Reviews of Lexden Wood Golf Club
S. T. R.
We just turned up and had a few bays in the driving range. 100 balls each and a hot drink included in the price, latte was made perfectly. Fun time had by all 7 adults for my sisters birthday. Stayed for drinks afterwards and a spot of lunch. The Margarita Pizza was delicious...
C. C.
A great place for yoga classes. Nice atmosphere, lovely studio, modern clean facilities. Own car park. Only criticism is the access road is rather narrow, winding, dark and prone to flooding.
T. E.
Bunkers need a lot of work. They’re like hitting from a concrete floor and too many stones in them as well. Greens also need some TLC. Contours on greens = good. Potholes = not so much. Fairways could do with a water. Could be a really nice course.
J. D.
Great experience, superb service and state of the art facilities.
Now a Member as have been so impressed with the condition of the course. It is immaculate. Look at photos from Thursday 15th July 21.
C. B.
Great customer service in the bar / restaurant. Course and greens in good condition. An enjoyable afternoon.
w. s.
Nice facilities, great to bring my girls to the driving range, nice seated area, great food at great prices. Relaxed atmosphere.
J. F.
Always a pleasant welcome. Very much a golf/gym centre rather than a traditional golf club. Course condition can be quite inconsistent (beyond what you would expect according to the season). Back 9 offers a greater range of golf holes with some great tees where you are hitting into the 'abyss '. Its a good test and certainly a decent walk.
B. W.
Good golf, great food and friendly staff what more could you want.
s. r.
Pleasant staff, reasonable prices for good food.
Golf course is a fair test, some interesting holes, have to mention that the bunkers should all be "Ground Under Repair". They lack bunkers sand, but have a good amount of stones.
W. E.
Good location, driving range is run down. Course ok
M. L.
Great restaurant, food really tasty. Course is ok bunkers full of stones so beware your clubs may get damaged. Play is very slow due to being very busy and no Course Marshall to ask slower players to step aside
M. M.
We took a group of 14 children to play footgolf. The footgolf course itself was good although the grass could of done with a cut. Footballs were in good condition and had mixed sizes for younger children. We took up the offer of footgolf and pizza. I was very impressed all of the pizza's were freshly made and tasted delicious and were served within good time. I was disappointed the offer didn't come with a drink included and that a jug of juice was £2.50 per jug. Also the pizzas had to be served in a buffet style sharing. With half of the pizza's coming out at a time because of the amount of children. So we needed extra plates which the waitress was very reluctant to give us.
C. G.
A very pleasant evening with a nice cold buffet. Attentive staff.
K. S.
Booked the pizza and round of foot golf for 6 boys . Unfortunately won’t take cash which wasn’t told to us when booked . Boys enjoyed game but trip was spoilt due to attitude of the ‘mature’ lady in restaurant. Firstly was very abrupt telling them “go back to reception if you want fizzy drinks this is a bar !” 3 of them wanted j20 and were tutted at when they explained this . Then she brought the pizzas over and as one of them tried to say who was having which she stated “well you can sort that out !” . She then came over to the 5 adults that were sitting on table behind and said “ can you ask them to stop shaking their drinks the gentleman on the next table don’t want to be covered in that “ - 2 had J2o , need shaking as fruit bits settle at bottom , 1 had a glass of water ( def not shaken ) 1 an empty coke bottle , 1 nothing and the last an appletize which again he had tipped upside down to mix but wouldn’t dared of allowed it to go over someone.
Clearly she wasn’t happy to be serving youngsters which is a shame as all other staff were welcoming.
This has put the boys off returning and considering the adults spent well over £100 on a 2hr game - we will def take our custom else where .

Lovely afternoon out playing crazy golf :)
D. H.
I was so excited to go here. Overall, a bit disappointed overall. Receptionist in the morning was really nice and helpful. The bloke on reception around 5pm was as miserable as you like. A couple of comments:
1. Greens were not in great shape.
2. Bunkers were empty. Literally no sand.
3. We teed off around 12.06 and got back for around 4 /5pm... restaurant already shut.... I mean surely surely a massive revenue generator.
4. Found the site / people a little bit clique...
5. 18 holes and hottest day of year... no water to buy on 9th hole... kiosk was shjt.
