Reviews of The MacSmiths

They have been my go to Mac repair shop - especially since Apple Care wore out. Prices aren't super low, but they are fair. If they can find a more affordable and sustainable way to fix your equipment, they will. Highly recommended.

Best mac repair specialist in the UK? Quite possibly. Took my macbook air to multiple specialists after light water damage - including the apple store, and multiple other reputable specialisrs. All gave varying reasons and cited it as unrepairable.
2 months after it breaking, and unsatisfied with my less than confident, varying feedback each time, I take it to Macsmiths. Within a minute of arrival, Paul has cleaned the machine. Within 3 minutes, the back is off and components are being inspected under his surgeon-like backlit magnifying glass. Left in his reassuring hands, 30 mins later I get a call diagnosing the fault. 1 hour after that, the faulty part is repaired and machine fixed. Hard drive and everything else perfect. You are a lifesaver.
Would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone. Paul should be known nationally.

Paul and his team are truly great. He helped me out of a real bind quicker than I could have even asked for. It is incredibly relieving to not have to deal with the pedantic and frustrating apple "genius" process, as well to have someone truly talented that stands behind their work. Thanks again!

I’m so glad I found Macsmiths (via several fb recommendations) the expert, artisanal approach to mac repairs is a refreshing antidote to sterile genius bars + their highstreet copycats where upselling / cutting corners is the order of the day. Paul is truly an artist’s artist.
After many many false starts my MacBook and I are delighted to have found this honest, extremely fairly priced, beautifully styled tech haven. Believe the hype, it’s all true - Macsmiths is an actual dream!

Better than Apple, super friendly support, thanks for fixing my macbook pro!

I wouldn't know where to go if The Macsmiths weren't around. Everytime I've used their services, my MacBook has been repaired at a very fair price. The owner, Paul, is very knowledgeable about fixing Mac's and it shows.
There is no one else that compares to this place, and their shop is amazing too!

Great service,my MacBook Pro run like beast

I recently had serious issues with my 2013 iMac and needed a serious upgrade to continue doing my musical work. As it happened my iMac would not turn on at the end but the guys at Macsmiths managed to save the situation by exchanging my iMac with a slightly earlier iMac but with i7 processor and 16 GB of Ram as well as putting a 2 terabytes SSD drive for a very good price. My work flow now is at least 10 times faster. I am very grateful and I recommend them highly!

Huge thank you to the amazing guys at The Macsmiths. Brought in my broken Macbook and they fixed it with no fuss in a matter of hours. Super friendly, fast service and great value. Would highly recommend.

I have used The Macsmiths several times to address issues with a couple of macbook pros. The turnaround time is always astounding, great value and trustworthy service. I can't recommend this place highly enough!

Came in on Thursday lunch time for a problem with my MacBook Pro which wouldn’t turn on - something to do with the logic board. Paul sorted out by Friday morning. Quick friendly service even got 6 months warranty on the work. So can’t go wrong with this place friendly quick and reasonable.

I took my Mac in about a month ago for repair after liquid (beer) damage. I was charged £276 (inc VAT) for a new keyboard and a clean-up. VERY good value for money! (Considering John Lewis (where I bought it from) wanted to charge me £1,190!!)
I took my mac in at 4pm and it was done by 9am the next day. Efficient and very professional service.

Great shop, great service, great guy !
After a friend recommended I try the Macsmiths, I took in the my allegedly doomed iMac . Not only was I overjoyed to find it could be fixed for a third of the price quoted by Apple, but it was also repaired on the same day! Paul was both professional and informative. I am pleased to say he has also fixed my Mac Book Air against a journalistic deadline- saving both my computer, my media, and my proverbial. It is this experience that has encouraged me to break the habit of a lifetime and actually post a Google Review.

Macsmiths and Paul are brilliant. Very quick, honest and well priced.
They looked at 4 macs with varying problems from liquid damage to a hard knock.
The macs were all assessed for free and Paul took lots of time to explain in detail my options on fixing each of them and all the costs involved.
I bought a reconditioned mac from them using some part exchange money from 2 macs that were not fixable.
So I came away with 2 fully working, cleaned and up to date macs and the happy knowledge that I have found a great mac repair shop.
I thoroughly recommend them

Paul’s communication, fast service and pricing is absolutely the best you could ever dream of. He diagnosed the problem in just over 30 minutes and had my machine running like new in just over 2 hours when all other mac repair shops told me they couldn’t help me. I recommend anyone with any Mac problem to visit. Great work guys! A real gem of a store 😄

Macsmith promise to get your problem sorted (for the most part) within a day. They fixed my MacBook within the hour. As a freelance writer my laptop is everything and I dreaded the thought of being left without it for a minute let alone the thought of needing a new one. Not so! Paul was patient, reassuring and above all knows his stuff. Thanks for your speedy, reasonable service and for saving me. Heroes

Brilliant and very quick same day service, with extra advice about keeping my Mac in good shape too. I highly recommend The Macsmiths!

