Reviews of The National Self Build & Renovation Centre
J. H.
This is an amazing place for ideas and contacts for any building project. Just to walk around and see what everyone has to offer is great.
I will definitely be coming back again.
T. E.
This centre is a veritable godsend for anyone thinking of building, renovating or refurbishing. The ability to meet the experts 1-2-1 is gold dust. I have been many times but always find some neat new products and suppliers
V. D. (.
Attended a self-build workshop and really loved the place. Everything is very well organised and designed, the tours are great, and all the staff at the front desk and around the building were super friendly and attentive at all times :) (the photo I took is not great but I took more notes than photos! ;P)

We've exhibited at NSBRC 'almost' from the begining. We began with one small stand and we now have our different rainwater sustem, door canopies, aluminium wall coping and aluminium flat roof drainage products on 3 stands and throughout the centre. We receive several literature requests from custom and self builders every week and the number increases year on year. We have the added benefit of the use of the conference facilities for meetings. The staff are so helpful and positive. We share a passion for great renovations and supporting self builders.

Attended the Eco Workshop yesterday and found it very helpful and informative. Particularly appreciated the one to one sessions with experts who were able to clarify my thinking on heat pumps and solar panels.
I have previously attended a very useful online course on managing budgets but this was my first visit to the centre and I was impressed with the range of exhibitors at the centre covering everything that you would need for a building project. It's a shame that more of the stands weren't manned but I guess that this would prove to costly for many businesses.
D. J.
Great session. Lots of useful info. There was a lot of discussion around the fabric of a building so might have been even better if there was some discussion on insulation options. My current interest would be in what can be done in a renovation project rather than a super efficient new build. Key area which products have the best cost / return ratio for those with a restricted budget. Overall a useful session, the first I have “attended” but not the last👍
J. J.
Great show. My partner and I attended today (Saturday) & enjoyed listening to several of the ‘build it theatre’ talks & spoke to several experts on their stands. We learnt so much and have come away even more excited at the prospect of self-build. The welcome staff and cafe staff were also really professional & friendly and the centre lovely and clean. Thank you so much - today has been so helpful!! :)
C. G.
Fantastic place with incredible resources and informative sessions. We went to the center a month ago and were amazed at all the innovative products and companies on display. Tonight we attended an online Barn Conversion webinar which was inspiring and very content heavy. I am sure we’ll be revisiting and participating in other trainings throughout our project. Thank you so much for everything you’re doing!
A. L.
First time attending The National Self Build & Renovation Show. Well organised with a wide range of exhibitors and professionals. We're looking forward to next year's show.
A. R.
Great place we have a stand here my first visit, very well organised Covid security was good. So many stands for anyone doing a self-build, renovation, or conversion project. Good seminars knowledgeable exhibitors. Well worth a visit.
D. K.
This is a fantastic resource. Not only are all the exhibits around the Centre so informative, they have 'tours' where an expert can take you around the stands and answer questions. I was there for a free two-day workshop - the workshop was great but no doubt one of the major factors in its success was the venue!
J. C.
Yesterday I attended a day of workshop on various energy sources for new builds, self. Builds and retro fits at the NATIONAL SELF BUILD RENOVATION CENTRE based just off M4.
I didn’t know about this centre until 3 weeks ago and until I arrived and asked a few questions I had no idea what to expect.
If you are involved with any building project or even curious as to what is available on the market which might help reduce CO2 emissions etc. then this is a place you should visit.
I really like the business model which I found worked for me with multiple stands advertising and showing many different products with a unique process to obtain additional info.
In addition to all these stands and I didn’t get to look at them all as I attended 5 or 6 25 minute presentations with Q&A’s as well as the chance to speak to 2 experts on a 1 to 1 basis.
Priceless !
In addition to the organised presentations the staff were helpful, polite , and nothing seemed too much trouble. the auditorium was full and standing room only for every workshop I attended
The air con was a real asset on such a hot day.
Some stands were manned and the information and replied to questions asked were honest, no sales pitch was really refreshing to see.
I really cannot think of anything Negative to say about the day except I wish I had known about this company and what they offered years ago.
