Reviews of Gloucester Services Northbound
L. M.
Fantastic services for food and drink options.
Shopping for your journey also excellent .
Children's play area well worth a visit. Outdoor area a welcome relief from the tedium of driving with its lovely pond area and seating .
Lots of toilets for all including baby change facilities.
Spacious inside and extensive seating areas some by the large windows and others in quieter spaces.
Wish my latte could have been hotter !
A. R.
Loved it....what a find. The restaurants had good food and plenty of room for social spacing. The farm shop was fantastic. All great quality goods, food and drink. We were more than happy with our artisan sourdough loaf, organic vegetables and homemade pie. I will definitely drop by again when travelling this route
F. R.
An amazing eco-friendly service station. Built under a hill, covered in wildflowers.
Inside is a farm shop with some lovely produce, as well as eating areas and the usual seating areas. The toilets were spotless, including the disabled and family changing areas.
Outside were some dinky little covered individual seating areas, each with a table and a couple of benches.
There were some lovely dog walking areas as well as areas for caravans.
Can't wait to be back in the area to visit again!

Beautiful place with organic food. Food for the body and soul. Nutritious food and meals for the whole family and all ages. Whole bread, red and yellow tomatoes. Buns, rolls, sweaters for the young and the old. Beef, duck, pork, chicken and pickles of almost everything. Preserving flavour and nutrition . Retaining the best of both worlds.
Good place for some time away from home with the family and yes including the dog. Bring your doggy for some soft time here and remember to pickup after your pet.
A sign will be shown when a male is cleaning the ladies room. When you come to the UK create time to pass by this place
C. B.
Lovely services. Quality food. Nice coffee. Clean toilets. Nice outdoor space to sit and stretch legs. Small play area for younger children inside snd outside. Pricey but I thought was value for money £41 for 4 breakfasts and drinks. If you want cheaper chain-brand food carry on to next services for mcds.
H. H.
Amazing service station. Great food. If I lived in Gloucester I would consider coming here just for the food lol. Kids eat for £1 with a full priced adult meal. Kids portion could actually feed an adult who doesn't eat much.
If we ever head down this side of the UK will definitely pay this place a visit.
H. R.
Beautiful place with food hall, mini pond and outdoor sitting.
I have ordered a burger but they said they don’t have tomato in their kitchen 🍅
They have a farm shop just in there and sell all the fruits and vegetables.
I bought a tomato from them and asked the guy to just add it my burger.
Burger was nice but I found it very inconvenient as they do sell tomatoes why their kitchen doesn’t have it?
We ordered fish and chips as well , it taste nice but the batter was too thick and dry.
I would come back here for tea and pudding but not for meal.
E. J. C.
What a wonderful place. Its more than just a services / farm shop /deli and closer to an upmarket department store Food Hall. It feels like it is loved by its staff, and the little attentions to detail are modern and classy.
R. C.
I wish all motorway services were like this one. Great place to stop if you have a dog or just want to stretch your legs / take a short break to just admire the view. There are walks, dog bowls everywhere, it's very wheelchair friendly, there's a good farmshop with some lovely things to eat or buy as gifts and it's a place trying to be more environmentally conscious with recycling and reuse in evidence in many places. There is also a very pleasant outdoor seating area by a small lake or you can sit under a canvas marquee with straw bales.
D. W.
Best services on the M5. It isn't often you can say there is a great wildlife walk(s) from this service station and a lovely evening sun outdoor café by the wildlife pond to have a drink afterwards. The place is almost a destination in itself.
The car charger worked flawlessly.
S. B.
Simply the best motorway services I've visited.
Between the farm shop, available food, and quick kitchen, this place is great. Much better than the usual McDonald's/Costa etc you see on motorways.
The pies and sausage rolls are excellent!
R. M.
Beautiful stop and dog walk. Even the sausage roll from the shop was good. We stayed over an hour in the fields and playground.
S. B.
Lots of choice to shop and eat. Not your typical services. Some amazing finds for gifts. Knocked off a point as so bloody expensive!!!
S. B.
Really lovely set up here at the services. There is a farm type produce shop and lots of space. Toilets were spotless. There is outdoor seating and a dog walking area. Plenty of parking for all types of vehicles.
S. C.
Ordered an oat flat white and a regular flat white to go, both were presented to us at the same time with no indication as to which was dairy free! Asked the boy serving and he said “I think it’s that one” all the staff were teenagers, needed some more mature management and allergen awareness!!
e. y.
Perfect stop when travelling with a dog, as lovely walk around it and plenty of outdoor spaces (some covered) where you can eat with your pet next to you. Make sure to check the spaces at the back of the building!
S. E.
If you want take a rest a bit, you must stop in this service, a nice and big farmshop there with a lots of drinks and delicious food, I highly recommend it
M.
Best service area ever. All local produce, black pudding scotch eggs yummy.
F.
First time stopping here on our way home from Bristol. Wondering produce, just awesome coffee, great services all round!! Purchased some amazing home made Wiltshire butter - what a treat!
J. W.
Lovely service station with high quality food and quite rustic appearance. There is seating outside which overlooks this lily pond where you can watch the dragonflies skimming the water and dancing in the air.
G. H.
Absolutely love it. Every part of my cottage core, nature loving personality was activated here. Almost everything is organic and locally sourced which means that you're not damaging the environment or your ethical stride. I love it so so much and the food there? Man I get so excited knowing I'm going on a road trip past here. I always get one of their varieties of scotch eggs where the yolk is so rich and the coating is absolutely sublime, salty and full of herbs and spices, not to mention they're HUGE! They have a beautiful garden area at the back that accommodates ducks due to the large pond they have and it always makes the little ones happy to see them. Love it so much.
L. G.
We do go out of our way to stop here when on a trip.
Whether it's stopping during a busy day period or a quiet late night stop, these services are well stocked with a wide variety of options from food and drink to gifts, clean facilities and seating inside or outside.
The lamb and mint pie is delicious!
P. H.
Miles and miles better than 99% of our service stations. Not bad but they need to keep checking and improving quality. The hot food on offer last time I was here was looking tired and dry. Trail blazing a better motorway services. Please keep looking for ways to improve! You are one of the best.
S. I.
Heard about the farm shop via its main outlet in the Lake District that's been on a channel 4 documentary. It's everything it said it would be in terms of dairy / meat / fresh baked and deli produce. Many local farmers are able to sell their wares to a wider audience here.
See my pictures of exotic pies. From £1.70 for a vegan pastie to £4+ for meat laden hot water crust you will be spoiled for choice. Less impressed by dried goods areas which has a heavy reliance on well known brands stocked elsewhere. Books, soft toys and clothing are there too. My Williamson tea in Elephant tins was not and the search for greengage jam goes on. Anyone reading this knows of a brand or outlet where l can get some please send me a message 😊.
The hot buffet section in the middle aisle of the main building had quite a queue as did the quick kitchen. There's a cute indoor wooden play area with wooden poles, a beehive area and a tree hut. The outdoor area is even more inventive with a circle of wooden stilts surrounding a moss clad metal play pod. There's also an active waterfall fish pond and on the far side of that there's a canvas sail gazebo with lounge chairs under it. This is a great place to pick up supplies for a self catering holiday or a return to civilisation necessity shop. One of these photos is my screen saver. I caught an artistic cloud reflection in the surface of the pond.
C. G.
Fantastic farm shop services. Not the cheapest, but the quality is amazing. We bought a large pumpkin from here when all of the local supermarkets were out of stock, my daughter loved it. I will definitely set this as my stopping place for all my journeys north.
S. B.
Great place to stop when on a motorway journey. Very different to the other motorway services. Good selection of foods available. The shop is amazing as it really is a farm shop. Despite being busy we were served quickly and there was sufficient seating. Prices were OK for a services. Thanks.
L. M.
What a brilliant find. It's almost worth travelling up the motorway for this stop! Gorgeous food, great choices. Lovely clean bathrooms. Gift shop is to die for. Well done all, you've changed the traditional motorway stop.
V. H.
Great stop for kids indoor and outdoor play area. Great place to stretch your legs. Doesn't feel like a normal services on a long journey. Separate seating area as well for the kids bit with microwave and bottle warmer.
R. K.
Motorway services as they should be no franchise fast food outlets, just good wholesome local products.
Open welcoming space with a great outdoor area at the rear.
Big car park with caravan and motorhome parking away from truck parking which means less chance of hgv’s parking there
R. K.
Amazing place, good food and local products. Restaurant/Bistro, Vafe and Farmshop. Toilets always clean. Spacious parking with dog walk area
L. B.
This services does one of the best sausage rolls out there, its quite pricey here but most service stations are. The one main thing that does let the place down for me though is the coffee.
I have been here many times, and most of the time the coffee is made too hot and just tastes bitter.
S. S.
I know we arrived later in the day on a Saturday, but there was very little food left and what was there had been in hot hold for too long. At what they're charging you would expect reasonably fresh food. Decided to go for a sandwich instead and that turned out to be stale. Facilities are very nice though and the farm shop was well stocked.
R. b.
What a lovely service station. Lovely fresh and organic produce. The area was nicely laid out and its nice to have greenery. I felt relaxed and rested and ready to face the next leg of my journey. We enjoyed a nice ice cream and sat outside, perfect for a hot sunny day.
