I’ve been working with Roger now for a few months to correct a few mistakes in my training with my ESS. The improvement has well exceeded my expectations, and has allowed me to enter novice competitions with my dog and actually come home with some awards. Training a dog to this standard is something I thought I would never be able to do. Roger has a wide range of skills and techniques in his repertoire to get the best result from the dog and I like his firm but fair approach. Seeing my dog improve in each session and during the homework is making training much more enjoyable and has greatly improved my bond with the dog. My dog now want to work to please me and not herself and is calmer, more obedient and happier.

Firstly, thank you to Roger for help us train a now well behaved dog. We have been going to Roger for about 6 months now, to help us with our working cocker spaniel. We started going when he was 6 months old and have never looked back. Every session has been a great learning experience for us as owners and has massively changed the way we train and interact with our dog. We now have an obedient, well behaved dog who is a pleasure to be around. He has helped us create a dog who is relaxed when we go out for dinner/pub with our dog, so much so that most of the time people don’t realise the dogs there. He has helped us with retrieval and massively helped with recall, which was a big issue for us. We look forward to seeing Roger every month and have a completely different dog to when we started. Roger has helped me take our six month old delinquent working Labrador and set him on the road to being a competent, well behaved companion and retriever. Highly knowledgeable about working breeds and working dog training techniques, Roger has coached me in techniques tailored to our dogs abilities and personality, rather than training our dog for us. What I have gained is an understanding of how to go about getting the most out of our dog. We have also practically prevented issues like de-sensitising to distractions such as rabbits, poultry and livestock, loud noises such as gunshot (and fireworks) and advise on preventing separation anxiety. The coaching sessions with Roger have been as enjoyable as they are informative and I highly recommend Dovesflight to anyone who wishes to understand and train their working breed dog. You simply cannot get this tailored approach to handler and dog from books and videos. Thankyou Roger, a Labrador companion is great, a well behaved Labrador is priceless.

We first took Willow, our WCS to Roger when she was 14months, after our own training had let us down and the ‘usual’ teenage years crept in and Willow was taking no notice of us on walks and lack of respect at home. Roger immediately got us to be more confident and assertive through our body language and our manner towards Willow. Roger is very experienced, knowledgable, calm, yet assertive and gave us the guidance and tips to progress things at home. As with anything you have to put the work in yourselves, but this definitely pays off and you see improvements, but it isn’t an overnight fix, stick with it you will soon see the rewards. Roger explained that you have to appreciate the breed of dog you have and understand their needs, drive and therefore the style of training. We now have a much calmer, happier, obedient Willow, who is very much part of the family and who we thoroughly enjoy. We would highly recommend Roger, only wish we’d found him sooner.

First of all, I want to say a massive thank you to Roger. Few months ago I was struggling with two Vizla, I didn’t have any control over my dogs and I was going through a really hard time with those 2. I love my dogs but I can say that I was feeling so hopeless that I thought about finding a nice family to have them…. And I meet Roger What a life saving, first training was unbelievable life changing. He is amazing and he deserves all the credits! Excellent professional and so knowledgable. I can highly recommend Roger for anyone looking at dog training. He helped me turn around my 3 year old cocker spaniel with a lot of issues including heal work, loose lead walking and recall. I can't recommend Roger highly enough! We came to him with a manic 'lock-down puppy' that was like an exocet on a lead. It's now walking to heel off the lead, can be recalled by whistle, and sits calmly when instructed to do so. Every dog is different, but Roger helps you and your dog (a lot of learning for both) create a partnership based upon trust and understanding.

Roger is an excelkent trainer. Our young gundog is coming on well and is unrecognisable from the uncontrollable ball of energy he was in our first session. Roger trains me so that in-between our sessions I can train the dog effectively and make steady progress on both obedience and gundog skills. We have been going to Roger for around two months now and we have been seeing a lot of progress with our almost 12 month old golden retriever. Roger has been helping us mainly with general obedience at the moment along with lead work which went from constant pulling to lovely heel work all in one session. I was first ‘dragged’ into Rogers training class by my overly enthusiastic Working Cocker Spaniel about 3 months ago. In all honesty he’s been a god send! We’ve learnt everything from back to basics on the lead,steadiness around animals which he has in his paddock & brought in the whistle to command her. She’s made a massive improvement, and we really enjoy our training sessions. Roger has a firm but fair approach. A very likeable,patient man, who gives you the confidence to train your dog well. Also my arm is safely back in its socket where it belongs.

We have been taking our 2 year old dog to Roger for regular training sessions over the last couple of months and have seen a significant improvement during this time. We have been taking our puppy to Roger now for 5 months and I would highly recommend him. His private padock is a fantastic large space offering lots of distractions to aid desensitisation and training with rabbits, chickens, geese and other dogs (which are all secure and only introduced when appropriate). Roger is traditional in his methods and breaks everything down into sections and explains the theory behind it; explaining the dogs behaviour / reactions in such a simple way. His years of experience and knowledge is evident and we feel confident that the methods we have learned from him will last. So many light bulb moments but just not always obvious without his guidance. I am so glad we started our dog's training early on, because at 7 months we already have a puppy who respects us, is a joy to live with and is constantly learning and obeying his boundaries. We are so pleased with the progress made so far and look forward to every session. I urge you to start early. So much easier to implement from the start rather than undo bad habits (which we still had even when taking him for his first session at 12 weeks old). Roger is calm, assertive but also so friendly. After 5 months, already we feel we have such a good relationship with him that we have a joke and laugh during the sessions too. We also know he's at the end of the phone in between sessions should we need to discuss any concerns with what we have learned. We are excited to see how our boy will progress with further training and guidance from Roger.

I approached Roger a few weeks into having my 8 week spaniel pup. I knew I wanted a calm, well balanced dog and that I would need guidance to get there. My last dog left me rather nervous and I didnt want to pass that on or make the same mistakes. My spaniel is 6 months old now and I couldnt be more thrilled with him. I was recommended to Roger after struggling to find a way to handle my rescue 31/2 yr old working cocker. Baloo is a pet and I did not need a Gundog trainer but Roger was able to set me up with all the basics. We had around 8 lessons with 3 or 4 weeks inbetween giving time to really work on what is being taught. I was impressed with this and didn't feel I was being pushed to spend more money than we were actually ready for. Our walks were frustrating and not alot of fun at all as he had not walked on a lead before. His recall was also a problem. With Rogers experience hints and tips we are enjoying our walks. The confidence Roger has given me is so appreciated as I had started to worry I would never be able to give this little dog what he needed and quite frankly was not what I wanted either!! Thankyou Roger , and if I can get him retrieving a dummy I'll be back for some Gun Dog training.

Roger is doing a fantastic job in helping us and our rather stubborn clumber spaniel in basic obedience/gun dog training. ‘ I had problems with our retired racing greyhound (Jed). He became over excited and aggressive when he saw other breeds of dogs. Roger was quick to assess Jed's behaviour and he immediately gave me confidence in my ability to handle the dog. Over a few sessions we saw a marked improvement in Jed's behaviour. Roger worked on socialising with other breeds of dogs and recall. Jed is now responding to his name and is a much happier dog.
