Reviews of Friends' Meeting House
M. H.
A clean, useful, and sizeable venue. Unfortunately, it no long has on-the-road parking around it. It's for taxi only or just no longer available now. Taking a car here was once no problem. If you want to do that now, expecting to be looking all over, so give yourself extra time. Having said that, many visitors will be from local city centre flats these days, which kind of discriminates the rest of us.

First time I visited this building. I attended a course for a week there!. It's really nice inside. Very bright and clean!. Also the staff very friendly!. Would recommend a visit to anyone.

Very good venue, excellent facilities, great location. Only draw-back was the council noisily digging up the road outside [yet again].
Update, road finished, now quite outside.
T. M. W.
What was the date and name of the service?
6th Feb 2022. 10:30am service
How full was the building?
The Quakers meet in the best room to suit their numbers, so this room was about 90% full, but there are bigger rooms in the building. 15 in person, about 25 joined us online.
Did anyone welcome you personally?
Yes, we were received warmly by their greater, Jonathan.
Was your pew comfortable?
Yes, the chairs were comfy.
How would you describe the pre-service atmosphere?
Good. Fairly quiet but friendly pre-service atmosphere. One of us read about their work in Congo which was fascinating before a member started a friendly conversation.
What were the exact opening words of the service?
“Welcome to this service as we gather and settle.”
What books did the congregation use during the service?
None.
What musical instruments were played?
None.
Did anything distract you?
One of us was distracted by his own thoughts. Another by twigs rattling the window.
Was the worship stiff-upper-lip, happy clappy, or what?
There was no worship – the service was mostly silence, punctuated by the occasional contribution from members of the congregation.
Exactly how long was the sermon?
No sermon.
On a scale of 1-10, how good was the preacher?
NA.
In a nutshell, what was the sermon about?
NA
Which part of the service was like being in heaven?
One of us said their “soul being stirred.” Another said “The quietness of it.”
And which part was like being in... er... the other place?
None of it was like the other place.
What happened when you hung around after the service looking lost?
We all were engaged in conversation by various members of the congregation. They were lovely.
How would you describe the after-service coffee?
We had a fine brew of Clippers tea and standard coffee. Sadly no biscuits.
How would you feel about making another visit (where 10 = ecstatic, 0 = terminal)?
The three of us gave the following scores: 9, 7.5, 2.
Did the service make you feel glad to be a Christian?
Unanimous “Yes” all round.
What one thing will you remember about all this in seven days' time ?
Introspection – the space it offered to have a look inside oneself and have a good ol’ rummage round. Another said he would try to apply more quiet to everyday life.
Final reflections:
The Quakers were lovely people. We all felt very welcome by the engaging conversation both before and after the service. We were very impressed with their partnership work in the Congo and their obvious concern for making the world a better place. One of us said after “These are the type of people you would want running the government.” A combined total of 40 people attended, which seems like a very healthy number.

Having using the room for a first aid course i would recommend using this business, room was spacious clean well ventilated, tables had bottled water supplied. Staff were extremely helpful especially the young lady who showed me where the car park was, offered to carry my equipment in and lent me a trolley, another lady made sure i was able to park my car securely and in a space on site. Very please with the service i received

Have been to my share of events here now, rooms can get a bit cold is my only complaint

It's a quiet, relaxed and comfortable meeting and training venue.

My charity has used Friends' Meeting House, Manchester for Trustee Meetings for a number of years.
It's a central location with tram links to main line stations. The meeting rooms are great with no outside traffic noise or inside noise from other meetings taking place. Always a wide variety of good food & a very efficient friendly staff who are always ready go that 'extra mile' to make sure that you have everything you need to make a successful meeting.
I have no hesitation in recommending Friends' Meeting House.

A very good venue for public meetings and presentations.

It's a strange hall, full of wooden walls, stage, floor and upper seating. I believe it's a place that use to hold speaking worship and debates but it's no go for singing in.
There are other small rooms that I believe are used regularly and are used to run community workshops.

The best place in a busy city for peace, tranquility and thought provoking ideas on a Sunday morning!
J. R.
Not the best place for a BBC event, which was why I was there. Staff checked tickets at the door and then sent people away into the heavy rain - telling us to come back in 20 minutes. And don't get me started on the pathetic BBC bag check we endured on our return!
