Reviews of Sue Kewley Practice Reactive Dog Specialist

I am the fur mumma to a now 2 year old Staffy boy!
I first contacted Sue with an extremely noise reactive/ fearful young dog who was becoming more and more panicky with each walk. Loki would freeze at a bin lid slamming, a loud motorbike, a bird scarer, a van door slamming, fireworks (oh my goodness 😢).
We were desperate. I had begun using a thunder vest for him indoors and even tried this under his harness with my running armband on his back! I figured music playing from my phone might mask any noises!!?! It didn’t work obviously! Loki is a wonderful loving dog who had become freaked out by the world. The “thought” that there may be an unexpected sound became enough to prevent him from getting out of the car some days. When he did hear a loud noise his legs would simply stop working and we would have 23KG of shaking fur baby who just couldn’t walk. It broke my heart! 💔
With Sues help, we removed the scary world from his life. Sue works with our vet already and advised us to discuss some medication to help the boy. The vet communicated with Sue and Loki began his meds.
He entered what we called “rehab” and learnt through games how to feel relaxed, how to focus on his hoomans when in a difficult situation, and very importantly, how to enjoy his life without worry. Sue tailored our programme to work with our busy home. She gave us different types of games/ training for different members of the family, specific to how they love to interact and play with Loki. Loki still fears fireworks but, we can now encourage him to engage with us and his favourite toy. He will play a high energy tuggy game for 2 or 3 minutes, then we lower the excitement to some yummy food treats while he begins to relax on his bed. Within 10 minutes Loki is happy again and will join us in the front room. 6 months ago he would have been a shaking mess for 1-2 hours with us all being unable to move him from the kitchen, let alone getting him to focus on anything other than the noise!
Sue told us from the beginning this may take longer than the initial programme but to be patient and follow it through.
At times life has got in the way of our training but Sue has always been on the end of the phone when needed. We even had a quick zoom call during a lunch hour one day!
Loki has worked hard and now I’m so proud to say that the world is becoming a whole lot less scary and Loki is so much more confident! He has learnt coping strategies (as have we….) and I am a whole lot less tense when working with him! Sue arranged a back up sedative for us to carry when we do get out for walks. We’re all
praying that we won’t need it but it’s reassuring to know we have it as a safety net.
Loki is now managing 15 mins out of his safe place, ie: his home and garden and Sue is supporting us with the next step of a new location to introduce him too!! We are soooo grateful to all the work that Sue has put in with us all as a family. When you receive Sues voice notes in response to another progress video sent, you can hear that she is almost as overjoyed as we are.
We can’t thank Sue enough for helping to give Loki, and us, a second chance. Still a long journey ahead of us but with the right tools and plenty of patience, we know we will get there!! 💙🎉

Highly recommend Sue Kewley's Practice. We are currently on the Happy Shepherd owner training programme.
Having met and worked with multiple dog trainers and behaviourists over the years, Sue provided a different, enlightening experience. She has offered me an alternative way of thinking, a much kinder and understanding one. By better understanding my dog, I have been able to solve multiple problems with my GSD with the help of a multitude of broken down, simple, yet effective, exercises that Sue provided. The exercises were also videod to help us remember them and practice at home, along with a plethora of virtual advice and information.
Sue is very knowledgable, understanding, supportive and personable. I am actually dreading the day our training programme ends as Sue has been a life saver!

Sue Kewley is not just a dog behaviourist and trainer; she brings another level of insight and observations to her training sessions. Thanks to Sue I now have the tools to correct some of my German Shepherd, Lucy’s more challenging behaviour and a better understanding of how to interact with her. I have had other trainers and attended other classes, but Sue’s method has been the most effect

We have had trainers before, but we really needed someone to help us with our GSD, Elva, who is dog-reactive. As we are based in Warwickshire, we had one-to-one training lessons with Sue online, with ongoing support between sessions by recording our training on video and Sue offering feedback. The tools and skills Sue has taught us have been invaluable, we have been able to understand Elva more, and our bond has deepened further. Sue was always responsive to our needs, and the dialogue was always supportive, honest, and forgiving! The online tools have proved very useful and through applying useful practical insights and implementing good practices Sue has helped develop our confidence in handling Elva. Moreover, we are seeing improvements with her reactivity, managing to pass dogs on the other side of the road (something that was impossible before!). The only way is up!

Sue has helped us many times in numerous ways over two years. From first receiving our puppy and teaching us the basics to helping shape our dogs behaviour and teaching us to be the best dog owners we can be! She is always professional and imparts her extensive knowledge in the most relaxed and enjoyable way. I have no doubt she will be helping us throughout our our life with our dog. I cant praise her highly enough.

So glad we found Sue, such a calm and knowledgeable person. We have a highly excitable 2 year old terrier and were really struggling with walks and with visitors coming to the house. Sue is teaching us all strategies to manage these situations and we are seeing the results of her expert training methods. It's not a quick fix and you have to put in the effort but so rewarding to see the improvement.

I have been working with Sue over a period of time with my Cocker Spainel.
He was a rescue and had a few issues.
But with her help knowledge and patience it gave me both the confidence and the tools to go forward with his training. I can’t thank you enough Sue.
I would recommended Sue to anyone in need of any behavioural or just basic training ,she’s just fantastic and so committed to getting the results by fair and kind methods of training.
Once again thank you Sue.

A Changed Dog
Our 1 year old Yorkshire Terrier started exhibiting some behavioural issues three months after having major heart surgery when he was just six months of age. He seemed to deal with all the visits to the vets, the procedure and recovery extremely well. Then, he became very jittery, couldn`t settle, was constantly on the go. He would bark at everything on his walks, people, traffic cones etc and especially other dogs. Once he started barking he seemed incapable of switching it off. He also starting guarding toys, hated his crate and disliked walking beside my wheelchair.
We tried everything to alter these behaviours. In desperation we contacted Sue Kewley who visited and carried out a thorough assessment of Jago and then devised a programme of Behaviour Therapy. She quickly identified the cause and trigger points for his behaviour. We completed six sessions during which we learned a completely different approach in response to Jago`s behaviour. Sue taught us a variety of strategies and this helped reduce our frustration around the behaviour. By completing the games/exercises throughout each day Jago`s behaviour has gradually improved. He is now much more relaxed, the barking has almost ceased ( apart from when he sees the poor Greyhound in our road, so more work to be done on that one). Our walks are now a pleasure not a battle. The guarding is now extremely rare. He is very happy to go in his crate when it is necessary.
In the space of four months he is a completely different dog. He`s happy, relaxed and enjoying life just the way he should. The new approach is now like second nature to us and our training continues.
Contacting Sue was the best thing we could have done. She`s brilliant, very down to earth and extremely approachable. We would highly recommend her.
