Reviews of Highfield Country Park
A. F.
Great for walking the dog and getting muddy! Puppies might jump up at you so don't wear your best trainers and jeans!
B. B.
It's fantastic to have some space in Levenshulme, where my dog can run free! There are so many paths to explore and get lost on, but you always find your self back at the picnic tables!
The off piste paths get very muddy in winter, but the main paths are still pretty usable all year round
A. P.
Really lovely place to go with the dog. Plenty of paths. It's very flat. A couple of picnic areas. Several entrances/exits around the park. Very enjoyable walk round and our dog loved it. We bumped into a lot of really friendly locals with their dogs too. Nice people.
C. Q.
I took my dog today for the first time and we both loved it, we were there for around 2 hours and could easily have spent longer. It is pretty much all flat and there are lots of main paths to follow but we took the smaller paths through the wooded areas and through the middle of the fields instead so my dog could be off her lead exploring more. There were enough people around to not feel isolated but not too many that it felt crowded. I've never been before today and I already can't wait to go back and find new routes!
A. F.
Nice walks through this haven of nature tucked in amongst the housing estates. Small ponds and Brooks along the way. Easy access along the main path through to the trans pennine trail. Great place for a gentle stroll and to unwind.
V. I. M.
Highfield Country Park worth visit & must visit to keep a park.
In 2017, plans for redeveloping an area of Highfield Country Park were passed by Manchester Council. Friends of Highfield Country Park objected to this decision but were overruled. The park is suitable for all the family to go there for a good time picnics, walk, cycling and to explore the park. Probably you need a few visits to cover the whole park.
S. S.
Good place to walk the dog. Flat walking along asphalt paths but can also go off-road through woods etc. when not too muddy.
C. S.
Great place for a walk, big park! Quite quiet, at least when I went today!
m. T.
A great natural park . Follow me for more epic adventure on Facebook and YouTube

Highfield is, quite simply, the best park in Manchester, and the reason for that is quite simple: the park is wild. Unlike most of the other parks in the area, this vast expanse of forest and shrubbery is truly untamed, unspoiled, and unknowable. There are the few well trodden paths through the heart of the park, but the real beauty of any walk in Highfield is that, even after months of exploring, there will still be a new path that springs up every now and again, and you may find that a trail you walked just a shy week ago has already dissapeared, overgrown by frenzied thorns and thistles. The unpredictability, and the constant opportunity for exploration and discovery is fantastic. I used to say that I knew Highfield like the back of my hand but, to be honest, I don't think anybody does, and that is what makes it truly unique.
C. B.
Nice Park in middle of levy, you'd never know it was there really
N. C.
Massive beautiful park lots of diff routes great for ramblers too entrance from the top of highfield today which was a good shortcut to the bee sanctuary side which I then took to aldi this is such wonderful park leads to the cycle paths and there are many diff turnings to do your easily and effortlessly plus no car fumes I absolutely love it right on my doorstep wish I had started a lot sooner but I'm really enjoying being outdoors you don't have to travel far to reach an entrance by foot it is huge took me from m19 to sk area in a matter minutes I just love this park 😀recommend it 👍such a lovely day fir a walk in this beautiful park today
L. S.
Great place I've only just come across on my doorstep having lived locally all my life. Could probably do with more signage as had no idea which direction I was going in and had to retrace footsteps. Fine if you have plenty of time to wander but could otherwise get a bit lost! Probably doesn't help with some footpaths currently being closed off due to ongoing work.
J. W.
I didn't see enough of this, it's a little gem tucked away in the east of Manchester on the Fallowfield loop. If you're gonna ride to it, I recommend something suitable for offroad, but it's lovely on a sunny day to just walk around.
D.
Amazing place, the dog loves it. Great for running, bike rides, dog walking and chilling. Not appropriate for BBQs, really, however lovely open space.. Allotments on tonbbridge lane too
K. R.
Beautiful park, just a shame about the litter being left by the public
C. B.
This place isn't very suitable for families. It looks wild and unsafe.
R. M.
Amazing little country park that is a little break from the busy area.
A. N.
Gorgeous place to explore during lockdown
J. J.
A beautiful space, I grew up nearby and always came here to play with my friends as a kid, we used to go chop all the knotweed with sticks and call ourselves samurais. It's very much a mini get away from the car filled streets and it's so close by, a real mini forest.
