What lovely staff. Looked after me from the first contact. Not easy when you have had 15 years not visiting a dentist due to anxiety. I was a mess, they have fixed me with care, support and skill. I can smile again. Thank you all at Acomb, receptionists, hygienist and nurses but especially Dr Alan.

Called Acomb Dental Clinic on Front Street to review a troublesome tooth which has bothered me for some time. As ever, the team were very professional and the dentist, Chris Hand, diagnosed the problem very quickly after a thorough examination. He has given me some alternative treatments to consider, so it is now up to me to decide the way forward. Not an ideal way to spend half an hour of your time, but if you are looking for dental treatment, Acomb Dental is highly recommended.

I’ve attended a couple of times this year for hygienist appointments. Both times Natalie assisted. I found her to be extremely knowledgeable and passionate about dental hygiene, and very positive and friendly. She talked me through my dental routines and gave me some really good advice. Laura the hygienist was very friendly immediately made me feel at ease and relaxed throughout my appointment talking me through each stage.

I cannot thank Lynda enough for her kind, compassionate and exemplary work today! I have never had an injection in my gum… I have had fillings without injections as my fear and anxiety are so strong! Lynda today has performed a wisdom tooth extraction for me, she was absolutely amazing. Told me just the right amount of information; put me at ease, kind and compassionate when I had a wee cry. I felt no pain or discomfort through the extraction, honestly cannot thank you enough for looking after me so well and being so efficient with the treatment. Highly recommend Acomb dental practice!

Our first time at Acomb Dental today and I haven't got a bad word to say. Every member of staff we spoke to was unbelievably friendly, we ended up talking their ears off at the reception counter. A really smooth and efficient experience especially considering all of the covid restrictions! Dentist happily answered all questions (of which my partner had many). I can't recommend this practice highly enough, we won't be going anywhere else!!

The hygienist was very friendly making conversation with me before explain what she was going to do at every stage of the clean. Existing patient returning to essential treatment after a pause. From initial recent contact to making the appointment staff were transparent, gave clear information and were thorough in dealing with my needs whilst very protective of me and themselves re Covid 19. I was managed properly from arrival outside the surgery to leaving after treatment with a member of staff with me at all times. No wandering around or reading a magazine waiting for the appointment that began on time. The protective procedures are working quite well. The treatment was as per the pre appointment tel consultation. Very pleased of the addition qualifications gained by dentist regarding restorative work. Knowledge of the staff is very good and delivered in plain English without woffle. Standard of treatment on the day was excellent as usual. The clinic may like to update website info re attending the surgery as different to that on the day of appointment that seems to have evolved from an idea to what works in reality at the surgery.

I always feel at ease when I go to my appointments (to the point where I could probably fall asleep in the chair!) and everything is explained very clearly. This is absolutely paramount to me, especially after going through a series of traumatic dental surgeries as a youngster. I've been going to the surgery for a few years now and I would not go anywhere else (even though I live much further away now!). It is obvious that everyone in the team works very well together, this certainly shines through in the manner that is given towards patients - everyone who works at Acomb dental is so integral to making the surgery such a success.