In addition to all they provided it us a great place to reconnect with like minded property people and more importantly meet others to share your experiences with new contacts.
I suggest you take several business cards to hand out etc.
What a fantastic day and I am checking diary for a return visit with my wife to look at the stands I didn’t get to visit.
Thank you Harvey and team for organising the event, even though I live over 120 miles away I will be back

I went to the National Self Build & Renovation Centre mid Nov 2022 to the Eco Workshop - Sustainable Homes: New Build & Retrofit. This was the first time I had been and I attended a number of talks by some experts in their filed. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and learnt a lot. The knowledge and experience of the speakers was excellent.
L. B.
An excellent resource, so much to see and learn, from building types, systems, materials and designs as well as suppliers that deal specifically in the self build niche. Well worth not just one visit, but I suspect I will be making many visits as my project moves through the stages. Highly recommend.
L. D.
First time visiting and impressed with extensive areas for different types of products. Although I’m not planning a self build project, there was a lot I took away from the show.
Free parking was a bonus as was a pleasant coffee shop.
I can recommend this venue.
D. F.
As complete novices and newbies this was a great introduction. It provided a starting point on things to consider should we chose to embark on a self build journey. We now know where our first port of call will be for guidance and advice. I’d recommend anyone thinking about dipping their toe to go here first.
K.
Exceptional. One year in to finding land as an aspiring self-builder, the quality of in-person and virtual training, and ready access to professionals at the centre is beyond brilliant. Harvey and his team and the expansive range of professionals he sources to provide advice have a warm, receptive, supportive and non-sales-pushy approach to engaging and guiding us with making big and often expensive decisions. Harvey's family-like, kind team and fully present leadership approach is reassuring and refreshing in this competitive property space. Well done Team NSBRC!
C. M.
I've visited the centre a number of times and also attended two of the free events they run here. There is so much useful information you can't absorb it all in one go. The fact that they have real examples of the different build systems and technologies there is brilliant as seeing something on a website or YouTube just isn't the same, and it's all located in one place. If you are planning a self-build or are wanting to renovate your current home then I can't recommend it highly enough.
W. J.
Really interesting workshops at the Sustainable Homes show. I picked up lots of useful information to help me with our retrofit project. Thank you to all the seminar speakers and to Harvey and his team at the fantastic NSBRC.
B. F.
This was our 3rd visit to the centre. This time was the Eco workshop on heat & energy. A day packed with valuable information, the opportunity to discuss our requirements and meet potential suppliers and view some of their products. Highly recommended, whatever stage of project you are at.
A. L.
I attended a workshop day on the subject of Passivhaus construction and found it very informative. The quality of delivery from the various speakers was excellent. The NSBRC offers regular courses and events - some of which (including the one I attended) are free. They also put on some online events. Their permanent exhibition of innovative building materials and construction methods is also well worth a visit.
A. T.
Love the seminars in person or online and there is so much other information on offer on the huge number of stands in the centre - a veritable treasure chest for anyone interested in a personally designed home.
Only downside is the poor coffee - please get a real espresso machine - really essential when you’re there all day!
L. B.
Two wonderfully useful days at the NSBRC for the Passive House Trust workshop for self-builders. Informative presentations and tour of the centre (foundation types, contruction models, etc.) The exhibitor stands covered a lot of areas, some I hadn't even thought about. So time well spent. Thanks everyone.
M. M.
Absolutely superb venue and really enjoyed the visit. The centre had lots to see and mull over, with very well designed exhibits to capture your attention. The talks were also very informative and relevant - would visit again.
D.
Mike and Philip both gave us some great insight into their building experiences and it was useful to understand more about the types of construction available and their pluses / minuses. I enjoyed the course and would recommend it to everyone who is thinking about self building.
N. H.
Excellent Project Management course, the savings we will make because of this newly acquired understanding, will far outweigh the cost of the course. So worth it. Now looking at what other courses they do to help our renovation go as smooth as possible.
H.
We have just attended our third FREE information day at NSBRC in as many months. It is very much worth the 3.5 hour round trip and we’ll definitely be back a number of times before our project is complete. We also attended an online project management course with NSBRC last week, which was worth every penny. Highly recommend attending both the centre and online courses.
