Reviews of Mill Road Surgery
C. S.
I've had such a positive experience I just wanted to review. The receptionist team are always so kind and nice and Dr Foley who I have recently seen twice recently, is by far the nicest, most professional Doctor I have ever seen. She has been patient, kind, and nothing is too much trouble. Considering how under pressure the NHS are overall, Mill Road Dr Surgery have quite honestly been fantastic with me. I just want to thank the staff and especially Dr Foley for setting my mind at ease and listening to my concerns.

Can’t praise this doctors surgery enough.
The receptionists, pharmacy, health care assistants and doctors are all amazing.
I have had to call up for home visits for injections, blood tests and being unwell, the paramedic or doctor always arrive within the time frame given.
Totally professional, courteous and respectful.
A change to my previous surgery.
Many thanks.

Moved to the area nearly a year ago and had a new horn around the same time. Since we moved doctors we have had nothing but great service from ALL of the staff at the surgery, I have never been here and have left disappointed. I can’t thank them all enough, especially when my little boy has been poorly they couldn’t be more nicer and a accommodating.
Best surgery in colchester and I’ve been to 3/4

I've been with this surgery for 4 years now and I just can't fault them. They are absolutely brilliant. They really do their best for everyone. All the staff, receptionists, admin, secretaries, doctor's, nurses, paramedics. Thank you for looking after my family.

Dr Sumitha Senthilnathan - I have seen many doctors in this practice and been very disappointed with their service but I was moved to Dr Sumitha Senthilnathan and she has been a diamond! Leaves no stone unturned and really cares about her patients. She has made me feel very comfortable when others haven't and hasn't given up on me when others have. If you're thinking of joining here request to have her as your GP she will not let you or your family down. A* GP

An update to my previous review.
My experience after that first encounter has been positive.
Special thanks to Mrs. Michelle White, who was so polite and understanding and very kind to us!
Also, our diabetes specialist, Mrs. Shelley Hawkes was amazing. Thorough, competent, professional and knowledgeable!
Mrs. Lorraine Crisp was also very polite and professional.
Overall has been a great experience after that first trip. Have upgraded from 1 to 4 stars now. Hopefully will continue to get good services in the future.

I have received a far better service of care at this surgery than I did in 5 years at my last. The staff are helpful and nice, the doctors actually listen and take the time to talk through your concerns. I have been treated like a human here, they deserve a high five!

I was very impressed About this Gp! After 6 years lived In London I finally find a professional team, always ready to help ! The reception stuff is nice and friendly! The building is clean and easy to use , the nurses are always friendly and kind !

The care itself is what you would expect from a GP surgery. However the surgery lacks a decent number of front of house/phone staff. The phone lines open at 8am, I have called at 8:08am and was in hold for 50 minutes. This has happened on numerous occasions. If you call beyond 8:04am then be prepared to be on hold for a very long time and of course there will be no appointments.
I don't think hiring an extra person or two to handle the high call load during the rush hour would be a stretch. But however this issue is resolved, a solution would be great.

I've been at this GP since 2013, and have gone for various examinations, blood tests and prescriptions. The staff are very friendly and polite, the surgery is clean and tidy. The front staff are trying their best.
Like many of the down votes / poorer reviews, the queuing system to get an appointment is definitely the let down attribute (1star off).
However, many surgeries fall into this category, not just Mill Road.
-- Appointments / front office staff.
(this morning, a wednesday...- during Covid)
I called at 8:00 on the dot, and the line was closed, redialed and entered the queue at 08:01, there were 29 already in the queue.
At 08:14 I was #1, and by 08:21 I had an appointment/call booked with the GP ... 20minutes in covid is still very good times being met.
You really do have to call on the dot though, and they do tell you that!!!
I have called at 08:20 before, queued for an 45mins, and all the slots have been taken, if you are calling after 08:15, seriously don't bother, try tomorrow.
If you *really* do have an emergency or feel it is urgent, there is a walk in service near Colchester General hospital that you can use.
For perspectives, a similar call pre-covid calling at 8am, you would be starting the queue at ~15-20. I always used to fist pump and am mildly happy when I get in the top 10.
GPs,
Long are the days that you get a specific GP, if you want one, you can try and call through the line and hope they're working on the specific day you need them & get added to their call list / (face to face: precovid), but if you do, you will severely limit your chances in getting seen.
The time slots are limited to 10mins.
I have had the pleasure of having a fair number of their GPs over the years. I can't think of any that are particularly negative.
To address some of the other reviews here,
> Dr. De silva is very straight forward and may appear abrupt/insensitive but he is really GOOD and efficient, he was able to advise and order the necessary tests and suggest & correct me on the specialist to see.
> Dr. Senthil has a very VERY good telephone manner and reminds me of a kind/understanding Auntie and answered most of my questions within my time slot, explained my results and suggested next steps and wrote to the specialist that made sense via the NHS.
^^ Please, try not to be a 'Doctor' & become a hypochondriac and tell them how to do their job, it isn't helpful and theres tests that are required to rule out the vast number of ailments your symptoms can point to.
By all means get a 2nd/3rd opinion.
-- For those needing prescriptions/repeats, (depending on what they are) they do have paramedics and some nurses that can prescribe and it can be done over the phone to be picked up at a pharmacy within 1-2 days, it doesn't *have* to be a GP. I had mine sent to Asda Pharmacy.

Excellent surgery. Friendly receptionists and medical staff. The GP’s are very thorough and explain everything clearly and after care is first rate too.

Took both my elderly parents for flu jab appointment today. Lovely Lady in the car park arranged for a doctor to come out to the car to do it for them. This took the worry off myself as trying to get both my parents out of the car isn’t quite so easy.
Thank-you so much to all at mill road surgery.

Having an autistic child is so hard for the child & his loving parents but I cannot praise this surgery & Dr Carpenter enough. Her patience, understanding, support & help is outstanding. She truely is one of the best GP's I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Well done & a massive thank you from our hearts.

I had a fasting blood test one morning . I asked the nurse if she could test for other things like Cholesterol , kindy and liver functions. She refused and said that my GP had ordered only for sugar level. She didn't even take my blood pressure when I asked her. I was supposed to have a 30 minutes appointment according to their letter they sent me. When I saw my GP a week after for the results , she said that the nurse could have tested my blood for other things as well and no need for a repeat blood test again. Waste of my time really. Some nurses are so mean .