Me and my beautiful wife frequent Highfield to get away from the noise and the hustle and bustle.
Funnily enough my beautiful wife gave birth to our third beautiful daughter at the picnic area, we were very worried as it was a fast labor and we thought we couldn't get to the road in time to get an ambulance. Luckily enough people emerged from the surrounding forest and helped deliver our third beautiful daughter calmly, efficiently and with the up most sanitation that only a team of the most experienced midwife's could muster.
Would go again and will!
A. P.
Great for a walk in the woods and getting some fresh air close to the city. Has lots of trails to explore which lead into the trees, good for little children.
Quite muddy at this time of year, wellies or boots recommended.
T. C.
Lovely park with various routes for walking. The recent bee sanctuary and other nature paths have made it great for our little one to explore. Can be super muddy after raining.
S. C.
Lovely place for a Sunday afternoon walk. Well maintained and a large bee sanctuary. Also found a new space which has been created in memory of covid victims, especially those who died alone or without those they love. Done very sensitively and was a beautiful space to sit in and remember.
M. P.
There are a few long paths that kind of Kris Kross over the whole park. There are a lot of open spaces and fields. Mostly wild meadows and loads of grasslands, you almost feel like you are miles away in the countryside as it is surprisingly large. You do come across some wooded areas and I come across a pond somewhere in the middle of some trees with some decking boards on the side. Í didn't find many benches but there is a small seated area with a children's play area. I didn't find any amenities but it is a country park after all I enjoyed it, I bet it's much better in the summer.
R. C.
There a lot of trees planted in the last 10 or 15 years I mean a very lot in an other 10 or 15 years it will be like Sherwood Forest. You could get lost very easy. With all the rain that we have recently it was muddy in places. But it just shows what can be done with an old brick works that then became a tip. A shot of light on a rainy day.
T. F.
Beautifully hidden away down the fallow loop (not really a loop tho is it), with some nice picnic areas and paths to stumble down. Worth a short walk around and change of scenery from the urban landscape of Manchester.
A.
Lovely green space that really adds to the beauty of South East Manchester. You can spend hours here and still not explore everything, would highly recommend people give this wonderful park a go.
A. H.
This is a large country park that can be accessed from Highfield Road and many of the roads off broom Lane. It stretches all the way to near McVities biscuit factory. It has tree's and lots of wild plant also a picnic area which hosts different activities now and then. Great place to ramble or walk the dog. Close by is the secret lake which is a beautiful pace to see.
a. h.
Peaceful place all natural
R. F.
Aside from all the dog poo it's okay. Lots of little paths means you can vary your walk a bit. Can be quite muddy when it's wet. Got a log pile for kids to play on and it's got a picnic area for families. Real shame that people think it's okay to let their dogs use it as a toilet.
M.
Great urban green space.
k. m.
What a great place to escape the Urban sprawl. I never knew it was there I discovered the area whilst walking along the cycle loop. Well worth a visit and a dog walk. I never knew how big it was loads to discover. Each time I visit I explore a new part and have never been disappointed. Good picnic areas dotted about within the park
R. G.
A nice quiet park tk walk the dog with lots of different routes around .
j. e.
Think the park is being developed by volunteers which is great. Walk not very long but areas to sit. There is a pond area being built too.
D. M.
pleasant area hidden from view of the residential estate that is nearby also lots of wild flowers and animals, not far from the secret lake.but not far from the busy a6 so access via public transportis very good.
M. H.
A great little golf course with plenty of trouble to keep you thinking. If you playing well/sensibly, you'll enjoy the course but if you're not playing well, the course can punish you despite being relatively short. Either way, you'll want to keep going back.
They have a deal to become a full 18 month member for £750 - it's well worth the price if you can get out regularly. It's probably due to the low rates that the course is relatively busy.
J.
One of two places we regularly take our dog for a walk.
Lovely to find this sized space in an urban area. Little bit dodgy in parts. Gets very, very muddy when it has rained so wellies are a must some days!
M. G.
A lovely place to spend time quietly reflecting within nature. It's a shame there's so much litter about, but we take a bag and litter picker each time we go and hopefully we'll make a difference.
V. M. (.
Really lovely, natural area to explore. It spans a huge area, and has a variety of areas such as open fields, picnic areas and a few play areas. There is a small farm nearby too, which sells farm products if you wish to get some fresh eggs. There's a lovely mix of open space and forest areas, and you can walk into the country park right off the Fallowfield loop. Worth a walk through on a pleasant enough day.