B. F.
We have visited the NSBRC a few times now. The workshops in particular have been worth the long drive from York!
The latest eco workshop focusing on retrofits was inspiring. Some great speakers and valuable insights, plus the opportunity to meet potential suppliers or get more info from the stands.
I would love to see more in future about insulation materials, especially natural ones such as hemp, plus alternatives to gypsum boards, with more sustainable and breathable materials.
Thanks Harvey and the NSBRC team.
J. G.
Essential visit for anyone considering or progressing with a building project. Despite having done some decent research already, the information, tips and personal experience from the Eco Workshop opened our eyes to new ideas and considerations that I'm not sure we would have found otherwise.
M. G.
This is probably the best source available to those wishing to self build. Harvey Fremlin and his team have a fantastic “can do” attitude and make you so very welcome. If you are thinking about self build or renovation/extension of your property then this is the place to go. And it is FREE! Cannot recommend enough. Thank you Team NSBRC
G. M.
We’ve just spent two days at the NSBRC completely absorbed in talks and presentations on every aspect of building a Passivhaus and also retrofitting an existing property. We learned so much, not just from listening to experts on insulation, windows, air tightness etc but also from guys who’d built their own houses and were happy to share their experiences and knowledge. It’s so helpful being able to have one to one chats - again with experts, wander around the stands and meet like minded people.
What a great place, we’ll worth the journey and has helped us enormously in our quest to build a Passivhaus. Thank you all, including reception staff and the coffee makers!
P. N.
What a fabulous facility . It’s tremendous to have all the information you need for your project under one roof . The eco workshop was very educational and I took away a lot of information which will help me build a much better house at a lower cost both in terms of capital costs and running costs
C. W.
Fantastic to meet expert traders that are passionate and knowledgeable about their products and the environment and are willing to help fill in the gaps! We had a positive and helpful day out and came home inspired to crack on with more of out eco renovation.
C. F.
Have been to quite a few seminars now, mostly concerning eco retrofit housing. Have learnt an enormous amount and thoroughly enjoyed the experience each and every time. We certainly would not have got to where we are now without the NSBRC. It is a fantastic resource.
A. N.
Very interesting day, all the experts were really helpful, approachable and knowledgeable.
The centre was really interesting as well, some brilliant innovative stuff. The reception staff were all very friendly and very happy, which added to a positive experience.
S. P.
The two day passivhaus course was extremely useful and informative,, loads of useful eco information from a wide range of experts along with real world examples. Plenty of time to talk to the experts about your own project. Everyone was really friendly and helpful and it's all free, thanks to all.
S. C.
Just watched the free NSBRC Heat and Energy online surgery. Not the first zoom session I have watched - as always very professional and helpful. Staff at the Centre are very knowledgeable too. A must visit place if you are self building or renovating.
m. t.
I attended an excellent on-line seminar on insulation options on 11/10/22. 2 hours of fact packed content, with good experts. Worth a view of recording. Thanks for organising.
E. S.
Excellent resource for new house builders with a welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable team. We'll definitely be back throughout the life of our project. Thank you!
T. R.
Amazing venue and excellent customer service and experience from the moment you walk into the centre. I attended the passivhaus workshops and the content organisation of the day was superb. Already looking at what other workshops i can attend .
D. T.
Excellent evening.
Well managed with very interesting stories and experiences about homebuilding the two well qualified presenters. Valuable lessons were learnt during the hour and half.
A. C.
Twice I have spent 2 days at the NSBRC and each time I have learned a great deal about Self Building and Renovation. Also I have managed to see a wide range of products and services available. Some of which I knew nothing about. So I always learn a great deal at the NSBRC.
N. B.
Excellent resource with so much useful information. If you're thinking of self building you should visit here at an early stage. Wish I'd known about it sooner.
Only minor down side....the coffee is terrible!
M. P.
Great course and the NSBRC centre is an absolute wealth of information. Knowledgable and friendly speakers. Highly recommend if you are going to do any project of your own!