L. H.
Fantastic place for a stop off. Dog friendly in the foyer and outside restaurant. There's a doggy walking path around the rear for a stretch of those 4 legs. The whole place is eco friendly and seriously considers the environment. There's nature zones and bug hotels and a pond for wildlife at the back. Inside consists of toilets, a quick snack bar, restaurant and farm shops with amazing choices of vegan soaps and natural foods and accessories and a mini supermarket. Clean, tidy and plenty of seating inside and out. You won't be disappointed here.
A. N.
Brilliant lots of choice of food freshly baked and good quality hot food . Spaces to eat in or out. Homemade biscuits delicious..to take home for treats... lots of choices for gifts for family and friends. Toilet facilities excellent clean and plenty of them. Will go again on way to or back from Devon or Cornwall.
G. K.
The best motorway service's we've ever visited
M. 1.
A great concept, build, ethos and delivery... prices are a bit steep, but with everything else being so good (and most service stations offering much lower standards and aspirations). Definitely worth planning as a stop on your journey - in both directions
P. H.
We stopped for a coffee and a bite to eat. There were a few gluten free options but not as many as I had hoped. Services are very clean and modern though and a refreshing change from the normal services you stop at.
C.
Lovely service area. The farm shop is great and the prices are realistic. The restaurant serves all home baked food and the coffee wasn't too bad. We sat outside in the sunshine overlooking the pond. It was all beautifully presented and clean. The toilets again were clean and had Dyson hand driers everywhere. I couldn't score this any less than 10 considering it is a mass market provider and is usually very busy.
p. t.
Never had such a good experience of a services on the motorway. The whole set up was spaced out, natural and lovely. The food was home cooked. The area was spacious. Clean toilets. They even had a shower. Parking for caravans and motorhomes were separate which was good. Lovely dog walk. Can't praise it enough. Felt relaxed and ready to carry on the trip after the visit.
A. S.
Brilliant M5 services, if you never want to see another Mac Donald's, Costa, Burger King etc again, then this is the place to stop. Fresh homemade food to eat and buy. Perfect for dogs with it's own dog walking trail.
Could happily sit, eat and shop for a good while!
X.
As far as services go you can get much better than this. Nice fresh food, good facilities, quiet and relaxing stop off location. Nice outdoor space with play area for younger kids to help break up a long journey
J. N.
A great place to stop and have some nice wholesome food. A great dog walking route and you can sit outside catching some sun while listening to the water in the pond. Also great for the shop, which sells a large selection of items, though it is more expensive than you're average shop.
T. S.
A great place to have a meal and stop for a bit of rest on your way to your destination.
C. G.
Posh food, slightly confusing if you just need a sandwich and brew as the normal sandwiches are not in main sit in food area but in shop and take away section. Other than that lovely setting, clean toilets and an out door area for seating, playing and stretching your legs. Worth calling in if you want a change from the normal services concessions but if you just want McDonald type food it isn't for you.
M.
If you are passing you have to stop, this is so much more than a rest stop! The shop is great, it has a butcher and a deli too! The restaurant has a great selection with a lovely outside seating area. If you need a quick snack they offer a quick bite with great pies, coffees, drinks etc if you don't want a full meal.
S. C.
Loved the fresh produce in farm shop.
The tea/coffee shop just outside the entrance really let the services down.
Incredibly slow 🐌. More staff are needed in that area. No sense of urgency no apology for extremely long wait and queue.
C. C.
Fabulous service station, a shining example of how all service stations should be. Great food, lovely shop and brilliant shower and family facilities. Plus the view with the waterfall is so relaxing during a break from a long journey.
A. H.
Great for HGV parking
SNAP not accepted
Very expensive for food
Clean services but more should be done to consider service for drivers.

Amazing farm shop and cafeteria at these services. Large parking, seating and resting areas. Lots of clean facilities. Fresh, local farm produce to enjoy there or take with you. Prices are quite a bit higher than supermarkets, but that is expected for the quality and the service provided.
H. R.
If only all motorway services were like this! Amazing farm shop. Bought bread, pastries, sausage rolls, burgers, cheese, fresh veg & EVERYTHING was delicious. Shame we were with a coach party otherwise would have spent a lot more time AND money here. Would happily drive from Bham to these services just to revisit this farm shop & buy more meat as the steaks looked top notch!
R. H.
Very expensive but you get what you pay for. The sausage rolls are amazing. My mum bought a steak from the butcher and said it was the best she's ever had. You need more seats outside not everyone wants/can to sit on the high chairs.
J. M.
Love this services as its the only one I know that has a dedicated dog walk. Thanks for being so dog friendly, it helps on our journey. The farm shop is excellent too. I would highly recommend this as a place to stop whilst travelling along the M5
J. L.
Super shop. Good choice of food and nice quality.
However some of the outside seating by the pond was occupied by people eating and drinking their own food and drinks, we bought our food from the restaurant but couldn't find a vacant table, this needs sorting.
Overall an excellent motorway services.
R. P.
Great service station (lol, who would have thought such a concept could exist!) which we always stop off at when travelling back from the South West. Always clean, shop is great and sells wide variety of food, drinks and other random things. Ate here and dinner was very reasonable and good quality.
J. B.
It was very busy. Went for the take out option this time round. We had the pies and chips. Nice food served warm recommend it.
Good facilities. Good farm shop. Worth a visit
S. K.
Probably one of the best pies I've tasted. Chicken and wild mushrooms locally baked. Excellent facilities and a stunning dog walking area. It everything you wouldn't expect to find at a motorway service station.
S. D.
The first family run motorway services in the UK with farm shop and kitchen, brimming with locally sourced quality produce and products. Other than the high prices, it simply cannot be compared to your run-of-the-mill motorway services in any other way. Most certainly a destination pit stop rather than one to avoid!
J. K.
Best of the rest. Quite easy to spend an hour here (more than just a toilet stop). The Farm Shop is a great place to pick up a few supplies for your return home.
C. B.
Great place for fresh Quality food, quite busy which I thought it would be. Plenty of parking space, restaurant & a quick takeaway food counter. Staff very friendly & happy to chat to you. Thank you will call again.
T.
Super clean and spacious services. Feels a lot more green than other similar places. There has been a lot of care and effort placed in the design of this area. 2 speedy EV chargers were available which is good but more are needed!
c. r.
Interesting service station with lake and ducks. Great range of goods and quick service
T. F. T.
Absolutely love this services!!
So much choice, good quality unusual products, gifts, food and drink.
It's practically a day out... so much so I've been so many times now I occasionally just go to eat as the restaurant food is so nice!!
Fresh, homecooked tasty food and something for everyone.
So much more than just a services, they should all be like this.
J. L.
Whilst most services are scruffy, expensive and full of junk food, the farmshop and restaurant at Gloucester services are the opposite, with a lovely restaurant, great shop, clean toilets and dog friendly outside seating area to the rear. It was unclear how to get to the dog friendly seating without walking right through the food service area but some polite staff directed me (it's through the corridor that leads to the toilets). They really need some signs for people with dogs. Overall an outstanding services which is completely ahead of the competition and worth a visit.
L. H.
Just wanted to say a huge thank you to Graham who enabled us to get our traditional annual biltong fix, we only ever stop at these services for this amazing choice at the pick and mix. It had been put away and it would have been so easy not to tell us that they still had it, Graham went above and beyond for us, thank you so much excellent customer service.
J. S.
Lovely services. Great breakfast. The deli is amazing, one big indulgent food temptation, high quality. Staff friendly, excellent service.
L. G.
An impromptu stop with a party of four brought us to this service area (When you've got to stop, you've got to stop!), Which seems reasonably new and nicely staffed. I'll give cleanliness 9/10, as the place was kept quite clean everywhere but the highly trafficked path to the loos. I'm not entirely certain what bit of unpleasantness I spotted there; but it was out of the way, so I didn't pay too much attention to it. We ordered sandwiches (photos of mine, a chicken and bacon box, are attached) and drinks (I had an interesting non-Coke cola - a touch of chill may have helped). The men's room was quite clean, with enough of all facilities to accommodate the crowd. Bonus points for that. There's also a pleasant bonus for folks needing gas (yep, I'm visiting from the States). Spending £15 on grub yields 10p/liter off fuel at the attached petrol station (and at two other locations).
J. G.
We always love stopping here. There's a guarantee of freshly prepared food and a pleasant atmosphere. Far better than the usual motorway stop off! Wish there were more places like this!
J. B.
This is a great service station. Stop here every year on the way home from our holidays - even the kids demand we do! Service excellent (Jasmine served us this time), food is top quality (prices v reasonable as well), toilets spotless and the location and ambience makes you feel that you are at a hotel rather than just off the M5. Top notch as always. Wish other service stations would follow suit.
P. M.
Love love LOVE!! Honestly never have and never will find a services I look forward to as much as this. It’s so well kept I want to buy everything in there! Only down side would be the very high end prices however products are also high end and well sourced. Even if you don’t need a break I would still recommend a stop here this place is sometimes better than the destination
H.
It's an incredible place in many respects, design, eco cred, etc. Extraordinarily expensive but bizarrely outstandingly busy.... go figure! Plenty of staff who were efficient and polite.
