel, the basement is now open and it is nice and quiet if you time it right.
n. c.
Lovely little coffee and cake cafe, right next to the river. They also do fantastic looking sandwiches with all sorts of fillings in wedges of fresh bread. If if it's a dry day then you can sit outside on there querky tables and chairs under the arches and on the cobbled street. If it's wet then then you might struggle to get a seat inside but if you can you won't be disappointed. Sitting inside the medieval Postern Tower. Staff were very nice and helpful which tops off a nice pit stop from walking the wall.

S. K.
Lovely little place on the river! Staff super friendly, good delicious... what's not to love 🙂
B. M.
Nice coffee in lovely setting overlooking the river.
H. M.
Absolutely lovely, and tasty snacks of the healthy sort. Tourists be advised: No toilet, if you're in need, do that first. ;)
M. -. H. G.
As of right now, my all time favorite coffee shop anywhere in the world. Tucked away by the bridge next to the river, it invites one to cozy in and partake of homemade goodness and an amazing brew. The staff are welcoming and rainy days bring you in where books, sofa and delightful conversation awaits. All while savoring an artisan bread sandwich for lunch or a lovely breakfast porridge. If you wish to be sun kissed on those days it chooses to shine, there is a small patio (two tables for two) at the top of the stairs and more seating at the base by the river. I've made York part of my travels multiple times and this cafe is one of the main reasons. It just is everything I love in a cafe [add a mellow musician (though I don't know where they would perch) and I don't think I would ever leave]❤ Thank you for your magic, Perky Peacock.
P. S.
A great little cafe inside Barker tower and one of our go to places when we visit York. I had the hipster Bacon Sandwich recently and it was excellent as was the coffee. It would be hard to find a more historic place to have take the weight off your feet. There is outdoor seating for milder weather or the hardy coffee drinker in winter, the interior seating is cosy.
C. R. O.
Really great spot -- regret not trying it out sooner! staff are so friendly, and the food was delicious and served quickly despite how busy they were. had a coffee afterwards and that was amazing, too. the folks here really work their socks off to make sure you have a good experience!
J. A. (.
Excellent service & food was delicious . Would highly recommend
T. P.
Went for morning coffee and couldn't resist the sweet treats on offer, fabulous home made carrot cake. Such a special place to get refreshments in this cozy tower rather than the big brand stores. Family run and super friendly and the coffee was amazing! Great views of the boats going by too!
J. P.
Amazing and attentive staff, made the visit worth it 🙏🏼
Very nice and cozy place, would definitely come back.
P. M.
What a great find in a very unexpected place. Taking advantage of a nice day. Me and my pooch took a trip into town to find ice cream. Right at the end of the walk we came across The Perky Peacock. And guess what?? Ice cream for me and specific ice cream for the pooch 👍👌. Mum happy, I didn't have to share and the pooch had stomach friendly ice cream. What more could you ask for at the end of a walk.
P. K.
Lovely friendly coffee shop in an ancient tower by the river in York. Only a couple of tables inside but lots outside with great views
D. H.
My favourite coffee shop in York. The cappuccino is good, the caramel apple pie is just wonderful, and you can enjoy the river view in the morning. You can also stay inside and enjoying the warm and cosy tower with smell of fresh coffee
S. K.
Amazing place, good healthy options to eat, horrible coffee!
V. V. G.
Really love this independent coffee shop - great coffee and atmosphere. I always make sure to go in my work breaks. Made a special effort today to go, having been working from home. Catching up with the owners is always lovely.
L. M.
Very cute place to sit and while away time.
B. C.
This is the cutest little coffee shop. Right on the river and very cozy. An ideal stop in the middle of the day.
A. G.
We had a nice little breakfast just before leaving town. There was a small seating area outside, but the interior was in the re-purposed end of a bridge. The tea was perfect, and the atmosphere was cozy and historic. Lots of locals stopped by for tea and coffee, which is always nice to see.
C. C.
Went in for a coffee, tiny little unique coffee shop. Very busy, staff were lovely.
E. W.
The atmosphere was great the staff were lovely, I admit I did have a wait on my drink however the staff kindly apologized for the wait. It was definitely worth it though. The hot chocolate is 😗👌 and rocky road, filling but really nice, had a really nice time there would definitely go back again. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A. K.
Delicious sausages rolls, great building and interior,, and they still opened, despite their downstairs flooded by the river. The coffee is meh (hence 4 stars), but I'm American and struggle to find good coffee in England.
J. W.
A small and cosy shop near the river. I like hanging out here to read some books as well as hanging out with some of my friends. The coffee is great in general and the staff are very friendly. I also like their pastries though I don't always order them. Place is very comfortable too
T. S.
Like others before me, I found the staff very friendly. Nice menu - I chose avocado on toast and enjoyed. Didn't try inside, luckily the weather allowed Al fresco dining.
D. F.
A lovely coffee shop next to the river. Lovely coffee and setting.
S. B.
Sincere apologies for my previous review.. I got my location incorrect..
K. M.
Great cafe right by the river with lovely staff and delicious coffee. The cakes looked great, shame I'm on a diet!
A. B.
Fantastic location, right in the centre of York but pity the coffee was not particularly good.
Breakfast options were decent, and service was very friendly.
J. C. (.
Just perfect. Sit outside in the sunshine by the river or cosy up on the sofa inside. Really great espresso that's bursting with flavour. Also a good selection of cakes sandwiches and salads. Friendly staff make for a really relaxed visit.
L. H.
I met my fiancee here and we sat chatting for hours ordering more coffees and cake. It has a very relaxing atmosphere, especially if the weather is nice and you can sit outside by the river. We have returned quite often usually on the anniversary of our meeting. Definitely recommend it.
C. D.
