Hi, my partner had a problem with his ear today , called in the surgery and a wonderful young chap with dark hair came out, smiled and with a ‘can do’ attitude said no problem he would help, following this my partner saw Dr Dix? Who was young , helpful and amazing and solved the problem!
This experience of great service is so unusual these days we just want to say a big thank you’

Frustrated doesn't begin to cover it, just for a simple prescription for my asthmatic wife. We are new patients, everything has been handled really well and professionally.
To cut a long story short, I was advised to get my wife to write a letter asking for a repeat prescription and the inhalers required - one being a preventer and extremely urgent as the surgery have been advised.
I dropped the letter in, with the lady at the door briefly looking at it and saying OK no problem. I called today and they couldn't locate the patient for the letter - nothing was portrayed to us as to what was needed on the letter other than the inhalers required.
The receptionist then said my wife would need to speak to someone regarding the prescription as we are new patients - yet we were told last week to write a letter!
The frustration is a week further on from signing up, and now being told my wife needs to speak to someone not write a letter. My wife works where a phone call from the doctor is kind of difficult to arrange. Let's hope they are willing to speak to me to get this resolved as its frustrating to be a week on and still no prescription.
Do people talk to each other in this practice? Otherwise, we have had a good smooth experience here - let's hope its a one off miscommunication.

UPDATE: Not sure what has happened but it's not the place it once was. It is nothing to do with the doctors - they are excellent, but getting an urgent appointment is impossible if you work or have other commitments which mean you can't sit and wait from 8am. Reception staff also are pretty unhelpful now when they used to do everything in their power to squeeze you in. Have resorted to getting private GP appointments on two occasions now. There are many reasons why people cannot rock up and wait for 90 minutes to be seen, and the absence of urgent afternoon appointments is inflexible. I doubt much will be done - it's a busy surgery and I guess they can rest on their laurels to some extent. It's not working though. The paragraph below is my original post - see how it's changed:
ORIGINAL POST: Have been registered here for years. First class surgery; have never been turned away when needing an urgent appointment and all the doctors and reception staff are kind, patient and understanding. You can't always see the doctor of your choice in an emergency but all are great so it doesn't matter. Moved house a few years ago and checked surgery's catchment area....would only consider houses that enabled me to stay with the practice.

To be offered a same day appointment service by any GP surgery in today's climate of unmanageable patient expectations and a dwindling primary care workforce is an achievement.
GPs compassionate, clinically sound and make you feel at ease.
Receptionists welcoming and smile.

My partner is registered to this surgery and I had an appointment with Dr Thomas De Souza, and he was very friendly and helpful. I wish I could register in stead of being registered with a surgery called ALBANY SURGERY where I have been trying to get an appointment for the last 4 weeks. I need help and would like to register with you.
