Reviews of Peterborough Services - Extra
v. j.
One of my favourite stops, perfect for my little one who loves the new play area. Great place to stop and stretch tired legs, and grab a bite from the great options of food. A services well thought out!
D. S.
Great place to stop for a rest or a bite to eat. There are outdoor picnic areas, space to walk a dog and a lovely playground. We love the warm indoor eating area where you can eat your own food or buy from the good range of eateries on offer. Currently some of the toilets are under renovation but the work is not disruptive. A convenient place overall.
B. T.
A few minutes off A1 south, but ample parking, clean loos though smidge dated, many eating options, and a bit of seating for rest. Petrol next door also slightly less extortionate than those off motorways (which was nice/unusual).
M. C.
This is a good service station. Plenty of food options. Clean facilities considering how busy it can be. It's recently undergone some refurbishment outside. There is a children's play area. Comfy seating. Lots of food options. Shell petrol station and easy parking. Ev charging points and plenty of room for a rest and to stretch your legs. As service stations go this is a good one.
P. H.
As services go this one is good, very wide selection of food and other retailers and the Chinese noodle bar was really good. We were served quickly and the food was excellent. I wish we had known about this services sooner, it will likely now be a regular stop for us enroute to Norfolk
A. B.
Excellent modern and clean services, good selection of shops and eateries, clean and recently refurbished. Whilst it's commendable that you have a multi faith prayer room, I don't think the location of it next to the toilets is an appropriate place. I really think that needs looking at and relocating to a different part of the building.
T. D.
This Service station is expansive and has many retail outlets of various appeal, cafés and restaurants come out on top but there is a WHSmith stationery shop and an M&S Simply Food Supermarket, a Casino is available for those of age. The Toilets are Clean, Well maintained and numerous. The middle of the central hall is occupied by chairs tables: Seating and Dining room, Microwaves and sinks are here and are for the use of the general public. The car park has sufficient parking spaces for both the main building and the days Inn hotel on site, there are 2 electric parking areas each with 5-6 parking spots. During the time I was at the services the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were taking place and the large screen at the centre of the main hall was used to broadcast this. Pop Music was playing in the background this coupled with the great design creates a relaxing haven for the traveler, delivery driver and public!
A. M.
Best value food I've ever had in a Services at Warren's Bakery
A. C.
Everything you need for your travels. Nice spacious and clean, 3 hrs free parking! Children's playground, grass to walk your dogs. Would highly recommend.
H. A.
Like quite a lot of services I have been to, the location is really convenient. It's huge as well and there's even a play area for kids. One of my favourite stops
C. F.
1st time stopping here for over 1 year and what an improvement.
Really impressed with the new HGV parking area.
Loads more room to park and not filled up early like it used to be.
Toilets have just been modernised, Not spotless but near enough.
Loads of choice for different food outlets.
They also take Snap so that's a bonus too as £30 for 15hr is quite expensive.
K.
We went at the busiest time and it was crowded. The real reason for the 3 stars is the car park, the way it was designed makes no sense, it funnels all the car spaces into one lane exit going in front of the building with pedestrian crossings in numerous places. This means that the cars must stop for pedestrians, blocking all means of exit for the many cars trying to leave. We sat inching our way to the exit for 15 minutes, it was ridiculous. The designer of that car park should be spanked.
N. P.
New parking area for caravans/motorhomes etc is 1st class. It was a fair walk from the old car park and was awkward having to park with the trucks who are going about their business. The new parking area also has a new entrance into the services building. Excellent effort by the owners.
B.
Usual service area, plenty of food outlets, large car park. Electric vehicle charging available.
S. O.
Great showers and fairly priced laundrette for those on the road! Food choices much better than most services, and plenty of parking for larger vehicles!
C. F.
Ignore the regular restaurants and head to Pizza Luxe!
On the left hand side as you go through the main door.
Far from the madding crowd!
Away from the school holiday crowds.
Part of the Peterborough Services. A brilliant pizza restaurant. The picture below was an Hawaiian with extra green chilli.
The chap serving was lovely and the pizza was crispy with proper ingredients. The best pizza we’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend!!
C. B.
Nice place to stop for break. Lots of parking spaces.
A. F.
A visit of complete contrasts. Two of us had a delicious meal at Chopsticks, two had the standard McDonalds and one was treated appallingly at KFC. She waited 27 minutes to be served, her order was skipped to fulfill a huge Uber order and the manager didn't even apologise for the dreadful service. He refused a refund or even a discretionary discount.
P. T.
We stopped off to go to the loo, which was fine. There are a lot of fast food places, and not much else.
A. S.
This is definitely one of the better Service stations I've visited. I thought the area was clean, plenty of food outlets, to suit all budgets. I went for McDonalds and was one of the places that didnt seem to have a service station 30% surcharge lol. Majority of places close at 10, however the McDonalds and KFC is 24 hours as is the seating area and toilets
C. W.
Very busy, queing from just off the A1. Has everything here you would need. McDonald's/KFC / WHSmiths / M&S food with lots of seating. Just gets very busy.
R. T.
Decent amount of choice but most food places shut by 9pm, not so good if your on the road and hungry
D. B.
First time visiting here, was pleasantly surprised, appeared very clean despite being very busy, toilets very clean and well kept, overall a pleasent place to rest. There is very good choice for eating with all the major outlets there, only sl downside was parking availability, but as I said it was extremely busy when we visited. Overall I recommend.
S. B.
Pizzaluxe is the place to go!! Delicious hot pizza served fresh and quickly. Cannot fault it at all.
B. B.
Good busy services, the only thing which is why I didn't give it 5 stars, if you have a caravan you have to park it with the lorries across a horrible dirty road. Other than that great services. Lots of food places and lots of toilets.
A. F.
Excellent service station, plenty of choice for food and desserts, lots of seating, the toilets were nice and clean, 2 members of staff constantly cleaning tables, they've recently opened a wafflemeister but it was freezing today otherwise I would have ordered.
S. W.
Convenient stop. Got what you need. Generally clean but toilets could be better
G. T.
Very good and clean toilets nice food but fuel is a bit expensive apart from that I had a McDonald’s the service was good but quite slow
R. R.
I travel all over the UK for work and leisure and believe this is one of my favourite services.