I'm so so happy for the help I got! I had some liquid on my laptop by accident. After my visit to Apple, the cost of the repair was so much and I would have to wait for 2-3 weeks to get it back. I got really sad for the news and was on my way to buy a new laptop. Luckily I called The Macsmith as well. My laptop was repaired for the half of the price and I got it back on the SAME day!! Amazing!!
The service was fantastic. The owner is super friendly.
I definitely recommend The Macsmith. I always gonna go there for service in the future. <3

Adept, sincere, transparent, efficient and good value for money. My Mac was completely dead and lost. Got it back within two hours of dropping it off, after having the motherboard replaced and the computer having a full service it was back to life. Will never go anywhere else again, including Apple themselves.

Called in on a Friday evening. Had my computer fixed and back to me within half an hour. Terrific, fast, polite and affordable. Never written a review before but service blew me away.
Thank You

Brought in my MacBook Pro from 2011, which had been super slow for the past year and finally crashed and wouldn´t boot. It was diagnosed within 10 minutes and I was given a quote to replace the hard drive cable and the hard drive itself for a new, solid state one plus a cleaning service as my Mac was filthy inside. This mounted to 230GBP + VAT and the Mac was repaired within a day. My Mac now works faster than it ever has and I´m happy to have a 3 month warranty in case anything goes wrong.
This place was recommended to me and I am happy to recommend it further.

Miracle workers! Paul and his team have saved my MacBookPro countless times. With issues ranging from serious water damage, hard drive failure and a fried hard drive cable. Each and every time, the problem has been fixed within a matter of hours, one time the problem was fixed then and there on the spot within 10minutes! Genius! I always receive a very clear, calm and optimistic diagnosis of what the problem is, which really helps when you think your mac is beyond repair, and every time no matter how big or small the problem, my Mac is ready for me to pick up on the same day. Friendly, efficient and value for money all in an incredible shop setting - I could not recommend more highly.
Thanks Paul!

I work on a mac all day, and depend on them... I have three 6 year old ones that are starting to need lots of maintenance and finding the macsmith is like an oasis in a desert. They're fantastically quick (the case has been off my mac each time within 3 minutes of walking through the door), straight about what needs doing and I get the feeling they enjoy and care about what they do. You can take your mac to the apple store, wait a couple of weeks and pay a lot (and in my case the repair wasn't that great) or you can go to these guys (I am not going to the mac store any more!)
j. b.
having your computer fail on you is a stressful business. trusting someone else to repair it for you even more so. after a ridiculous quote from a local apple affiliated repair shop, a sloppy diagnosis and no repair i was back at square one. in fact i was a step further back as the idiots forgot to reconnect my failing battery! my wife said i should try mac smiths as we'd been past it numerous times in the decade we've been in hackney. so i went on google reviews, and after the previous experience, decided to start first with all the bad reviews! a bit weird i know, but i was really taken with the fact that the guy in charge had taken time to respond to every one. that for me is a real show of someone's professional pride in their business. sure, the 5 star reviews are numerous but if a guy can take time to counter the bad ones then that for me is real plus. anyway i went there, spoke to the guy, he opened up my laptop, told me his initial thoughts, quoted me a really good price, and got my 2014 MacBook Air back up and working as quick as i ever remember it, in around 3 hours. all in all... super impressed, great price, super professional, and he was able to explain what was wrong in a way that even an idiot like me could understand... 5 stars, and a third of the cost i was quoted by the apple affiliates down the road. huge thanks.

Super friendly service, quick turnaround for a replacement macbook air battery (less than four hours after I walked in), reasonable prices. Great stuff, far better than I’ve experienced with Apple themselves or authorised repair centres

My Macbook Pro keyboard was experiencing problems, around which I had devised a network of hacks that was quickly collapsing. I had also done something odd to my network / firewall /etc. settings and my internet was not working. The problems were identified, and a quote issued, on the spot. My keyboard was replaced, and a bunch of troublesome software and viruses were banished. I came in arounf 16:15pm to drop off my laptop, and it was ready at 10:40am the next day. For someone whose livelihood depends on my machine, the turnaround time was important. You could surely get this done a little cheaper elsewhere, but I trust Macsmith’s workmanship, and they supply quality parts, also very important.

Wow! I can only say Wow! Here is the story: I spilled water on my mac and even tried to dry it with hairdryer thus melting the keyboard (I know, an idiot). I went to the apple store and they told me "we cannot repair it because your mac is vintage"... what do you mean? I bought end 2011! "no, we cannot repair it but you can buy a new one!" - NO WAY! So I remembered about MacSmiths as it is located near where I lived before, went there, explained the problem, they opened the mac straight away, gave me a quote, an in 2 hours I got a text that the mac was ready! All for 240£+VAT (keyboard replaced + clean up and updates). These guys are GENIUSES! Thanks again!

