V. R.Absolutely wonderful 2 hour refresher lesson with Mike. I went in feeling super nervous about my driving ability after almost 5 years out of driving, but by the end of the short lesson I felt so much more confident and comfortable on the road and motorway! After failing a few tests when I was 17 I had lost all confidence in driving, however after a few lessons I saw a massive improvement and could not have asked for a better instructor. I was able to pass my test the first time with this driving school after a four year gap in driving. I hadn't driven a car almost since the day I got my licence four years ago in Spain, so I clearly lacked the confidence and skills to be behind the wheel. After living in Cardiff for a couple of years, I was eventually required to drive for work which was really daunting! For this reason, I decided to take refresher lessons. I chose DLA after reading all the impressive reviews here. Best decision ever!
Dean is friendly, professional and incredibly patient and attentive to detail. I always felt encouraged too, which I believe is especially important for those who easily get nervous like me.
I think his teaching method is very effective and he explains things in a way that they stick in your mind. Lessons are structured according to your needs and he often uses an iPad to help you better understand your mistakes.
I felt that I was constantly learning and Dean is a lovely person who really cares about you, gets happy with your progress and will help you as much as he can to ensure you are happy, too. Highly recommended!
L.I chose DLA because of the shining reviews they had online and they did not disappoint! I had lessons years ago with a different company that had knocked my confidence and generally made driving not enjoyable for me.
Not only did DLA have to teach me from fresh, but they also had to unpick all of the bad habits that I had learned previously. Their structured lessons were taught to a high standard with brilliant patience and memorable techniques. I passed my test first time with only two minors and now feel confident to drive safely anywhere. The lessons were fun and made me enjoy driving again. I’m so happy with the result, but very sad that this is probably the only time I will get to drive a Mercedes.

A. W.Best place to learn how to drive without a doubt. I needed an instructor who was flexible due to work and DLA were able to provide that. After putting off learning to drive for years and using numerous driving schools it took me 3 months of lessons to pass my test first time and completed without a single minor. It was really easy to get my first lesson booked online and following this has a prompt response and was booked in soon after this.
My instructor was great and made me feel at ease immediately. I found the interactive learning through I-Pad really good and it made things more visual than books and the highway code.
I was able to do a few lessons a week so felt I progressed fairly quickly and after finally getting around to my theory test I then booked and passed my practical test and am now enjoying life on the open road.😀

K. P.I've been driving quite confidently in Canada for the last 12 years (in an automatic, on the opposite side of the road!) So learning to drive in the UK in a manual transmission vehicle was a big challenge that I was excited/anxious to overcome. DLA was great value for money, really convenient letting me book lessons around my 9-5 job. My instructor was patient and calm and I felt like I learned at exactly the right pace for me. My instructor was really consultative - asking me what I wanted to work on each lesson, but also taking the lead when he knew there were areas I should be working on. And even when nerves got the best of me, I came back stronger learning how to tackle my weaknesses, re-built my confidence and passed my practical driving test first time! (after 28 hours of lessons and almost no private practice) I LOVE driving a manual car now and I'm excited about having my independence on the road again :)

I. H.I cannot recommend DLA and Dean the instructor enough for anyone who wants to learn to drive in the Cardiff area. I had recently moved to Cardiff from a small town in Mid Wales and was very nervous about learning to drive in a much busier area with more complicated traffic systems.
However Dean with his incredibly friendly and professional approach to lessons soon extinguished any fears and worries I had learning to drive. Lessons were structured very well, any errors in driving were addressed very constructively by the instructor and the instructor confidently informs you when you are ready to tackle the practical driving test.
Thanks to DLA and Dean I have recently passed my driving test with only 2 minors. I will 100% confidently be recommending DLA to all of my friends who need driving lessons in Cardiff.
S. T.I had started to learn to drive in my home town and so I already had some driving experience but I had run out of time before moving to Cardiff to complete my tuition. After just over a year of not driving, I started to look for a suitable driving school. DLA was the first driving school I found online via raving online reviews and so I thought to contact the school to find out if they were available to teach. DLA was the quickest to respond to my emails and arranged an induction driving lesson.
When I met my instructor, it was clear he was a patient, sympathetic and supportive teacher.
At the beginning of my tuition, on the occasions when I drove in a potentially unsafe way, my instructor calmly took control, pulled into the side of the road and encouraged me to reflect on the potential consequences of my actions in such a way that I remembered not to do it again. This is something I needed given I wasn’t the most natural driver at the start. They’re also precious about their car… so they’d never let anything happen to it (or you!).
The quality of service throughout the tuition was extremely high. The first time I took my test, I failed with just 4 minors having gone from lacking confidence and occasionally being “whacky” (which is probably why I failed). The second time I took my test, I passed with just 1 minor. DLA will help you to perfect your driving skills and make you feel more confident about driving on the roads of a busy Cardiff which is very different from driving in my home town.
Not only is the quality of tuition high, but DLA is sensibly priced. My instructor was always punctual, always had my interest at heart, and genuinely wanted me pass my test quickly, but safely.
Along with the humour, understanding nature, and great conversation, I couldn’t recommend DLA more highly to new/inexperienced drivers.

