Reviews of King's College NHS Health Centre (KCL Staff & Students only - Not a walk-in centre)

really big thank you to Dr Mona, Dr Mountain, Nurse Aimee and HCA Ayako. The loveliest kindest people I have spoken to. Really cared about my problems and are really helpful.
However there is one GP that I wont name who I did not feel cared for my feelings or issues, I went to speak about my mental health and I was sort of brushed off, prescribed medication and that was it. I asked for counselling and it didn’t feel like they wanted to even do anything to help.
Only downside is the GP mentioned, everyone else is great.

The reception team and nurses are absolutely amazing here. Anytime I have any query with organising appointments or medication they are so helpful and get it sorted asap. Also a massive thank you to Shanni and Amie for being so lovely and friendly!

I am submitting a positive review because I have generally had exceptional care at the Health Centre and it seems like most of the written reviews are negative.
If you have a serious physical or mental health problem, the GPs are incredibly kind and helpful, and, in my experience, are over-cautious when it comes to referrals and pathology tests so I’m never worried that I’m not being listened to/taken seriously.
This being said, I do tend to agree with the other reviews about a male doctor at the practice; though I would say only that he does not have a demeanour or manner of communicating that is suitable for everyone. I like explanation, and I feel as though he likes reduction. Regardless, it’s a health centre, and as others have pointed out, Drs Park and Mountain are truly exceptional general practitioners. It’s never been a problem to request a specific or alternative doctor.

Experience really varies depending on who you see. Dr Park is exceptional, and handles mental health problems with great care. The male GP (who I won't name publically) is often complained about amongst everyone I know for his curt and dismissive attitude to mental health problems. Wait times for appointments are long and many of the reception staff are abrupt and at times border on rude (there are a couple who are lovely). I've had multiple positive blood tests that I wasn't contacted about, and I had to chase to get my results explained. One test has also been overlooked entirely, despite being a potentially serious health issues.
The HCAs are great, very reassuring and efficient. Whenever I've needed bloods taken they've made it a much more pleasant experience.
My advice with this surgery is to download Airmid, book your appointment, on there, and keep a close eye on your medical record as you often aren't contacted about new results. Also request Dr Park or Dr Mountain specifically if you have mental health issues you want to discuss.

Often I feel very welcome but sometimes I don't. its very variable, often depending on who is at reception. Regarding GPs, all doctors I have been to until now were great and understanding with whatever my struggles were. However, my friend who struggles opening up to people about the way she feels just had a completely horrible telefone appointment with one doctor, not taking her eating struggles seriously and being very insensitive by bringing things like BMI up that triggered her. So basically, you can have a great experience one day with one doctor and a horrible one the next day with another, choose wisely who you go to.