Took my battered and bruised MacBook pro in for much needed battery replacement with the promise of a same day turnaround. Having run a complimentary diagnostic they discovered my hard-drive was hanging on by a thread and gave me the option to replace this too, again within the same day turnaround. The machine has gone from being borderline unusable to working like new, no mean feat considering the state I gave it to them in. Fixing a Mac is never cheap, but these guys were completely transparent with their pricing and took me through my options before doing any work. Even though due to the replacement hard drive I ended up paying more than I had wanted to, the value I got was above and beyond what I was expecting. Their "fix rather than replace" attitude is extremely refreshing and at odds with most of my experiences at the apple store, and I'll definitely be going back. As an aside, it's a really beautiful little shop and the collection of vintage Apple machines (all working, apparently!) is worth visiting for alone.

Second time we have used this guy, first time was a red wine disaster over a mac book, he looked at it for free and was honest that it could not be fixed. This time just clear water and after dropping it off we knew that the computer was in the right hands. The guy is honest and does not try to make money out of machines that can't be fixed and does not charge to look at them. This time we needed a few bits including a new keyboard. Was not cheap but cheaper than buying a new Mac.... come with a three month guarantee on the work. Tried it out at home worked perfectly apart from the space bar was sticking. Was warned this might happen, after dropping it back in problem sorted free of charge. If only they did I phones too!

I went to fix my 2012 mac pro at Macsmith based on the google comments. Paul and his team, work really well and are open to discussion to find the best solution. My mac was too old and the fixing too expensive for the machine. They installed my hard drives on a second hand computer same generation for a fair price.

Just fantastic. Had wireless card issue for months. I went to Apple and authorised resellers. They all said it needed a new card and I would need to leave it with them for 10 days. Not an option for me as I need it for my work 24/7. A friend recommended Paul , I took it in and he diagnosed a faulty wire. Mended it in just over minute. Can't recommend highly enough. Nick

Really helpful - in the end my computer wasn't worth the work needed doing to fix it so Paul refunded all the money I had paid so far and gave me my computer back. He literally tried everything to see if the problem was isolated to one specific area and in the process kept me updated with what he was doing. He was calm and friendly throughout which made the whole ordeal much easier for me and then when I left gave me some sound advice for buying my next mac.
I would definitely recommend as an antidote to the 'use up an throw away' ethos that apple has come to encourage.

The Macsmiths know their onions and provide excellent customer service. I decided to use an old iMac after 6 years, but it needed bringing up to date. Macsmiths replaced the hard drive, installed the current OSX and tested the changes thoroughly. The turnaround was prompt and a thorough, excellent service was provided. They are now my go-to for all things Mac & Macbook. Thanks.

Had a liquid damage logic board from my MBP 17' 2010 model, went to Apple twice quoting £500something x2 for new logic board as well a new screen basically saying buy a new MBP. Got told by a family friend about The Macsmiths got Paul to check it out and got it fixed along with a recommendation for a new HD which got told my old one was acting up.
Great service, friendly, great repair price quotes, Apple Genius's should put your heads to shame! Thanks Paul will be back in the future. RECOMMENDED!

Without doubt, Macsmith is the most reliable, knowledgable and friendly provider of Mac repairs I've ever encountered. They go above and beyond the call of duty every time I've used them, and I always know I'm in safe hands.
Can't thank Paul and his team enough, they've got me out of trouble on more than one occasion, and they'll be the first place I'll visit for any future Mac repairs.

i rather take my mac here than to the guys who make the machine. great service, quick and reliable. quick to diagnose the problems and than always has a solution, often a better on than you would get at another place, or might have thought of yourself. highly recommended if you care about your machine and genuine people that do a great job.

I've owned a variety of Macs for over a decade, meaning I've had to deal with a variety of repair places. THIS place eclipsed the all- the fastest, cheapest, best repair ever.
I had a damaged logic board, a broken keyboard, a corrupted drive- and just three days and an astounding 300 POUNDS later my Mac is back and running faster than new, with an O.S upgrade thrown in for free.
Its important to understand that the 'broken Logic board' moment is the killer of computer repair; the inference being that the Logic board is one intricately balanced piece of Jenga-like hardware, and one failed component requires a complete replace of the entire board. This is the angle ALL other repair shops take, which can immediately add 600+ pounds to the final bill. My repair elsewhere would have cost well over a grand, and at an Apple store they would have advised me to throw it away and buy another, fact.
Instead this amazing repair place stocks even the tiniest component, and my resoldered, rebuilt Logic board is good as new- a refreshing change to the Screw The Ignorant Customer attitude that riddles the elitist attitude of techy places. APPLAUSE.
Finally- no jargon, no smoke and mirrors, quick friendly service, and an amazing historical collection of Macs to examine whilst you wait.
If i could give it six stars, I would.
