Reviews of Golf At Oulton Hall

Great 27 hole golf course that has improved throughout this year, unfortunately some of the tees are bare soil and need repair over winter
D. G.
Great course some very interesting holes and one of those courses you have to play a second time.
S. H. (.
Disappointing sadly. Course is a great layout with 27 holes giving varied options. However tees were appalling. Was like teeing up in a bunker and very uneven. Bare patches everywhere. I overheard the green keeper in the car park, he was walking with young daughter and bragging to her that he'd cut all 27 greens in a record 3.5 hrs and it was going up on 'the board'. His lack of care showed, bumpy uneven greens.
The clubhouse provided poor slow service, I was at bar alone with 3 staff behind. Two just walked off, leaving the manager just inches from me doing something at the till. He finished then walked off, leaving me without service. Appalling!
Poor value for money in my opinion, none of our large party will be returning.

My first time playing golf and it’s a fantastic club it very nice how people are friendly and staff are excellent service .

Fantastic friendly venue with an immaculate course.
Try it you will not be disappointed.

The hotel and facilities are nice. Rooms decent size. The breakfast wasn't great at all, despite being there at 8am for the first seating. We went to play the golf course for friends 40th. The course is OK, greens aren't in good condition, I've seen better municipal ones.
Overall the £50 a round charge is way too much. Overall just ok but wouldn't rush back.

A great location with friendly staff - great spa and golf course. Would recommend a meal in the Claret jug with great views of the golf course..A must for that romantic weekend away..!
J. S.
Enjoyed the course in blistering heat over the last 2 days only downside was staffing levels at claret jug and the hotel. Felt like we were constantly queueing. Staff tried their best but odds stacked against them
A. B.
Easy to pay and play at the driving range. Lots of space and in decent knick. Inexpensive and not stuffy. Plenty of bays and a chipping / putting area with bunker. Wasn't pristine so 4 stars rather than 5

Used to love playing this course before hotel took over it and started over charging and for the points system of membership mmmmmm. Who ever thought of that idea
P. S.
Looking forward to a good relationship with the team who run the club

Played here today (30/08/19) for the first time in about 7/8 years, and I've got to say it disappointed. The golf course could be so much better as it has a decent layout, and a good variety of holes.
Sadly today we found the greens and tee boxes to be in poor conditions. The greens were long, fluffy and slow, and rarely did you get a true roll. The tee boxes too were poor, struggling to get an even stance on some due to bare patches and divets.
It's a real shame too, because this place has great facilities in terms of the clubhouse and pro shop, and is in a great setting.

Bit over priced for the condition of the coarse.Pace if play excellent

I always enjoy my golf at outlon because it is a very picturesque course with views over the surrounding areas. The course is interesting and provides a good test of golf. WIth 27 holes there is variation to the golf each time you play. Oulton Hall golf course is nice course and could be great but the hotel seems to be reluctant to invest in it. The greens are OK but need attention. The tee boxes need attention too as they are bare and not level in many cases. The fairways a in good condition but then bunkers are neglected. The marshalls and green keepers did a lot of work during lockdown to tidy up and make improvements but there is much more that could be done.
Please oulton hall manage this course better!

Stayed for weekend and had 3 rounds on all 27 holes. Great idea to vary the 18 by alternating different 9s on different days.
Considering the weather before we were there the course was in good condition.
The staff in the clubhouse and starters are all very friendly and helpful. I would recommend a visit.

DON'T LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR VEHICLE. I stayed at the hotel a couple of weeks ago, and received a phone call at 5.30am from hotel reception to give me the the news that my car had been broken into in the carpark, despite there apparently being cctv and hourly patrols by hotel staff. A full set of golf clubs plus waterproofs and everything else you carry in your bag was taken along with my travelling companion's gear. Best part of £3000 of gear gone plus damage to car ,not to mention the inconvenience. Fortunately the pro shop managed to cobble together a couple of sets for us to use for the rest of our stay. As for the remainder of our stay I found the course to be an interesting layout, although some areas were a bit scruffy, in particular the tees, and the bunkers weren't the best. We dined in the Claret Jug and found the food so so. We had the carvery the first evening and the beef was still breathing and as tough as old boots. The rooms were well equipped and comfortable. The highlight of the stay was probably the staff, they were excellent. Friendly and attentive. I would return, but would take my clubs out of my car and avoid the beef. P.S. I during a conversation with a gentleman in the carpark he told me that he also had clubs stolen from his vehicle last year and I've subsequently learned from a couple of sources that these aren't isolated instances at this venue. That being the case I feel the hotel should make a greater effort to warn guests about leaving valuables in vehicles .