Have had 2 bad experiences at dental practices in the past which has made me frightened of going but since Paul has taken over my care he is slowly gaining my confidence and making me slightly less nervous of attending for check ups and treatment. This dental practice has completely change my life! Before I found this practice every 6 months I would face extreme anxiety and sleepless nights as my routine dental appointment came closer and closer. I would get family to book my dental appointments for me and only ask them to tell me the date the day before my appointment. I would cry and shake in the chair and this was only just for a check up! One day I decide enough was enough and started to look at private dentists. I came across this practice as I saw that they specialised in nervous patients, since finding this practice I haven’t looked back. They are AMAZING, truly life changing!! Where to begin, the practice is in a converted house, It doesn’t smell or even look like a dental practice, which helps as when you are there you don’t feel like you are in a dentist surgery at all. You are always greeted by a smiling receptionist, the waiting room has current, interesting magazines and there is always some informative poster on the wall. They always have lots of free samples for you take away and the practice is very clean and tidy. They also have quotes on the wall like ‘you don’t need to clean all your teeth, just the ones you want to keep’ It truly is the staff that make this practice though, they are incredible patient, sympathetic and SO understanding. When they are doing anything (even just a check up) they explain everything to you. They remember conversations that you had with them last time you saw them and also give you a full feedback on your oral health. Sarah, my guardian angel (or hygienist) is incredible with me. She has an infectious, jolly personality, and before I even sit in the chair she has me laughing. She has lots of photos pinned to her ceiling which takes your mind off the treatment and she always tells me about some good TV to watch. She numbs my gums before cleaning my teeth and as I am nervous she has a large soft toy that acts as a stress ball. Nelly (the soft toy) is always waiting for me when I go into the room. I have never had any treatments (fillings etc) as i’ve never needed to. They have lots of drugs that they can give you and lots of different types of options for example white fillings. Sadly, my normal dentist Paul has left the practice now. This change would have once left me in a state of panic but now i’m very chilled out about this change. I completely trust this practice, they have some how been able to rid me of my dental anxiety. Even if you are thinking about the practice, just give them a call and they will be happy to chat with you. When reviewing a service I always like to offer ‘improvement advice’. The only thing that I would say is there is no parking at the practice, they do have disabled parking though. There is a huge car park just down the road though, its less than a 5 minute walk and you can always find a spot to park in. I travel an hour to this dentist and I just wouldn’t change practices. Lots of friends and family now go there and I am always recommending them. 5 Stars really isnt enough! Thank you!

Have been a patient at this practice now for over four years, having followed, my dentist Paul Calder here when he joined the practice. I have nothing but praise for all the staff who are really friendly and very professional. The receptionist Gill Reed is an absolute gem, nothing is too much trouble, she arranges appointments etc and just knows exactly what it is you need. I hadn't been to a Dentist properly in 10 years due to a long standing dental phobia. Having found myself with two broken teeth I thought I should have some dental attention. Despite my nerves, everyone at Acomb Dental were very friendly and were able to alleviate a lot of my fears. Chris the Dentist was able to put me further at ease and backed it up by actually performing my dental repairs with the minimum of discomfort. After 5 visits to the Practice in April 2016, including one to Greta the Hygienist (which was a new experience for me and left my teeth with the wind whistling through them in a way I never knew they could) I'm left now wondering what all the fuss was about and why I hadn't been throughout all this time. I've even signed up for Denplan now - just to make sure I keep going along for those important 6 monthly check-ups and Hygienist appointments.

If like me you thought there is no such thing as a dentist that can offer pain free dentistry without compromising clinical excellence then think again!!! Like so many other people I too had a total fear of visiting the dentist, not any more. I kid you not, Acomb Dental is the real deal. For many years I would avoid at all costs having to go anywhere near a dentist. Those days have totally gone and I mean totally and utterly gone thanks to the care and attention I received at Acomb Dental. Dentist: Paul Calder: Professional, clinically brilliant, totally pain free, caring, customer focused and above all patient!! are just a few words I can say about this guy. Seriously go see him, go right now!!! I was in total fear of having to go see a dentist, then via a recommendation I went along to Acomb Dental to see Paul. He did what oh so many dentists fail to do, he listened to me and I mean listened. He actually spent time putting me at ease. He went onto deliver the best dental experience I have ever had. Totally pain free and a few brilliant beautiful White fillings later I was done. I couldn't believe it, I'd finally found a caring, patient dentist and if you think I am exaggerating about being frightened well lets put it this way I had to have the dental nurse hold my hand. Dental Hygienist: Greta Compton. I have visited Greta on several occasions at Acomb Dental. Greta personifies dental care and clinical excellence,she brings a whole new dimension to oral hygiene. After several visits with Greta she had my teeth and gums in tip top condition like never before. Now I smile with an air of confidence care of Greta.
