Reviews of Mr James Lewis

Very pleased with all James Lewis contact from the initial knee replacement consultation, through the operation procedure and then with the after care. Every step of the innovative procedure was well explained verbally and in writing. Considerable thought was given to post operative pain control.

Mr Lewis replaced the whole knee joint on my right leg with the Conformis Custom Total Knee Replacement system on 16th May 2018. It is 6 x weeks today and I am walking normally, mostly without a stick and I feel the improvements every day. He had previously fully explained the procedure and what I should expect afterwards and so far that has been what has happened, I have got full movement of my knee from straight to fully bent, still working on leg strength. The scar is hardly visible.
I am so pleased that I found Mr Lewis on an Internet search and will be recommending him to anyone who asks, I may have to have my left knee done sometime soon and will have absolutely no qualms at all about Mr Lewis doing it, in fact I would be very disappointed if he doesn't.

I’ve had my left knee replaced with conformist only yesterday by Mr James Lewis at Goring Hall. Apart from some pain owing to swelling to be expected I am amazed how it feels just like my old knee. I live in Kent yet was prepared to travel to Worthing and back just so I could come under James’ care. Having hearing issues means I would not be able to lipread any of the staff, James had kindly arranged for all the staff including himself to wear see through face shields which was fantastic. So only on my second day I feel great optimism and confidence going forward. There is no where else I would go or trust to handle my knee replacement, thank-you James.

Over the course of the last 5 weeks I have had both knee joints replaced by Mr James Lewis at Goring Hospital following issues with previous surgery and I can’t speak highly enough about the standard of service and care I received during each procedure.
Let’s be quite clear, knee surgery and a degree of pain go hand in hand and you shouldn’t expect otherwise, but James explained precisely what he was planning to do, how he was going to do it and most importantly implement a strict recovery programme aimed at minimising the risk of infection. He is the complete professional, not only in his role as a highly qualified surgeon but is always available to talk through any issues or worries you may have, and I’ve had a few!
It’s also important to highlight the fact that Goring is a tightly knit and well oiled team, so once James and his brilliant anaesthetists (thank you Gavin) have done their work the aftercare is equally impressive and I include nurses, physios, cleaners, porters and kitchen staff here, they’re all so welcoming and helpful even when you’re not feeling 100%.
The left knee was operated 5 weeks ago, I was up and about after 2 and able to walk unaided after 4, almost completely pain free now and very happy with the successful outcome - hoping the right one will be even quicker.
James thank you once again for your care and attention, I thoroughly recommend your services to anyone needing similar surgery.

Following my previous operations by various other consultants, I met with James, his advice, skill and professionalism was second to none and has given me back confidence for the future. Withstanding the fact the I have had one led amputated, the knee replacement has been a total success so that I can move around more freely after a couple of days. The aftercare and advise from James has been excellent and would recommend him as a consultant surgeon.

My name is Victor (Vic) Smith and for the past 5 years I have been under the care and supervision of Mr. James Lewis at BMI Goring Hall. I have two total knee replacements that were performed by two different surgeons 8 and 20 years ago. Due to the ageing process and ongoing pain and discomfort Mr. Lewis and I agreed it was time for a revision of the Tibia to the total knee replacement for the left side. In mid September 2021 Mr Lewis performed the revision operation at BMI Goring Hall. The pre operative information and post operative care were nothing short of 5 star and I was able to leave hospital 24 hours after surgery. I left hospital with a drug pain relief schedule and a detailed report penned by Mr Lewis of the revision operation and post operative programme. Mr Lewis recommended the hire of the Game Ready Icing Machine which has been a great help to ease pain and swelling post operation. It is now 5 weeks post operation and I have attended two excellent physiotherapy appointments at Goring Hall which are really helping my programme to full recovery in the future. I would highly recommend Mr James Lewis as a top class Orthopedic Surgeon and his award winning enhanced recovery and innovative no hammer technique and Tourniquet free revision of Tibia to Total Knee Replacement. With Thanks V J Smith 16/10/21

