Shelley provided the harp music on our wedding day in May and it was just perfect! We had her play during the ceremony and drinks reception and everyone commented on how beautiful it sounded. Shelley is the most amazing teacher - She is so knowledgable, encouraging and inspirational. Her on-line course, Start Harp, has taken me from being a 'mature' complete novice and not knowing where to start to feeling like 'a proper harpist'. She is also a brilliant ensemble leader and wonderful harpist who can adapt to any style of music for any occasion. Oh yes, and she writes beautiful music for the harp for any occasion as well! I cannot praise Shelley highly enough for all she's given and enabled me to achieve over the last 2 years.

Shelley played the harp beautifully at our wedding. She was wonderful throughout the day. She learnt some specific pieces of music for our ceremony which were special to us. She played throughout the afternoon and then during the wedding meal we enjoyed her jukebox feature which allowed us and the guests to choose which music she would play from a professionally designed booklet that she provided. She even did an improvised version of the wheels on the bus and twinkle twinkle little star for our daughter! All the guests thought it was brilliant and all commented to us about how lovely the harp was. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Shelley.

Shelley is a true inspiration. As the Dynamics Harp Director she is able to create fun pieces for all abilities and has taken us on many journeys including the Cama International Harp Festival in France! As a performer, Shelley likes to test boundaries to show that the harp doesn't always have to be about classical music. Shelley proves that any type of genre can be played.

My wife and I hired Shelley to play the harp during our wedding ceremony, which was held at a venue just outside Cardiff, South Wales. Unlike another harpist we'd considered, Shelley wasn't at all phased by the prospect of a song request of an unusual song (which didn't have any officially-produced sheet music at the time), and in fact produced such a touching and beautiful rendition of it that when the bride-to-be first heard it, she cried (happy tears, obviously - haha)! On the wedding day itself, Shelley was friendly, performed absolutely beautifully and was even happy to accept requests from guests (including rock/indie songs). She's a fantastic wedding harpist and I'd happily recommend her to anyone.

Shelley is an amazing and inspirational teacher! Her Start Harp online course has enabled me to learn to play the harp at my own speed, and in my own time. As someone who works a 60 hour week finding a teacher available to fit in to my limited leisure time was an impossibility, so online learning was my only option. I am lucky enough to have been with Start Harp right from the beginning, and keep going back for more. All three levels can be completed with as few as 22 strings (3 octaves) which makes learning this instrument so accessable. I loved every minute of the courses - even the homework, and look forward to the live chats that accompany the lessons. I also love the immersions, which are one off sessions that you can either attend live, or use in exactly the same way as the weekly lessons. I would recommend Shelley's Start Harp course to anyone wanting lessons, and I would also recommend her as a harpist to play for an event, she really is amazing!

Start Harp is an amazing on line course! In my opinion, it far surpasses one on one teaching. Each week's lesson includes music theory, a tune with everyday exercises that make learning the tune easier, improvisation, learning a tune by ear, a practice video and so much more! Shelly's excellent instruction and support are invaluable and her personal attention to each student's needs and progression are outstanding! You are in a course with people from all over the world who are so supportive as well. We share our rough patches and cheer each other on. There are live chats biweekly where we can all interact with each other and ask any questions that Shelly speaks to and demonstrates in detail. I cannot recommend Start Harp with more enthusiasm. If you have ever wanted to learn to play the harp, this is the place to be.

Shelley’s online Start Harp courses (Levels 1, 2, and 3) offer an *amazing* amount of content and a solid foundation in technique and tunes. It. Is. Worth. The. Money. With 12 months to access the online classroom, you can come back to the videos again and again, and you can download the sheet music and exercises to practise and enjoy forever. One of Shelley’s approaches is to give Everyday Exercises for the tune being learned. These are customized exercises based on snippets from the main tune – a proven way to learn the tune faster! They totally work. Shelley gives personalized feedback on Start Harp homework. It’s optional to submit your video homework but it’s so worth it. The video is private to the class, and she films herself as she watches your video, so you get her honest response with customized tips just for you. Shelley’s live Q&A chats are a great way to connect to the class, ask your questions, and get detailed, above-and-beyond answers from Shelley. If you can’t make the chat live, the replay is available. Shelley is also available in the closed Start Harp Facebook group, which is such a supportive group as you learn, practise, and explore all things harp. And you can ask questions in the online classroom, including an option to submit a video of something you’re finding tricky so Shelley can see what’s what and respond specifically. The separate Start Harp Immersion workshops are a fantastic experience, either live (when Shelley records them as a 2hr+ webinar chat) or in the replay videos (posted in the online classroom). She covers essentially a week’s worth of Start Harp curriculum (like an immersion into the Start Harp program) but on two tunes that aren’t in the 3 levels of Start Harp. Each Immersion gives you at least a particular warm-up technique, a “moving on technique” (something extra special), Everyday Exercises, the main tune (with sheet music), a “Tune by Ear” (another tune taught without sheet music), and ideas for improving and extending the tune. Some Immersions also give you additional sheet music for the tune, like an ensemble version that you can play with others, or a countermelody you can use to extend the solo piece. Shelley Fairplay offers so much of herself to her students. It’s a pleasure to learn from her as her passion bubbles over in everything she does.

I joined Shelley's on-line course just as she started it, when I first bought a small 12 string harp. I have truly enjoyed all aspects of the course, and found that it is far more interactive than the description "on-line course" implies. Shelley makes herself available to answer questions (not just in the fortnightly live Q&As). We get invaluable video feedback on our homework, and can watch each others' progress as well, which is very reassuring. The closed Facebook Group is really helpful too, as we all exchange ideas and harping issues, and can support each other as we learn. - Fiona Angwin
