Reviews of Blue Cross rehoming centre, Southampton

Archie was rescued 9 years ago...he's a fantastic dog and a full member of our family. We are so grateful for Blue Cross & Archie.
A. J.
Nice staff lovely pets. Helped us a lot even when the cat we wanted was under the wrong name they helped us find the right cat 🐈
J. C.
We recently lost our cleo so were taking her cat basket and unused food etc to the blue Cross as that is where she came from 17 years ago .
We know they are always glad of any donations and they do fabulous work with animals the staff we saw were lovely a d really understanding.
S. J.
Haven't been there for a while but when I last went all staff were friendly and helpful, =) animals cared for and a round a lovely place =)

A wonderful, supportive organisation that we adopted our rescue dog from. They continue to provide expert advice for any behavioural issues encountered and we can confirm he has now settled in smoothly and is a wonderful companion.
J. C.
Great friendly staff. I fostered a poorly cat and the girls were very supportive
A. N.
Wonderful organisation above all extraordinary staff, well done for work you do for abandoned or distressed pets . Bobby had a nice new year and was settled straight away, he is a very well mannered 🐈
A. C.

We already have one dog, but wanted to help another dog by adopting from blue cross, everything was dealt with in an excellent manner and I was fully kept up to date with my adoption progress with regular phone calls etc. Everyone was so friendly and helpful I couldn't have asked for more. Unfortunately our original dog was very jealous so it didn't work out. They have a duty of care to ensure they place animals into the best environment possible.

Lovely place. I gave them some food that my dog didn't like. They accept most things you want to give them to help with cats and dogs [not sure about other animals]
You are allowed to go around and look at the cats but not allowed to open the cages up and play with them. Friendly staff. Doing an amazing job.

This was the second rehoming site I had come across after helping a friend who is moving to the coast and would like to get a dog for company but also to help keep active ,they had loads of info about how to register for rehoming as well as a handful of profiles of the dogs currently up for rehoming so that even during the covid 19 pandemic they could make sure dogs weren't stuck in kennels and people had the option of booking appointments to view to make sure both animals and humans stay safe only downside was the website isn't as clearly layed out as it could be .
S. P.
Collected a lovely tabby chap who is now very much in charge...

Ended up getting 2 kittens from here, outstanding care taken with all of the animals. Staff were all extremely friendly and allow you to personally see the animals and enter their enclosures. Good service, insanely good price to pay for all animal options and is way cheaper than elsewhere. Would highly recommend to anyone that wants a pet.
C. W.
Such a wonderful place. They thoroughly checked us out before letting us walk away with little Luna. We had a few visits, including with the kids to make sure she would be happy. And they've helped us through every step of rehoming her. They are brilliant

I was impressed by this place. It is really well taken cared of. The peaceful environment they have created for the animals is admirable. You can go and see the cats, interact with them. They have classical music withib the corridor. The volunteers are also lovely and really care. I wish I could have adopted one, but definitelt will in the future.

We managed to give this little girl a home.. xx 💖

The staff here at Blue Cross are amazing. I am adopting a cat from them today. They are very thoughrough and am pleased to say they accepted me. The process was great from start to finish. They really deserve a high five for the job they do.

We just rehomed a dog from there this weekend.
We had marvellous service from two ladies in particular, Tasha and Tilly . They dealt with us over the 2 day period and fitted us in as we live over 2.5 hours away.
The centre is in pleasant surroundings with good access and walks for the dogs .
S. R.
Absolutely wonderful staff, informative, and caring, a joy to rehome from them. 2 lovely chinchillas.
K. A.

Wonderful friendly staff, committed to the animals in their care. My mother has been lucky enough to be able to offer Elecktra her forever home. We all feel very fortunate.

We got our dog 12weeks ago and she is a delight! Staff were very helpful, and kind making sure that we and the dog were happy with each other. Also had follow up phone calls to make sure things were still OK. Would highly recommend.

It's just amazing, the guys there do a fantastic job!
C. H.
So clean and staff are so helpful.
Z. H.
The animals here are so well looked after. I went to look at cats for rehoming but had to say hello to the dogs there too. The staff do such a wonderful job and we rehomed a cat who has settled in beautifully!
N. K.
Amazing charity who have helped me adopt my own cat. All the staff have been amazing throughout the process. They do amazing work and I'm so delighted to be adopting a cat from them.
J. D.
Was looking to adopt a rescue job. They let us walk the dog we were interested in, but after a further visit decided he was too much dog for us at this time. He has now found his forever home with folks who can give him what he needs. We have now adopted a lovely dog from Battersea Dog and Cat Home centre at Old Windsor.

