I've used recruitment agencies before both to find jobs and when I've been recruiting to posts. I have had experiences that had previously ranged from adequate to dire. On this occasion I applied for two roles via Prospectus - one of which I'd seen advertised and the other I was completely unaware of prior to contacting ProspectUs. Adam and Ryan who I dealt with are both excellent. They don't try to push you into applying for unsuitable jobs and don't over-promise. They are very responsive to any queries/calls. Prospectus is a really good agency. They have placed me in a few temp jobs and the pay rate is very good. They don't treat you like a number, they try to get to know you. It can be quiet and you don't hear from them for weeks and then you get two calls in one week for different jobs. I have mainly dealt with the temp team and some of them are really friendly people, especially Scott (who left) and Nazir. Even the guys in finance/payroll are really easy to talk to and act fast when something is wrong. The receptionists are friendly and helpful, always trying to connect your call to an available consultant. Some agencies will try to get you off the phone as quickly as possible and tell you they have no work for you but that you should keep in touch. Not this agency. I wish more agencies operated like Prospectus.

I found placements were always paid at a decent rate for the work, with proper attention to matters such as holiday pay too - this is a well run operation, that gives agency work a good name. You work with business-like, friendly, motivated and always professional recruitment consultants at Prospectus, and if you represent the agency well, and perform strongly with each booking, you should develop your reputation with their team and be rewarded with more placements, building quality of work and level of rate. This should be especially true if from the start, you bring to the agency's clients, relevant experience, knowledge and skills. I would recommend this well operated, sound and efficient agency.

I'd only used a recruitment agency once previously, which wasn't the most positive experience (I was a recent grad and they were determined to get me in the charity sector), so I hadn't really considered using a recruitment agency since. Also, I work in Higher Education, so I generally find roles by going direct to institutions or using specialist web-pages. However I was having a rough time at work, and in the absence of any opportunities I Googled my job title and stumbled across Prospectus. I am SO GLAD that I did!! I'm used to having to write very lengthy application forms, which have been known to take entire weekends, but all I needed to do was submit a CV. Tia then called me within the hour to chat through the job role and ensure that I wanted to be put forward, which I did. When I was invited to interview, Tia ran through the process with me and invited me for a practice interview. I was very hesitant about this, as I find 'fake' interviews really uncomfortable (I've practiced with friends in the past and it's made me more nervous). However my meeting with Tia was so helpful - she was incredibly friendly, encouraging and it was much more like a chat than an interview. I only realised about half way through that it was the practice interview! Once she had a feel for what I had to offer and how that could fit with the job, she told me what I needed to focus on in the interview and the skills that the employer was looking for, which weren't ones I had previously considered. I left feeling really confident and so pleased that I went. The best thing about working with Tia was that when I was offered the position she handled all salary and benefit negotiation, and secured exactly what I wanted before the offer came to me. This was quite a bit higher than the starting salary, and I'm not sure that I would have had the confidence to negotiate this had I been doing it myself - I knew that I wanted to earn more than my current wage and what my experience was worth, but I'm also still quite young and can lack confidence with these conversations. But Tia sorted it all which was amazing, and ensured that my decision was relatively easy to make! I received all of the information that I needed promptly and the transition to communicating directly with the employer was pretty seamless. I am so pleased that this experience was so positive. I've met with Tia since, and she has commented that she's never had such a great fit before, and I agree that it felt a bit like fate - everything just fell into place. Tia is absolutely lovely, so professional whilst also being incredibly friendly and supportive, and she made sure that everything was easy for me. Would definitely recommend considering Prospectus if you're in the market for a new job!

Over the last 20 years, I’ve had a good deal of exposure to recruiters, both as a candidate and client. To be brutally honest, I don’t usually like using employment agencies. Many of the recruitment consultants I encountered in the past were pretty superficial. I found them to be generally friendly when I first spoke to or met with them, but they tended to inflate the opportunities available. They also either consistently failed to call me back when I was waiting for feedback after being put forward for a role, or they hounded me when they wanted to get hold of me (often for a role that wasn’t even a close match). With one or two exceptions, the service I’ve received as a client hasn’t been much better. However, working with Steve Fraser at Prospectus has completely transformed my ‘agency experience’. Prospectus is clearly a very friendly company. When I applied for my first role Steve was away, so I spoke to Liesel Quinn, who subsequently interviewed me with Steve. Both were professional, warm, genuine and funny (yes, that helps when it comes to the serious business of job search). Even the receptionist was delightful when I went into the office to meet them. Steve and I were in contact for weeks, often on a daily basis, so I had time to get to know him. What stood out from the start was his company’s values: it definitely places people over profits. Rather than being focused on just filling posts, Steve continually reassured me that the roles had to be right for me. I could also see that he has the same approach with his clients. It’s all about helping them to find candidates who are the best possible fit, to further their organisational aims and objectives. Communication, efficiency and support are definitely three of Steve’s huge strengths. When he said he would get back to me, he did. When he promised to get more information, he delivered. When he asked me for my thoughts, he really listened. Steve didn’t just challenge my negative perceptions of recruitment consultants, he shattered them. And I’m very happy that he did.