F. B.
We signed up for the 'NSBRC Guide to Finding Land & Appraising a Plot' online course on 8th October 2022. It was presented by Mark Stevenson - Managing Director of Pottons - who covered a lot of ground and made it an interesting day. I would recommend this to anyone thinking of a self-build.
M. W.
Thanks for the really good presentations today about Passivhaus. Also excellent that I could have a detailed and very useful discussion with a couple of experts about heat pumps.
P. T.
A permanent version of EcoBuild / FutureBuild. Extensive displays of eco products. Extremely worthwhile visiting for self builders and regular builders wanting to up-skill. I attended a 2 day intro to Passivhaus: good presenters and well organised. Highly recommended. I'm a chartered building surveyor and Retrofit c-ordinator. [Please fix the on-site ev chargers (which are strangely still free to use) which repeatedly cut out after a few mins].
P. W.
Very valuable because there is so much information about building aimed at the self builder. We will be using ideas/products that we did not know existed before attending.
C. G.
A great facility for professionals and builders interested in construction and building. If you are planning to build your own home or just planning an extension there are hundreds of stands and exhibitions to give you options and possibilities. A great venue with confrence, food and drink facilities and toilets. Plenty of parking on site and very easy to find just off the M4.
S. G.
Great visit to the NSBRC Show yesterday. Very interesting Energy Q&A and some excellent conversations with exhibitors. Very useful for our coming self build. Thanks to all.
J. M.
We absolutely loved our visit today and came away better informed and enthused to start our project. Thanks to everyone who gave their time and shared their knowledge and experience.
t. m.
Extensive range of exhibits, well organised, very informative lectures and discussions. Everything you need to know to tackle ay building project
P. M.
Great day at the Eco Workshop today. Lots of advice, good presentations and helpful ideas about how to go about renovating a cold and draughty property.Thank you!
T. D.
We spent Friday 17 May at this venue. Staff and presenters are helpful and friendly. The workshops and presentation start on time, speaks are practical and generous with their time. If you are interested in specific and niche product, check they have a fully manned stand. Many exhibiters don't. My reason for 4 stars rather than 5. It's well worth a visit, you need at least one day. Enjoy, I did. TD
L. D.
Thanks to all involved in the on-line Barn Conversion workshop last night. I was very interesting and provided food for thought. The examples of different types of barns/conversions covered a broad range. Would have liked a bit more time on the planning aspects but nevertheless a lot packed in to two hours and all FREE! More please!
T. S.
Another excellent Webinar session hosted by NSBRC; Barn Conversions. Outstanding analysis from both architects, planners, specialist builders/framers and finance - well worth the 2hrs invested. Well done NSBRC!
J. W.
Excellent setup, with several entire houses inside a giant warehouse full of every kind of demonstration type, material & supplies. Lots of great free advice and highly informative tours. Been several times for our current project to seek advice, see demonstrations & compare materials. Highly recommended.
G. D.
This is such an awesome resource for self build - whether you are doing a complete build, or just want information on a specific area. There's definitely something to suit every one and it's well worth a visit.
A. P.
An excellent and extremely infomative one day eco-workshop on heat and energy. Good speakers who provided very ueeful information about how to navigate the fast changing world of heat pumps and solar power. The organisation of the event was profession, the pre and post event information was very helpful - and it was free!
R. R.
Very useful presentations, helpful experts giving information without pressure.
Great to hear so many ways to make our renovation eco friendly.
j.
Last nights free online presentations on the important subject of ENERGY and the different options ( or combinations of options) to fight the upward spiralling costs was so so positively charged with information.
Thank you NSBRC for organising the event and Harvey for hosting it.
I just find this organisation to be so helpful in the giving good advice with no sales pressures.
It’s another 10from me.
N. B.
Always friendly and super helpful. The online Zoom meetings are an excellent way of getting extra information if you can't get there in person on Fridays and Saturdays.
D. M.
Heat & Energy Course 30.8.22
Excellent course and overview of the ways to heat and ventilate a home. Covered a broad spectrum and details such as floor coverings for underfloor heating
C. M.
A very worthwhile visit, the seminars were instructive, would have been 5 stars if there hadn't been the stands that were unmanned.
N. W.
Excellent workshop with some highly knowledgeable people presenting. Amazing facility to learn and research before starting a renovation project.