Plenty places to park, there are electric charging stations if you drive electric car, there services have many places to eat from including McDonald's, KFC, ChopStix Noodle Bar, a Bake Potato place, Mexican and more. Toilet are clean and plenty places to sit and eat.
U. L.
Cozy atmosphere, very helpful staff. Amazing for a break from the road.
a.
Good service station with many facilities, also has a multi faith room for praying with dedicated wudu/ablution taps inside
D. K.
Pretty good motorway services with popular eateries and an M&S Food branch. The toilets are clean!
J. H.
Very busy, but it was a bank holiday and service was pretty good
P. W.
Good place for stop between journey's for rest and eating inside or out whether on bike car + caravan motorhome or lorry
J. S.
Plenty of parking, several shops, clean toilets, electric car chargers, petrol station, room to walk around, walk a dog. Free parking for a couple of hours.
E. S.
Not too crowded, we found parking space and a table inside. Good choice of food. Mc Donald's for kids, Chinese or Mexican for adults. Some shops for essentials. Toilets are undergoing renovations, you can use them though.
C. J.
NEW HGV PARKING OPEN BUT BE CAREFUL NEAR THE LAMP POSTS SOME ARE REALLY CLOSE
O. O.
Very busy Motorway Service on A1 Peterborough. Well equipped with McDonald's and KFC among others in the food court.
Q. L.
Only used this service station once. Found lots of traffic trying to come into the service station, plenty of space in the carpark. Their is a also an overflow carpark. Plenty of food choices. Amenities are above average. I would have given this five 🌟 but due to the way the carpark is made, traffic starts queuing back.
D. C.
Play park for young kids and good range of fast food
G. W.
One of the better service stations to stop at. There is a good selection of places to eat at and a couple of shops. All slightly dearer than the high street equivalent. I particularly like Chopstix, you get a portion of noodles and a selection of chicken toppings. Toilets are always packed here
r. s.
Plenty of seating, lots of parking and a good variety of food outlets
D. B.
Good variety of food outlets. From Mexican to noodles to hotdogs. Makes a change from the normal services that all look the same.
a.
Free parking upto two hours. Free to use toilets and a large food court with a McDonald's, KFC, Costa , noodle bar, american diner , marks and spencers , wh smiths , and a Mexican place. Also a little arcade bit with over 18 fruit machines.
Toilets were clean and usable unlike some services.
Not a bad rest stop.
F. S.
Excellent choice of food: M&S, WHSmith, KFC, Mc Donald's, Ed's Diner, Mexican and a noodle bar even a Patisserie Valerie! Highly recommended this pitstop. Clean modern toilets. There are picnick table outside also. And 2 phone shops
C. G.
Very civilised place. Clean and tidy with plenty shops. Big parking. A good place to take a break 🙂
p. m.
Great choice of food at a very reasonable price
J. B.
Peterborough Services is a large service station on the A1(M). The main building contains: Chopstix, KFC, McDonalds, Costa, Quicksilver, M&S, Warren’s Bakery, and many other restaurants and shops. There are also large toilets in between KFC and McDonalds. In the centre of all of the shops there is a food hall, as well as an upstairs eating area.
A.
Plenty of facilities and parking even with summer hols
J. K.
Two Gridserve chargers with two ports each, Ionity as well. Good food selection.
c. c.
Chargers were free most times that we visited and the toilets were clean Google keeps asking about restrooms, I assume they are referring to the hotel because sure they must know that no one in the UK calls toilets a restroom!
The staff are friendly and helpful as I found when I had to go back to retrieve a handbag that I had left there by mistake.
M. N.
- Costa
- WHSmith
- American Style Diner
- Patisserie Valerie
- McDonald's
And currently a noodle bar, all arranged in a circular food court. There is a small display of local Roman archaeology, cased near the entrance to the toilets. Never had a problem getting a close parking space either.
C. K.
Access - Very easy.
Parking - Plenty of spacious parking.
Toilets - Clean. Properly Maintained.
Food court area - Regularly cleaned. Properly Maintained.
For the number of people passing through, the cleanliness of this place must be truly appreciated. The cleaning staff attends very quickly to the tables once people leave and make it clean and ready for the next customers.
Food options - Fairly a larger number of choices. [Costa]: This is one of the best outlets of Costa. Very friendly staff to offer you proper coffee in the proper temperature. Quick service! [Chopstix Noodle Bar]: My wife bought noodles from this. Well presented good food. The service was quick. [El Mexicana]: I bought a quesadilla and a large sweet potato fries. But I will never buy anything from here. Food is just fine. But the way food was given is bad. They gave me the cardboard pack sweet potato fries while the oils dripping from its bottom. I realised my palm and fingers had been burnt due to this. The way the quesadilla was given in a tiny cardboard wrapper-case was also bad. I couldn't keep it on the table at least for a while as most of that quesadilla would be on the table if I did. So I had to hold it in my hand all the time until I finish eating it. [McDonalds]: Bought 2 milkshakes. The strawberry and vanilla tastes were overpowered by an overwhelming amount of sweeteners added to it. It was too crowded. Therefore, I had to wait a few minutes until the order became ready. But their staff were very fast and the order became ready much earlier than I expected.
A.
Good place to stop. A bit of everything for everyone
B. H.
Nice coffee and surroundings comfortable. WC was clean
J. H.
Amazing food team always chatty happy always positive and incredible experience in here i work near by and always getting food in this Chopstixs always fresh and good portions
A. B.
Great place to stop for a break and rest stop
L. P.
Baby changing facilities, I know it's not your fault people are disgusting but regular checks need to be done as these services are always super busy.
I hadn't noticed this until input the changed table back up
M. F.
Motorway services, we only use them when we need to. Ok selection of fast food shops. Toilets were maintained.
M. S.
Best food on the A1 in my opinion. Plenty of choice! Good prices too! Well worth a visit!
Edit: The time I had to wait to be served at KFC this evening (17/11/21) was terrible. I was waiting for nearly half an hour! Therefore, I have removed one star. Otherwise, the best services on the A1!
S. M.
not bad. bit busy from 6pm onwards for hgv parking. not bad showers. decent food outlets.
R. h.
We always stop at these services when we go up north on the A1 to Hull to see family up there. The services are alway clean and pleasant. They have a great selection of different restaurants available as well and the prices are really reasonable too which is surprising as it being a service station. The parking is also good there it is always busy but you always manage to gain a space with very minimal waiting time.
