I trained with Gill for 15 years, and loved every lesson! Her school is a great environment to learn ballet, and Gill and all her teachers are so kind as well as being wonderful teachers! Would whole heartedly recommend her school for anyone wanting to learn ballet.

Our eldest daughter started over a year ago and our younger daughter joined this term. They have great fun and really look forward to ballet classes. Not only is it a safe, fun and stimulating environment for our girls, the level of attention and care is really exceptional. Teg who runs the School alongside Gill goes above and beyond to ensure it is all smooth and effortless for parents and students (from ensuring there are toys for siblings to play with for those not yet able to partake or just waiting for a sibling to finish, to pre-cleaning the halls, and much else). It takes enormous effort, grit and determination to make these events run in the way they do, and I am sure we only see a very small part of all the organisation and hard work that goes into it all. Thank you for all and we look forward to the next class.

Our girls love going to ballet class! Gill is an amazingly inspirational teacher! She is completely devoted to the progress of her pupils and leads by example with her indomitable spirit even through these troubled times. We are immensely grateful for her unwavering efforts while still creating an atmosphere of disciplined fun and sophistication for her aspiring ballerinas. Highly recommended.

I can strongly recommend West Hampstead School of Dance! Both my daughters have been attending their ballet lessons for a couple of years and they truly enjoy each and every class. The school has brilliant teachers that are both talented in their teaching skills but that can also make it fun for the children to learn according to the different ages. At the end of the term they offer a watching week which is brilliant because it allows parents to observe the dynamic of a class and the progress of their children. The girls take their exams at the Royal Academy of Dance and Gill, their teacher, is there with the girls all the time, helping them with their hair and outfits and building their confidence and trust in themselves before the exam. Additionally, last year my daughter danced in the show that the school puts together every other year, and I was very impressed, the whole production was very professional and everyone at West Hampstead School of Dance put in so much hard work.

I took so much from the years I spent at this school. I learnt how to work hard, focus and persevere in tough times. I especially loved the unique feeling compared to other ballet schools. It definitely felt more like a family and community, rather than just a place where I came to dance. A year ago I was accepted into a vocational ballet school and when I joined, even though I was 2 years of ballet behind the other girls (who boarded at the school since Year 6), I still ended up in the same year as them because of the amazing ballet technique I was taught at West Hampstead. I made friends I’ll have for life and teachers I’ll be grateful to forever. Whether you want to go into dance professionally, or you want to spark a life long connection and love for it. This is the place to train.

As my daughter, Annabel, has spent 10 years studying ballet at West Hampstead School of Dance, I feel qualified to recommend this ballet school to all parents who wish their children to both learn, as well as enjoy, ballet.
The school’s principal, Ms Gillian Winn, offers the full spectrum of Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) graded exams and every second year there is a beautifully-produced, on-stage ballet performance which is loved by all of her aspiring ballerinas – not to mention their delighted parents. Occasionally there is even an hilarious ‘Fathers and Daughters’ evening which, thankfully, is not staged!
I have always found Gill to be highly conscientious, diligent and supportive of her ballet students and most professional in the manner in which her school is run and organised. Indeed we discovered just how helpful she could be when we realised that our daughter's future in the world of ballet was in serious jeopardy – after being informed that she had been unsuccessful in gaining a finance-based scholarship to Tring Park School of the Performing Arts. Gill immediately leapt to our assistance and within two days we had arranged an impromptu audition at YDA (one of England’s leading vocational ballet schools) which subsequently resulted in Annabel’s enrolment as a full-time student.
In addition to being principal teacher, Gill engages several other highly-qualified teachers with special mention deservedly going to ‘Miss Suzi’ who was of enormous and inestimable benefit to our daughter.
Thank you to all at West Hampstead School of Dance – we shall certainly remain in contact!

I can highly recommend West Hampstead School of Dance! My daughter joined the school two years ago, aged 11, and has progressed at an impressive speed and is already working at RAD intermediate level (mening she is on pointe). She now trains three times per week and loves it! The teachers have always been kind and attentive at the same time as pushing to get the children to reach their full potential. Gillian Winn is an amazing teacher who is clearly passionate about producing accomplished dancers. For anyone looking for a ballet school for their child, look no further.

My two daughters have been taught ballet with the West Hampstead School of Dance for almost 9 years. One daughter is en pointe and the other is preparing for her Grade 5 exam. The classes are focussed, thorough and thoughtful. The teachers actively will reach out when problems arise and are always committed to the progression of the students. Timetables are consistent and the locations are convenient for busy families - and of course there is the wonderful show - every two years - which is a proper performance - a pleasure for both the dancers and the audience!

My daughter has been learning ballet at West Hampstead School of Dance since she was about 4 years old. We had tried another school and she didn't seem to enjoy it (for several reasons I think)- then we came across Gill and her wonderful team, and a Saturday morning class which suited her perfectly! She is now almost 18 and dances at vocational level 3 times a week, has done well in exams and performed in all the productions (pictures on the website) and most of all really enjoys her classes. I can honestly say they kept her going during GCSEs and continue through "A"-levels! The teachers are professional and really care about the students' progress and wellbeing, a professional approach to classes and productions, great friendships and teamwork have been developed and fostered. Now looking forward to our little one starting soon...thank you all!

My daughter joined West Hampstead School of Dance late 2016 and we have never looked back. Her love of dance has grown having been guided by caring professionals and surrounded by like minded peers who also want to learn and do well.
Each lesson the teachers cover a huge amount of the RAD syllabus (recognised the world over) in a very fun, attentive and conducive way to learning. Many a time Gill has had the class laughing out loud which demonstrates her ability to put students at ease whilst learning solid technique. The classes are extremely focused without being rigid and my daughter has gone from strength to strength gaining distinctions in all her exams despite the increasing skill difficulty.
The space of each studio is always clean, pleasant, well lit/heated and locations are mostly central with waiting areas which make it convenient for families with other children.
At the end of term we are allowed to watch a class and in the summer / at Christmas the students take part in dance festivals and shows which are a great way to bring everything they have learnt to life and gain confidence / recognition for their hard work.
Judging by the post class smiles and home practice I am certain my daughter enjoys every lesson - so much so, that thanks to Gill's nurturing guidance, advice and support, as well as attending WHSD my daughter is now a Junior Associate at the Royal Ballet. To quote my daughter on first joining WHSD a year ago "I feel like I've come home."

Both my daughters loved their time here and flourished in every way. When my younger daughter wanted to return after a few years absence she was welcomed with open arms and has been able to catch up and fully participate again despite the previous gap. She adores her classes, loves Gillian's rigorous but warm style, and has gained enormously in confidence since rejoining.

Both my daughters have been at here for many years. Neither are natural dancers but somehow Suzi has transformed them into two beautiful ballerinas. They have made great friends over the years!