Very high standards of cleanliness and hygiene with routines and decent leadership in place.
Not a place to have an affordable snack but a great place nevertheless.
The farm shop was one of the best I've visited.
It was extremely bourgeois, middle class and little England but that is not actually a criticism.
EV charging was woeful, tight spaces and grossly inadequate.
B. E.
About as far from a motorway service station as you could imagine, yet it fulfills and in some aspects exceeds that role.
It has free parking, fuel, toilets, changing facilities, a restaurant serving hot food and drinks, and a faster 'takeaway' style section selling hot and cold snacks alongside hot and cold drinks; however, the quality is far beyond the normal service station stereotype.
Better to think of this place as a farm shop that happens to be on a motorway. In fact there's a farm shop on site with a proper butchers, fresh fish, a deli counter with excellent scotch eggs, cheese, fresh fruit & veg, cakes, handmade chocolates, alcohol, soft drinks, and a huge selection of kitchenware, homeware, and some clothing for good measure.
You do pay for quality though, and this place is fairly expensive to be honest.
L. G.
Alright for services, plenty of space for walking the dog. Little bit pricey for food excellent array of toilets. Sorry excellent service from the staff. Well done
k. r.
Just as good as the southbound services great place to stop and relax
A. G.
My favourite place on the motorway. I wish I had one of these shops close to home. The food is incredible and always fresh. It can be pricy, but omg the taste of the fruits and veg is just amazing. Great place for vegetarians as well.
H. M.
This is a lovely place for a quick break and there's always space to park as it can be difficult for us truck drivers sometimes at many services along the motorways, the food is good a little expensive but its quality at the end of the day and I like good quality food. The hot chocolate could be a little hotter overall this is a good place I also love the outdoor area especially this time of the year the surroundings are great 👍🏿.
Z. S. K.
Very nice place to stop over, restaurants serve variety of foods. Farm shop support local farms that are able to sell their produce here. Prices are high so be prepared.
A. C.
Never used to be a favourite with all that right on farm shop feel and bunker type construction but the last 9 item breakfast option I had there wasn't too bad. One of the guys on the till was an absolute melt...but that's Gloucester Services life I guess?
S. G.
This services is a pleasure to visit on your travels. It has a a farm shop on site. Makes for a nice break on a long car journey. Good range of food available. Recommended.
J. G.
The place was clean and inviting. Quality and choice of products was excellent. Only criticism would be young staff on coffee area were a little disinterested. And perhaps a little abrupt.
Overall great relaxing area would definitely recommend
Not quite up to Westmoreland, but it has had more years to be what it is. Still my favourite services (Westmoreland)
L. S.
Almost worth the drive up the m5 exceptional services with everything you need and none of the brash brands you don't.
Oh and the ubiquitous overpriced fuel of course. Though in fairness 10p off a litre when you spend in the shop/restaurant
T. H.
Fantastic service area and by far the nicest motorway services I've come across. Food looked amazing and reasonably, well designed with a nice natural feel that actually made you want to stay. None of the clutter of the big names or the feeling you'regetting ripped off. More akin to a good French autoroute facility. Well done, hopefully more will appear like this!
R. D.
What an unreal experience. A high quality farm shop. Excellent service from Caroline and the team at breakfast. Very peaceful and relaxing. Congratulations on a special place to stop.
G. B.
One of the best motorway service stations in the country (there is one southbound too). Has an extensive farm shop including a deli with a large range of products. Pleasant outdoor seating area at rear
F. T.
Having made a point of stopping at the Southbound services on our way down to Cornwall, we had to stop at the Northbound on our way back!
Clean, spacious toilets (cubicles as well as the sink area) that smelt fresh and clean without smelling chemically.
Same as the Southbound services, there is a large farmers market-style shop, with all sorts of products available to buy.
Refreshments are slightly more expensive than other services, but I was happy to pay slightly more given the cleanliness and spacious organisation of the service station.
As well as topping up on caffeine, I needed to top up fuel. I've not had to top up at a motorway services before, but it was laid out better than a standard town centre or supermarket petrol station, so that impressed me.
H.
Friendly staff, clean and dog friendly. There's a dog walk to, they have really thourght about those with 4 legs! Good coffee and locally produced food in both the shop, cafe and restaurant and plenty of choice, the only thing it might be on the slightly more expensive side for a few people at the moment but it's good quality. Lots of parking and room and green space, i wish more motorway stop offs were like this!
P. W.
Excellent services, best I have been to. Great restaurant and choices. Not the usual corporate plastic services. Had a very real local business feel to it.
L. J.
Maybe I'm a bit sad, but I always get quite excited about visiting Gloucester services! Breakfast was great. Landscaping lovely. Always make time for a look round the farm shop too.
L. J.
Fancy pants services on the M5. The construction is great and utilises natural materials in a pleasing way. In addition to food and drink to eat, there are also lots of unique foods to take home. There are clothes and gifts, toys and other things to browse. Prices are considerably more than at normal run of the mill services, but these reflect the quality of the goods.
T. E.
Very good services on M5 a little non traditional as its a more wholesome services with home cooked, farm style services. No of your big fast food joints like KFC, McDonalds or Burger King here. Place is clean and well laid out. Toilets were very clean and well kept. You would do a number 2 here no problem. N.B. this is not a 24 hour services.
S. M.
Who doesn't love this place?! Great toilet facilities, very clean! Love the indi idual baby changing facilities too! All motorway services should take lessons from here.
Staff really polite and helpful. Always worth a stop just to go to the very well stocked shop!
S. M.
Upmarket services in unusually attractive concourse. High quality but expensive farm shop. Didn't fancy the food on sale for refreshment, as it was out on uncovered plates - unhygienic regardless of covid. Person who served me clearly had no interest in customer satisfaction.
l. R.
A nice service station one of the nicest I've been in , a bright airy cafe / restaurant and a quick coffee shop. Lovely coffee pleasant friendly staff beautiful farm shop but completely overpriced , you expect to pay more in a place like this but £3.90 for a small farmhouse loaf 🍞 is ridiculous!!
j. b.
Looks very pretty 😍. Hardly anything for me to eat as a snack 😏. Can't eat raw cheese or peppers or mushrooms. Can eat only white bread. Soy sauce in the spicy beef sandwich. So the only white bread sandwich had cheese 😒
A. D.
Nice services but very expensive reply will be local produce but how can a cake be over £8 extortion price. If it's local should be cheaper no transport costs. All very nice food but they over hike prices because it's nice services
D. T.
Annoying you have only one queue for hot food when you just want drinks. On this occasion a description of a main food item did not match that served and when this was pointed out a refund of that one item, entailing a full refund and further charges for unaffected items, ensude when most cafes would have just refunded the lot as it had a bearing on the whole meal. Even after this was pointed out the item was still advertised as was even though it was missing a key ingredient. Not the quality we expect from this showcase services.
T. B.
Visit on Friday 6/5/22 Farm shop northbound fantastic, great food to eat in or to take away. Fantastic friendly staff and spotless building including the many toilets really great and welcoming experience which is usual for this shop no pressure to eat and go like many places, and the environment is beautiful to see, obviously a lot of effort made here.
What let it down was the disinterested petrol station staff. You can't use the Esso app to pay for fuel. And a card reader can't be brought out which meant a painful trip to the shop to pay. Staff couldn't care less. So I'd avoid the petrol station in future.
k. w.
Only used the toilets but this place looks amazing. Very clean and spacious. Would love to visit again as food smelt and looked 😍 lovely.
l. h.
Although the food is fresh, you pay a price for it and the queries are pretty long, even for parking. Extra star for dog walking area/path, otherwise it would be 3 stars. Tebay is better.
H. S.
You know what, I'll be honest, I just came here to use the bathroom during a long motorway trip, and was just expecting some trashy petrol station that happens to have a toilet, but no, this was a whole freaking shop! It was so stylish and the food was so good, For a service station, this outperformed most takeaways in the UK!!
P. B.
If you're heading Northbound, you're probably used to that Southern "Big price, MUST be good!" mentality. This place DEFINITELY has that. Although to be fair, some of their stuff really does look good, but I'm FAR too Northern to get past my initial "'OW bloomin' much?!?" reaction...
Still, if you need to stop for a toilet, to eat your packed lunch or even have a shower, the facilities are good! If you've recently won the lottery, you could even BUY a snack there. Not sure you'd be able to stretch to a full meal, though!
J. E.
Very busy day but options of outlets available made queues short. Lots of seating available.
Clean toilets and areas.
More dog water bowls would be good as weather so hot
P. H. H.
Great services, top pies and lovely garden.
A. S.
Lovely shopping , spacious, clean and friendly. But, people with motor homes shouldn't take up the caravan spaces, there are plenty of motor home spaces. It made it very difficult for some caravaners.
S. M.
Always wanted to pop here but normally too close to home, but popped in for breakfast rolls on our way North very tasty. Separate caravan parking which is appreciated
E. N.
Nice environment. Comfortable and contemporary decor and setting. However, the food are just very average. Good place to take a rest and have cuppa.
S. f.
Great services, there are lovely seats and benches out the back and a lake and play area. Great canopy out the back to give shade and shelter
Lovely farm shop and food available but a bit pricey.
