Reviews of University Health Service
C. H.
I have livend in various parts of the UK for 30 years and been registered with 6 GP practices. I changed practice twice because of poor service and once made a formal complaint. Never been to impressed, everybody is overworked. I have never before left a review on google, but this practice is soo good that i can't not share it.
When we moved in the area a neighbourgh had just lost her hursband, we went to offer condolencies and all she could talk about was how kind her GP (Dr Armstrong) had been thought the process and how many times had visited. I thought, "I want that GP".
Dr Armstrong is great, like many GPs but what is remarkable is that every single interaction I have had with the practice, receptionists, telephone, nurses .. has been great. Kind and efficient would summ it up but to manage this all the tme, in these times is quite impressive.

The nurse Trudie is absolutely fabulous, really helpful, informative and makes the experience of visiting the surgery all that little bit better.

Extremely efficient - friendly and professional staff put everyone at ease while they had their vaccines. Very impressive! I was grateful to have my vaccine here.

I recently had to see Dr Prendergast at University Health Service. I was very anxious about this appointment, however I was treated with sincerity, kindness, compassion and professionalism. He has subsequently followed me up on numerous occasions, I have felt very well supported and if I had any concerns at all that I could contact him if needed.
The reception staff were very polite, professional and tried their very best to find me a suitable appointment time, given that I work.
In addition to this, I have always had good experiences with the nursing staff at the Practice.
I feel that a lot of reviews tend to focus on the negative, so from a grateful patient, thank you all so very much.

Excellent!!! I have been to many different surgeries before this one, and this is the only one that never let me wait for more than 10 days for a normal GP appointment. Dr James always patiently listen to my story and carefully advise me on what to do, regardless of the language barrier as I’m not a native English speaker. The receptionist and nurses (especially Jenny) are understanding and amazing. Feeling so bad that I have to change my GP since I move to a new house. But I strongly recommend this practice to anyone living in their coverage area.

Went to university health service yesterday for first time to have covid vaccine 1st dose.Friendly women at the door. Didnt have long to wait to been seen to have vaccine. Had to wait 15 minutes after vaccine. Had good chat with others who had just had 1st dose.

The reception staff at this surgery are very helpful. They are the 'gate keepers' for every patient that walks through the surgery door, they get blamed for so much, especially if you can't get an appointment. Its not their fault, they can only give you what the have. The doctors and nurses are pleasant, overall my husband and I have been pleased with the surgery.

Brilliant. Had an appointment with Dr Prendergast and he was great, went above and beyond to help get me sorted. Reception staff were also really friendly.

I used another email and name to register. The name shown on this website is my preferred name.
The doctor I saw gave me the bad experience, and I feel angry about this. I feel unwell for several weeks, many illnesses happen at the same time, and I cannot still tolerate. But unfortunately, I look very healthy in the day time, and the doctor did some check for me and found there is nothing unnormal. Thus, the doctor said I am well, and there is no problem.
However, if I have no problem and feel well, why I went to see the doctor? I said I really feel unwell at midnight and the doctor said it is a normal situation and I need to tolerate for it....
I have already tolerated several weeks....
I said, "it is very annoying." And the doctor replied, "life is annoying."
Because these illnesses are very annoying, so I think there is no problem that I would like to fix it. Thus, why I need to tolerate the sickness that seems "not serious"? It seems pretty ridiculous that I feel pretty pretty unwell, but I seem healthy, and the doctor cannot find there exist unnormal situation on me, then what only thing I can do is tolerate it.
And also, the doctor said she could not find my problem, and she also cannot give me the medicine and told me I need to do exercise.
I am sorry I haven't left a review before because I feel sad and angry at that time, very irritable. I don't want to hurt people through my diction.
I do not indicate the doctor's name; maybe she was trying to do what she can do. But I need some useful suggestion, even told me the other doctor who maybe can find my problem and heal my illness. I hope the doctor can give me useful suggestions, but .....
Thanks

A mixed bag really - some GPs are very good, some are pretty awful. The receptionists are uniformly unhelpful and often rude - but that seems to be the case in all GPs surgeries I've ever been to. You often have to wait quite a while for an appointment (as in most GP surgeries), but you can book online which helps.
Once you get a good GP (I recommend Drs Armstrong and Bannister) then the treatment and care is excellent!

Been with this surgery nearly two years now and it's very hit and miss. A simple form I enquired about and was told by the doctor to go to the post office?! Then by two receptionists that there's no form as the certificate I need will come in the mail; told me to ask the pharmacy! Finally three weeks later, the fourth person tells me the form is sitting in reception. Absolute run around! Doctors can think they're being truthful when actually to a PATIENT, it's just rude.

I have always been seen fairly promptly when I have had to have an appointment. GP's practices all over the country are experiencing a huge amount of pressure but this practice is managing it well. I have always been seen by friendly and caring GP's who have treated me with compassion. Best practice I have been to in a long time!

Really lovely and considerate, I felt nervous about a blood test and they weren't patronising at all, super empathetic and genuinely seemed to care - very helpful and kind people :)

Have been attending this practice for many years and have always found it to be excellent. All Doctors have been superb, Jane the Nurse Practisioner is also excellent and the Reception staff are friendly, polite and very efficient.

Very understanding doctors and nurses who have been stellar in helping manage complex health issues. Easily the best gp surgery I've been to, would highly recommend.

I've been a patient here for over three years and have always had the most prompt and highly professional service from all the staff I have dealt with. I highly recommend them.

Fantastic surgery. The first time a doctor has really taken the time to look at my medical history and really help. Can't recommend this place enough!

I have never had a bad experience in the four years I've been registered here. Staff are experienced, friendly and very helpful.

Receptionists tend to be abrupt and service over the phone isn't much better, but everything's still fully functional

Does not serve all university students (as do other University services such as at Bristol). Only serves students within a limited catchment area