L. T.
After a long drive from York my wife and I needed a break and the Extra Motorway Services couldn't have been better placed. Parking was plentiful , petrol station easy to get to and food concessions that had just about anything a traveler would wan't. After a good rest the facilities were checked (nice and clean too) we were on our way home. I highly recommend them . It was close to the motorway and easy to access. Highly recommended.
J. G.
A genuinely nice set of services. Great food court area with tons of choice and a excellent array of smells to entice you. Does also include the usual amenities you would expect to find, but without it seeming like that is the focus.
One other point to note - all the food is well priced and not necessarily as much as you would expect from a service station.
D. J.
Typical rest stop but as with all service area stops with no other competition all the outlets charge in my opinion prices that are far to expensive. I would not even consider paying the prices they ask only stopped there to use the rest room. I did observe that a great many of the tables were left uncleared and never saw any staff to either clear the tables or doing any cleaning the toilets were presentable but the cleanliness could be better. Giving 3 stars from my point of view is more than fair as I almost only wanted to rate it no more then 2 stars
S. A.
My family and I have been using the services here for years. It has become a regular stop on our travels east. The facilities are well maintained and kept clean. There are a variety of eating establishments to suit all tastes plus a W H Smith and M&S. The parking is plentiful although during peak times it becomes very full. One of the best service areas I have visited.
D. F.
Nice place, parking tight, super selection of foods and beverages
E. K.
A nice place to have a break from long drive and have a meal. Spacious place with a wide variety of choice. Mexican, Chinese, American and British cousin are available inside as well as phone service and photo booth. Toilets are nice and tidy. In the summer benches and tables outside are available with playground for kids next to it.
K. D.
It was very busy when we called although there were still many parking spaces available. There was plenty of choice re food and many vendors to choose from. The toilets were clean and well tended. All in all a decent services and an improvement on the many we have come across on the continent.
P. D.
Upon walking into this service station you'd think my wife had died and gone to heaven. We visit a lot of service stations doing many road trips throughout the year and this one wowed us. Fantastic selection of places to eat... She got very excited about that! Good clean toilets too and easy to park in even at a very busy travelling time.
P. H.
Revamped, and now with more parking and a reasonably sensible car park layout, these services are now worth stopping at.
Ed's Easy Diner offers sit down meal options, while the usual McDonald's, KFC and Costa options cover other bases. The also French, Mexican and Chinese options, so everybody should be kept happy.
The seating area is busy, but a new area above the entrance adds space. It's probably still not quite enough at peak times though.
P. F.
Very good services. Very clean.
S. T. T.
Fine service station. It does appear to have a good selection of food outlets. I don't know the costs as we only went for the toilets.
The parking is tight, when will the design car parks for the larger sized cars, it seems we are still stuck in the 60's car sizes for design.
Leaving the car park is very tortuous leading you out passed of course the fuel station which we didn't want to visit. Also the way road out seemed to be nearer the food retail outlets where there is more pedestrian traffic. Poor design
R. B.
Ate at McDonalds, food was ok, but why don't any of the staff wear gloves while handling food.
I could see all of the staff in the kitchen and not one was wearing gloves.
Surely we all need protecting during this virus.
Maybe there is a good reason for this I think I would want to know .
G. R.
⛽ 🛒 🚻 🅿 🍲
A larger service area. It has a range of food outlets. All OK for a quick snack, a small Marks and Spencer food shop and the usual toilets. In its class its OK, being usually clean and tidy.
The parking can get very busy around traditional meal times.
There is also a fuel ⛽ station.
G. F. (.
Basing this on the actual services as apposed to the business that reside there. I travel once a week or so up to the midlands so stop here quite frequently for a quick break in my car. It's always easy to get in and out of the car parks (as long as the other users are being sensible) and feels pretty safe. The condition of the facilities is usually above average, the layout of the food hall is a little frustrating at times, especially with the McDonalds "queue" if people are trying to pass - perhaps it would have been better to put both the most popular takeaways on the same side?
Anyway overall it's a good stop for people travelling by car in my opinion :)
S. O.
Bit of a mixed bag here. The overall facilities are good with a useful range of shops and food outlets. Plenty of parking space, and we were able to charge our electric car from the ecotricity point. However the toilets were some of the most disgustingly dirty I've seen in many years.
E. W.
Great place to stop, plenty of choice in eateries and a M&S store if you need to pick up essentials. Toilets are cleaned regularly. Have been using this stop regularly for past sixteen years and it is one of the best motorway services I visit on my journeys around the country!
a.
A very modern but busy service station. Certainly one of the nicer ones compared to the awful 70s style ones that you see. Very good selection of food outlets to choose from. Toilets are clean and well maintained. Plenty of car parking too.
K. B.
Good variety of places to eat and pleasant toilets! Fairly relaxing as far as motorway services go, so a good place to stop. A decent amount of parking as well and a children's play area for when they're feeling a little peaky on the journey.
S. L.
Modern and with pleasant enough atmosphere but everything shut from late evening onwards except McDonald's and toilets. Garage, which is more the size of a small supermarket, is at least open all night (although not the cheapest place to fill up at, either with food or petrol, as you might expect).
D. W.
The Extra services is full of great restaurants and good shops. There is stalls to purchase phone items from chargers to cases. Very good. There is a green out the front which is gated off for dogs and there is also a play area for kids. Massive car park.
M. D.
Great place to have a poo. The toilet seat was comfortable and the flush worked on the second go which is really unusual for a man of my size.
Many thanks, will definitely come again.
K. R.
Stop here regularly and it's always spotlessly clean. All the staff I've dealt with have been friendly, polite and efficient. Not huge but a really good choice of different types of food and an M&S to get a pint of milk for the end of your journey.
T. S.
A good deal of choice when it comes to food, lit of options from Mexican, noodles, Eds American style diner, McDonald's, KFC, Cornish pastie stall and patisserie with coffee. There is WH Smith and phone accessories stall. A cash machine. Good clean toilets. There was lots of space to park, and a good petrol station doing various fuels. Well worth a visit if your driving by.
a. p.
Great place to visit when on the road . Lots to choose from and get plenty of time to stay as it’s three hours free parking . Staff are friendly and helped with directions to my next destination. would definitely recommend
P. H.
Okay service station not very busy
H. H.
Everybody hates service stations on the motorway, but this one is actually a very welcoming place. It's the clever way they put all the food options in a circle around the seating in the middle. No hassle about sitting in the ' wrong' area...and I have often taken my own GF food and only bought a tea but nobody chases me out. This is the place I choose to stop every time I'm on the A1. Great range of foods and drinks too.