I had a revision of my right knee replacement on the 20th of November. Mr Lewis has replaced my right hip and my right knee a few years ago with a good outcome so I knew I'd be in good hands with him before I saw him. My diagnosis was a bit complicated, however the first time I saw him he said straight away that he promised me that he would work with me to sort it out. This instilled my trust and faith in him and I knew he would do exactly that.
Its now 2 weeks after my revision operation and I'm already feel the benefit of the surgery although I have a bit of time to work to strengthen the knee.
All of the staff were fantastic and kind and professional from the moment I was admitted to the moment I was discharged. I would recommend Mr Lewis 100 percent. For anyone who needs help and new knee/hip replacement. To me he's the best surgeon. He listens makes time to answer questions all with a smile and a surety of confidence which is totally outstanding. Thank you Mr Lewis and all your team for your outstanding care and treatment towards me. You enable people to regain a quality of life that many take for granted...A totally amazing man

I had a full knee replacement carried out by James Lewis and his team at Goring Hall just 4 weeks ago.
The care and treatment I received were excellent and I was in hospital for just two nights. When I left I could walk with sticks and negotiate stairs. I was given a bag of pain killing tablets and instructions on timing to use them. I also had a series of exercises suggested by the physio. In addition I was told of some follow up telephone calls I would receive in order to check on my progress.
I can say that the whole process went very smoothly and I am very satisfied. I can now walk without sticks or any other aids and am gradually improving further. I do still have some aches and pains to cope with but believe these will get less as the healing process to this major operation continues, so I am optimistic for the long term outcome. Mr. Lewis was approachable, reassuring and would answer my questions properly, and I think his work was excellent. The scar is healing well and will be barely visible in a few months time. My thanks to the whole team at Goring Hall.

If you have any concerns about having knee surgery put them to one side. Mr Lewis is very progressive, forward thinking in his methods and techniques, whilst setting the bench mark in his profession. Having a half knee joint replaced after 19 years now to a full knee replacement the treatment and aftercare has moved forward. The methods used eliminated the unpleasant side effects of general anaesthetic making recovery time shorter.

When I first met Mr Lewis I was in a bad way being hardly able to walk or stand. I had been told many horror stories about knee operations that had gone wrong but his confidence soon reassured me that these stories were historic and that knee operations were now very successful. My first total knee replacement was exactly 4 weeks before my son’s wedding and was so successful that I enjoyed the whole day with no problems at all.
I have recently had my other knee replaced, 8 months after the first one. I was discharged after one night and was able to easily climb the stairs in my house. Within two weeks I was walking without sticks.
Knee replacements can be very painful but Mr Lewis has a very structured regime for after care and medication. James Lewis is a brilliant surgeon who has transformed my life as I am now walking properly for the first time in years. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
B. S.
Mr Lewis performed my total knee replacement using the innovative non tourniquet, hammer free technique.
I woke up after surgery and was amazed to discover that I had no pain and had a full range of movement in my knee. Including a full bend and total knee lock. My other knee was replaced 10 years ago, so I was expecting some pain.
I was able to walk unaided from day 2 and my new knee feels like my 'own' knee. Recovery time has also been greatly reduced.
Mr Lewis and his team advised me about my treatment at every stage.
I would like to thank him and his team for giving me the opportunity to walk pain free again.
I would thoroughly recommend Mr Lewis to anyone requiring this operation.

I have had both of my knees replaced by Mr.Lewis , my right knee last August and my left knee two weeks ago. I carried out a lot of research over the past few years into which type of knee would be best, and kept coming back to the Conformis Custom, which is custom made specifically for the individual. My personal requirements were simple, I just wanted a new knee that felt perfectly natural, I did not want one that I was continually aware of, as many people seem to suffer post operation. This choice led me to Mr.Lewis.
Well I am six months on with my right knee and it is 100%, I am two weeks on with my left knee and I can honestly say that I feel I am at about 90% with it already! The recovery this time round has been truly amazing.
I saw Mr.Lewis earlier this week for my first post-op consultation and he informed me that he had made a few slight 'tweaks' to the procedure since my first operation, which he hoped would reduce pain and swelling, well they certainly have, to almost minimal levels. I was driving at one week post op, I can easily walk round the block and I can just about manage the stairs normally one leg after the other, from my previous experience this was the last thing to come back.
One tip I would give anyone considering this operation, is to try and build up your leg muscles, as best you can, before the operation, as my quads completely packed up with my first knee which slightly slowed my recovery. However, the Physio sorted this out and I made sure that I built them up in my left leg prior to my second op.
I cannot thank Mr.Lewis enough for the work he has carried out on me, he is probably one of the best Orthopaedic surgeons you will find. I would also like to thank the staff at Goring Hall Hospital for two perfect stays with them, they too are excellent