D. M.
We’d planned the talks we’d like to hear prior to arrival however, heard none of them because of the experts on hand to give project specific advice. Really good facility and ‘ask an expert’ area.
S. P.
Lots to look at and explore but most importantly a whole host of people willing to share their expertise and guidance. We will be back as 1 day was just not long enough.
S. M.
We are back and forth to the Centre at the moment, as we plan and learn about how to do our first self build. I consider we are extremely fortunate to have this amazing resource close enough (90 mins away) to use and we are also attending a number of their courses, both in person and online, all of which have proven invaluable in steering us through this maze. Amazing team of people, passionate about what they do.
S. M.
An amazing place to visit, and a true 1 stop shop for all things self build and construction. They run plenty of courses throughout the year as well and have on site specialists and displays to answer all of your technical questions. Great staff, facilities and even a top little coffee shop on site too!! Plenty of parking and even 6 free EV charging points out front so if you are interested in self build or renovation, this is the place to come to!!
A. T.
Well worth visiting just to see the latest ideas and tech for renovating or upgrading your property, though I went for one of the regular seminar days which was well worthwhile attending.
K. C.
Easy to get to and plenty of parking. Well organised with lots of friendly and experienced industry experts to talk to. Useful displays, talks, buildings. Thoroughly recommend if you need advice about a self build or renovation project.
N. S.
Centre is well organised, easy to find and park.
Full of everything a self builder would need from inspiration to bricks and mortar.
Everyone was enthusiastic but no hard selling.
Almost too much information available for one visit and you might leave with more questions than you arrived with.
R. S.
Easy to find. Two Minutes from M4.
Lots of displays and knowledge on tap. If you are thinking of building your self a definately worth the time.
Make sure if you are looking at a particular product a representative will be there.
D. A.
I have been going to the NSBRC centre now for the last year of so. I have also attended a few of their seminars. It has been more than useful, to be honest I have learnt so much there. I have also placed lots of orders with the exhibitors at the centre. I will still keep going as I have more to learn. I recommend anybody that is doing a self build or large renovation to make the time to visit.
R. P.
Exccellent day with great speakers. If you are contemplating an eco build it’s a must!
A. A.
Excellent 2 day workshop. Excellent location. Fantastic range if stands and ideas
M. F.
I've been here a couple of times. It's essentially a warehouse full of people selling services, but I actually find it really useful for getting ideas relating to things we're looking to improve on our house. For instance Solar Roof Tiles, they're shown at the NSBRC, got to talking to a few companies about them, so got some valuable information.
I think one thing NSBRC could improve on, is add an "i" for improvements, I personally feel that could get a lot more interested visitor. Whilst I'm thinking out it, they could also add a "g" for garden - there was some stuff here for gardens, but was very limited. Still giving it 5 stars as lots of the services and items that are on display and being sold are very relevant to today's society and interesting (you get a view of where things are heading, particularly for heating, better insulation, etc)
L. S.
For any one embarking on a self-build journey, this must absolutely be the starting point. It has plenty of exhibits on the various technologies that underpin the process, along with numerous experts and service providers ready to engage. In my the visits here over six years, I have found that the exhibits have been updated and all new and emerging technologies are showcased. This is also a point where you can get multiple contacts for planning, design and mortgage.
Located close to the motorway, it's easy to locate. It's a bit of a distance from London, where we live. So when we visit, we pack some snacks and make a day of it.
L. C.
brilliant day - learnt lots from the experts. Small tips to major activities. Really thought provoking. Thank you.
G. M.
If you are hankering after building your own house or renovating a property then YOU have to visit The National Self Build & Renovation Centre. What they do not know about self build or renovation could be written on the back of a postage stamp! Super people and bags of knowledge. Thank you for all your help & many thanks.
P. B.
Very useful day. Saved £15,000 by finding another way to install Under Floor Heating.
S. A.
I’ve just attended a full days online Passivhaus Workshop hosted by NSBRC and it was excellent. It started with a description of what Passivhaus design is all about, followed by presentations by industry experts on the key elements. It was presented such that whether you knew a little or a lot, you would be able to benefit from a lot of the presentations, and it was all very pleasantly effectively guided by NSBRCs Harvey Fremlin.