C. H.
Why do motorway service stations put selling above service? The toilets are always the furthest they can be from the door so that you have to pass everything by. I refuse to buy anything on principle when they adopt this layout. It's quite honestly the last thing you need when wanting to find the facilities quickly after a few hours in the car! Clean services with many food options, just a shame about the layout.
S. E.
For a service station it's clean and relatively well maintained. Just been through a major face-lift (2016) and has a great range of 0laces to eat... toilets could do with a revamp... but aren't bad.
B.
At the time of writing this service station is under repair as you can see in one of the photos. That makes it quite cold and breezy inside. The floor is also very slippery; I literally just helped an old lady off the floor who had fallen over. Having been here before I can say that it's not always this bad which is why I have scored it as ok. The choice of food is quite good here and the toilet facilities are reasonably clean, though not fantastic.
C.
Mediocre service station at best. Would have expected more from an 'Extra' branch of service stations. Still, cleanliness is decent, and overall atmosphere is too.
h. e.
Very nice service station here, stopped at 3:30am on our way to London.
We went in, everything mostly shut except the McDonalds, which was OK.
The person serving was really nice to us, and just got on with his job.
There is LOADS of seating, including a really nice area up top, which can be accessed by stairs. There are plenty of parking spaces as well. Also, suprisingly, this service station had to have been one of the most cleanest services I have ever stepped my foot into.
I have to give this a 5, absolutely will be using an Extra MSA whenever I am going south. :)
M. B.
What can you say about services...... it was clean, good choice of food outlets , great play area for kids to burn off the pent up energy a long journey creates. There an old road area just down from the play area that is perfect to walk you dog. As far as services go it's not a bad one to choose if you have kids and a dog in tow
R. H.
Rather a tight fitting car park. Has all the usual shops food drink and a small one armed bandit room (nick named Pedro). Toilets are clean. Cash machine. And yes I will be going back
G. B.
Great place to stop over, as we did on our way to Edinburgh from London. Nice selection of restaurants and cafés and a convenient store. The restrooms were clean and well appointed. There is even a gas station in the vicinity.
S. T.
Arrived at the services around 8pm travelling from Essex to North east Lincolnshire, managed to grab some of the noodles at the noodle bar and some drinks from m&s before they shut. They have plenty of places to eat, McDonald's, kfc, Mexican and even a columbian eatery. Arrows on the floor for you to follow the current guidelines with covid and sanitation stations around.
R. W.
A better then normal service station. The fuel is still more expensive here. There are many choices of food to eat here. It is very clean and the toilets are spotless. Free parking for 2 hours after that you have to pay by telephone. It is very expensive to pay here after you 2 hours are up.
M. L.
Busy, busy, busy: almost always. Runs at capacity and over most weekends which can make for long queues for the food concessions, which can be frustrating if you are in a hurry. It also means that the attendants can struggle to keep up with keeping the toilets clean.
El Mexicana deserves a mention and recommended over the other usual roadside junk food retailers - as a healthier and tastier alternative, offering good value.
The M&S has a good, although more expensive than usual, selection.
S. M.
Excellent service station, can’t fault its food and facilities however my colleague Mark had a good clean out in the service station toilets which left the toilets in a terrible state of affairs. The mood was duplicated on the faces of the customers using the facilities, there faces a look of anger and disappointment. We swiftly vacated the service station not long after as the smell was unbearable.
G. C.
One of the better service stations along this stretch of road. A good variety of food options and a couple of places to get coffee too. The toilets aren't usually that great, but that could be because of the quantity of people coming through. It can get really busy so you may have wait, there are commonly long queues for the women's toilet and most of the fast food outlets at peak times.
E. A.
Busy place but normally able to get a parking place. Plenty of places to eat from McDonald's, KFC, Costa plus Noodles and waffles plus others. Also shops for usual travel stuff. Not high street prices but if you need it it's there.
S. B.
Great choice of food, but so noisy! A nightmare for people with hearing aids, because all the background noise is even worse for them. The hand driers in the toilets were deafening!
J. I.
It's not great. A squashed cockroach outside the gents toilets and a lot of flies on the mezzanine eating platform. The food choices are okay, nothing all that healthy. Opted for McDonald's after seeing the cockroach, for some reason i see McDonald's having better food hygiene than other companies I've never heard of... The food was as expected. Wouldn't want to stop here again but there's hardly a lot of options on the A1
R.
It's a motorway services with lots of choice of different fast food, the only thing somewhat different it has a Burrito bar. It also has a recycling centre for recyclable items rather than putting everything in the bin. Other than that clean toilets and nice clean seating areas to eat your food. Prices are higher than you'd find on the High Street or local superstores but isn't that normal worldwide for motorway service areas? But plastic bottles of fizzy water and 500 ML soda( but seems to be the same as other motorway service areas in the UK) seem to be almost double High Street prices while most other things seem to have rises of 20% over high street or superstore prices.
P. G.
Perfectly adaquate Service Station with plenty of parking. Places were freely available when we visited in a half term holiday. A petrol station on site provides the "as usual" expensive petrol, the advantage of a more or less monopoly. Inside is a good selection of eating establishments, something for everyone. Also are a few shops selling the exact things you would expect them to sell. Toilets clean
J. T.
Decent range of cafes, shops and restaurants in this service station. Toilets are clean and well maintained. The car park isn't the easiest to navigate however.
D. B.
Average food court layout, good variety of food on offer, tables covered in trays/food, and no cleaners visible. We visited McDonald's, I couldn't find the meals I wanted on the ordering screen so I queued up for a staff member, apparently meals are not done here anymore so I told her what I wanted and she said 'no probs'... Unfortunately she messed up and after a 10min wait for the order I had to wait another 15 for the correct order 😣 next time i'll use the KFC
H. S.
OK for a quick stop. Toilets always need a bit off attention and sometimes the food served by vendors is questionable but, it's a motorway services, so don't expect Michelin starred restaurants and you'll be fine 😉
C. H.
Very pleasant as service stations go. They have interesting and varied food franchises and the whole place is well looked after, including the gents toilets which let’s face it are frequented in most places by unhousetrained animals who for some reason always seem to have marker pens with them
C. B.
Clean, airy and uncluttered. Food from the Mexican outlet was very palatable and not over-priced. Stupid location for the coach park, meaning the coaches have to drive through the middle of the car park though.