Karen is a welcoming and genuine person who runs a quaint and delightful coffee shop in a beautiful medieval tower .
The coffee is fantastic and just as warm as the welcome .
C. M.
A delightful location. Seems to have lost focus recently. Orders often incorrect and items forgotten. Coffee whilst still good is no longer great. Hopefully a glitch.
M. H.
I came here 2 years ago and had the best hot chocolate ever. However, they just use powdered chocolate now for the same price. Nice atmosphere but not toilets because it’s a listed building.
S. B.
Though there is very limited seating its always so warm and welcoming I just have to grab a coffee in here whenever I'm town. The food is very good - highly recommend the chilli jam with the avo on toast - and the tray bakes are sublime. Its a very quirky and very "York" building. A must stop for a coffee in York.
P. O.
Really friendly staff and the hot chocolate was really great. Beautiful view over museum gardens
I. E.
A nice quirky coffee shop with limited seating for a quick bite to eat. Quite a lot of the trade was for take out coffee and you can see why; I had a filter coffee (choice of Aeropress or V60) and the flavour was delightful; rich and smooth - perfect! Tasty bacon sandwich to complement set us up for the day. Friendly barista, thanks!
S. L.
A lovely local run cafe. Builders bacon sandwich and beef stroganoff soup was well cooked and just so needed on a chilly day. Staff very friendly in adorable surroundings.
Well worth the visit.
K. S.
What an amazing location! It's a small shop right off the river in a beautiful tower. Good pastries and even better coffee. Aeropress and v60 available upon request. Friendly and helpful staff. Stop by for a cup.
H. M.
Coffee is sooo good! Really cute place too
I. L.
Aweseome place! Really cozy and tasty chocolate! A must if you come to york with freezing cold.
S. H.
Lovely toasted bacon sandwich and latte, sat by the Riverside in the morning sun really lovely quirky cafe, friendly staff and great service.
M. P.
Very helpful and has great food. Would come again
K. P.
Perky peacock is a little coffee shop tucked away under a bridge over the river. We had two lovely toasted sandwiches ( brie and tomato & chicken and bacon) served with salad and two latte's. Really nice location sat outside next to the river. There are some tables inside if the weather not good. Well worth a visit.
R. W.
Great little place and friendly staff. Great food and ideal stop on way into town from the station.
T. G.
Very friendly team, excellent sandwiches. Brie and bacon a real winner. Coffee very strong which I love but may not be for all. Lovely setting. 5 stars.
S. K.
Great coffee in a lovely old building. If you're walking the York city walls or near the train station you should call in. Much better coffee than what's on offer at the station, and only a few minutes walk away by the river.
S. B.
One of the best coffee shops I've been in anywhere
P. C.
Great staff and food in a unique and quirky location.
H. W.
Cool place, good coffee too! A little small, you may have to wait for seats but definitely worth a look in! Great if you’re taking away.
D. L.
We enjoyed a nice lunch here - bacon sandwiches were incredible but vegan option was slightly underwhelming. The main appeal is being in a historic tower over the river - the downside of this is the lack of loos.
n. h.
A great little spot for coffee.
D. E.
WOW WOW WOW 😎
A special place for coffee ☕ and something to eat. Very historic, next to the river just off Lendal Bridge 🌉
J. M.
Such a lovely little place for a quick coffee/snack and a catch up. The staff are always attentive and friendly and make the place just that much nicer. One of my favourites. :-)
P. B.
Lovely surroundings, friendly staff, excellent coffee and a superb breakfast.
E. O. (. n.
Went in lockdown. Good brunch, good coffee, exceptional staff. Noticed that one of them seemed to know regular customers by name (although don't ask him what coffee he personally drinks).
H. D.
The Perky Peacock is a hidden jewel located beneath Lendal bridge and often missed by visitors to York. A favourite with the local rowing club, the Perky Peacock offers a selection of sandwiches, cakes, teas and coffees. Although, the coffee shop may appear small it is surprisingly spacious on the inside and offers outside seating as well. The coffee shop supports local artists and you will note some lovely drawings and pictures dotted across the wall of the shop which are available for purchase. I highly recommend the chai latte and ‘toddler approved’ toasted cheese bread.
L. M.
A unique location for a coffee but limited access (narrow stairs to tower) and small inside
S. D. C.
Easily one of the best ham and cheese toasties I've had. Great food, drinks made with care and attention. Quaint and cosy little place perched on the river. We didn't want to leave.
M.
Always great barista coffee and now with pleasant outdoor seating with river views.
D. E.
Quant, unusual, very small and makes a lovely cup of tea. I think if they had 20 customers, it would packed fit to burst. Definitely worth a visit.
J. B.
Lovely shop with friendly staff and excellent coffee. I love that you can order filter or aero press coffee in addition to espresso drinks.
Comfy furnishings as well, could cozy up here all day
N. H.
Quirky and friendly. Food very rustic, tasty and reasonable prices.
L. B.
A hidden gem. Quite small right on the river. Good selection of vegan and vegetarian options as well as builders bacon butties! Dog friendly too.
T. K.
Wow, what a lovely little place. Home cooked cakes and really quirky! Not too many seats inside so you would be lucky to get a seat on a rainy day, but well worth taking the chance.
S. R.
Think they put up prices because of Covid-19. My usual sandwich went up about £2 to £3. To take out. I wont be returning. Shame because nice vegan food.
P. D.
Loved it. Definitely coming back for more coffee and carrot cake ☺️
T. A.
Best hot chocolate everrrr! Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. I ordered the bagel and that was delicious, the tomato soup was very warming as well.
i. I. (.
Top tasting coffee and presented very well . Kids loved the local food (sausage roll ) so did I :) will visit again. Small but prefect for a quick pit stop.
C. S.
Really good location when it's sunny. Lots of vegan options too. Vanilla Latte was a hit.
I. C.
Super cozy coffeeshop in a superb location, near the walls of York, in a small turret above the water. The coffee was smooth and delicate, one of the best places in York!