The NSBRC certainly appears to be growing into an excellent bridge between the Construction Industry and Self builders
Thank you
Steve
B. R.
Really great for getting some preliminary information on what to expect in the self build world. I like to attend the regular self build conferences for ideas if nothing else. Would recommend to the curious!
R. B.
Another very informative day at the centre, this was my third visit, many things learned each time
J. M.
Not quite a 5 star but close. Fantastic for designing a house for start to finish and couldn't believe that they have a whole house built inside. Would love a house like this.
L. M.
Lots of useful information and great to be able to talk to knowledgeable experts. We will be back!
R. H.
I have visited the centre several times both when they have a major show and recently when almost entirely empty. The information gained has been immense. The opportunity to touch ,open, close, windows doors floors etc has enable me to make choices for my new build .
The shows have had experts who are approachable and share their knowledge in an easy to understand way.
The companies that have stands have supplied me with samples of flooring, granite worktop etc.
If you are planning an extension or a new build this place should definitely be on you to do list.
A. L.
Fantastic place. Filled with lots of different ideas about self builds.
C.
A really good session but needs practical follow ups perhaps on topics suggested by visitors.
J. G.
Very worthwhile session. Though in the main it confirmed what I had already read, some of the advice reshaped my plans.
r. m.
Brilliant permanent exhibition for self builders. Highly recommended place to visit. We attended on an advertised show day and it was busy. Main car parks were full, but they let us park across the road
C. V.
Full of great ideas for house and extension designs very useful day out.
M. M.
Really use! It was great to hear experts talking about options and the associated benefits and limitations.
I. S.
Excellent place to visit for ideas, seeing what products are available, and talking with knowledgable trades people.
J. P.
Really enjoyed this show, lots of variety, and lots of exhibitors, but it's nice and compact so you get to see lots of variety. Must have had 300 exhibitors. Enjoyed the chilled vibe, had time for good conversations with lots of exhibitors.
s. T.
Absolutely amazing, very friendly staff and very informative of products/companies to whom is listed as an exhibiter within the premises. Delightful to speak with humans who share a passion to provide quality service whilst we embark on our passion to build our dream home, thank you 😊
S. B.
Went during the week for the first time. We're just looking at the possibility of doing a self-build (or rather getting someone to build it for us!), so very much an exploratory visit. Found the place very welcoming and organised. We went around as much as we could, but were flagging a bit by the end (after about 3 1/2 hours). Plenty to see and great info (at least from a beginner perspective). There's a self-build focused half and a renovation part with lots of product stands inbetween. Great place to see products first-hand. Also lots of service businesses advertised. Only idea to improve would be that the manufacturer stands don't have any pricing info. You can get it by contacting them (they provide a scanner to scan barcodes), but it would be good to understand a ballpark as I suspect there's a very wide range of price points. I also attended a virtual Passivhaus seminar which again was very informative to get a grounding in what Passivhaus is all about. Coffee shop did not seem to have anything bar crisps and sweets and we didn't see anyone serving while we were there (I guess people on reception would oblige). We had taken a flask of coffee and sandwiches. There is a Costa, Greggs and Subway at the end of the road, but sadly nowhere worth buying a sandwich from nearby ;-). Hope to return when our plans have progressed.
E. H.
Really good permenant exhibition for anyone looking to self build a new home, or renovate or improve an existing home. Particularly interested in the renewable energy exhibits.
K. L.
A really useful first visit, and a great opportunity to discuss some of my options with the exhibitors.
Well laid out, good selection of stalls, easy parking
M. H.
Excellent, inspiring and informative NSBRC Show! Thoroughly recommended to anyone considering anything from an extension or renovation, through to a full house build. Particularly good resources focussing in on new build or renovation to very high standards of insulation, air-tightness, renewable energy micro generation and energy efficiency (including Fabric First and Passivhaus approaches).
C. U.
Really insightful, well presented, and free online seminars. Attended one on 27/05/2022 on Passivhaus construction and considerations. Learned loads.