I totally recommend The Blue Cross Rehoming Centre for all of your animal needs. The staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. They really do look after the animals in their care, not just put them in cages and leave them. They groom them, play with them and spend quality time with them as if the animals were their own pets. All animals are thoroughly checked over, neutered, flea'd, wormed and microchipped before being rehomed, and they have all vet records and medications each animal requires in the future. I will definitely come back when I want a new pet!

Nothing can brighten the end of a long day at work like coming home to a litter of flamboyant kittens every day. My partner and I moved away from our home town, and everyone we knew, last year and fought the loneliness by fostering kittens for the blue cross. Fostering is a wonderful thing as it enables those who either can't afford or can't commit to a long term pet to continue showing their affection to animals, whilst helping out in a big way. Alas every up has its downs, and today is the day we return our four kittens, and their dedicated mother. As I wake up for work, I sigh in frustration at the four balls of fur dotted across my sleeping space (for the record always my side of the bed). Then I immediately feel bad for getting frustrated on this sad day. I fail to climb out of bed without disturbing them, and make my self breakfast to newly woken overactive kittens. They continue their fighting and pouncing as I reminisce on when we first got them: one week old and not even able to walk. Now they jump gallop and preform some quite astounding athletics on an hourly basis, ending with the fifteen minutes of adorable sleep. I am about to leave for work and while I'm gone my partner will take the agile felines back to the blue cross for their reserved families to take home for Christmas. I attempt to say goodbye to the kittens, who avoid every human contact whilst there is a possibility of playing with their siblings (when did they become so fast). I also have a slightly more affectionate goodbye with their mother, who has not yet been reserved and will be spending this Christmas alone. I could swear that she seems to know she's leaving. Before I leave I see a regular cute occurrence as one kitten tries to climb a leaning umbrella just for it to fall back on top of her and another kitten runs, puffing himself out, in order to defend his sister. I shut the door with a smirk on my face knowing now I will never see them again.

We found an injured cat and called them for advice. They couldn't have been more helpful. They checked that they had room and asked us to bring it straight down. Just a quick form about where it had been found and then it was taken for assessment. Really cared that it had the best being done for it.
M.
Have rehomed two dogs fron here, Jasmine and Otto both Staffordshire Cross female and male. We had good support before, during and after rehoming. Both dogs well behaved, both spade, all injections, good health and very few issues that could be easily ironed out, with more support to help with any behaviours that arose after being rehomed. Have to say one of the better rehoming places I have come across.
J. B.
Rehomed a beautiful mastiff puppy called Dancer, now renamed Kizzy.
All the staff we had contact with couldn't have been more helpful.
Would highly recommend them for their kindness, support and caring attitude .
Our thanks to all of you.xx

We were so lucky to be given an opportunity to rehome our two year old cocker spaniel.
The staff at the centre are all amazing and really do love/care for the animals.
We paid £180 for our girl, which is nothing compared to the love and joy she has bought into our lives.
The Blue cross are a charity and animals do cost money!!
We highley recommend the Blue cross in Hedge End.
M. G.
Lovely quiet place 4 the animals staff are so caring I'm looking 4 a volunteer job there next year you all do a great job well done x
S. T.
In my recent experience of adopting a dog through Blue Cross I can say they are very thorough, and everyone I spoke with or met was very helpful and polite.
It is true that they don't just let anyone walk in and just "pick a dog" they like the look of and let them take it home with them, the same is true of many rescue centres these days. Because if you have thought that little about owning a pet, the chances are it will end up back in one of these places pretty soon.
If you can't afford or think the £170 (£200 for a puppy) fee is too expensive, then you shouldn't be looking at owning a dog either. Having a dog neutered or spayed can cost just as much, the average cost of owing a dog (vet bills, insurance, food etc) is around £100-£200 a month (depending on the size) costing you £16,000 to £31,000 over its lifetime.
I try not to argue on the internet, but the fact there is no sound of dogs barking or cats meowing is not "strange" or "disappointing". They are not barking or meowing because they are happy and well cared for. I don't know about cats, but I know that dogs bark for a reason, and it usually is not because they are comfortable and relaxed.

Re-homed two lovely kittens from here. Staff were very friendly, helpful and most importantly, very concerned with the well being of the animals. Lots of advice given and support provided before, during and after adoption.

M. R.
I recently took in a potential stray dog from a guy.. A family member recommended this place. So far they have helped me out with all vaccinations, micro chipping and neutering. They also had many items for sale for most pet needs
S. T.
Great place to find a loving pet to rehome. We got Alfie a dog fits into our life style. Styled with us within 2 days
S. H.
They do such a wonderful job looking after all of the animals until new homes are found for them. I went there myself to take some towels and bits and pieces
J. R.
Helpfull friendly staff. Would give 10 stars if available because anyone who takes care of animals that need extra care deserves 10 stars