Driving range is really good, I like to walk in thinking I'm the next Rory McIlroy but after 10 minutes of hitting balls, I've probably damaged my muscles and shouted fore right 20 times, glad I haven't played the course yet, but the driving range is a good facility.

Not used the hotel side yet. Golf course very good. 27 holes. A few straightforward holes but in the main a thinkers course. Driving range is a standard range. Reasonable sized short game area attached. Club shop is mid sized with a reasonble stock quantity. The Claret Jug is a very nice 19th hole with a good selection of alcoholic drinks, hot drinks and soft drinks also available.
P. B.
Course has dried well after all the recent rain. Greens playing quite well. On the down side, some bunkers were deemed GUR due to the wet heavy conditions but several others should have also been deemed GUR. Overall we had a good day out.

A fantastic place to play golf! Well maintained fairways and greens. There are 27th holes so a round can be mixed to keep things interesting. There is a driving range with plenty of bays as well as a putting green and chipping area. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because a round can be quite expensiven.
G. M. G.
Great golf coaches 👌🏼
G. T.
Used the driving range. Well maintained. Ball dispenser takes contactless cards so no need to carry cash. Cost is £2.50 per basket of 25. 10p per ball feels a little expensive.
S. d.
Not bad but course is in dire need of tlc. Untidy in some areas great in others. Greens a little rough and heavily pitch marked, which unfortunately is familiar with hotel run tracks.
Fantastic 19th & well stocked Pro shop tho, which is familiar with hotel run tracks... You get my drift.
P. J.
Course is open and playable but in honesty it should be closed to let it recover. It also seems like no one knows how to repair a pitch mark. I would wait to play it when the weather gets better especially if you are paying a green fee
R. N.
Used the driving range, its ok but in need of an upgrade. Tees broke, mats really worn.
More targets would be nice.
But the practice area at the side is good.
S. T.
Back nine needs work at the moment, the greens are patchy and uneven. The clubhouse facilities are a bit grubby, used tissues and no bin a loose tap. It was very high standard. Not any more.
J. C.
The driving range could do with a little TLC tees avaliable to hit from are here and there 4 bays I tried the heaters didn't work, there is an RC models shop in the car park which is something quirky and different.
P. N.
Came here for the weekend 24 guys to play golf the staff were awesome the course was great apart from a couple of tees but just a great time well done the girls working in the claret jug bar
P. S.
good golf course something for everyone the bar and restaurant are in severe need of updating and looking a bit shabby food is a bit overpriced but overall I would highly recommend Oulton Hall as a Golf Course as I say there is a good golf course with plenty of variety of holes
L. C.
Had a hot stone massage, was lovely, staff really friendly. Just weird having to wear a mask throughout
T. L.
The condition of the course left a lot to be desired, especially the 19 to 27 holes. The hotel and food were excellent.
K. B.
very professional service and the course is in excellent condition given the early summer 18 lack of rain. also twilight rates at £15 for 18 is very reasonable
F. J.
Golf course not up to standard .bunkers were terrible .🏌♂️
D. B.
Average, no staff insight. Automated ball dispenser, no baskets but bays available, unorganised, and shabby in places.
A.
Very busy. Some interesting holes. Best to go in a group rather than a two ball.
W. E.
Very enjoyable stay. Hotel wonderful. Golf course nice layout but needs some manicuring
A. E.
Hotel and services great golf course good layout but greens and bunker disgraceful. Sad
J. H.