E. J.
Always stop here on my way to the Midlands lovely porridge and locally used produce
G. G.
This is hands down the most picturesque services. Lovely walks for the dog, a small lake and Forrest. I can't comment on the food but it looks lovely.
S. P.
Always excellent, great food, not a burger king in sight!
Clean loos
Plenty of seating and also outside around lake
Great farm shop
P. H.
An excellent service station and very clean. Very good shop, café, lots of parking, dog walking area. The only services in that area to use as excellent.
S. H.
Great place for unusual and local food. Wish they had food after 8pm but usually nearly sold out and has been under hot lights. Always stop there for good quality food.
L.
Not your average service station stop.
This is a large farm shop basically, which is a good idea in principle, but when you want an ice cold coke on a crazy hot day this place doesn't sell it. It sells its own version of organic, vegan cherry coke which I found to be an assault on my taste buds.
There is a wide variety of 'home cooked' food and some very unhappy looking people serving it. Breakfast food available and lots of sweet treats.
There was 1 smoothie machine working that most of the staff were queuing for.
My husband thought he picked up a ginger beer, but this turned out to be alcohol free ginger cider which repeated on him for hours.
G. U.
Great dog walk area and the food was great a visit to the farm 🚜 shop a must
A. R.
Best services ever! Local produce and delicious coffee. The family bathrooms are a bonus and always immaculate.
M. M.
One of the best services in the UK. Not quite as good as their other site, Tebay on the M6, but still in the same league. So good, I make a point of stopping there even if I don't strictly need to.
J. S.
Excellent Services with an excellent Farm Shop and Cafe. Liked the outside seating area at back, with a walk path to walk your dog on a break on a long car journey.
J. L.
This service station is one of my favourites. They have multiple options for food and plenty tables to sit down to enjoy your meals. You can choose from quick snacks to full fresh cooked meals. Nice fish and chips by the way.
The bakery sells nice artisan bread.
You can buy souvenirs, clothes, magazines, wine, drinks, teas, arc from the store.
The children area has a nice playground and baby food station.
Toilets very clean. There are showers and changing rooms also.
Excellent hot chocolate.
Charging points for electrical cars.
One star less on the rating, because ice cream parlour is not always open. Sorry about that.
G. W.
Different to all services. It's a farm shop selling classy cafeteria hot food. The sausage rolls are a serious rip off price starting at £2.99, but I buy one every visit as they are to die for. The black pudding is delicious too. No other motorway services offer a deli, a butchery and freshly baked goods. Like a high class independent food market, with fine wines and beers. Nearly all edibles and drinkables are sourced locally and there are crafty gifts too. The toilets, which lets face it are why we stop on a journey, are all touch free. Flush is done by a wave of the hand, as is soap dispensing and hot water and the hand dryers. Services like no other with no fast food or chains in sight. A class above.
Update 11/09/22. They sell three types of sausage rolls. The wild boar is great, but not a favourite. The Sheriff, however, is really excellent. But the packaging gives insufficient information. Yes , it tells you it contains chilli, but it doesn't warn you that after eating one you need to wash your hands before scratching an itchy eye. I might sue them. Ouch!
H. F.
It's rare that you find anything good in a motorway services, but the farm shop is good. I particularly recommend the butcher, very helpful and the traditional Gloucester Oldspot sausages, mmmm.
T. G. Y. A.
Uniquely beautiful services with a selection of food and drink that looks and smells gorgeous, however dramatically overpriced. £3.50 for a single Danish and £4.50 for a coffee out of a machine is insane. Dread to think what an actual meal costs, and daren't find out! This ridiculous overpricing is the sole reason I take a star off. It really is a lovely service station aside from that.
Disabled facilities are utterly fantastic. Massive changing table suitable for anything from a baby to a disabled adult, showers, even a mechanical hoist with a 200KG weight limit. Perhaps the money invested here is why you need to take out a second mortgage for food and drink!
K. S.
Super clean and looks immaculate. It's a farm shop themed with beautiful wooden beams, doesn't look like a service station at all. The prices are obviously a bit steep but that's expected. One of the best service stations I have ever been too. Great play facilities for children and a small pond area outside too. Love it.
A. W.
Great services with a farm shop that sells the best sausage rolls I have ever had. Always worth a visit even if you dont need the loo
N. H.
Brilliant. We always stop here, southbound and northbound, great products,a little on the expensive side ,but excellent quality.Anutie Caroline's pickled onions are a must for us,if you enjoy your pickled onions with a bite the chillies in them give you that .Also lovely meat products are available, take a cool box
G. B.
Quality service station. With a big restaurant and shop. Not your normal service station very high end. Food prices do reflect the quality.
V. I. M.
A service station that worth planning to stopping in to rest relax and shop especially for local produced
v. f.
Great services to stop at. Plenty of choice of food (no chains) and lovely relaxing setting especially by the pond. Nice farm shop too though expensive
S. S.
This is a great privately owned service station so they have a farm shop where you can get something different I like their homemade cakes, there is a cheese counter with strange flavour cheeses I bought some fig cheese it was delicious. There is a load of different alcohol to choose from to take home of course my favorite is the toffee vodka. There is also a restaurant on site which serves main meals to sandwiches and coffee and tea etc, you can eat inside or outside where there us a pond and children's play area.
D. e.
An eco motorway services, grass roof, timber building etc. food is of an excellent quality. Charging stations for Ev’s. Easily the best services on the motorway network
P. G.
Very nice compared with a lot of motorway services.
Good food and help yourself areas.
They have created a farmer's market feel to the experience.
Facilities are good.
C. D.
Disappointing, flies on pastries and cakes not covered. Arrived at 6.30 looking forward to a big breakfast only to find restaurant closed (didn't open until 7). Long queue for coffee, only two serving.
.
J. P.
Had lunch there on our way home and was disappointed, soggy chips and gristley meat pie. First time we've stopped off there, we usually only call at the southbound one, that's always been lovely.
C. B.
Very expencive aimed at organic produce but tge great thing is my fella had a sleep. After long journey abd there is a kids climbing frame slide in shape if behive been stoping off here meny years my son has disabilitys i forgot my power bank. And purce i toilets and it was handed in i was so lucky to get it back everything in
M. R.
What a great place. If Carlsberg did service stations... Sympathically designed to blend in with it's surroundings, light-and-airy inside and with a lovely outside area with a pond and hay bales.
R.
Great, best services on the motorway network as far as I'm concerned. Roomy, lovely food, clean toilets no slot machines.
M. S.
Very busy but well worth the visit. Beware of locals shopping it fills the place up. Lol. The sausage roll cabin just by entrance are to die for.
G. O.
Not the usual motorway services.
Forget the same old greasy, loud, vulgar services; this is how it should be done.
Designed to blend in with the local countryside, the entire complex is made with stone and natural wood everywhere. Restful areas are scattered about and there's a path that curves around the site with views across the surrounding landscape.
Inside, the helpful staff serve up everything from hot meals (try the chips) to seriously fancy cakes. The high ceilings and views outside to the mini lake create a calming and restful atmosphere. The kids play area is tucked away so as not to disturb other diners.
The shop is packed with top quality goods from wooden toys to craft beers to books and there's a wide selection of cheeses and meats produced locally.
The downside is that 'quality costs'. An adult fish & chips (big & crispy), a child's portion of the same and a couple of canned drinks came in at £14.95.
I can't afford to eat here often but for the occasional treat it's perfect.
r. b.
I like Gloucester Services, however on this occasion our visit was ruined by inconsiderate motorhome drivers, for some reason most of the caravan spaces were taken up by them, even though majority of the motorhome spaces provided were vacant. We had to leave, without a break, even after driving around numerous times trying to find a space. Please just think for a second before you just pull onto a bay, a bit of consideration goes a very long way.
g. c. -.
A much nicer experience than your standard service station. We had lunch outside by the lake, clean and tidy throughout.
T. W.
Unique farm shop and kitchen, immaculately clean on both northbound and southbound carriageways. So nice to see no junk food at a services and local produce sourced from 130 local suppliers within a 30 mile radius of the services and not excessively priced for the quality on offer. Separately the fuel stations are Esso and rip off fuel prices to match.
J. P.
Excellent. Plenty of parking, nice dog walk area and fresh food.
Best services I've visited.
J. B.
Why can't all service stations be so enjoyable as this one to take a break on a long trip? The services are both clean and bright. The toilets are excellent. The food is well presented and taste great with many dishes using locally sourced produce. Then there is a farm shop and although the items are expensive the quality of everything on offer is fabulous. As with all services don't fill up here as the petrol is ridiculously expensive.
C. T.
With its lawn roof this place is easy to miss. But it is much better than standard service stations. But don't get petrol here.
Decor is mostly wood and well designed. Delicious smoothies. Food looked much better than I expected. Shop had wide range of quality products.
K. T.
Here is the answer to what we must demand from highway services.
Role and local cheese from Gloucestershire 350. Not any more easy to do food. If you have money you are on standard if not so much you can be inventive. This is thebgold standard for what UK requires on Service station. Booths, delies cooking food. And very pleasing staff of glorious not forlorn England.
A. B.
Great place to stop at farm shop here to. There's a place to stretch your legs after that long journey. Also Ecotricity charging station here both working well during my visit.