P. W.
We have been a partner with the NSBRC for many years and they are a great family to be a part of. The professionalism of all the other partners and staff is second to none and we are very proud to be involved.
C. M.
I attended a webinar workshop on Passivhaus. The wealth of experience offered was great, so useful for my own Passivhaus build!
W. S.
Great session on Eco Heat and Energy - some real take aways that I will use
K. O.
Great free resource for renovators and self builders. Find out all you need to know about building systems from foundations to roofs and everything in between. Hundreds of supplier displays to wander through, including at least 3 complete/incomplete houses to give you ideas for your projects. Well worth spending a few hours here. You will probably want to return for more information or a training course.
A. M. G.
A lot of information from solar thermal heating to ventilation systems. Excellent advice and talks for any self build project.
P. P.
Excellent Eco Workshop, many very interesting ideas and products
T. T.
Amazing place!
Everything under one roof to give inspiration and help to plan your dream house. Really enjoyed my visit.
H. R.
Well worth the trip. Most of the stands had lovely and engaging reps. Some of the displays of walls and foundations are excellent to see and appreciate anatomy of houses.
P. A.
Such a wealth of building knowledge and information open to the public and should be an essential place to visit for anyone considering or planning any form of building work whether DIY or through a contractor. Thoroughly recommend it.
A. W.
A great place to see and talk about all aspects of self-build and renovation. They provide a scanner which sends your details to the people that you want more details from. Eg send me a brochure, I'm interested in a quote, etc.
K. P.
Absolutely loved this show, learned a great deal and made some really useful contacts. Amazed at how many new products are out there
C. G. C.
Picked up lots of information and ideas. Well worth the visit.
A. D.
Helpful support staff and came away with a lot of useful and valuable information. Thank you!
H. R.
A unique experience and a must for anyone thinking of doing any building work on their house (and not just building a new house). If you visit outside "event days" you can look at over 100 permanent product exhibition stands without having to battle the typical crowds. You can also sign up for some great value "self build" courses.
P. H.
Great staff and really handy place for ideas and leads if you are renovating or building from scratch
L. T.
I attended the 2 day free webinar that NSBRC ran as a way to find out more information on the different options available to me. WOW, so much information packed into 2 short days. A well run webinar with lots of different built types discussed by very knowledgeable people from varying companies and backgrounds. Came away with a far clearer idea of what self-build processes are available to me and also what the self-build process entails, tips and so much more. Can highly recommend NSBRC and look forward to when I can visit in person.
P. “. D.
Amazing place. If you're looking into anything self build we highly recommend, this was a specific day with talks going on but apparently is open all the time for the information and stands.
M. B.
A brilliant and well run resource for all things home related. If you want any ideas for home renovation or to build a new home this is the place to go!
M. L.
We went on two guided tours at the centre. ( The Renovation House and the New Build ) Both were hosted by Colin who has a passion that really makes all the information he is imparting all the more interesting and easy to understand.
The whole set up of the centre makes the experience of looking for information about almost any building topic easy with no attempts at hard selling any one product.
P. M.
Great place to go to meet suppliers and get ideas. Very pleasant staff. If attending one of their shows, avoid weekdays as you won't be able to park near the centre, they will direct you to free parking elsewhere in Swindon and then it's a free bus back. Which is OK, but adds quite a lot of time to your vist..
J. B.
Learnt a lot, worth going. We spent 2 days to get round all the stalls, talking to the exhibitors, going to talks. If you are looking at building or upgrading your home, go here first
A. M.
Great place for someone looking for renovation ideas or building a house from scratch.
J. T.
Definitely worthwhile visiting if you're planning a home renovation or extension. Make sure you walk round the renovation house and get the audio guide - it really helps you visualise the different stages of a build project. Exhibitors only man the stands on certain days, so you'll need to follow up yourself if you want any extra information.
B.
Probably better on an event day but on any other day there's not really anyone to talk to. Good set up otherwise though and the staff are very helpful and friendly.
S. B.
Fascinating industry sponsored (free) exhibition centre, showing off many new self build innovations, although big displays like the media centre / automated house is showing its age as Alexa and Google Assistant connected devices overtook the display case.
