Reviews of Custom House Plymouth
K. K.Found this place by chance whilst wandering the Barbican on a Friday night! The building is gorgeous and you have to walk a long hallway to get to the bar, which makes it feel like a speak easy! We chose to sit at the sofa back at the front door so we could enjoy the warm evening and people watch. Cocktails were good!
W. S.Booked in for the Sunday roast at 1pm. Can not fault the food. It was excellent. The roast beef was clearly a quality cut and cooked perfectly.
However, other aspects of the visit left us agreeing that it's not somewhere we will go back to.
Firstly the meal arrived without the Yorkshires and we had to ask for them. Then we realised we had nothing to serve the veggies with, which were all served in individual dishes. Staff member disappeared and came back with a very large slotted spoon, that you would use in the kitchen, not at the table, so we resorted to using our own forks.
The thing that has reduced my rating the most though, was the live music. I cannot fault the artist; she was good. But she was way too loud. Even after she'd asked us if she was too loud and turned down her amp, she was still too loud.
Sunday lunch is surely a time when families and friends go out to socialise over food, and talk? We had to shout to each other. It was ridiculous. LIve music should be the preserve of an evening when you go out to drink, and when you expect it, not when you sit down to a relaxing Sunday roast.
When the waitress arrived and asked if we'd like to see the dessert menu or get the bill, we opted for the bill immediately. The establishment did itself out of selling 3 desserts and additional drinks.
k. h. (.Great setting. Fab location! The interior was so pretty. Limited menu for vegetarians (only one choice on the menu for main meal so marked it down one star) however, the cocktails were great and the food we had was so nice! Lovely atmosphere and will definitely visit again

A truly wonderful visit with a group catered for in a spectacular setting.
I can not recommend Custom House highly enough, the service was fantastic, and the truly talented chef delivered food that was delicious , innovative and absolutely amazing!

Downstairs is the atmospheric cocktail bar where you are entertained by the very talented mixologists as they concoct the most delicious cocktails and where you can indulge yourself with delightful "tapas" style morsels created by the imaginative and clever chef Alex Gibbs. There is music to keep you in the mood and during the day service on the terrace at the front of the building so that you can enjoy the sun and sea. What more could you ask for?

S. R.Home after an amazing Sunday lunch at one of Plymouth's smartest & friendliest venues - the Custom House. Stunning decor, perfect ambience, outstanding customer service & the food....well what can I say? Sublime! Every mouthful a gastronomic treat for the palate - Executive Chef Alex really delivers! We enjoyed tender, medium rare roast beef, roast potatoes, and a range of perfectly cooked veg but the piece de resistance is Alex' cauliflower cheese - out of this world! Bar tender Alex poured us the perfect Amaretti sour pre-lunch and made sure the cabernet sauvignon served with lunch was just right! Oh and did I mention that everything is all wrapped up with live music courtesy of some extremely talented guitarists - not too intrusive but perfectly pitched! Thank you - we will certainly be back.