Having had a full 'off the shelf' knee replacement some twelve years previously (not by Mr Lewis) which resulted in a very long painful recovery, to say I was apprehensive about having another knee replacement was putting it mildly.
I thank my lucky stars the day I came across James Lewis and his Conformis Knee replacement.
From my first contact with him I knew I had found the right surgeon for me, I felt relief and hope that I wouldn't be having the same experience again. In fact I'm sure he said I was in for a treat! but as it turned out, he was right.
What a difference with the Conformis Knee. From the moment you wake up it's your knee. Yes there is some discomfort, it's an operation but on a 1 to 10 scale my pain never went over a 2. I thank James Lewis for this, he has his own distinct way that he treats his patients, from the carefully selected drugs and the fact he has you drinking and eating post op. I was up and moving within hours and extending and flexing my knee. The day after my operation being the 21/3/2019 I left Goring Hall with a walking stick, I used this the following day and never again. I was walking totally unaided and in under seven days I was up in the morning walking the dog, albeit at a slow and steady pace.
I took James Lewis advice and hired the Game Ready Ice machine to use at home and booked for physio sessions. I went to see Sarah Jeremy who works out of the Lanes Health Club at Rustington and I cannot recommend her highly enough. I am in my seventies and have been to a fair few physios and I can say she is the best ever. Her expertise is second to none and I particularly like the way Sarah explains what she is doing in layman's terms.
So with the expert care from the exceptional James Lewis and his team at Goring Hall along with the best physio in town I was on the golf course at four weeks using a buggy , at six weeks walking the course and I've commenced ballroom classes, nothing can stop me now. It's great to have my life back pain free.
You do need to make the physical effort to strengthen and relax muscles etc., there is some discomfort but so much to gain.
If you are looking for a knee replacement I have no hesitation in recommending the Conformis Knee replacement by James Lewis and his team, supported by Sarah Jeremy for physio.

Fantastic, James Lewis is brilliant at knee replacements, I had mind done yesterday 1st June, and I was walking later that day. Today is 2nd June and I can do steps. Wow Wow Wow, what a surgeon, I’m so impressed. Also I must say thank you to all the Nurses, very caring and always smiling and being positive. Thank you.
It’s now Jan 22nd 2022, it’s 4 months since my total knee replacement. here I am in Colorado skiing, I didn’t think it was going to be possible, but I am over the moon at how well this is all gone, I cannot recommend Mr James Lewis highly enough. Thank you again

I had my knee replacement on the 17th October and a month to the day I started driving again. I haven’t been in pain at all and dispensed with the walking sticks fairly early on. The staff at Goring Hall were very helpful, caring and extremely professional and Mr Lewis filled you with confidence from the first time I saw him. I would have no hesitation in recommending James Lewis and his team for a replacement knee - just superb!

My wife Anne had a total knee replacement with a conformist implant on the 2nd of December 2020. The result is just amazing,no pain and walking normally 4weeks after surgery. Mr Lewis and the whole team at Goring Hall were fantastic, the attention to detail amazing, she cannot praise Mr Lewis’s skill as a surgeon highly enough.

10 days ago I had my right knee replaced by Mr Lewis and I am very pleased to report that it has gone as well as the left which he replaced 3 years ago. Since the morning after the operation I have been up walking, and except for the expected swelling and occasional ache I have been pain free.
The information and care I have received has been outstanding. I would recommend, and have done already, that Mr Lewis is definitely the man to see if you need a knee replacement. He has changed my life and I cannot wait to re-join my friends on their bird watching trips.