I'd probably go again but not for a while. I think Millers Barn (Clacton on sea) is a much better experience.
D. S.
Very decent facility, good driving range and not too expensive, 100 balls is around 7 pounds. Lots of parking space
M. H.
Did the crazy golf good fun
M. B.
Great cafe and golf practice facilities but the course when visited was not in the best of condition. Bunkers lacked sand and were very stony so beware your new clubs! Greens were recently maintained and also not in the best of condition (early April), they possibly improve as the weather warms up. A reasonable distance needs to be walked between some greens and tee's and some hills/slopes so consider a buggy if this presents an issue.
A. H.
Nice course but could do with some maintenance, tee boxes need tidying up and fairways could be better, greens ok tho and there are some nice holes. Staff friendly and polite. Enjoyed my day out, thankyou
T. S.
Fabulous friendly and helpful staff. Challenging and interesting course. Great setting and good value golf. One major issue though... Bunkers filled with builder's sand and hundreds of proper stones. Moved surface stones around ball, but due to being littered above and below, took horrible chunk out of brand new club. Makes for unplayable without creating a personal rule about lifting and placing ball... So not ideal.
A. P.
I have been here a few times with the 4N business meetings group. A very nice venue for this kind of booking. Very helpful staff looking after my roller banner over Christmas when I forgot it!. A great meal each time and always well presented. Easy access and plenty of parking on-site.
C. H.
Recommended by friends to visit and we where not disappointed! Me and my other half had such a good day out, staff where all very friendly and more than happy to show us how to play and show us around the facilities available. We had some lunch and the food was delicious! I was particularly impressed as I have to have a gluten free diet, I was surprised to see gluten free options on the menu and can honestly say it was the best gluten free burger bun I had ever tasted!
Can’t wait to return back soon!
D. A.
Only went to the driving range so no knowledge on the course. Lots of bays so no wait (went on a Friday afternoon, may be different on a weekend). The only fly in the ointment was a lack of rubber tee. When I went to the reception to get one, I was advised I had to buy one "due to coronovirus, we don't want to aid the spread", which makes zero sense as the balls were not sanitised, neither was the AstroTurf in the bays. Just seemed to be a rather unsubtle way to make more money...
N. p. n. c.
really friendly and helpful. not the cheapest driving range especially as you have pay extra for the tees for the mats. one consolation yours to keep.
N. M.
We went to Mighty Claws crazy golf they have on site. It's been open just over a year and is already starting to look a bit tired in places. For the price they charge I would have expected it to be a bit better maintained. Still good fun though.
J. H.
Played foot golf with grandson, great fun. Only 8 holes but allowed to go around twice, which was enough in the stifling heat!
S. L.
Foot Golf was a lot of fun on last visit. Facility is very well maintained. Will be going again and would recommend!
A. C. S.
We went and played mini golf. The course is pretty fun, with a few hazards like a jump and tunnels. The holes have a little map before each one showing optimal routes - a couple of them are on the wrong holes, which is a bit confusing. The dinosaurs are pretty good but I'm not super clear why it's dinosaurs AND ancient Romans - seems like you could have just picked one.
M. L.
Really nice golf course with a wide range of differing holes. Can be very wet after a lot of rain. Club house very busy as it doubles with a sports facility. Lots of kids at half term. Parking can be difficult.
P. M.
Great place for golf enthusiasts of any age. First class facilities, helpful and friendly staff.
C. M.
If you just want to drive a few golf balls on a range i recommend it. Friendly staff and loads of room! Reasonably priced and i always have to pop into the cafe after for a cheeky cake and one of the best hot chocs around
R. N.
Choose how many balls you want to smash, and you can hire a club too. Good value.
A. W.
Great fun on the footgolf.
R. M.
exciting outdoor space for crazy/mini golf
it has a driving range very close to it but has a net so balls from the range/crazy golf dont mix/ people dont get hurt.
there is a net if the ball accidently goes into the pool (which i managed to do)
breakfast/cafe is onsite
plently of parking
Caution needed to get there as roads can be narrow.
Driving to the place is advised.
staff was happy and ready to help
am yet to go on the courses themselves.
J. H.
Been several times for a round of football golf and crazy golf. This place is great for all ages and to go as a couple, family or groups. The pizzas and smoothies are well recommended.
