Reviews of Ramside Golf Club
S. H.
A gem of the North East. The Ramside hosts 2 great golf courses which are superbly kept. The Prince Bishops, a slightly harder course than the Cathedral course.
The staff are first class and it's nice to settle and relax after a round in the clubhouse where the food is delicious.
D. B.
Usually we play the PB course but because of a charity event we had to play the Cathedral course, a course I played some 10 / 15 years ago when it was new, then it seem too long but I decided to try it again, perhaps maturing may improve my opinion, but the afternoon was a catalogue of problems :-
First on arrival for our prebooked tee time we were told it was actually 2.5 hours earlier, however we were fitted in 30 mins after our prebooked tee time.
The first tee was 170 yards further forward than its true position & we had to tee off on a raised "winter tee" with artificial grass.
For the walk from the 2nd green to the 3rd tee you need abuse service as it must be close to half a mile.
A long walk was mirrored on future holes from greens to tee albeit it not half a mile but still a long way.
Then on the 17th hole, a Par 4, approx 430 yards long withe water left and trees right YOU ARE PROHIBBITED FROM USING A DRIVER OR A 3 WOOD...has anyone ever known anything as ridiculous on a golf course.
Least to say I won't be going back, there are far better courses around the Durham area tat allow the golfer to choose what club they prefer to tee off with.

Lovely course only to be recommended some testing holes staff at club were great

This is by far one of the best clubhouses I’ve visited in the local area with fantastic facilities, a brilliant club shop and some of the food served here is really to a high standard. Some great perks as well with becoming a member! If your in the local area and are looking for a great north east/ Durham course don’t look any further than this place!

Beautiful course well looked after and great prices plus drinks delivered on course
S. N.
Prince Bishop course is great but the clasic 18th hole has been spoilt by lodges built forcing tee box to be moved
G. H. (. &. P. G.
Playing there again very soon but the prices for buggies are ridiculous when your paying for a weekend break these should be reduced
G.
Did not use the golf facilities. The spa, hotel and restaurants were excellent.

Challenging layout, made you think about the shot. Only spoilt by players not repairing pitchforks and raking bunkers.

Last time I played the Prince Bishop course was about 4 years ago. Always found it a challenging but enjoyable course. Today was another enjoyable experience in spite of the extensive drainage work that has been done. The course is always well presented and although the greens were a little slow they were still true. The atmosphere in the clubhouse is more commercial than most golf clubs I've visited. Probably because it is run as part of the hotel complex. Nevertheless it is very well appointed and always welcoming. Well worth a visit.

Brilliant weekend golf highly recommend

Cathedral my favourite here, long and challenging.
R. H.
Brilliant round of golf really enjoyed the day and a few beers after
K. H.
Atmosphere was great, staff were excellent. Club House was extremely busy due to club having hosted major charity even but tables were kept clean, staff very attentive. Enjoyed the experience
W. H.
Excellent venue and golf facilities. A very enjoyable and safe visit, and on the long golf Course! Had an enjoyable meal in the Carvery.
W. W.
Great greeting from the helpful friendly staff. Golf course is in excellent condition. Thoroughly enjoyed the round on the Cathedral course. Will have to return to play the Prince Bishop's in due course.

Ramside Hall has a number of places to eat, and they have different characters. The golf Pavillion serves very nice bar meals, not too many calories but tasty and satisfying. All are especially prepared (so there might be a 20 minute preparation time) and it shows in the fresh tastes and ambition.
Does that make it 5*?
What makes it 5* are the staff! Alison spilled her coffee. They couldn't have been nicer! Quick to get a cloth on it and clear it up, appearing moments later with a fresh cup, all done discreetly (not embarrassing) and calmly (reassuring).
Some restaurants in Ramside Hall may feel a bit 'traditional', but the golf club is fresh and lovely

The course has always been a fantastic layout and challenging, bit wet today and the greens were hollowtined recently it'll be back up to 5 stars in no time...

Although my friend is a golfer we just met for coffee. Everything was perfect, all new rules adhered to.
R. S.
For the amount of time the course has been closed, you would have thought the greens would've been better
A. K.
Excellent condition and a damn good test, plenty of water to make you think. We played the easiest course of the two and it was still tough
P. B.