5 weeks ago Mr Lewis replaced both my knees despite his initial reluctance. On the second day after the operation I was able to walk up and down stairs with the aid of a stick and walked the hospital corridors quite painlessly. On day 7 I dispensed with sticks altogether and was teaching myself to walk normally again after many years of “hobbling”. I experienced very little pain, so much so that I gradually stopped taking the pain killers a week before the end of the schedule. I hired 2 Gameready ice machines, 1 for each knee, and these made a tremendous difference to reducing the swelling. Highly recommended. My physio is amazed at my progress and with his efforts and exercise the swelling has reduced considerably. I am extremely impressed with Mr Lewis’ treatment and expertise and “custom made knees” must be the way to go. I am also grateful to the excellent nursing staff at the Goring hospital.

I had suffered from both lumbar scoliosis with spinal stenosis and bilateral arthritis of my knees for many years and first consulted Mr Lewis in 2015 for treatment for my knees. At that time, symptoms did not warrant surgery and injection therapy was successful. By 2019 symptoms had deteriorated and following further detailed consultation I elected to have both knees replaced. I was very impressed with the explanations about the risks and rewards of surgery as well as the expected recovery.
In February 2020, both knees were replaced; the procedures were performed six days apart on an overnight stay basis. The ward physiotherapy post-operatively was both thorough and effective and the use of an ice/compression therapy device both as an in-patient and after discharge was extremely helpful in minimising post-operative swelling. The knees were uncomfortable, but the post-operative analgesia regimen was extremely effective and my sleep was scarcely disturbed. A slightly longer gap between procedures might have made using stairs a little easier but wound healing was uncomplicated and mobility improved rapidly.
Prior to surgery, friends of mine who had undergone the same procedure (albeit unilaterally) had warned me of their lengthy recovery from pain and stiffness. My experience was completely different. When I attended physiotherapy two weeks following the second procedure, I was told by the therapist that I had already reached the twelve-week recovery point so that no further physiotherapy would be of benefit and that I should simply continue my home exercise program.
I can only thank Mr Lewis for his surgical skill, his anaesthetist for a trouble-free anaesthetic as well as the ward staff and physiotherapist for their exemplary care. My knees continue to function normally.
Comment: as Jena’s partner and retired orthopaedic surgeon, I can only echo her comments, but professionally I was impressed by his use of a custom-made implant to ensure surgical accuracy, his evident skill and atraumatic surgical technique and his attention to post-operative analgesia, which definitely speeded her recovery.

I think Mr James Lewis is a fantastic surgeon, I'm extremely grateful to him. On Tuesday I had a revision to full knee replacement and 24 hours later I was on my feet with 1 stick for help. As a surgeon he is a master of his craft and all relevant details, but he also looks at the patient as a whole with great effect. He is very transparent, helpful, approachable - I am so very lucky to have been treated by him. I highly recommend him.

I write this 4 weeks post surgery. This was my second total knee replacement and, by comparison, the procedure carried out by James Lewis was exceptional in that the post op pain was at about 1/10 and, during the past 4 weeks, only on one day did the pain exceed this rising to an acceptable 2/10 due to excessive exercise! The post operative pain has remained very low due to the precise and effective pain management protocol established by James.
I elected to use the Conformis bespoke knee on this occasion, and believe this decision, guided by James, was in part the reason that this replacement was so much easier than the previous one.
I was walking, under the guidance of excellent physiotherapy staff, the same day as surgery and by day 2 was walking with one stick and climbed a set of stairs!! Walking unaided within 10 days and able to ascend and descend stairs reasonably comfortably within the same period. The wound has healed well and with zero infection. James is, understandably, obsessive regarding the avoidance of infection.
My period in hospital at Goring was excellent with attentive nursing and ancillary staff. The food choices and quality was remarkable. I could not have received better treatment.
I am indebted to everyone at Goring, James, Gavin (anaesthetist) and all the nursing and ancillary staff. Many thanks.

Had my 1st knee done ( plate behind kneecap and realignment) 9 weeks ago. Mr James lewis is an excellent surgeon and very neat scars. Painkillers keep you at a level where you can function and focus on your physio safely. Due to covid it is phone consultations which is still very thorough. I am currently in with my other knee done 6 hours ago same procedure. 1st time I had general anathestic and was home same day. Back at work part time after 3 weeks ( due to work/sickness) then part time for 2 weeks. I had spinal and general anathestic this time and later in the day so I am staying in overnight. So far great movement on 1st knee no more usual pain ( just healing stuff) expecting the same great results on my other knee.

