Learned so much with Jane's Life Skills for puppies course! Her guidance was invaluable both pre and during the lessons. Hers and Penny's professional evidence based approach, and true love for animals (and their adoptive parents!) were probably the key in what's now a very comfortable and enjoyable life with our Labrador Stella. Cannot recommend highly enough!

So grateful for Jane's help, support and experience. We have one more session but have already made so much progress. She has given us tools to calmly and clearly help our dog with her various behavioural problems and I feel so much more in control. For our sakes and our dog's, I just wish we'd seen Jane as soon as the issues started, rather than putting it off for 6 years! Highly recommend.

Laika (our whippet puppy) and I did Jane’s Life Skills course online and also the follow up course in person. Both courses were fantastic. We learnt so much and having Jane’s feedback as we learnt new skills was invaluable. Laika absolutely loved the in person classes and couldn’t wait to get in to see Jane and Penny each week. Everything we learnt has helped us through the puppy and teen stages, and will continue to be useful. We asked Jane loads of questions and it really built our confidence when we weren’t sure if we were doing the right thing. I couldn’t recommend Jane’s courses more!

Jane has helped us and our senior rescue Duck so much. We wanted to understand more about how to help him enjoy his retirement in comfort, while also reducing some behaviours like pulling on the lead and reactivity.
After only two sessions we have already seen a great improvement- on our own ability to work with him, and using the training tips Duck is more in tune with what we are asking him to do.
We can't recommend enough! Jane listened to all our concerns and even helped us in advocating for Duck with our vets. We also were given recommendations about how to learn more about identifying pain signals from dogs and I found this really helpful!

We used Jane to help us train our Golden Doodle from around the age of 6-12 months. We had done basic puppy classes elsewhere from 3-6 month (which were not great) and needed some more guidance on things like recall, stay, 'on your mat', leave it, leash training & some advice on how to handle the dog once our baby was born. Myself, my husband and our doggo benefited so much from these lessons. Jane brings an unjudgemental approach to the training, really listens to what you're trying to get out of it, and also sends great follow up material. She's firm and direct but also kind and easy to work with. Our pup loved her too (and we were always in awe of how well behaved she immediately was around Jane!) Jane was there for follow up questions if i text her after too. We would absolutely continue to use Jane for future training sessions.

Wonderful puppy class. It was a warm, friendly environment and Jane made the classes interesting and entertaining and most importantly, the method she teaches works! Enzo is very well behaved (most of the time) and I credit Jane with that. She was also always on hand outside of class to offer detailed advice and support too. I can't recommend Dog on the Hill highly enough.

I have a two year old miniature poodle 'Lola'. When Lola was a puppy, Jane helped with me general puppy behaviour (sadly it was lockdown so I wasn't able to benefit from one of her in-person puppy courses as I had heard from other friends that they are fabulous), but it was when Lola was approx 1.5 years old that Jane really surpassed all my expectations and went above and beyond to try and find the reason for Lola's difficult behaviour. From about 9 months, she started to display signs of aggression which over the next few months got worse and she would growl/snap if anyone tried to pick her up or stroke her tummy or disturb her while sleeping - or in fact do anything that she didn't initiate. Jane was so thorough in exploring all possibilities and taught me both to listen and watch her body language (which immediately helped), but also to explore potential skin/stomach issues as a reason for her resistance and fear of being handled. Jane has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the force-free dog behaviour world and was able to recommend specific veterinary behaviourists and vets that understood her issues so they could help. This proved to be invaluable advice as we then found out that Lola suffered from pancreatitis and her behaviour has totally changed since we altered her food and the way she eats it. She is no longer uncomfortable and therefore is a different dog. Her behaviour is 99% better and I am so grateful to Jane for her care and consideration in advising me. I can't recommend Dog on the Hill and Jane Robinson highly enough. If you have a dog with an issue or a puppy that need training - don't go anywhere else.

We booked 4 one to one sessions with Jane to train our 7/8-month old rescue, Daisy. We really valued Jane's down to earth, realistic approach and those lessons have given us a great foundation with Daisy and taught us so much about positive reinforcement. We covered things like loose lead walking, recall, and mental stimulation/games for Daisy. Jane also helped us manage our own expectations which we're really grateful for! In hindsight we would have preferred to have another lesson with Daisy present rather than the first prep lesson we had before she arrived. We also felt we could have covered a bit more content in each lesson given the pricing, but overall we saw this as a long term investment in our dog's happiness and wellbeing (and ours too!). Thanks for everything Jane, no doubt we will be in touch again. Jennifer, Daniel, and Daisy

We attended the six week Dog Life Skills course with our dachshund puppy. The course was really well organised with an informative first session for owners to fully prepare us for what the course involved. The space was ideal and Jane ensured the room was divided up appropriately for all the dogs to be comfortable. The group was small so we were able to get loads out of the sessions and each dog got to work with Jane or her assistant several times during each session. We learned a range of skills and behaviours during the course, but most importantly learned the methods to ensure we could take our learning and use it in a whole range of situations. All the theory was backed up by research from Lincoln University and Jane ensured there was time in each session for us to ask her specific questions. She was incredibly supportive if we had any issues and a real fountain of knowledge about a whole range of dog-related topics. I would highly recommend Jane and Dog on the Hill and would definitely attend another course.

Group puppy training with Jane has been an excellent start to training our Newfie Bruno. We liked Janes’s positive reinforcement approach and found Bruno responded to it really well. Learning from questions that come from the group, and the socialisation has been great. We are signed up for the follow-on course to reinforce all the foundational lessons.

I can warmly recommend Dog on the Hill! Jane offered loving support tailored to my dog's individual needs, and training tools that fit within my lifestyle. The classes are intimate, and a good amount of time is dedicated to understanding the psychology driving your dog's behaviours, which is exactly what I was looking for as a strong foundation for my learning journey with my pup.