T. S.
natural meadows , wild flowers, woods , trails, stream, picnic areas, bridleways , dog walkers, horse riders, amblers, adjacent to fallow field loop ,and. Holds worth golf course.
A lovely place to take the family., and enjoy acres of walks .
G. E.
Love this little oasis in middle of the urban sprawl. Lots of little paths and places to explore. There is a picnic area with lots of benches. It is connected to the Fallowfield loop so great for a cycling stop off. The only negative is the completely random sacks of dog poo hung over a fence post on one of the the Heaton Chapel entrances left by irresponsible owners.
S. D. H.
Love this park. You wouldn't know you were in middle of a heaving metropolis as it's so peaceful and green. Easy to access by the F.Loop (Fallowfield Loop) especially so for wheelchair users. There are several paths through so you can have a different adventure each time. Perhaps a wander through the dark arches of trees and blackberry vines or taking in the air as you follow the brook through to the pond. There's a designated picnic area too.
Definitely one of my favourite places in Manchester.
A. A. M. (. M.
Very few people actually come here from what I've seen, only the occasion dog walkers and school children. I have grown up next to this park and I only found out that it exists in recent years after walking on the fallowfield loop. Amazing place to go though if you want somewhere scenic in the middle of the hustle and bustle, I was very happy with myself after finding this place, highly recommended!
T. W.
A beautiful area mainly left to grow naturally and attract lots of wildlife. Hidden away between Levenshulme and Heaton Chapel it is a small oasis away from the cars, noise and suburban streets. There are plenty of pathways to follow and a picnic area to sit and watch the birds going about their business.
L. C.
Always love the walks on there with my dog. Lovely scenery and calming place
D. M.
It's such a shame that the food is a bit bleurgh.
The pub is in a great location for watching planes take off and landing at Manchester airport BUT if you sit outside you get attacked by wasps, in the play area, there was about 8 wasps per table, we gave up and went inside in the end
I think this problem needs to be addressed
J. C.
Woodland wins out over Victorian industrialisation. Nature has truly taken back the land. A peaceful tranquil haven bounded by Levenshulme, Reddish and Heaton Chapel. Full of wildlife, wildflowers and mixed deciduous trees. Mostly woodland with some open space, ponds and a brook. Birds throughout the day; foxes and bats at night. The main pathways are suitable for wheelchairs, prams and cycles, although there are some slopes and not all entrances are as easy to get through as would be ideal. Wellies needed for the more minor paths. Nice picnic areas. You can see a lot more stars that you'd expect once you're properly in, with neighbouring allotments and a golf course helping reduce light pollution. Much more peaceful and cleaner air than you'd expect, given the roads and population density of the areas surrounding it. Definitely worth a detour.
F. O.
Decent place for a nature visit, good for walks like spoons and forks with the power of lifeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee........ lifeeeeee and so on.....
R. L.
Small but well maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers. Some nice picnic areas and trails that feel a world away from a city centre
G. D.
Lovely place to take the kids for a walk!
C. O.
We are so lucky to have this. Plenty of greenery and play space! The community keep it quite clean apart from the odd dog walker who leaves poo instead of picking it up.
T. P.
A great park. Lots of great things being done by volunteers to keep it cleaning maintained.
K. “. L.
Really nice Green Belt area that nestles between Levenshulme and Gorton, you think you'd traveled out to the Countryside, sadly around the entrance and exits some people have chosen to fly tip and it looks like the official bins don't get emptied too often. A fantastic place for a stroll or a picnic or just to sit and chill with a book on a nice summers day.
S. M.
Nice walk. Benches. Dog bins
J. B.
Lovely place, somebody is picking up the litter, doesn't feel like being in a big city
M. B.
Quality dog walking venue with variety of walks available through fields wooded area's and paths for those who dont want to get too drenched in mud full of quality dogs and owners.
K. H.
Absolutely great park for spending a nice afternoon with a picnic on the benches. Even in the rain you can make it work with the right friends
M. G.
Nice large wooded park. More woodland so not a park as such. Has a picnic area people can use in the summer and lots benches dotted around the place.
N. G.
Love it!!!
It's a beautiful walk with the kids and dog
p. s.