I had a knee replacement 5 weeks ago by Mr Lewis after having pain in my knee over the past 10 years. the service at Goring Hall Hospital by the staff from the time I arrived was excellent and welcoming. Mr Lewis explained the procedure and made sure I understood. I now have no pain.
All the staff after the operation were great and the physiotherapy dept has been excellent. Thank you Mr Lewis.

I cannot thank Mr Lewis enough for all his surgical brilliance and the post operative care plan he put in place when I recently had a total knee replacement.
Over the last few years I had been suffering a great deal of pain and my moblilty was becoming a real issue. Having explored all the ways possible to manage a life of increasing restrictions I reluctantly decided it was time to be radical and go for having a new knee. I began researching surgeons and discovered Mr Lewis. When we met he was welcoming and very enthusiast about his work. He explained clearly the process of the operation and I went away feeling totally confident that I was doing the right thing. I was particularly encouraged to hear about the potential for the operation being pain free. It didn’t somehow seem possible that you could cut out a knee, put in a new one and it could be pain free. However, it was clear I was in safe and extremely capable hands.
I underwent the operation at Goring Hospital (Conformis Knee with spinal anaesthetic ) and unbelievably just as I was told I went home pain free the next day using only one stick for security. To be honest I didn't really need the stick after that. The hospital team were very attentive and efficient and I noticed they had very specific and clear guidelines from Mr Lewis as to how to care for his patients. Again I found this reassuring.
When I came home from hospital after the operation it was with a meticulously planned programme of self care. Clear directions for medication, exercise, rest and ice therapy were given. I rented the ice machine and this was tremendously helpful (although be prepared you will use 4 bags of ice a day!). I was encouraged to call the ward or email Mr Lewis if I had any concerns and as I had left hospital so quickly this felt very supportive. I am still amazed by the pain free aspect of the operation. It has meant that I can do the all important exercises relatively freely.
At home 12 days after the operation I am comfortably mobile and apart from moving freely around the house can go out for short walks and to the shopping centre to look for post operative treats! My leg can feel quite stiff, tight and tingly at times (the norm) especially if I have been particularly active. However it is not overly swollen, the plaster is off and the wound is healing very well. There were no stitches or clips to remove.
Thank you again Mr Lewis. In the words of my physiotherapist the recovery is ‘phenomenal’ and that is all down to you.

I had a total knee replacement just 2 weeks ago, 26 October 2019. I am highly delighted with the result. I’m walking without a stick, taking the dog for a walk although a little stiff but pain free, this will remedy its self with Physo and time. This was revision procedure from 3 years ago (not done by James Lewis) which had been very painfully from the get go. Mr Lewis’s technique resulted in minimal pain and very little bruising. The whole experience from 1st consultation to being signed off in two weeks is amazing. I’m actually looking forward to getting the other knee done in the spring.

I recently had full knee replacement surgery by James Lewis. The initial consultation was excellent, with a detailed explanation of my condition, the operation and the recovery programme. The operation went well, and Mr Lewis' enhanced recovery programme led to my walking unaided within two weeks. My scar shows every sign of dwindling to an almost invisible line, and I could not be more pleased with the entire experience.

As a young aspiring footballer it was extremely important to keep my fitness and to try to avoid any major injuries. In early October 2018, I tore my Anterior Cruciate ligament but I was not aware of it for a month even after consultation at the NHS. The first time I met Mr. Lewis he instantly diagnosed me expertly and reassured me that I would be able to play football again.
Mr.Lewis personally did the surgery at his clinic; welcomed me and my mother with superb hospitality and very friendly nurses, doctors, staff members etc. A typical Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction takes 90 minutes, however Mr.Lewis and his team went the extra mile to provide added stability to my knee. This was to ensure that when I returned to high intensity football I would not risk re-rupture.
At this point my knee is almost as good as it was before he injury; I am returning to sport at a high level soon because of his great help and him doing more than what was needed to make sure I will be able to do what I loved.
A very highly recommended surgeon with an array of expertise and great hospitality at his clinic.

