The site has progressed rapidly and the larger of the public green park spaces is now open complete with splashing fountains. Sadly they don't pulse and go in fancy patterns but they are nevertheless pleasant to sit near. The birch trees, greenery and flowered shrubs should look good through all the seasons. The walkways through to the Westfield extension where John Lewis is the flagship store are now finished too. The prettily laced metallic fencing which is back lit in the evening is quite striking and it offsets the flagstones placed at a angle with just the right amount of light to also see the shrubs and leaf patterns in the trees. The light cast under the railway arches also treats the historic aspect of Wood Lane station very respectfully. It was closed for a few decades then revived and remodeled as part of the Westfield and St James site. The first affordable block is now occupied on the other side of John Lewis with their tenants enjoying both the retail facilities, the new children's play area ( see my photos) and the well organised security patrols. More housing, mostly grad pads, and offices plus smaller retail units will open up in the wake of the ugli building being demolished next year. The cranes will be on site for a while longer. I personally love seeing their sculptural serenity against the night sky.