We've done a couple of sessions with Dean and they really helped us with solving some issues we've been having with our puppy

Jane and Dog On The Hill are truly fantastic and i highly recommend. I learned more about dog behaviour in 90 mins from Jane than ive learned over a life time of having dogs. Eye opening. Transformed our puppies toilet training, recall and biting and also had some amazing tips for our older dog too. Fantastic !!! 5 Star !!!

Jane is a brilliant trainer. The sessions are well run, fun, and my dog (Max) improved in leaps and bounds.

We recently got a whippet puppy and chose Jane as our trainer which was a great decision. She came over to the house before the puppy arrived to go through some of the basics and it really helped prepare us for her our puppy's arrival and what to expect. We then had four 1-on-1 sessions and our puppy absolutely loved Jane and really responded to her training. Jane clearly loves dogs and her training technique is all about raising a confident, happy puppy which we can see is really paying off. She also focuses on specific dogs and their needs and noticed immediately the areas that were most important to our puppy (namely recall). As first time puppy owners it was invaluable to have Jane's support both at our sessions but also at the end of an email - she was always happy to help and very responsive. We will venture on by ourselves a little and will ask Jane to come back in a couple of months for some follow up sessions. Would highly recommend

Cannot recommend Jane and Penny highly enough! Positive reinforcement should be the template for all dog training. The way they work with owners and pets in small, intimate groups leaves no room for failure. We all emerged with happy, well behaved pets and broad smiles on our faces. Rewarding the good rather than punishing the bad - it’s not rocket science but it’s transformative! Thank you, ladies, so much🐶💛

Getting in touch with Jane was the best decision we made after getting our golden retriever puppy, Rhubarb. I was a first time dog owner, and we started with a 1-2-1 session where she very patiently answered my very long list of questions and gave us some really good advice on how to manage things in the early weeks. We then did the Life Skills course and the follow on course, which were both well-structured and very clearly taught. The best thing about Jane and Penny's teaching was that we learned how to observe our dog's behaviour and adapt our own behaviour accordingly. Rhubarb was a little anxious when we got her, but we now have a happy, confident and (mostly) calm dog, which we can fully credit to them!

We have now had 2 sessions with Jane and they have been brilliant. We've booked some more for the next few weeks. Our puppy was so pleased to see her when she arrived for her second visit. The sessions have been well structured to focus on a few skills of us interacting with puppy, but also give the puppy rest inbetween. Jane has given us good advice. This is our first dog, and it would be easy to be overwhelmed by all the information out there. It is really reassuring to be with someone who understands dogs, and is able to focus on some key puppy skills which are making our dealings with our puppy more enjoyable. Our puppy seems to enjoy the sessions, they are clearly stimulating for him, and he's developed from them (of course, we think he is a very clever dog!)

We joined the puppy life skills course and it's been invaluable in building our confidence handling our cockerpoo puppy, Bo. The sessions worked really well on zoom. Jane's expertise and encouragement along the way and advice between class has really helped. We had a one 2 one session before our puppy arrived which was really useful in getting things prepared and what to expect. We will definitely continue to work with Jane, she great!

We learnt so much from our puppy classes with Jane @ Dog on the Hill! She is an amazing trainer. She really understands dogs and her 'Life Skills' training helped us to really understand our puppy. She teaches skills that other trainers don't and we now have a puppy who listens to us and is calm and responsive. Can't recommend Jane enough.

We did 6 weekly online classes with Jane over zoom during lockdown, with our chow chow puppy Iggy, starting when he was 10 weeks old. We live in a flat so that added another difficult dimension. We were nervous about having to the lessons over zoom - but Jane has made the course just as practical. I also felt like not having the distraction of other dogs in a space was actually quite helpful.
Each week we’d work through training exercises and get direct feedback on our techniques. And they worked a treat! We were able to apply each lesson to our training every day and each week we saw a marked improvement in Iggy’s recall and behaviour. Jane also helped us to feel more confident as puppy parents and more accepting of its tricky bits. Jane was patient, crystal clear and willing to talk us through specific issues we had, even on the phone between training sessions when we had a problems. (And she’s pretty funny too 😀)
And now after the six week course we can certainly see the benefits - Iggy, whilst still a cheeky puppy here and there, walks beside us on the lead, comes when we call him and as adjusted to our home really well. And we’re really grateful to Jane for helping us get here!
We’d certainly recommend Jane to everyone who’s looking for a great dog trainer. Thanks so much Jane!

Jane came highly recommended and did not disappoint! I've had both zoom and one-to-one sessions which have been invaluable. She has a brilliant, in-depth knowledge of dog behaviour which has helped me understand a little more of how the canine mind works.. incredibly useful for my slightly challenging teenage puppy...her training tips just make absolute sense.. and really work!

I have completed Jane’s 7 week ‘Puppy life skills’ course and it was excellent. It gave our puppy, my family and me a great foundation to build on, highly recommended. Just bear in mind that you have to put in time and effort yourself in the training process: the more you put in the more you get out...

Jane is clearly an expert in dog behaviour and makes training fun for both puppies and humans. The puppy life skills class was well structured and provided a great basis for moving forward with our puppy - we now bear in mind the basics of the training and apply to all aspects of our puppy's life - and it works!

Jane is really helpful and made me feel more confident about how to help Madge have a positive relationship with me. She was very encouraging and supportive and available to answer any questions that I might have to do with all aspect of dog care and training

Jane was a real pleasure to work with - experienced, knowledgeable, professional. My dog would agree, she loved her! Jane's instructions and exercises were super clear, and I have noticed a huge improvement in my dog's recall, loose lead walking and more. I highly recommend.