Mr James Lewis performed a Conformis total knee replacement for me 7 weeks ago. I was really apprehensive about the whole procedure, but Mr Lewis explained everything in a concise and professional way.
The operation went very smoothly thanks to the dedicated work of James and his whole team at Goring Hall Hospital. Medication and support post op. were amazing. Remarkable work by Sarah Jeremy, physio, referred by Mr Lewis and I am walking with no pain, having been unable to walk any distance prior to my op due to osteoarthritis.
Will have to have 2nd knee done, probably within 5 years but shall not be worried so long as Mr Lewis is available.
Many thanks to James, his whole team and staff at Goring Hall Hospital.

I have had both of my knees joints replaced by James Lewis this year with Conformis prosthesis, the first in April and the second in early October 2017. Although early in the recovery cycle, my second replacement has been quicker to recover than the first, which in itself was fast and stayed in hospital less than 36hrs. I started physio seven days after the operation and after 3 weekly visits have been signed off. I continue to do the exercises at home until my flexibility is maximised. Pain management has been excellent throughout and whilst its an experience that I would prefer not to have had, I am extremely pleased with the results to date. James is very personable, professional and a great surgeon who is keen to continually improve the patient experience through the feedback he and his excellent team request.

I had my right kneecap replacement done by Mr Lewis on 1st May. Two and a half weeks later I’m out walking with sticks and couldn’t be happier. My pain levels aren’t to bad either. The care I had from Mr Lewis has been first class and would recommend that anyone who needs any sort of treatment on their knees, they should contact him first.

I had a Conformis total left knee replacement mid Jan 2018.
James provided a thoroughly comprehensive explanation of my options and his recommendations.
His professionalism and quest to provide a first class service made the whole process of operation, and recovery as comfortable and effective as possible.
The Conformis custom solution does indeed ensure the replaced knee feels like my own
His post operative plans for medication and exercise ensured my recovery was well ahead of the schedule, and continues on this very upward trajectory.
I recommend the Game Ready compression and icing solution as this allowed swelling to be managed and reduced pain significantly.
I would recommend both James Lewis and Goring hall for their excellent care and performance.
Thanks All.

I had a total knee replacement carried out by James in early October. I am absolutely delighted by the outcome. James attention to detail is outstanding- A full information pack is provided on the day of the operation which includes full details of operation, advice on recovery and medications. I had an issue with medications, emailed James - he responded and resolved problem same day. In my view he sets the standard that all consultants should aspire too.

Following years of pain and swelling in both knees brought on by my work and osteoarthritis and following on 12 years after Mr Derek McMinn carried out a very successful resurfacing of both my hips, I sought out Mr James Lewis as being local and able to offer a similar level of experience and technical knowledge with regard to the the Cemented Conformis Total Knee Replacement.
The initial consultation was held without delay at Goring Hall Hospital. Being of an engineering bent myself, I was impressed with the considerable lengths Mr Lewis had gone to to satisfy himself that this procedure was the best available. He had used his experience and researched in depth to ensure that every possible step had been taken to ensure a swift and successful operation with the minimum level of pain and discomfort. He also has a very nice and effective way of explaining things and was completely open and upfront with regard to answering my questions.
We agreed at this meeting that both of my knees were to be replaced, the left in seven weeks time and the right six weeks later. I was to pay for both operations myself on a fixed price basis and every assistance was provided for this by Mr Lewis and his staff.
Whereas most out-patients clinics can be busy and confusing, my arrival and processing at Goring Hall Hospital last Wednesday at 07:15 was calm, professional and well ordered. In fact my 30 hours stay in the hospital was like being a part of a well-oiled and well-functioning machine.
Everyone I came into contact with was kind, thoughtful and had a positive outlook. Great care was taken at every stage to explain what was being done and why, which I found to be very reassuring.
Any anxiety I had was minimized at each stage and the only relatively slight sting was the injection into the lower back but it was soon over and since then I can honestly say that although there is some residual stiffness any pain has been slight indeed and quickly dealt with by suitable medication.
Following the hour and a half operation, I was returned to the private room where the catering and facilities were of a very high standard. Apart from a blood pressure test, I slept solidly for 7 hours without any pain or discomfort.
I was kept fully occupied for the remaining time by the nursing staff who were diligent in their attention to detail and physiotherapists who went to no end of trouble to explain which exercises would be most beneficial. They were able to have me walking with a frame within two hours of the operation and learning how to tackle a set of stairs and walk with one stick the following morning before going home.
The attention to detail at every stage was reassuring and ensured that I was returned home with all the advice, equipment and drugs necessary for a speedy recovery.
Already the range of movement and the stability of the leg surpasses my expectations and on the first day at home I can move freely around the house with only slight use of a stick.
I can't say I'm actually looking forward to having the right knee operated on in a few weeks time but I know what to expect now and not to be afraid or anxious. The operations to my hips restored my pain-free mobility years ago and I have every confidence the operations to my knees by Mr James Lewis will have the same outcome.
J. W.
The whole experience could not have been better. James inspires total confidence in the Conformis system and his skill and experience in fitting this type of knee replacement is excellent. I'm so happy I heard about it as it's a vast improvement on the standard type of knee replacement. Would wholeheartedly recommend James Lewis to all with arthritis in the knee.