M. D.
The centre is a great resource for self-builders and runs many seminars, workshops and Q&A sessions. A few times a year there are big shows where you can meet and talk to professionals. There is nowhere else quite like the centre in the UK. It is well worth a visit and to wonder around perhaps during the week (where its much less busy).
For many people the NSBRC is an importaint first step along the self-build journey. It is particuarly strong on build systems and energy systems where you can learn a huge ammount.
Highly recommended.
L. R.
Great tour with Mike Hardwick covering foundations, building methods and materials. So informative and interesting. Thank you so much!
J. S. (.
if you're looking for information on how, where, what and why for renovating or building a house from scratch, then this is well worth a visit.
Informative free talks, lots of exhibitors from mortgage options to building systems.
I'll be back from more info soon...
C. H.
Really interesting place full of varied products. Went here for a seminar and spent most of my lunch trotting around looking at stuff. Not that I can afford to build my own house but I reckon it's a great starting point if you're interested in finding out how!
T. W.
This was a quick visit - you could spend hours here and dig deep into the building subject of your choice. From straw bale builds to stonework, groundwork to roofing. It is like a museum in that you can look at all the layers of building work like a dissection.
Lots of information to be had and help if you want it.
D. P.
Plenty of design innovations here and useful if you work in construction or are looking to design your own build or refurbishment. They offer courses on various design/build/refurb areas, as well as renewable technologies.
Staff are helpful. There's also a cafe.
J. P.
I went on a self build project management course at the NSBRC. I thought I knew quite a bit but went anyway. It was amazing !! I picked up so many useful bits form the course ... it literally helped with everything as soon as I got back home. Also great to meet the other self builders. Fantastic to have a NSBRC in the UK. Thank you to everyone there !!
B. L.
Highly recommended to anyone considering building work, whether self building a new home or even someone paying a contractor to do an extension. I'm a civil engineer and it was useful and informative for someone with knowledge in the industry!
A. K.
Place with bundle of ideas of modern construction. Excellent
C. E.
Very impressed with The NSBRC. Even though they preparing for a conference we were able to have a look around. So helpful if you are planning a self build or refurb and you are not in the trade. Clear info and not salesy at all. You are issued with a bar code reader so you select what is relevant and of interest, scan it, and the manufacturers get in touch thereafter. Very slick. Particular praise to Sharon who could not have been friendlier and more helpful when we pitched up for a look around.
J. P.
Anything you want to know about self build houses plus any kind of innovative improvement from roofing to septic tanks, solar to heat exchanges. All in one place, right beside the M4, too
M. K.
Outstanding and inspiring centre, great staff that are incredibly professional, all in one convenient place. The NSBRC are 'Business Against Homelessness' community champions 😁🤩😍 squarely committed to improving the life opportunities of others.

A. R.
What a good in site information place. Very informative from all forms of companies. No pressure from anyone. Everything under one roof. With experts on hand for any questions or queries you might have. A must if you are thinking if doing any building work.
R. B.
A bit small compared to other venues such as the NEC and exel centre, very difficult getting here using public transport from Swindon train station, it's out by the motorway in a car dominant environment. However it was interesting to visit
H. M.
It's a strange place, was in one of the conference rooms for uni lectures but loads of free parking little cafe for hot and cold drinks but not much in the way of food. Loved looking around the show homes.
W. H.
Amazing facility and ALL the staff were exceptional throughout.

The National Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon, is the UK’s only permanent venue designed specifically to meet the needs of anyone looking to undertake a self build, renovation or home improvement project!
Excellent location and really great service

Brilliant place to come for inspiration. Most stands aren't manned but you can scan the barcode and someone will get in touch.
D. F.
Great place if your planning for a project just don't go mad with the scanner for products to get sent to you. Our postman still doesn't talk to us !!
Z. H. G.
Awesome resource available to walk around for free, giving a great mixture of example building techniques and individual stands displaying the latest and greatest in home tech.
M. K.
Bizarre. Half closed, trying to be a conference centre as well as a source of self-build expertise. As quiet as a church, but accessible with free parking.
J. T.

L.
Fabulous access to extremely informative guests. A great service.
R. L.