C. H.
Tried to grab a sandwich quickly, had to qué with all the people ordering and discussing hot food, need to separate these services to be more efficient especially with the inflated prices.
A. B.
Great place! Good food store as well as arrive got and cold meals.
D. E.
When travelling to Devon,we always stop here it's always very clean and tidy, brilliant if you have dogs with you, keep up the great work you all do,and thanks
N. S.
Disabled aces loos are out of this world and at the forefront of disabilities thank you, however food and drink prices are just out of this world and a coffee from a machine costing £4:50 is ridiculously high prices and cakes breads etc reaching £5 marked only 3 stars because of the silly high prices
D. K. (.
This is not your usual motorway service area, this and the South Bound side are a little different than you normally get when stopping for a rest and top up, we've been on a number of occasions and always enjoyed the time spent here, there's ample parking spaces for all and those with mobility issues can park right at the front, if you need to use a wheelchair access is excellent, there are also plenty of disabled facilities as well as parent and child and showers, this place seems to have thought of everything.
My reason for the 3* review, the food, on this occasion it was shocking, boring choices and what I did have was incredibly dry, tasteless and had I not been hungry inedible, probably been left too long under the heat lamps, rather expensive too, oh well you learn by your mistakes it's never been like this before. Will I go again? Probably yes, will I enjoy the stay? Probably yes, will I eat? Can't answer that one I'll have to look at it first.
K. W.
Very popular. A long queue for a meal. Better get sandwiches. Meanwhile they need more staff to cope with demand.
I. “. K.
This is a BREATHTAKING gem that is rare to find! Stunning motorway services that look nothing like motorway services. And for good reason. It used to be a farmland owned by a family and guess what, still is! The family transformed their farm into this rare project that has 0 advertisement! No logos, no ads, no billboards. It's almost unreal, just green trees, grass, wood and stone. They stayed true to their roots in designing this building and area around it. Beautiful untouched nature. And inside? Stunning design, stunning food with most (if not all) organic ingredients, including fresh meat (they don't freeze anything!). Locally sourced produce, meat, vegetables, fruit, everything. There is even the Farmshop inside the building which again exceeds all expectations and needs. This is exactly what ALL the motorway services in UK and in the world should strive to become. Close to nature, no psychological warfare in the form of advertisement, family atmosphere, top tier homemade food, bakery, cookies and cakes. THANK YOU, for building this and managing this wonderful project in such a human and traditional way. We love it!
A. J.
We called very late at night on our way from the ferry. Friendly staff, barista coffee and cake. Just what we needed on what was a long, dark, rainy drive home.
G. C.
Good place to stop on M5, clean with all needed services. Good separation of cars and motor homes/caravans with dedicated spaces for the latter. Although caravans also filled coaches park & HGV park so more spaces needed. Better than average motorway services.
H. 6.
Relatively new services, good parking, main area really nice & clean, but food & drink prices are a joke, way too expensive !
L. A.
Not your usual motorway services! I can see the appeal of this approach - no chain store coffee shops or fast food outlets in sight, which is refreshing, but when I visited I have to say I was less than impressed with the cleanliness of the place especially the toilets. Fast kitchen and more leisurely paced food options, hot and cold but pricey. Farm shop is a delight to look around with local suppliers, but again very pricey - £3.20 for one chocolate teacake!
S. L.
Really like this services, it's very unique. With a homemade baker and a deli, instead of lots of fast food shops which most services have. The whole thing is sort of inside a hill (Hobbit style?), which is really cool too. The garden is also stunning, and there is a walkway round the side with a great view of the countryside. We found this just by chance but really enjoyed our stop here.
M. J.
Very nice services. Always make a point of visiting. Like most services, stuff isn’t cheap but here it’s because it’s really good quality, farm food or homemade food instead of inflated prices for trash.
The restaurant is nice, the takeaway section is good and the farm shop is worth a visit too for taking something back home or to where you’re going.
Siting outside by the pond is nice in summer and there’s a cute kids play area.
A. H.
Excellent selection of food at reasonable prices. Well kept facilities plenty of parking.
G. S.
The best services in the UK in my opinion. Fantastic ecologically friendly building, do a Google search, it's quite interesting! Inside is a wide variety of food and drink to either have in or purchase from the farm shop, which is large, spacious and full of cool items. It has free WiFi which is awesome and yeah... If you need to pee you could do far worse! Oh yeah, almost forgot, the searing area out the back features a waterfall, large pond and eco friendly play area for kids!
R. B.
Wow. Amazing service area built into the land, with a meadow on the roof - seriously. Fabulous shop inside with a huge variety of local produce and interesting stuff. Nice restaurant. Classy toilets. Electric car charging station. All service areas should be like this!
H. B.
Very good food, not cheap though.
Services were clean and tidy.
A. B.
Loved it. I like the way how it blends into the countryside and that the lights inside and out are designed to not shine over the countryside, only the area needed. Everything is eco-friendly and possibly my favourite service around.
The food is lovely, there is one buy & go store, two breakfast bars (for a full breakfast) and one large store where you can buy organic ingredients. There is a kids play area inside and outside. The toilets are well designed and the best I've seen!
S. F.
Not a fan of motorway services but this is an exception. Excellent parking for caravans and really good food and facilities.
J. B.
Lovely place, excellent staff, spotlessly clean, excellent dog walking facilities, Down side is it's extremely expensive.
A. S.
As service stations go this one is pretty damn good but you might need to take out a second mortgage prior to arrival.
D. C.
It's alright here and run by people who care for environment.
T. K.
Hopefully the future of service stations! Can't believe that I'm reviewing a service station or that I now have a favorite one! 😂
Gorgeous but understated from the outside, light, airy, peaceful, pretty and well run!
Decent big breakfast and coffee for £10. Worth a small detour if you're on the road, very glad that I stumbled across it 😊
M. Z. A.
🤩 love it! You feel it immediately as soon as you pull-in in the services, this is different!!
As I drive-in in the south bound services...I feel my heart 💔 sinking as I realise I am going in the wrong direction: It’s on the other side, dho!!
It’s the North-bound service station
Always worth a stop; or even a ‘shop & walk’ special trip. The people make feel the community behind it it so unique
N. R.
This is an outstanding services and so refreshing to witness among a sea of chain run places. You will not find the usual Costa coffee, Burger King, Waitrose and other well known stores here but you will find an awesome farm shop selling all kinds of great produce from fruit and veg to chocolate as well as breads and a lovely butchers. The food hall is similarly very good and serves good hot and cold food including a diverse healthy options section. There is outdoor seating overlooking a pond making the whole establishment a very relaxing place. If on the the M5 (north or south bound) then these services are without a doubt the ones to stop at.
S. Y.
Very busy slow service people with food waiting a long time to be able to pay making the meals cooler. Food and drink expensive
A. C.
Clean tidy and spacious
Nice farm shop inside with a range of products from gins and wines to steaks and cakes! Nice layout of produce.
Cafe/restaurant in there. Quick kitchen (takeaway) too.
Toilets are clean and tidy.
Plenty of parking. Wheelchair accessible and pushchair accessible.
Nice area to walk your dog too .
W. S.
Well laid our clear signage. Clean toilets. Good choice food at the market.
S. H.
Totally different to the usual motorway services. No Mcdonalds, Burger King, Costa etc. Great food, loads of parking & a farm/gift shop. Quite relaxing.
I gave this 5 when we visited 3 years ago. On our visit today I can only award 3 stars. The farm shop is still great although overpriced but the food was a bit of a disappointment. Fish, chips & peas (more expensive than Rick Stein's) were let down by undercooked chips and tasteless peas. The choice of food also seemed to have deteriorated. Still plenty of parking and toilets very clean.
R. H.
By far my favourite service station. They have so many amazing things at the Gloucester Services Farm Shop and all of the produce is so fresh and tasty. My favourite thing at the Farm Shop is definitely their brownies - especially the Cookie Dough Brownie! Their cafe is lovely and they do great breakfast baps - again all the food is really fresh! I would 100% visiting this service station if you’re travelling that way. It’s not like other service stations where the have other chains (no franchises or fast food). They were the first family run motorway services on the UK roads. There is the Farmshop, a Butchery featuring meat reared from their own farms and a Kitchen which serves homemade dishes produced daily using local ingredients.
L. L.
Great place to stop off, with lovely clean facilities and great produce, but very expensive, hence only 4 stars
R. F.
Probably the smartest motorway services in the UK, with attractive seating area and good, fast counter service. The farm shop has all sorts of food temptations, including artisanal fresh bread. The fuel cost was also more competitive than other motorway filling stations, as well as smart and well laid out. So we make a point of stopping here for a break when we travel between Manchester and Plymouth, on our trips to Brittany. Highly recommended.
C. B.
Visited Southbound services last week and it was a great stop so decided to rest here on our way back home. We sat outside in one of these little booths to have our coffee and it was quite pleasant. Toilets were very clean too.
M. W.
Stopped at the southbound so had to try the northbound too, which is rather freakishly a mirror image inside the building. Clean and new feeling, with large farm shop, quick bite cafe and restaurant, plus paths and greenery to stretch the legs and let the dogs have a stretch too (with bins provided)
P. G.
Interesting and different, a completely different service station offering. Good food sensible prices
A. L.
I stop here every time I'm in this part of the country. Farm shop is incredible, food is delicious. The deli food and deserts are especially good not just the restaurant area.