A. E.
Toilet facilities clean and maintained with showers available too. A variety of food outlets either seated or fast food. A supermarket and stationers adds to the mix. Well worth a visit to freshen up and have a break from travelling.
G. S.
As motorway services go this is a good one. Plenty of choice for food, decent toilet facilities and a large seating area.
If you are going on a long journey and plan to stop, this is a good option.
M. F.
Everything you'd expect from an extra motorway Services really. Lots of free parking, clean and well looked after. Lots of toilets which are always handy. The only downside and it's a downside that all these spaces have is that they are ridiculously overpriced.
J. S.
Service is always good and toilets are usually clean and well maintained. Items are priced higher than in stores as you would expect . Costa McDonald's KFC and other outlets are available. Plenty of parking and fuel is also available.
M. J.
OK services. Lots of facilities and services available. Plenty of parking for cars and enough parking for trucks and buses. Staying for more than 2 hours is subject to parking fees. All products from most outlets are expensive but this is due to high rents at motorway services. Mcdonalds is normal pricing so a convenient place to stop for an unhealthy snack on a long road trip.
J.
Good selection of food outlets to cater for everyone's needs
J. R.
Good parking and plenty of shops. High standard - M&S food , Patisserie Valerie, Eds Diner, WH Smith, and lots more. Good seating. Huge phone accessories shop. There is also a hotel next-door.
I. M.
Good choice of food, would like to see places offering more vegetarian or vegan options. There's a market there for some enterprising individual. As all motorway services though, you'll pay extra for most stuff.
R. H.
Park free for 2 hours, great facilities, and a large range of hot food outlets ( McDonald's, KFC, Ed's Diner) plus more. Also the fuel station sells hot food, and there are Electric points to charge your car, as well as normal types of fuel.
c. g.
I was on our way to Scotland for a holiday and was taken ill. we stopped at Peterborough services and I had to call an ambulance. the manager at the services was notified I was taken by ambulance to hospital and wasn't given a ticket for over staying. I also emailed them to thank them too. I have now moved to Newcastle and often travel back to my home town in Suffolk and always stop at Peterborough services. I have found this place to be very relaxed and helpful.
L. A. T. C.
Nice and clean, well presented 😀 popped in for a loo and brew break and it ticked all the right boxes: well staffed and looked after, lots of popular choices, close and easy parking. Not often on this road, but I would happily stop here again if in the area 😀
H. P.
Top notch service station with a quality choice of dining options. Similar to Beaconsfield services on M40. Quality outlets of fast food and shops with 2 nice sit in restaurants. One is an American diner the other is Patisserie Valerie which has decent hot food and good breakfast alongside the pastries and cakes. Good coffee in there.
G. L.
We stop here everyone we head north. Good eateries here but we never make in time for Ed's Easy Diner, because it closes way too early. At a guess they stop taking guests at 8:30 pm for a 9 pm closing time. Toilets are OK
J. E. M.
Ordered from Chop Stix rice and noodles 🍜 boxes. Very filling and reasonably priced. With quite spicy undertones. Sat upstairs over the top of the main entrance, which gives you a view of the whole commissary area.
A. T.
Great choice of eateries here, loved Noodle Nation, followed by coffees in Costa. Just what was needed on a long road trip up the A1 when feeling tired out. Disabled access was great, the disabled loos very were clean and tidy too, a welcome change from those on the M1. Shane I don't use the A1 more, but it doesn't go the way I usually need to travel...
S. D.
This is one of the better service station locations to visit refresh etc. Lovely selection of shops/fast food and diner. Cleaner facilities and reasonable parking space at best. Can be busy!
S. H.
Best services around. Always good service, and the toilets are kept in nice working order. Classic services pricing for fuel but what can you expect.
Has always been a great place to stop when Im driving between london and yorkshire
C. S.
This is probably the best motorway service station I have used for somewhere to eat, and I have been to a LOT of services. This has Mexican, Chinese, McDonald's, KFC, American Diner, English roast dinners, a fast service Costa stall and Costa cafe. It sells equipment for your phone, the toilets are cleaned regularly, and it is positioned ideally for anyone coming from London up north to anywhere.
G. W.
Walking through the doors here, I felt like I was on holiday. Children on school trips, families taking the day off and weary motorway travelers filled the large open space surrounded by fast food outlets. Important note: a regular can of Coca Cola cannot be purchased anywhere in this service station, not even in W H Smiths! I ate from the Chinese stand (it has the best location right at the front) which was mediocre, filling but the flavouring on the chicken tasted a little artificial. Useful tip: if your going to be there a while and don't want to sit somewhere a little quieter there is a seating area directly above the entrance which receives lots of sunlight.
M. W.
Parking for HGV's ok but could do with a clean up. Food hall good with a wide variety of venues. Gents showers not too good and only two of them so early evening a que of four were waiting at 5pm. Average standard for truck parking as of the rest of UK lately.
L. P.
The toilets have a tenancy to be quite messy (mens anyway) otherwise the facilities are good with there being plenty of options for food or drink. The fuel is expensive but this is fairly normal for a motorway services. TOP TIP!!! The cash machine charges inside of the building, however the cash machine at the petrol station is free.
M. D.
You can't help but feel that whichever poor sod has to design such soul-destroying places really made an extra effort to create something that might be OK to look at from outside or above, with clear lines and what have you.
Unfortunately, this person clearly doesn't have much imagination when it comes to considering how humans might interact with the place.
I completely understand why the client might think it was a fantastic idea to force anybody and everybody who needs a toilet all the way past every blasted retail outlet in the place in hopes they'll be desperate to buy something on their way, unable to resist the KFC or the McDonald's. But frankly, it's pretty off to make the disabled loo so far from the entrance.
For anyone just about managing to hobble 20m on crutches, it's a long haul past fellow travellers and their squealing, overtired offspring, suffering the effects of fruit shoot-bribery-induced peace in the car and determined to make up for it by haring about the place while their frazzled parents seek the highest caffeine content in the food court. And you've still got to get past the same melee on the way back, potentially needing to stop several times because its basically too far.
