I've phoned three different places in Edinburgh to get a look at my computer. Each asked £70 - £80, and I only needed a diagnostic. After a day of bad events, I've been recommended this place by a friend. What a change to come in this shop, see someone with a passion for computers, managed to diagnose what was wrong under 5", plus a nice chat, with a much MUCH more affordable price. Can't recommend enough this place!

This review is overdue by about a year or so... I needed some brass standoffs and was put off by the online prices, so wondered whether a PC repair shop might be able to sell them for less. Exemplary service: When my laptop wouldn't start with the hard drive making a clicking sound I was strongly recommended to ECR. I then discovered that my back-up files were somehow corrupted. A truly sickening feeling. Graeme was calm competence itself; somehow he was able to retrieve all my files and data, fit a new hard drive, load and check my files and I was breathing again. Simple genius. Great value. Strongly recommended.

Graeme is very friendly and knowledgeable. He took a look at my laptop as soon as I brought it in, and had many spare parts available to test out which part of my computer was the problem. It was great to know that if anything needed replacing, he would have it on hand and I wouldn't be waiting days for it to be ordered in! In the end, he was able to fix it within minutes. He told me he has been doing repairs for 10+ years -- his work definitely reflects his experience. I am so appreciative that he was open for emergency repairs, when all other repair shops are closed. I needed the computer urgently for my job, and am grateful that he was available to fix it so quickly. I had a Dell Inspirion seating on my shelves for a year due to blue screen of death. i tried a few way to log in and only managed to start it twice. I was thinking about getting rid of it. but before that I wanted to get a third opinion (a friend of mine recommanded a specialist working from home whose advice isn't even worth being repeated here - summary: Dell doesn't know how to put a PC together) I noticed ECR near Summerhall and decided to give it a try. The fact they have a front shop does inspire more confidence than someone using you-tube from their kitchen desktop. Anyway. I was given a few possible reason behind my problems. Graeme was also surprised as this range was quite sturdy, a good choice, and not prone to failure. He ran a few test and fixed the drive by the next morning. the PC has been running so smoothly that it became my main PC when working from home. Glad to have found a no nonsense, not even patronising, place to get my PC fixed.

Would heavily recommend this guy. Had a bit of disaster and my laptop just wouldn't turn on a day before an essay was due. Took my laptop here as it wasn't starting up. Diagnostics was completely free and although unfortunately my laptop can't be fixed without sending it back to the manufacturer, Edinburgh Computer Repairs were hugely helpful and told me exactly what I needed to do to get it sorted. Unlike some other repair places, they didn't try to rip me off and sell me a load of stuff I didn't need and/or try and make me feel stupid. I arrived in Edinburgh last night for a writing retreat and the keyboard on my computer stopped working. I did a quick search and was able to rush over to Edinburgh computer repairs. I totally recommend this place if you have any problems with your computer!!! When I first called in, they were very patient and friendly while answering my questions. Brought my laptop in for a free diagnosis, they took it apart and explained to me thoroughly what the problem with my laptop was. He answered all the questions I had patiently and never for once made me feel unwelcome (unlike other computer shops I’ve been in). They took my hard drive out for free and taught me how to salvage the data by myself. He even gave me some advices about what new computer to get and what to look out for. I'm good with computers. I learned from my father, who once had a little repair shop of his own in Canada. When it comes to software and hardware issues, I can fix it. But being away from home and all of my tools, when the DC jack on my ASUS Ultrabook broke off (which also happens to be past warranty), I needed to find someone local that could fix my computer quickly, and on an (international) student budget. I never trust the big corporations; they're expensive and often do a poor job. After visiting a few of the local shops in the Newington area, I found their prices ridiculously high. Then I stopped by Edinburgh Computer Repairs. From the start they were cheerful and personable folk. We talked about my issue, and gave me a quote on the spot. Their prices are very reasonable; enough to cover parts and to make a small profit. They're not out to gouge their customers. It took a week to have the repair completed, which may seem long, but considering that they are a small shop, had to order in the part, completely dismantle my notebook, and solder in the piece, I am quite impressed with their turnaround. This same DC jack had to be repaired last year while under warranty. I am not one to speak ill of ASUS (I love my laptop), but their in house repair was more of a band-aid than a solid solution. It also took ASUS Repair 4+ weeks, and the repair broke in less than a year. It finally feels secure, and my charger stays put. As for the employees I encountered, they are wonderful gentlemen to talk to, and are very open and honest about what they do. They ensured that the employee most comfortable with soldering did the work. It's a tricky task. The shop itself is small, but has a sort of organized chaos that lets you know they're constantly working on something. They're also open late, which is a tremendous plus for the working crowd. Based on my first impressions, my experience with their work, and my knowledge of what it's like to work in a shop such as theirs, I do not hesitate to recommend them for any sort of repair, even one as complicated and fiddly as a DC jack. Should any issue arise while I'm on this side of the pond, I'll certainly see them first. Summary: - quick turn-around, and the job is done right the first time - very reasonable prices (as much as half that of the other independent shops) - great location and hours - personable and jovial staff

Helpful, practical, knowledgeable, checked my computer problem for free. I've had four computers from Edinburgh Computer Repairs over the years. I break them regularly! I stopped going anywhere else because these guys don't greet me with " That's be £30 exploration fee to find out what's wrong...." which pretty much everyone else does. They also do thing like.... sell at nominal price chargers and re-fit CD players (I am that old) that they have stripped out of old kit, and can sell me an indestructible does-all-the-usuals computer for 200 quid. They've never rushed me, and have told me cheap solutions to my problem that I can buy from somewhere else if they knew them. Genuine people, clearly running a nice local small business that earns the enough to get on with life and more interested in building relationships than maximising profits.

I was searching for a few replacement key caps for an old laptop I had and had looked on the internet (ebay etc) only to find extortionate prices. Staying in Edinburgh at the time, I called a few local repair shops and EDC told me to drop by and see if they could assist me. I got there and after going through a few boxes of keyboards we found something close enough and I was able to buy the whole keyboard for a tiny fraction of the price I had seen on ebay. Thank you very much, the laptop is now in daily use, I was looking at chucking it away.

The subsequent inspection really confirmed my guess, and the boss was also very good to replace me with an SSD at a favorable price. If there is a need for computer maintenance in the accessories of Aida, you can come to this ten-year old shop. ps: Computer check is free, but it may take one to two days to get results. (Original) 笔记本电脑黑屏后自己猜测有可能是SSD出了问题，于是到这家店来试一试可不可以维修。之后的检查果然印证了我的猜测，而老板也非常棒的以优惠的价格给我换了一个SSD顺便清了下灰。如果在爱大附件有电脑维修的需要，可以来这家十年老店。 ps：电脑检查是免费的，但可能需要等一到两天才有结果。