Avoid lunchtime. The queues are LONG and things can get slow. Had to wait 25mins in a queue for a coffee.
C. E.
Everything you need is there. From a coffee to a T-bone steak. Dog walking area is very well maintained, lot of different plants and trees.
You can have a coffee next to a water pond, or picnic.
Very friendly staff, all of them very polite.
J. G.
Probably one of the best service stations anywhere. Beautiful surroundings where you can sit outside, great range of cafe food and also farm shop. You don't need to be travelling to come here, if you're near enough just go for lunch!
S. F.
Farm shop services.... what's not to like?! Love the fact that there are no chain stores on this site.
E. C.
Wonderful quality food produce in the farm shop. Love the black pudding. So clean and tidy. Lovely drinks and lovely to sit by the lake.
H.
Came up from Plymouth and was a great stop. The breakfast was good and staff were pleasant. Nice to walk around the farm shop. Great little outdoor area for dogs.
S.
Probably the poshest services I have ever stopped at! Had freshly baked bread on a stall as you walked in and a lovely farm shop that sold allsorts. Toilets nice and clean and plenty of parking
D. B.
I always think that these services are the best in the country. Very clean and well stocked. We did find out that they are not open 24hrs but did not see any signage stating this (might have missed it).
C. W.
Its not your typical services. It's got a lovely cafe and a farm shop with a variety of fresh foods. There also plenty of family toilets which are a great idea when you have toddlers / young children.
A. &. L. S.
Our favourite services in the UK. The farm shop is great. Really nice site, well thought out and a credit to the designers. Plenty of parking for motorhomes and caravans.
L.
Always a good choice of food, cakes and treats. A great place to stop on the M5 but it is more expensive than other services.
M. C.
A truly beautiful place to stop. We went 20 mins out of our way to drop in. I seriously hope that this is the future of motorway service stations.
C. D.
Loved this place you would not think it was a service station
L. h.
If you plan on stopping at a motorway services make it this one , good food and farm shop 👍
D. B.
Great food and a great farm shop - you really forget your on the motorway!
C. T.
Lovely hidden gem, as far as service stations go this is at the top.. if it were a bit cheaper the 5th star would be lit.. 👌🤌
A. M.
I would be amazed if you can beat this service station as a stop off. Great food, fantastic cakes and a really lovely farm shop. Can thoroughly recommend.
I. W.
The best motorway services I've ever been to.
Sarah, Michelle Steve, Kayla and their colleagues were just incredible too.
I'm moving to live there 🤣
L.
Arrived here at around 7pm. It had been raining all day and was very busy and congested on the roads.
Hot food queue was almost out the door and was moving very slowly. Staff seemed flustered, most were still friendly.
The seating area was a bit dirty, the table and floors needed cleaning. The food was nice as usual though.
Toilets were okay, the floor was very wet.
Still had a decent selection of brownies and cakes in the farmshop which were still fresh.
Overall it was an okay experience. Much better than the "normal" services would be at that time of day.
Z. P.
Great for short break. Great farm food. Very good taste dinner at restaurant and fantastic rear garden. Great customer service as well. Highly recomended.
S. P.
My favourite services. Great quality farm foods to buy.
A great place to rest with a fabulous quality ☕ coffee.
M. S.
Beautiful place, exceptionally different than any other service station, a much more pleasant experience. Independently owned and run, there are no chain stores or mainstream products on sale here. It is like a very fancy farmshop, but unfortunately very very expensive. Maybe thier overheads are very high and this reflects the price, but the prices can be somewhat of a turn off... Also, there is very little that doesn't contain dairy or gluten, so not good for those with those intolerances... A pleasent experience to be there though, definitely my preferred service station experience, but wish they did more things I can eat...
P. F.
Great local food in tranquil surroundings. Main serving area Great. The quick kitchen bit was a little chaotic with patchy service during my visit.
C. L.
I route my journeys when ever I can to stop for a meal here, food is fantastic. Take a cool bag with you, fresh produce in shop is local and very good quality. Clean toilets. Its like a luxury version of a motorway service station.
J. H.
Great breakfast stop! Avocado and halloumi roll for breakfast, coffee was just delightful and the farm shop had such great local produce too ! Toilets were immaculate
K. W.
Worth a stop if you're heading down the M5 or in the nearby area. Excellent selection of hot and cold foods, lots of comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor and indoor play areas for the kids to stretch their legs.
a. j.
Lovely services. Clean with fantastic food and drink options. Pleasant staff. The shop is fantastic with gifts and really great food options.
s. p.
The BEST services in the uk fantastic facilities for families, dogs, coaches & caravaners there is plenty of parking, with dedicated caravan areas which is lacking on most services in the UK. Lovely outdoor seating with waterfall & childrens play area, dog walking & the farm shop with locally produced food gifts & even a butchers was Fantastic, with lovely friendly staff. I was so impressed that i had to leave a review which i never do, this should be copied accross the UK on all service stations.
J. H.
Just too expensive and busy.. yes the produce is local and all that jazz but £4 for a bloomer loaf of bread is just way over the top! And £7 for tea and coffee.. try the next stop!
L. W.
We were so impressed on the way down south we also made sure we stopped northbound too. Clean and relaxed. Great resting spot.
A. R.
Probably the poshest service station on the Motorway. Farm shop sells all manner of unusual food and drink, very nice cafe, and everything else you would expect ar a service station.
G. B.
In essence, there is little difference from other service areas except it is 'swathed in a cloak of green' in order to sell "farm produce" at high prices. Better environment than many though, both inside and out.
S. H. M.
The nicest service station I've ever been to! Worth a stop in its own right. I ended up spending over an hour here, browsing the shop and walking around the grounds behind the service station.
H.
Don’t think I’ve ever been compelled to write a review for a service station but here goes!
Both north bound and southbound these service stations just topped the best in the uk by far! Clean toilets plenty of parking and amazing choice of food. Cakes, hot food and coffee... yeah in that order too. You could probably get away with taking your family here for a classy Sunday roast! Can’t wait to drive south again and save this beauty for the pit stop!
D. K.
Excellent, clean and pleasant motorway services with a very environmentally friendly note and lots of local produce on offer. Highly recommended!
N. R.
I think that the concept of a nice service station different from others as no machines or chains and local produce is good. However, I thing the cooked meals are over priced.
M. G.
It's a lovely place to stop but shockingly dear!
Everything I wanted was so expensive. Such a tourist trap. A real shame as looks so nice.
H. L.
Good place to stop. Lovely landscaping and different type of service station
S. K.
The produce is good, but only half the facilities seem to be open whenever I pass through. Rating areas could be kept cleaner.
P. C.
This is probably one of my favourite motorway services. It’s clean, often quieter than you’d expect and it serves a lovely cuppa.
I. H.
One of the best Motorway services. It is very clean and spacious. There is a dog walking area too.
k. n.
A little bit pricey but still a nice place to stop
N. U.
Northbound today on my return journey , would have kept driving but I was getting noise from the passenger seat so had to pull in. Car park very busy. Went in and got ripped off for £4 for a hot sausage roll and £3 for a small latte to go . Shameful .
A. G.
Wide variety of gluten and dairy free food, helpful, friendly, approachable staff and what I bought benefits the community as well, that's a big bonus.
J. C.
Excellent services, best in the country by far. The presentation of products fabulous ! Well done, toilets spotless !
J. H.
Well what can I say? If you find my review of the southbound services, it's pretty much the same....in fact identical. Apart from you're facing the other way.😂😂
A. T.
Great place to stop if you if you have dogs walk to the camper van area and you will see a walk all the way back and come out by the kitchens and most of it is under shade.
P. K. M.
WHAT CAN I SAY IF YOU DON'T STOP HERE YOU'VE MISSED A JEM
5 STAR STAFF SERVICE FOOD TOILETS PARKING AND SHOPS
OUTSIDE SEATING IS GREAT BUT COULD DO WITH MORE AS THERE'S USUALY A QUE FOR THE HUTS
ITS SISTER AREA AT TEBAY M6 IS JUST AS GOOD
PROPPER OLD FASHIONED CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH A REAL SMILE NOT A FALSE ONE
AND WHEN THESE STAFF SAY "HAVE A SAFE JOURNEY" IT'S MEANT AND NOT OFF A SCRIPT
M. R.
How services should done. Excellent facilities, lovely food and coffee.
No cheap chain restaurants here.
M.
Actually for a motorway service station, it's a great place. Plenty of space to move about. Good service from all the staff members I dealt with.
M. C.
Fantastic services run by great local staff. Great food in lovely surroundings and fantastic shops offering local produce 👌 😀
G. T.
My favourite motorway services I've visited, on the expensive side, but the quality of the produce more than makes up for it. Highly recommended stop up or down the M5
I. I.
People rave about this service station but honestly who needs to buy a non GMO organicaloy grown bell pepper after driving 200 miles?
No, I need a wholy inorganic energy drink and some screenwash. That kinda thing isn't available. The inside is pretty crowded compared to most service stations. Just don't expect to walk out with a meal within 180 seconds.