I cannot rate Mr Lewis highly enough he carried out an outstanding surgery in replacing my knee with the Conformis knee replacement, custom made for my knee thereby ensuring a perfect fit.The quality of his surgery and that of his team was absolutely excellent.Following surgery physiotherapy was carried out by John Charman of Fontwell on Mr Lewis's recommedation, again superb treatment and only 6 session were required.
Now 8 weeks on I am walking perfectly with no pain and completely unaware that I have a new knee, except that I can now walk without any pain in my knee, oustanding.
Thank you Mr Lewis and the Team

The treatment that I have received from James, from start to finish, has been first class. From first consultation he made made me feel comfortable with what was going to happen and the ongoing process has been as he advised. Two weeks later I am recovering well, walking unaided and almost pain free already. Would certainly have no hesitation in recommending James or the facilities at Goring Hall.

Mr Lewis is an amazing surgeon who has provided me with two Conformis knee replacements which allow me to pursue my active lifestyle to the full. He is professional, thorough and gives confidence to his patients through his high level of qualification, clear approach and informative manner. He is the only surgeon I considered for my surgeries. Thank you.

I have just had my right hip replaced on Tuesday by Mr Lewis.. a joy of a man and a special temperament for any good doctor.. immediately putting me at my ease.. I thank him for that as I was indeed a bag of nerves and in dreadful pain.. My operation was done that afternoon and I woke to a recovery room with a lot of cheerful people around me. Yes of course I had pain, but nothing compared to what I had been through these last 8 months, and a pain that would be gone in a couple of days . My life at 80 yrs can start again. The staff were all attentive and kind, nothing was too much trouble, and I was treated as one of their own.. just as anyone would wish to be treated anywhere.. I wish to thank every single person in that hospital, and I feel quite sad to be leaving to go home.. Most definately 5 star treatment and attention.. Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart. There is no doubt in my mind that Mr Lewis is one of the top surgeons nationally. Pre-operatively, his advice is sound and considered.
Post operatively, so far, I have been delighted with the outcome of my surgery, I have been mobilised quickly and have received excellent pain relief and advice, all part of an enhanced recovery process.
His infection rates are comparable with any nationally and I would no hesitation in recommending Mr Lewis to any of my family or friends.

Really pleased with how well my replacement knee surgery has gone (November 2017). The procedure and what to expect post surgery were both well explained by both James Lewis and supporting team at Goring Hall. I am well on the road to recovery and getting back to leading an active lifestyle.

Replacement knee operation
James explained the operation in a calm and easy manner to understand, spending time to allay any fears.
The operation went exactly as he explained and the recovery was much easier than I imagined, with the care given afterwards.
I am so pleased with the outcome that I would recommend him without any hesitation.
Many Thanks James

I would highly recommend Mr. James Lewis.
He identified the pain I was in immediately. He admitted me for my knee replacement extremely quickly. It has been a resounding success. The very next day I was up walking and able to bend my knee. He has given me my life back and words cannot express my gratitude to him.
