Russ is an amazing instructor. He is very down to earth and has always had patience with me and was okay with me learning at my own pace. Always asked if I was 100% with something or if I wanted to carry on if I was unsure before we moved on. Always made me feel at ease on the roads and helped build my confidence up as each lesson went by. Was always on time to lessons. Helped me be more independent but was always ready to help me if needed or asked. Would definitely recommend.

I can’t thank Russ enough for his patience with me over the past couple of years. Russ is a brilliant instructor and I would recommend him to anyone. He is a nice person and always is up for a chat while your driving round, he can always find a subject that you both up for talking about, whether it be games or current events . In addition, he explains the roads in clear understandable ways for first time drivers. With the maneuvers if there's a trick Russ knows them all no matter where or when. If anyone wants to pass their driving test Russ is the man for the job.

I definitely recommend Russ if you are looking for a good, patient driving instructor. Last week I took my driving test and passed first time, something I never initially thought would happen but he gave me all the skills and confidence I needed. I've heard of other instructors holding you back to ensure more money is coming in but that's not the case here, once I had the skills I booked my driving test but unfortunately that was quite a while in the future due to Covid delays. He encouraged me to continue practice on my own i.e. in my own car or with a friend (legally of course!) rather than to keep buying lessons. Russ is always on time (literally bang on the minute) and pushes you, especially in the areas you are most scared/uncomfortable with. I used to be a very nervous driver but I've been driving every day since I passed with complete confidence.

I am looking for an instructor for a family member and I am so glad I found Russ. I passed with Russ 10 years ago and would highly recommend anyone to him. Russ is an expert instructor. When Russ started teaching me I’d just come back to driving after a couple of years away from lessons and was basically starting again - I was very rusty, had a lot to learn and wasn’t very confident on the road, I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor to change that. Russ is a calm and direct teacher, telling you exactly the information you need to learn and improve. He quickly identified the areas that were causing me difficulty and helped me to tackle them. Russ is faultlessly punctual and was on time for every single lesson. He also encouraged me to take my practical test as soon as he thought I was ready. When I started, I expected that I’d probably need months of lessons and several attempts at the test, I actually had a few weeks of lessons and passed the test first time. Part of what makes Russ an excellent teacher is that he doesn’t just teach what you need to take the test, he teaches you to actually drive and gives you the skills necessary to deal with everyday situations on the road. This means that not only have I got my licence but I also feel confident to now go out on my own. Straight away Russ was very good at explaining things and showing me different ways to do maneuvers that would work across any style of car. Viewer, Wow! What a journey it has been with Russ - from “that’s very dangerous.. why did you brake...” to passing my test in first attempt! Russ has all the qualities that are required in an instructor. He gives prompt feedback, ensures that we achieve perfection in all the manoeuvres, and no! you simply cannot influence or pressurise him to take test early! An instructor must exhibit harshness and kindness appropriately when required and Russ knows it best. Russ Chaplin is an excellent driving instructor. I came as a complete novice, and passed my test first time. He implemented the basics for me, and when I had a 2 month driving break, (attempting and eventually passing my theory test,) I practiced with learner insurance, and though I improved a lot in this period, I went back to Russ for my final 5 hours, and in this period he gave me that extra knowledge to get me over the line and I am very happy and grateful for that. Though my dad helped me a lot in my driving too, I can honestly say that without Russ I would not have passed my test, especially because of my novice ability to begin with too. He is a great driving instructor, and I have enjoyed learning with him. I am going back for pass plus scheme too. Russ was always on time. We drove all over Nottingham and he taught me to drive above and beyond what was needed to pass my test. It was a 1st time pass for me with 2 minor faults.
