The shop is so great, packed from floor to ceiling on every wall with countless games. With a huge amount of variation there really is something for everyone here. And with you ever helpful shop assistant who appears to know every game inside out and within just a short conversation can recommend several vastly different games to suit you best! Cannot rate this place enough, joyful shopping experience and always leave with a box of wonders.

Rules of play has been around for a few years now and has continued to show why it is Cardiff board game shop of choice they support a large range of customers of all ages and are very polite the shop is clean clearly laid out and has a very nice vibe to it. The location is also fantastic as the market and anything you might wish is just around the corner where you to stay here for one of their events

Rules of Play is great. It has one of the largest variety of games I've seen and unlike so many game shops that resemble the dank dungeons so common in the games themselves, RoP is both bright and tidy (in both the English and Welsh senses). I only spent a few minutes there but it would have been easy for me to browse for hours. The shop is nice, the prices are good, and the staff -- well, the young woman I spoke to on my brief visit at least -- are knowledgeable and friendly. I wish this shop wasn't 140 miles away from me!

I can't praise this place enough. The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable - all gamers themselves. They are great at game recommendations and I never go away feeling disappointed. They put up with me and baby hanging about for no reason other than a chat. The only downside is that sometimes they're a little too good at upselling for my wallet!

What a wonderful shop to stumble across. Normally when shopping for games, it feels like we have to trawl through the usual supermarket shelf-fillers to find the decent games. In contrast, this hidden gem is bursting at the seams with incredible games to appeal to fantasy and family gamers alike. Never before have I popped into the same shop three times in one afternoon to buy more items – but this place has a certain magnetism that kept me coming back. The owner was friendly and extremely knowledgeable, offering helpful advice when asked without any hint of agenda to up-sell etc. Next time I'm in Cardiff, I shall be visiting again!

I knew Rules of Play existed but I didn't actually intend on visiting. While on a day out with my son in Cardiff I spotted an ice cream shop. After sitting outside to eat our ice cream I noticed the sign for Rules of Play, as we were that close it would have been silly not to drop in for a look. Certainly not the biggest game shop I have been in but the range they stock was spot on. It was a breath of fresh air to see somewhere catering for such a wide range of gamer. The only problem I had was narrowing down the what I wanted to buy. However this was helped along by the guy working there Dyfed. Dyfed was really friendly and very knowledgeable about the games we asked him about. Not only knowledgeable, but passionate too. You could really tell that he enjoyed games and gaming. Dyfed guided and advised us to or final purchases and have to say he was spot on. We played the games last night and enjoyed them so much. I personally worked in retail for over 20 so it is rare that I right a review like this because I have high expectations of customer service. Well done, I will return!

I hold dear this shop for many reasons. First of all, it is a cosy, colorful and quiet shop in one of Cardiff's characteristic Arcades, and spending time in there just looking at all the board and roleplay games on sale is wonderful. The staff is incredibily knowledgable and friendly, and it is clear how much they love games in general, and are always ready to give you suggestions and explanations on their vast offer.

I grew up in Cardiff in the eighties when boardgames were a big thing. I always remember a shop in the same arcade that did a huge selection of boardgames but with the advent of computers it soon disappeared. I discovered this gem of a shop a few years ago and every time I go to Cardiff now I always go in here. It really takes me back in time. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable and have enough time for everyone. There is an excellent selection of games, wargames to sci-fi to trading games. They cater to the beginner and expert level player. If I still lived in Cardiff I would be in here every week.