For wheelchair users, the toilet options given are 🚹♿ or 🚺🚼 - so no gender stereotyping there. While it actually is possible for female wheelchair users to reach the disabled loo, it's not at all clearly signed, and it is sited in the entrance lobby on the gents side of things. It's also not protected by a radar key, so the state of it can be pretty awful. And yes, fathers can access the baby changing room, but it's all frankly in need of a rethink to make the signage more helpful.
The assortment of retail outlets is pretty standard. Coeliac visitors are not very well catered for if they just want to grab something quickly and go. Eds Diner has GF food, but I rarely want a sit down meal when I'm making a long journey, and if I did it wouldn't be at motorway services. M&S sort of have some options, but it's all pretty badly thought through. More emphasis on sandwiches and salads from th Made Without Wheat range would be better than endless packets of cake and biscuits.
Ultimately, if you gotta go, you gotta go. But that's really all I'll ever want to do in this place.
J. S.
Good services with plenty of gfood choices inside. Fast food outlets and sit down restaurants. Usual petrol station / toilets and hotel on site. Parking is good. Just a but expensive but which motorway services aren't.
A. B.
A fairly large motorway services. Usual large parking for cars, lorries and caravans. There is a fuel filling station here with plenty of pumps, obviously charging a premium for the close proximity to the motorway. The site is situated a couple of roundabouts from the motorway so not as convenient as a slip road. The food hall is a dome shape with the toilets and showers at the rear. There are various eateries including Mcdonalds, Mexican, Chinese and others. There is also a M and S food hall and a WH Smiths. All of the middle area is designated for seating, though this does give it a canteen atmosphere.
M. K.
Good food choice (I liked the Chinese noodle stand), toilets clean enough to use them without hesitation. the table layout could be improved (hard to get to tables inside the circle).
S. P.
I have stopped off here several times and have to say there is a great selection of food and drinks available. As service stations go, it is one of the better ones. My only issue is the toilets could really do with a better clean.
A.
There is a nice set of picnic tables and children's play area at the back of the car park. The display of Roman remains excavated at the site is interesting and can be found in a small display cabinet on the way to the toilets. In comparison to other motorway service stations on this part of the A1, this is probably the best option.
D. S.
We plan to stop at these services whenever we are heading northbound. Great selection of eatery and fuel prices aren't too over the top. Usually busy but parking still available.
J. F.
One of my favourite services, if thats a thing. Has lots of food choice, not a rip off and if you have dogs park along the back and you can reverse up the grass and sit on the picnic benches behind the car with your woofers.
J. L.
Just off the A1 near Peterborough. Stopped here quite a few times with my family on trips. Good selection of food, coffee, shops etc. McDonalds, KFC, Costa etc. Always clean. Can get busy but always found a parking space.
C. S.
After several disappointing service station visits along the A1 we were delighted to discover the Mecca of A1 service stations that is Perterborough Services. As a group of 4 recovering from a festival and with ranging dietary requirements, we were all well catered for by the eclectic range of international cuisines available. Highly recommend.
S. V.
A large, bright and spacious motorway stop off with ample parking and a petrol station on exit. Contains a food court comprising El Mexicana, Noodle Bar, Ed's Diner, Costa, Patisserie Valerie, KFC, McDonalds and also M&S shop. Toilets are usually clean, plentiful and well stocked. Main food court also has two large screens showing live news with subtitles and local traffic information. Unfortunately during my visit on this occasion these were not on, which was a shame as it could have warned me that the A1 M was closed after J53, and allowed me chance to select a different route north.
S. L.
Nice size services with McDonald's, KFC, Costa coffee, m&s simply food, el mexicana, wh Smith's. This is a busy services so expect a wait for McDonald's and Costa. Toilets are clean and tidy though a bit short of hand dryers.
J. H.
This Services at Peterborough is a main stop for us, when we do jobs heading up in to Lincolnshire. Despite being very busy, the queues are dealt with rather quickly, regardless of which shop / restaurant it is. Definitely have all hands on deck, here! And another bonus is that we always manage to find a place to sit together, which is nice because we work in a team of 5-6 people. The toilet facilities are also remarkably clean.
K. S.
Great services. Lots of parking. Amazing noodle bar as soon as you walk in with lots of variety of different food outlets. Bathrooms are clean and plentiful.
T. R.
I like stopping here as there's a range of fast food and coffee eateries. It's at a convenient half way point on a route I regularly take so I am often visiting. All the standard facilities one can expect is here.
M. R.
Don't like this turnoff from A1 and have started using bar hill to combine shopping with stopping. Well maintained but like so many services there can be very limited food&drink offerings when off-peak.
R. T.
A reluctant break in the journey. We usually have a comfort break here, and pick up something to eat, but it is so noisy. If there was an alternative it's doubtful we would return.
I have given it 3 stars because it is clean and offers a variety of food and shops.
D. W.
Always like to stop at Extra Peterborough, as it is convenient between home & London. THE BIG PROBLEM IS ...I have a caravan, and we seem NOT TO BE WANTED. There is a large area for coaches, which has at the most, when I have been there, about 3 or 4 coaches in an area that could take about a dozen. We with our caravan are directed to the lorry park, where there appears to be only two designated caravan parking spots, so we have to use the lorry park which is often almost full, and it is a long way from the cafes and other facilities, and I am sorry to say quite often smells of urine. Why can't we use the "old" coach park area, or even the new coach park area. We used to be directed to an area near where the new coach park area is now, but more often than not the spaces designated "caravans" were used by white vans. COME ON EXTRA please help.
S. M.
We stopped in here for a very brief comfort break - and the services seemed very good. When we return from Norfolk, we often stop at the Van Hage garden centre on the other side of Peterborough - next time, I will try stopping here; it just seemed better.
A. D.
Nice service station, as service stations go. General selection of food places and halfway tidy coffee. A little more expensive than usual within the various outlets themselves but that's to be expected.
G. P.
Really good selection of eating places, including an Ed's Diner which is clearly a destination for locals.
The only downside when we visited was the national chicken shortage! KFC, McDonald's and Ed's all had none.
T. H.
Defo one of the better services around and beat MOTO, Welcome Break etc hands down for food options. Plus you get 3 hours free parking not the usual 2, although for HGV's I don't think they do meal vouchers (price isn't daftly high).