The place is very pretty and well stocked kept reasonably clean and has some nice hippy products so if you like that stuff go check it out.
M. M.
A great spot for a break! Love this project. The doggy walk was a brilliant idea guys! ☺️
M. S.
This service station definitely earned its rating as the best in the UK. The farm shop is big and stocked full of an incredible variety of locally sourced products. There was so much to choose from. You'll definitely find something you like, including plenty of gluten free things which pleased me. I didn't eat at the restaurant, but everything looked freshly prepared rather than the pre-packaged stuff you get at most services. The building itself was a tasteful design that blends in with the countryside and there's a beautiful lake with small stream/waterfall. I will be skipping nearby service stations in the future. This is the one to stop at.
K. G.
Always a joy to stop here, clean, always busy, but food hall has lots of locally made food
S. P.
The food here is probably the best you’ll get on the motorway network. They source food from local farmers and the produce they sell in the shops is top quality, also. It’s a beautifully designed building as well, making it a much airier place to break.
M.
Stopped by on my way back up north. The best services I've been to. Quirky and different
M. C.
Great food, good farm shop options. A privately owned services which feels very different from the usual rubbish.
m. D.
Not your bog standard service station, rather posh, clean toilets, lovely food on offer, Charles and camila opened this service station 👑👑
B. M.
Called yesterday, used toilets very clean. Then used the cafeteria food excellent and drinks very nice will be calling again.
J. W.
Superb! Great food and coffee. Good parking, clean and modern toilet facilities.
S. H.
Great food and a refreshing change form the usual fast food options and pace of other services.
C. P.
Always a great stop for breakfast only docking a star this time as the fired egg and bacon were overdone to my taste
W. W.
As with all motorway services it was expensive, however they have a fantastic range of products from the local area and a beautiful waterfall out back along with a kids play area.
B. P.
Awesome services - the best around. It's disguised into the hills so doesn't ruin the surrounding countryside. There is a farm shop and none of the usual chain stores. If you want a McDonald's, this isn't for you!
T. T.
Beautiful location, you'd never gues you are in a service station.
Home made food, great choice, definitely worth a look 😋
p. b.
Love this service station stop here all the time. Local products and produce no big chains and it's always clean.
A. C. (.
Very good parking areas for larger vehicles, important as we were in a motorhome. Did not use any other facilities.
J. K.
Great services, designed differently to look away from all the cars towards the spectacular landscape. Great dog walking facilities.
M. W.
Just superb - food is outstanding, amazing range of produce in shop, wish all services were like this!
S. J.
Quite possibly the best services I have been to. Wonderfully set out. Everything has been thought of.
T. S.
Looks better than it is. Eclairs stale.
J. O. A.
Another good place for a break from motorway driving. Food and drink, toilets and a service station for petrol.
N. j.
The food in here is to a high standard farm cooking a the staff are very acomadateing in all a good service station
P. P.
Expensive, upmarket service station but always clean, great farm shop and good coffee with ridiculous sausage rolls 😁 (pic). I tend to break here as it's half way between Cornwall and the North and it prevents me from just calling in at the nearest fast food station.
K. G.
Pleasant motorway service station. Good range of local products. Well presented, clean and tidy.
J. D.
A will always stop here when travelling back home . Best of the services even just for a cup of chips and tea
C. M.
We tow a caravan and whilst the area reserved us is small, but it is good, it is not helped by cars/vans parking in this area. A Mercedes came in whilst we were there, using the exit as the entrance to walk their dog. It is a good stop if controlled better.
E. B.
Really pretty service station, my little one loved eating his dinner by the pond and watching the dragon flies
L.
Great stopping place. Good choice of food for everyone
m. f.
Excellent, if a little pricey. Then again aren't all motorway service stations pricey? Beautiful displays of fresh fruit, veg and bread. Lots of lesser well known brands of food. Clothing and gifts too. And petrol. All of this and you can't even see it from the road!
D. S.
This service station set the standard for all others. In fact all service stations should be set the way this one is. The places beautifully set with great rounds to walk around with your dog. The food, farm shop, layout and staff are 2nd to none.
J. &. L. K.
Beautiful and glorious choices of food. Just one criticism being the coffee to go. Not as great as I would have expected given the location.
M. B.
This is the best service station in the UK! Describing it as a service station doesn’t do it justice. It’s a farm shop, deli, coffee shop and specialist grocer that just happens to be at the side of the motorway!! Amazing dietary options, friendly staff and really good facilities. The petrol station and smaller store is open 24 hours (main services closes at 10pm - but that’s not obvious until you reach the door) and has a smaller but still great range of food and drinks. Don’t drive past!!!
J. C.
Not seen anything like this before at a service station. It’s nothing like a regular services, more like a posh restaurant! Also has a farm shop which is rather pricey but still couldn’t resist buying a few things. Was extremely hustly bustly when we went people kept banging into me from all directions but the food was lovely.
I. D.
Always love stopping by! This trip was especially good. On our way to a funeral and discovered my dress still had the security tag on it (promise I didn’t steal it) took it to the shop and explained the situation and we were treated with care and humour by a colleague called Chris. Chris removed the tag and wished us well. Friendly, helpful and absolutely saved the day. Thanks so much, Chris!
m. j.
Absolute gem and lots of quality goods on offer. Some were very pricey but highly recommended fir a stopover
R. P.
Similar to Tebay. Good food, tidy. Not really like a services - too nice.
E. M.
Great dig walking facilities. Lovely farm shop and produce. Would have liked to see recycling facilities
D. A.
Fantastic place, lots of local produce on offer, and great to look at all the sustainability elements. Good electric vehicle charging options too
r.
A new service station that looks like its in a cave. Smaller than some. Has loads of organic and overpriced stuff for sale as well as what you need at a motorway rest area.
P. L.
Sisterservice station to Teebay. These two are the best services in England. Local farmshop (bery expensive) BUT the quality is excellent.
K. M.
The best services in the country. Easy access and egress for all types of vehicles.
Z. A.
Food here is AMAZING whether its from the hot food counter or the Patisserie/meat counter in the Farm Shop. Its always fun to pop into the services when passing as I'm local to Gloucester its nice to have a services after so many years without!
S. S.
Well worth a visit! The building itself is beautiful and the produce and food are amazing! Not like other services where it's all fast-food chains, all produce here is from local sources.
R. E.
Very nice services. Excellent home cooked food from local producers. As far as motorway services go it is definitely one of the best I've visited.
G. M.
Thiiiiiiiiis is how a service station should be done!!!!!!
And £1 to feed the kids with propa grub!
This Yorkie says it's Reyt Good.
K. D.
Stopped here because my late mum lived it. She came here like I would go to the shops. I was not disappointed. Great to see something different, local produce. I had some mini sausages with honey mustard sauce. So much nicer than a cold sandwich or over priced burger.
I. M.
Excellent, one of a kind service station. Find plenty of fresh produce and excellent kid's facilities.
D. J.
Lovely and clean well prepared food very polite staff...
M.
I love both sides of these services, very clean and have great produce
P. S.
Excellent parking facility for motorhomes and a lovely farm shop full of lovely goodies and good food options.
P. E.
Clean and tidy. Good facilities, several outlets. A good service station.
T. G.
Great service station with good food options. Why aren't there more than Gloucester and Tebay?
C. M.
The best service station on the M5. If you have a dog with you it has excellent walking facilities. The toilets are very clean.
M. C.
Great place to stop. Good food shop, cafe and quick takeaway. Plenty of parking but few places with shade. Good dog walking areas.
R. B.
As motorway services go this has to be one of the VERY BEST!
Their breakfast also includes Haggis, which was fantastic.
Lovely building with very good parking.
Big shopping area with super verity of food and gifts - but most things are expensive (like £3 for a chocolate brownie!)
O. C.
Great food and farm shop. Best services in the country.
C. W.
Great services. Plenty of parking. Lovely cafe/eating area.. outside tables front and back. Stylish place, nice toilets. Has a great dog walk from front car park around to the back of the cafe with plenty of bins.
Definitely put stop here if you need to stretch yours or your pooches legs.
J. A.
It's clean and great for a toilet stop but everything is hugely expensive both in the shop and food outlets.
K. C.
Good quality food however you do pay a premium for it.
W. F. L.
Lovely rest stop. Different from the usual motorway rest stops.
G.
Oh my goodness why aren't all service stations like this!? Absolutely amazing, I was totally taken aback by this place. It's worth driving to Gloucester just to visit here!
B. W.
Best service station I have ever been to. Great food and environment
A. B.
Probably my most favourite stop on the M5. Food and choice is superb. The raspberry and Rose teacakes are divine
S. G.
Usually a delightful place to stop unfortunately the state of the ladies toilets was awful. I had to try about six cubicles before I found one tolerably clean although far from sparkling.
I’m not sure if the toilets had not been cleaned yet as it was a Sunday morning about 10.50 (30/01/22) however I would expect cleaning to be an ongoing process particularly in light of the ongoing pandemic.
The rest of the services were a delight as usual.
V. B.
Really lovely place to stop off for a cuppa and a break from travelling
D. B. H.
If it is possible to love a service station, I love this one. So dog friendly, full of local produce and great food. All others could learn a lot from here!