M. W.
Nice venue, friendly staff.
L. G.
Have been to playgolf restaurant quite a few times and the food has been excellent and good value for money. The staff are also very helpful and polite.
M. D.
Good course and modern type clubhouse, with all facilities. Buggy hire available.
C. W.
American golf shop very good .
Ordered what we wanted got very quick.
D. K.
Fun dinosaur themed mini golf course which can get very busy so try to avoid peak times if possible.
The dinosaurs are very realistic so it may be best to avoid if you have very little ones who might get frightened, our 2 year old was scared of the raptors. Many very easy holes which are fun for little ones but offer little challenge for bigger ones.
Pro's:
* Amazing anamatronic dinosaurs which are very realistic and big.
* Easy holes which will entertain little ones and not lead to frustration
* Caved area to add to the diversity
Cons:
* Some holes are so easy it's hard not to get holein one
* Very busy at peak times, with queues to start, and half way through the course. This may easeas the course is less new.
* Dinosaurs could be scary to some
* No escape and return route, for children who need the toilet
* A long way from the club's toilets
We had a fun time and I would return in future years.
c. r.
I played here yesterday and it is a fantastic course. There are challenging doglegs and large undulating greens. The food is also amazing, i had the vesuvio pizza.
A. S.
An enjoyable game of golf, the course is in excellent condition, although many of bunkers are under repair at the moment.
S. G.
Good food coffee and golf range.
New trackman all working.
L. L.
Have been here a number of times, usually for events. The Amphora suite is a lovely venue but food is hit and miss. Service also varies hugely depending on staff.
a. c.
Good for the price the course isnt challenging but worth a visit.
L.
Nice place to visit. Great facilities and good staff. Only went on the driving range but thoroughly enjoyed the visit!
T. S.
With the club most likely being bombarded with questions and bookings I would just like to show my thanks to julie. Who has been most helpful and polite in answering all my questions and helping me get everything sorted :)
T. R.
The course needs to mature a little. The course isnt too difficult and varied enough that my 5 & 8 y/o enjoyed it and didnt get too frustrated
Loved the dinosaurs and animtronics
D. C.
Great fun although i thought it was a bit expensive compared to others. Site appeared to be put together rather hurridly. As several annoying hole defects around the course.
D. F.
Very nice driving ranges with heaters as well! Perfect for winter! Balls very affordable as well!
B. M.
A tough course, not what you would expect, different holes. Lots of walking between holes and the front holes can be a little noisy. Good clubhouse. Would recommend a visit
m. j.
Excellent golf range , good golf shop , good restaurant , poor pitch and putt, as for the coarse I have to break it up into 3 parts , first 5 holes are a great test of ability , great first and 2nd hole the 3rd a short par 3 with so much character , a good 4th and a real testing 5th , and a exquisite 6th .... That's kinda where it ends for me once you walk off the sixth and under the bridge its like walking into a totally different coarse , unexciting and not very memorable or thought out , shame .
P. J.
Very good and helpful 👍
R. H.
Nice facilities, only used the driving range so far, but seems fairly priced. Will defiantley be back to practice my swing
S. A.
Good dinosaur crazy golf. Good quality driving range. Has food, drink and full golf course. Good quality set up.
R. B.
Very good mini golf course for the family and reasonably priced. Variety of model dinosaurs with moving parts and great fun.
B. D.
Nice long walk for me being 85years old so will get buggy next time
A. D.
The football golf was really difficult, the ball just keeps rolling down hills, even with great accuracy. Very cheap and fun.
k. w.
Great time had by our grandchildren on the driving range
N. D.
Great place for pitch and putt, driving and kick golf. Unfortunately on this occasion the staff in the coffee shop were not quick or attentive
A. B.
Great venu for whacking balls from the driving range or learning the ropes from excellent tutors or having a bite to eat, plus everything else to do with the great game of golf.
d. g.
Great service brilliant staff fantastic atmosphere
P. M.

Good challenging course. Gym, restaurant and American golf shop on site. Bunkers a little stony otherwise brilliant.
M. C.
Considering the recent weather course looking good, greens running slow but in good condition.
A. C.
Golf course average for this time of year. Very hot but normally very good. Food average to below average
E. A.

A. C.

J. S.