Dean taught me to drive to an excellent standard and taught me to notice my mistakes to improve on my driving! He really helped with my confidence behind the wheel and I can't thank him enough for all he and DLA has done, getting me to pass with only 15 lessons. D. G.Definitely would recommend DLA - my instructor, Dean was very experienced and took me from my first time behind the wheel to picking up the pass certificate. Calm beyond belief, he is very good at explaining your mistakes and showing you how not to repeat them. Lessons are planned out in advance, ensuring you've covered all the bases and then focused on resolving any problem areas before test day. Great value for money and what's more I really enjoyed it.

After 5 seconds of chatting with my instructor I felt instantly at ease and managed to pass my test 1st time with 3 minors after 12 lessons. Since then DLA has helped numerous members of my extended family to pass their tests first time. They have all reported back to me that the tuition they received was first class, and my niece even said to me that she was a bit dissapointed at passing her test as she really loved learning with her tutor. If I get asked if I know any good driving schools then I always tell them to go with DLA without any hesitation.

Due to some issues with the date for my second test, as a result of the DVSA initially cancelling it, I had to switch to a different instructor two weeks before, but there were no problems at all, and I passed with zero minors!

Dean at DLA helped me get used to driving again and develop from there by providing giving opportunity to get used to different driving situations safely and fivigi clear guidance on how to improve as well as what was done well.

From Day 1, Dean was friendly and professional and any problems were clearly explained verbally or via an iPad. Both these methods were extremely helpful depending on the error.
Thanks to Dean and his patience I passed first time, with only 5 minors. Will definitely be recommending DLA in the future.

Dean booked me in for my test when he thought I would be capable of passing rather than rush a test and fail, I passed first time with no minors at all - definitely down to Deans good instructing . When I asked Dean if I could work with DLA all those years ago, he didn't just say yes, he accompanied me on a lessons to make sure I fitted in with the ethos he had already built up. H. H.DLA has brought me from a complete beginner to someone who is able to drive safely and with a good understanding of the rules of the road! I had an excellent instructor who was very patient and calm, and was always keen to answer my questions about the workings of the car or explain any areas I wasn't sure on. DLA lessons are excellent value, I didn't find any cheaper lessons when searching in Cardiff, but there is no compromise in quality! I found it very useful to have the visual aids provided by the iPad which had satellite views of the local area, roads & roundabouts so my instructor could show me where I had been driving, point out areas for improvement in my driving (e.g. a particular roundabout or T-junction), and I could get a visual picture of exactly what I needed to improve! Brilliant for people who are new to driving and (like me) unfamiliar with the area! I would highly recommend DLA, great value for money with encouraging & very competent instructors!

My instructor Dean, did a amazing job at making me feel comfortable while learning to drive and very easily explained how to improve my overall driving ability. The use of the iPad during lessons was a great help as it allowed me to see what I need to do in my manoeuvres in a clear manner, taking driving lessons into the 21st century! When the time came to book my test, Dean ensured that I would have every chance to pass first time and that I was not rushed into a test with a chance of failure. Boy was he right, I past first time! DLA is the cream of the crop with regards to driving schools! Highly recommend DLA to everyone!

I passed my theory and driving test first time. Always really accommodating with time and pick up location which is a massive help. B.I’d actually passed my driving test some 7 years ago but had moved to Cardiff straight afterwards and not driven since; my confidence in control of a car was non-existent and I got so anxious even at the thought of driving. A friend recommended DLA to me and I am so pleased that I took her up on it because it is one of the best things I ever did. My instructor Dean took the time to discuss with me what I wanted to get from each session – not so much a refresher as a complete overhaul as it turned out! – and created a structured lesson plan for me. Dean was very patient with me and it was great to have a friendly instructor with a wicked sense of humour (necessary really considering the way I approached certain crossings) and a way of explaining things that makes it stick in your head when out on the road on your own. It was important to me to feel encouraged and positive during each lesson, even when I did something wrong, and Dean has this down to a fine art – you make the mistake, you analyse it (often using an iPad and a draw function which really helped to visualise the situation), you figure out how to put it right next time and you move on. A few months later – on one lesson a week – my driving has transformed and I feel much more confident behind the wheel. Thanks to DLA I’m about to drive two hours down not only a motorway but a motorway I’ve never been on, which I would’ve laughed at the mere suggestion of back in January. I cannot recommend this company highly enough.

I only had 12 hours of lessons whilst in my final year at University and I have learned so much in a small amount of time. I have freedom to decide when I think I'm ready for the next challenge and it makes me a better driver. I can't believe that when I started I was over-steering and struggling to multitask whilst driving. Now I can navigate major roads, change to gears 1, 2 and 3, turn the car round, turn left and right on T junctions and drive on roundabouts. Can't recommend DLA enough. Thank you, DLA!

I went through a difficult time with my previous instructor, which resulted in my driving confidence being dented. But that all changed as soon as I started having lessons with Dean. He was professional, punctual and knowledgeable. More than that his style of instructing was exactly what I needed to rediscover my confidence in my driving ability; encouragement, positivity and thorough guidance is what I received in abundance from him. Whenever I made a mistake he would calmly ask me what went wrong and how could I prevent it from happening again in future - a simple but very effective approach. This is not a commentary on their driving training but the administration of their website as a contact method needs some work.
