Reviews of Chingford Golf Course
D. S.
For a course that has a public right of way with dog walkers dotted about, it isn't the horror story that some similar courses are, but it also isn't necessarily a lot better than others. I do enjoy playing here, but there is a lack of any signature holes. Just one hole that makes you go "Wow" would be nice. Still, it is decent value and tee times are usually available if you book early enough.
J. M.
Pleasantly surprised with the quality of this course for a municipal course. Quite a few dog walkers but nothing that causes issues. Greens were in good nick, tough positioning. Nice variation in the holes.
J. P.
Great public course and good value for money. Not a very long course, but challenging enough to make you think of shot choice. Greens were in good condition in October and considering the dry summer we just had.
M. M.
Played 72 holes in 2 days .Had some tough holes with blind tee shots but nice greens. Great food at the little restaurant. Also easy to get on during weekdays.

We use the golf course for walking. Goes in and out of forest areas and course we'll maintained. Just respect the golfers

Course is in great condition. Ridiculously good value for money and some of the greens/pin positions are very challenging.
S. R.
Not a bad course, reasonable for the price. I paid £10 for a twilight round. Greens were in pretty good condition. The biggest fault with this course is that there were a lot of people walking dogs, walkers talking casual strolls down the middle of fairways on thier phones or walking with prams. On the 2nd hole I had to tee off with a couple having a picnic down the left side of the fairway about 175 yards down! Luckily my driver carried it enough to clear them.

I often go for a walk here and have felt drawn of late to take up golf when everything reopens. This course looks lovely and well maintained, so I'll see you there sometime this summer.
C. L.
Great course for the money. It’s in great condition currently and isn’t too hard so ideal for casuals or beginners.
P. L.
Nice municipal course in quite good condition. Greens can be very difficult and the many bumps on fairways are challenging. But it's a good price and enjoyable course.

The enforced lockdown due to COVID-19 has been a bit of a blessing for golf courses around Essex (and probably elsewhere). This place was a good example. Fairways were lush and the greens were immaculate. Just wish I had played as well as the course deserved. Good value for money.

Great golf course..£10 twilight ticket
m. s.
Really nice course for the money well maintained
S. S.
This is a great course spoilt by poor maintenance, issue with being owned by the council, and inconsiderate members of the public. However the cost to play there is low, the golf staff especially Luke are nice, and it is really near the centre of London.
There have been a couple of times normally in the middle of a weekday in the autumn or spring where the quality of the course matches the great layout and there is no one around. If you are lucky to get a day like that then the course easily becomes the best one in the surrounding Essex. It is just very very rare.

Started my golf life here and learnt the game on this course everyday for a while so I know it back of my hand hole for hole..I love it for the comfy side of being on my doorstep and it’s quiet. Actually a great layout course, quiet challenging but easy in areas. A very good course. However I would give this a 5 star BUT it needs more love. Some more bunkers for sure maybe water ponds etc. It Defo needs small attention to detail to make it so much more appealing like number tee posts each hole, cleaning boxes, wood chip paths, things like that to make it pretty and appealing but not costly to achieve. The Value is fine expect sometimes £25/30 is steep for the quality for attention to detail. The tee boxes could be far better the Flag post could be solid. They could easily make it better in many little ways but seems like there isn’t enough care. Maybe even role the greens off or along some fairways. Generally make the golf course stand out more to the general forest and field area. Maybe then the public and golfers will care more.
This course could be rammed most of time if it was private for sure and more love/money spent. However that’s prob impossible for the owners to achieve private status. shame !!

Really enjoyed playing this course. Easily accessible from London. Was in good condition and the holes seemed quite spacious and tree lined. Definitely an old fashioned public course, with a 'caff' clubhouse, but can't fault it for the price. We even hired left handed clubs for a very reasonable amount

Not a golf fan. Friends enjoy coming here though. Near Holly Trail Cafe and Epping Forest. Free parking.
M. L.
Not bad. Price ok. Distance markings are very poor, only 100 and 150 yards almost under grass. Makes game difficult for a visitor and dangerous. I got a ball near me on 16 on the first day and hit mine with one to the green second day, sorry guys. Only birdie.
H. P.
A great golf course, not too long in length but you can easily go round scoring higher than your handicap if your club choice is off. Best place to be on a summers day. Kept in good condition, not many bunkers.
L. C.
I was reluctantly dragged around this course by my other half who thought it would be an interesting way to keep fit. In all fairness he was right, it was a nice day if a bit windy and it did provide a few laughs along the way. I agree with the other comments about sign posts as surley they do some that don't stick out like a sore thumb but saying that if they blended in too well then we probably wouldn't see them LOL
I. G.
Good public course. Not the longest but usually well maintained and enjoyable. Be aware of local tournaments though as this can put your 2 ball round into the 5 hour mark which is not on.
S. P.
Great little course, tight fairways make it a challenge.
A. G.
Good course, decent variation across all 18 holes.
Fairways and greens in decent shape for the up coming winter
T. W.
I had a really good game of golf
The course was well looked after and the greens were fast on some greens and I enjoyed having to think about how to approach the greens. I haven't played here before but thoroughly enjoyed it.
T. D.
Just played today and the course has improved massively with the heavy rain. Only saw two other golfers and not too much joe public! Only cheap and pay and play so cant go wrong here really.
D. B.
Nature at its best. Perfect for a walk with the family or for cycling.
Easy routes provided. Some beautiful scenery. Connaught waters a highlight. Some fab wildlife too
I. S.
It's OK. Well. Maintained but far too. Many people who were not golfers walking on greens and having picnics in the middle of the fairway
L. A.
An average golf course but always good value. It's quite challenging and us usually in reasonable condition.
T. J.
Really great value for money
L. V.
A good course, but quite dry fairways after the warm weather and a lot of bounce and run.
M. G.
Great course....considering its got two golf club and is also pay and play...the course and greens are in great shape...definitely worth a visit.
N. P.
Greens in excellent condition for the time of year. Great midweek value for us over 60s just a tenner!
D. H.
Good for intermediate beginners golf, always on grass tees all year and no temps
A. E.
Great course - affordable and challenging enough for a testing round.
J. W.
Love this course, great value, lovely greens and really friendly course
l. d.
Perhaps it's time to close it and return it to nature, become part of Epping Forest again?
J. E.
In quite good nick for a course owned by the Corporation of London. Loads of dog walkers, which can be irritating as they walk across fairways and such carefree.
C. T.
Good flat course, hardly any bunkers.
I. C.
Great course, brilliant value for money and easy to get to from central london.
Thanks!
K. M.

Challenging course, woodland setting, some greens need some tlc, but it has been hot recently.
G. M.
Only went for the cafe, they used to a great breakfast, but sadly it's not what it used to be. Shame!! 😠
