Reviews of Palacerigg Golf Club

For a public course you will be hard pushed to find a better one.
Course is a mixed bag some long holes with plenty fairway but if you miss it then goodbye golf ball.
Its a very frustrating course as living in the abronhill area all my life ive played this course in all weathers and for many many many years. The course was let go for a bit but they are now getting it back to its best. A few issues i have is the club house or lack of should i say. No beer no food nothing.
The staff are absolutely amazing nicer people you will not meet George and Carol know this course inside out and are lovely people. The green keepers well if thats what you call then need to really take the job more seriously or move on as the state of the greens has been a problem the last 10 years. One guy is very good Adam but the rest need the sack.
The views on a good day are absolutely stunning. The course could do with some water features after all its not like the nature rain we get would keep them filled up 😂.
But the big issue i now have is the cost, £13 a midweek round isn't bad but considering the rough needs really cut back the greens need looking at and rather than fill in bunkers to save money why not put a pond liner in and make them a water feature and or turn the tee box into an artificial grass box as they are shocking all year round and this wouod over time save cash.
As a whole this is a very good course not to long not to hilly but has plenty for the not so good golfers to deal with but not enough to put you off.
The stand out holes are the 5th hole long par 4 with a road a burn and plenty bunkers to tun it into a 6 or 7 stroke hole... If you me that is.
6th hole a lovely short par 3 a wedge to a large green but look out bunkers to the left and right.
8th hole is a longer simpler type hole but zero room for errors as left and right of a tight fairway will leve you an almost impossible shot and DON'T over shoot the green as heavily roughed leaves a very tricky shot.
14th lovely short par 4 over the road but well bunkered to left and used to be one right and 2 either side of the green. Again 2 to the green leaves a good birdy chance.again dont over shoot the green as the rough is as rough as pine road 😂😂
The 18th is a lovely long tee shoot up the hill aim to the left of the fairway bunker leaves you a better approach shot to the large green for me its a 3 most days to the green. But again bunkers surround the green.
Enjoy and if the weather its bad i suggest not playing. Early morning play requires plenty midge repellant lol as does anytime after 6.30 at night. I have warned you the midges in palacerigg will not only eat you they will steal your wallet. 😂😂

Staff are nice and helpful.
Course is under maintenance at the moment. Should be great when done.
Big negative is people skipping on as this slows play quite a bit and there is a lot of it happening.

Great wee course... made alot of improvements this year.. SMASH THEM BALLS 🎯

Course improvements this year... bunker works (still in progress) are excellent. Also much needed work on connecting pathways in progress. Friendly welcoming staff. Food and drink back soon.

Nice place for a walk but they could place benches or similar for people to have a wee 5 min. rest along the route. We walked 90mins but some people who are fond of walking but need a rest every so often would welcome somewhere to sit and catch their breath.

Punishing rough if you’re unlucky enough to find it but fairways are very generous so shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
The only issue with the course, as with many others, is drainage. If you’re wise you’ll invest in a pair of waterproof golf boots. They really pay dividends after your initial outlay.

The staff are very friendly and professional the golf course is fantastic and not to many hill's so all ages can play they also have some buggies a great place.

Good golf course, value for money, gets very boggy in the winter.

To much grass cuttings lying on Fairway also greens are a bit rough and it's a because of the Coronavirus and been furloughed and green keepers not working as it was a very good course
R. S.
Great to be back, but the deletion of bunkers on, especially, the 7th and 18th is to the detriment of the course. Come on NLL, what's going on?