A bit crowded in the morning though
K. O.
A great coffee place. Lovely atmosphere if you are able to sit inside. Not too many places to sit but on a warm day just take your coffee and cake and sit by the river.
D. L.
Fun small place for coffee really interesting and different. Didn't have any came but it looked really tasty. As it's an old building beware it does not have toilets!!
A. Q.
Only gave this 3 stars because there was no toilets as it was an old building. Food and coffee was nice though! I would go again but not when I need the toilet! Lol
R. V.
Really great quality food and drink with a nice and cozy atmosphere, if it's a rainy day dont have too high of hopes for sitting inside as the seating is limited. A little pricey but you get what you pay for in quality

Dropped in here for a bite to eat and a cuppa while walking along the riverside. A few tables with views of the river, this was a pretty relaxing place to spend an hour watching the boats and people go by. Surprised that its opening time was only to 4pm on a lovely sunny, busy day.
Beer was reasonably priced and the tables were being cleared and cleaned regularly. Only a few minutes walk from the railway station and city centre.
Worth stopping at.
G. F.
Really nice atmosphere

(Translated) It's delicious, it's a mysterious restaurant that looks tasteless but tastes good.
It's like a place where Hagrid is going to do something.
It was so good to open it early in the morning.

(Translated) Excellent coffee !! -but not very GF or Veg milks friendly.
Gluten options apparently are good (said by my partner), -the bread is from their own bakery.
The location overviewing the river is excelent and staff is very friendly.
The coffee is great! Of course, they have very few gluten-free options (2 when I went), but my partner really enjoyed his avocado and bacon sandwich. (They have own ovens for bread)
The situation is very good overlooking the river and if it is cold inside it is also very cozy.