Only downside really is limited HGV parking compared to some, but it's well laid out albeit a distance from the services itself.
K. H.
Many may eating places, from fast food outlets to sit down and chill for a while. McDonald's, KFC, fry up stuff in a roll, burger bar, American burger bar, etc Marks & Spencer mini food shop, & Many more.
L. G.
I usually stop here when heading North on the A1, theres plenty of choice for food and drink and lots of seating. I wish there was a bit more parking although the system has been recently updated, it is still difficult to get in and out or find a space during peak times.
A. M.
When it comes to making the car go their diesel can't be faulted, but it does have a very strong flavour. I had to add quite a lot of Vimto to make it quafable and it took quite a few pickled onion flavour Monster Munch to get rid of the after taste.
M. V.
One of the better services en route
M. P.
One of the best service stations I've ever been to. Clean, well laid out and a place where you can buy a big bacon and sausage bap for less then £3. Or a McFlurry if you fancy it....
s. b.
As motorway service areas go, it's good, but let's face it the bar is set pretty low byt the usual suspects on the whole with very few exceptions. All the usual objections to the high prices and charges for services. Card machines were down so I opted to forego lunch as a point of principle as I object to being charged for withdrawing my own money from machine (the transaction would've been free via contactless had their equipment been working). So was it a good experience? Nope. As a rule though I think Xtra are doing a better job than the others, some of which I refuse to even stop at.
J. S.
Reasonable choice of food outlets with shared seating area. Decent play area to give a 3 year old a run round.
K. B.
Nice and clean with good selection of places to eat. Has two Electrocity charging stations for EV\Hybrid vehicles outside the main food hall
C. C.
I like Extra services - plenty of alternative food choice as well as the usual brands. At this one, I stop regularly to get a Costa and can choose from KFC, McD's or noodles, Mexican, pastries etc. Convenient for the A1, but can get quite busy.
B. L.
Would like a caffe nero here.. or a leons.. or a wasabii with healthier food options. KFC blocked other stores with their que and M&S didn't run other discounts that applied to their other stores such as O2 priority. But its clean. Theres lots of parking and toilets so it does the job.
M. B.
So many choices for food. It's a very busy place be warned. Very clean. Note its not the last petrol station and the one up the road heading North is several pence per litre cheaper.
B. L.
Ok, clean, functional. Aah toilets. Costa claim on the radio that they recycle coffee cups from all coffee vendors. Well.... They told us to simply bin the MacDonalds coffee cups. Com on Costa, you'll have to do better than that.
S. B.
Plenty of parking, clean toilets and a good range of shops and food outlets. Always make a stop here on the way down and back from Ipswich as an ideal half-way point.
J. J.
Love shopping here during night there is no people pushing around service are really good. I do big night shopping so lady's that work night shift always takes me to the till that I would not need to spend ages at self checkout.
P. K.
Great choice for food whether you are sitting in or taking away and the facilities are fairly well maintained and clean. Eds Diner is definately my favourite choice if I have a little time!
c. n.
Easy accessing, good location. There have everything you need for travel rest.
J. B.
As a foreigner found myself an unexpectedly large dining center and had a great burger at Ed's, just left around the corner. Nice staff, great 50's layout!
E. S.
Nice enough place to stop for a toilet break and some food if you need it. Good array of food outlets. As over priced as these places ever are
G. J.
Basic stuff like KFC, McDonald's, Mark & Spencer, HWSmith etc., big seating area for everyone with a massive screen with live TV. Car park is big, petrol station and ATM available around, as well as free toilets.
A. W. (.
Plave called chopsticks in there, great noodle food good value for money, also KFC in there aswell as Costa McDonald's ect
x.
Good motorway services, a decent selection of food and the toilets are always clean. Visited here many times and it is a great place to stop to break up a long journey.
a. r.
Parking is very expensive £25 with no meal voucher. There is a large selection of different foods to choose from, but becareful of food getting cold very quickly
M. W.
Good clean place with plenty of parking and all the services, but if you're after coffee it's a 20-minute stop, all-in. Much quicker to go to a petrol station
M. S.
Good services has everything you need for a break on your journey very clean toilet facilities good eating places not to badly priced for location will use this again in the future
A. H.
Lots of parking. Small play area at the back. Plenty of seating inside and lots of food/snack options. The petrol station is quite expensive though; better to get your fuel at one of the other places on the A1.
J. W.
Spacious car park, with great services inside of the building. Very large and clean toilet facilities. Generally clean tables. What more can you ask for?
H. W.
Best place to visit for food noodles and great service
L. J.
Standard services, I only went to Costa and it was fine. Covid-19 arrangements seemed ok too. It was quiet when I visited
P. H.
Whenever I come up north to Grimsby I always stop here as a halfway point when I rested then on to the final destination!
M. B.
Fairly good. Just services does what it needs to. These busy places are never the cleaness, but not unclean. Good selection of fast food.
M.
I've travelled around the UK a lot and these have to be by far the best services I have visited. Vast selection of shops and places to eat. Ample parking and very clean and well maintained building.
S. P.
Plenty of choice plenty of seating clean toilets usually fast service but ques at busy times obv. Always tidy and good selection of shops/stalls/food styles
H. G.
Difficult to describe as services, more of a petrol station with a small carpark. Toilets are clean but limited in number with long queues for the ladies. Getting back into A1 is tricky with the short sliproad.
t.
Like all other extra motorway services
Plenty of food choices McDonald's kfc marks and Spencer etc fairly large car park quite a busy stop just off the A1
P. S.
It's a pity that caravans are meant to park with the trucks with only one way in and out and furthest from the facilities. Had to wait about five minutes while a Suttons truck messed about trying to get parked in line when we wanted to leave.
V. S.
Fairly clean but very busy. I will not eat at such places because I do not eat the sort of food they selI. Okay for occasional shopping and loo break!
A. M.
Plenty of food choices and facilities were clean. As it was busy when we arrived inside seating was hard to come by, so we escaped to the outdoor seating area, which was a lot less chaotic.
A. L.
Very large services , with great choice of outlets , clean , good amount of parking , very modern and great seating areas . Also parks for the kids I would rather stop here than most around the country !
D. T.
It is a service station with a good selection of places to eat. Lots of parking and it is tidy and clean. A bit on the expensive side but that is the same for all motorway service stations
j. s.
used Valery patisserie inside and was really nice. not to crowded and for a service station was pretty good and clean. car parking was ok but petrol is expensive here.