R. B.
Excellent food clean facilities with excellent dog walking area.
L. P.
Nice, well-organised motorway services with an upmarket food hall.
A. T.
Absolutely love this place, visit it every time were heading home from Cornwall
R. F.
Same review as I gave the southbound.. the coffee is just out of an automatic machine and tastes like Nescafé otherwise it'd be a good place to stop.
K. K.
Lovely spot, outside seating and a lake, my daughter liked the family amenities as they were spacious and clean, very family friendly, disabled toilet was huge with a shower also very clean. Plus it has a farm shop
A. H.
All service stations should be like this, discretely built into the landscape so it blends in perfectly, modern and nicely built using quality sustainable materials and a foodies delight awaits inside.
J. R.
The facilities are great, but with only 2 car charging stations it severely lacks the infrastructure needed
C. H.
Love this service station. They all should be like this, fresh home cooked food, farm shop & very clean. Outside tables & a decent dog walking area.
N. S.
One of the best services, lve been too, in. 35 years of driving HGVs
a. H.
Have already done the review under Michael Wood Services on Facebook I didnt know it had changed it's name! I simply cannot remember all these frequent name changes of every place!
M. W.
If you go in there you will want breakfast it is so lovley great place to stop.
N. C.
Unlike any other services, great farm shop and better than average meals from local produce.
C. C.
Brilliant services. Not your normal. Lovely fresh food. Little pricer than normal service stations. But worth it. And they have a lovely childs play area inside which is a bonus
C. L.
Over priced for what it is, £20 for 2 coffees and 2 toasties that were not properly toasted. Good place to walk a dog on long journeys though
M.
Better than your boring KFC or McDonalds rubbish, nice place to rest on a long journey
S. M.
What a refreshing change to go to a lovely "green" motorway services. With great fresh food on sale
A.
Lovely. Clean. Bright. Pleasant food but horribly expensive
J. M.
Small services but clean. Farm shop amazing, cafe looked really nice and toilets extremely clean.
S. C.
A wonderful place to stop - so pleased they've finally built the southbound one. Tasty food, filling, and not badly priced either! Tons of wonderful things to eat, and all of it freshly made!
N. H.
An amazing selection of excellent quality foods and items. Clean facilities. Xx
J. E.
It’s such a beautiful and serene place. Very natural structure made with woods. You’ll fine cakes, bread, books, magazines, fruits and veggies and so much more there. It’s a great place to shop.
A. M.
Super expensive for small portions. Super nice buildings though and the fudge in the shop is incredible!
M. H.
The coffee and chocolate croissant that I had were good, but they were in my view overpriced. However for a motorway services the place was very good and the toilets were reasonably clean
K. T.
Great services; lots of space, loads of toilets so no queues and lots of play zones for children.
C. K.
Lovely services. The ideals behind it are great and the farm shop was delightful.
M. R.
Now a business tradition when we are traveling out of Devon the only place to stop for breakfast. Always a great selection of food, staff generally always happy to help there isn't a better way to start the day!
I. F.
A delight to visit. Good food and a lovely break
J. C.
Such nice services and great food..excellent dog walk. Stopped on the way down south and made a point of stopping northbound
A. P.
Nice place to stop and take a rest. Food is like homemade and not overpriced
R. C.
It is very busy when we got there last week things are like from a farm shop very nice and tasty
B. H.
Absolutely the best motorway services I have ever been to.
Cannot recommend enough.
The food is great, but not cheap. There's no sign of McDonalds, Buger King, or KFC. Just real food.
Best of all. It is faintly reminiscent of a Hobbit hole from the outside.
D. L.
Brilliant services. Great food and some really nice local produce.
C. W.
Carpark was very busy but didn't wait long for a space. Clean facilities with a lovely but slightly pricey farm shop.
E. F.
Strange to be rating a service station, but this one is great. Clean toilets and shower rooms available. Restaurant is lovely, no chains here. Great 'farm shop' style shop. Everything as eco friendly as possible and north carriageway side has a lovely pond with some interesting water foul to look on over your break.
G. C.
Extremely busy but very well organised so you did not feel over processed
D. R.
Owened by the same family that run the 2 T-Bay services on the M6 in Cumbria. Very large restaurant and food shop.
E. G.
Love the food served here. Always fresh and great tasting.
L. B.
Just love this service station wish they had them all over
k. r.
Great place with a farm shop at a motorway service station, brilliant
J. W.
Amazing selection of food here.
p. C.
Nice place as far as service stations go , food very nice but expensive. Friendly staff and very clean public areas
b. H.
Modern service station offering an array of goods in the food shop. Drinks and food available for the weary traveller
S. C.
Great place, lovely walks around, good food, always able to find a table,
R. H.
What a serendipitous find! I'm very pleased I stopped at this very understated restaurant and farm shop cum motorway services.
The prices are not dissimilar from your standard rip-off motorway offering, but the quality is far superior and worth the money. Highly recommended.
V. H.
Stopped off here on my way back to Nottingham in the evening. Was a really great place to stop off from a long journey, relax and have a mosey around. They have fresh foods and produce, alongside gift sets and small trinkets to purchase. The blueberry muffin was to die for, went perfectly with my earl grey tea. Doesn't have the feel of a motor way services, more like a large farm shop with amazing, and friendly service.
J. B.
Nice food and great service ,can get very busy though
r. w.
It's a must if on the m5 north, fantastic location and great food us the place is so clean and tidy, nice people working there to
I. S.
What a breath of fresh air for a motorway service station. No brand names over priced outlets just lots of “homemade” style products including a farm shop and wonderful bread stall. The coffee was OUTSTANDING
make an excuse to visit
R. S.
Lovely services, a bit expensive but it’s worth the price
M. H. P.
If your travelling on the M5, then this is the service station for a true comfort break. Its a wonderful location, and much more relaxed than the usual madness of service stations. The food, tea and coffee are all fabulous and the excellent service from all staff is beyond compare.
The farm shop filled with goodies from around the local area is an absolute treat
Well done to all involved
C. B.
Very busy but they coped well, we had no problem getting served in both the market and the coffee shop outside.
C.
Eco-looking building, well camouflaged, clean inside, rather expensive food in the farm shop & rather bizarrely far more parent & child places than i would expect are ever needed; parking spaces cramped
g. s.
All motorway services should be like this selling first class local produce and supporting the community instead of soulless, greedy chains pumping out indigestible sugar laden rubbish.
M. S.
What breath of fresh air regarding motorway service stations. Completely unique. Spent quite a while there enjoying the food and drink in a nice outdoor seating area. It was the hottest day of the year. Great farm shop. Quality produce. Can recommend the Gloucester Old spot sausages!!
S. M.
Everything looked good. Very expensive in the food shop.
Hygiene in Ladies toilets was poor.
C. H.
Lovely services and a nice stop, especially the pond area but extortionate prices!
R. B.
Definately the best services I've been in. Amazing eco building. Clean. Great food and service. Really pleasant environment.
R. P.
Please see my reveiw for the southbound service area-exactly the same. Both sites are also dog friendly too.
N. W.
Outstanding service station! Great food served in a quiet setting with unusual architecture and no commercialism. Good reliable Gridserve electric vehicle charger. More soon needed though!
U. H. l.
We visited here on the way to viewing some trees- perfect stop for a locally sourced breakfast, and just what we needed to fuel our morning. We were able to take our dog for a walk in the fields before returning to the M5 for our woodland activities. We'll be back!
J. d.
Lovely services to stop at for some real food rather than the usual fast food offerings. Staff are always pleasant and helpful and the facilities are always clean and in good order. Will often stop by when I'm the area.
D. T.
Great place to stop for a meal or to stock up on the different things they stock that you find difficult to find in supermarkets
J. C.
Fab U Lous. What a services. This is a must visit if you are on this motorway. Loads of great food and drink, NOT your typical service station fodder. Locally sourced food and clothes and other lovely stuff too. Superb. Walks for the dogs and a peaceful place to sit for an hour to break up the journey.
K. H.
Clean and fresh. But prices are on the high side. Shuts down at night except at the fuel station. You mist try the wild boar 🐗 sausage rolls. Hot or cold they're great
S. S.
Warning! Once you have Visited Gloucester Services you will not want to visit another roadside Service Station. Good food great service and relaxing surroundings they have it all! Including a lovely Farm Shop. We need more places like this! Highly recommended.
K. S.
Lots of great local produce. Would be great to see some gluten free options as there didn't seem to be any suitable snacks.
D. w.
A refreshing change from the usual motorway services areas. The shop is quite expensive for a lot of items but the farm shop seems to have some nice stuff. Don't expect to find a Costa coffee or W H Smith here. The food on offer is nice and freshly made.
All in all quite a different experience from what we have come to expect from our dull motorway services in the UK.
A. K.
Lovely services, always try to only stop at these when I'm travelling between the South West and North West as the toilets are clean, the shop is well stocked and if I need food/ coffee its always tasty with a good selection. Plus the fact that it is a community run/funding service makes it preferable to the large companies that you usually see.
J. T.
This is the bench mark as to how motorway services should be. Buck your ideas up Welcome Breaks, Moto and all the other rip off, same as each other services that blight out motorway system.