J. M.
AKA Peterborough Services, and by far the best services on the A1 that I know of, which I know doesn't mean much for the A1 as most of them suck, but this one really is good. Every time I'm travelling back up to York from a photography job in London or Kent, about once a month at least, I will stop here for a break. Coming up the M11 from Kent I will even hold out longer to get to this place because it's better than others and only a two hour drive for me afterwards to York. Travelling North on the A1, there isn't another decent services until you get all the way to Wetherby, like 2 and a half hours away!
B. M.
Good place to stop journeying north or south.Have stayed here overnight 4 times, very comfortable beds. The services are right next door so you don't have far too go to eat
R. C.
very popular so always busy.all the usual motorway services facilities,
B. B.
Visited Eds Diner. Great for kids and those of us who like junk food. Substantial portions and best chocolate milkshake I've had in years.
J. s.
These services offer the best choice of food outlets in have seen.
You have a choice of McDonald's,KFC,EAST Diner,Marks & Spencer plus pasty place and Chinese and burritos
A. K.
One of the better motorway services I've been to. Nice large eatery with plenty of chain options. Clearly money being spent on the place still too..
D. M.
Standard extra motorway services. Prices are not hiked up like they are near London though so that's a plus. There's a fair selection of fat food options and a communal eating area. There is also a small (slightly run down) park outside and there's a old disused road where you can walk your dog (although I'm not sure if it's trespassing! )
D. R.
It's an Extra service station. Service is generally fine, speed of service is totally dependant on time of day. It's typically kept clean. Cash Machines are a complete RIP OFF.
N. H.
This used to be a good stop on the way south. Unfortunately everyone seems to think that so generally now avoid it as car park is very busy daytime and food court is packed.
S. R.
It's a good halfway point for us to cross to France. There is a choice of establishments and it's usually kept very clean. Free WiFi also.
A. M.
Services at the intersection of two major roads, this is a busy place. The central table area in the food court is always a little messy but the tables inside the individual cafes are better looked after
C. W.
Good array of different cafes but they know how to charge! Smiths the newsagent is best for a meal deal drink and sandwich.
S. B.
Many choices at this services, not many for vegetarians or vegans, but there is a Costa that is well stocked and has a large seating area.
J. H.
Your last chance to pay through the nose for your fuel and other bits and bobs. Make sure you fill up with fuel before you get this far. Other than that it's a typical last chance motorway service area.
A. H.
Quick stop off for toilet stop and to pick up snacks. Staff were slow at serving which was annoying as it wasn’t like people where buying bucket fills of things.
D. M.
only good if you really want to eat but prices are marked higher than high street and don't buy fuel from here at least 8p a litre more than high street and this is not even a motorway service station
l. t.
Fantastic service station. Has everything you could need for a quick stop. Food, drinks, toilet and other amenities. Would recommend if you're in the area and in need of a rest.
K. W.
Good sized car park could do with another couple of disabled bays, good clean toilets and good choice of eateries would take a break here again.
J. M.
Great choice of eateries, plenty of seating plus a 'hidden' area that shall remain secret!
Toilets acceptably clean.
G. S.
Well presented, plenty of car parking, some lovely shops with a good choice of refreshments. Clean, well sized toilets.
J. P.
Very convenient, and good facilities. They had a modern McDonald's and a KFC restaurant here, along with some quality coffee.
A. B.
It's clean and has lots of fast food options as well as Patisserie Valerie and M&S Simply Food. I hate the noise in these places but there's not much you can do about that.
R. J.
Laid out nicely with wheelchair access everywhere. Several services here to choose from. Only one disability toilet, so expect a wait. Very friendly staff in all services.
M. M.
Handy for a stop. Busy queuing and toilets were ok.
R. F.
Brilliant services, loads of choice, plenty of seating, a bit of a nuisance to get into around the junction. Services on that stretch of the A1 aren't great so this one stands out.
N. F.
This services has an excellent food court featuring numerous outlets, like KFC, McDonalds, M&S, Costas and others. Trust me, you will not starve!
G. W.
Busy service station with all the things you need and toilets are constantly being cleaned. Staff can be rude in the stores and the play areas is next to the car park and is not suitable for children.
J. “. B.
Great selection of eateries, the staff seemed to be keeping things clean. It wasn't perfect, but after all it's just a services.
B. O.
Food and toilets. Good stop for kids to stretch their legs and parents to rest. Great for other travelers too. Lots of different foods.
W. G.
Ok services. Public toilets available in the petrol station. Decent shop. Also american diner on same site.
S. C.
One of my regular stops with good options for a bite to eat. Good outside seating area and a nice place to sit and people watch after a long drive.
M. B.
Decent and clean motorway services, a welcome rest on a long journey. Plenty of fast food outlets for all but the fussiest of eaters.
B. A.
Really good selection of shops and restaurants. Used the Costa there. Only downside was that the prices were a little high on everything
J. N.
Really a beautiful place. It is a place to stop and have a quick bite. But I don't think there is a motel, which would really add up to the business.
J. R.
Lots of choice, various fast food outlets..
M. L.
The place is clean and the car park easy to navigate. Bonus points for having a McDonalds for cheap and cheerful coffee.
d. r.
Good place to stop off A1. Good choice of food outlets. Downside is you have to get out of car for Macdonalds.
G. T.
A very good site frendley staff good service and great range of products with good food
P. S.
Awkward car park is a good introduction to the place. Usual collection of cafes and a WH Smiths. Pot luck on their WiFi working.
P. D.
To be fair don't normally rate service stations but this one is good! Reminded me of the food courts you get abroad. Well done you
P. O.
Clean and tidy facilities
Van always get parking space considering very busy has petrol station on site.
c. h.
Great services, ideal location for me half way to relatives in London. It has grown in popularity and can be very busy now but not much else around this area
I. C.
Good place to charge an electric car, all charging places always free. Food to have - eat on place or take it away.
K. P.
Food court tables need cleaning, observed 2 cleaners chatting at waste area. Baby chairs are old / damaged and dirty. Eat our food in car as not very clean. Visited at around 6pm.
J. A. B.
Decent selection of food, coffee etc...
MnS, W H Smith, bakery / cafe, Chinese style noodle bar
Currently under renovation, I think so looking pretty shabby
M. S.
