Reviews of Sprowston Manor Golf Club
J. L.
Enjoyed our one nights stay, especially loved gas fire place by the restaurant with two well placed chairs next to, was nice to warm up. Room was very spacious, creaky floorboards.
Only cons was that swimming pool wasn't working because of burst pipe and Canadian women football team having a party under our room until midnight.
Changing rooms lockers need improving, but over loved hairdryers and even hair straighteners provided. Used spa facilities (sauna and steam rooms, jacuzzi) twice, on the arrival and following day once we checked out. Was lucky not to have busy times while using these facilities
P. E.
Worth a visit, we stayed Sunday / Monday Bed breakfast evening meal + 2 games of golf, value for money, like everywhere the fairways have suffered from the weather and greens were slow compared to previous visits, hotel and evening meal was good.

Can't recommend this place highly enough! They were brilliant from start to finish. The restaurant is lovely, the food was absolutely gorgeous. Breakfast was great. We stayed in the bar after dinner and had a drink which was very reasonably priced. There were lots of extra measures in place because of covid and we left really relaxed about everything during our stay. Couldn't bet value for money either. The restaurant was really accommodating for my food intolerances aswell, love the whole place we will definitely be back.
I. W.
Pleasant but not 4 star. Interior is looking a bit run down, I wouldn't advise staying in summer because the rooms have no air conditioning. Breakfast is ok, but again not 4 star. The pool and wellness facilities are very nice.
V. V.
Beautiful old building, sadly receptionist chewing gum! Laundry stacked at bottom of staircase to bedrooms. Extremely hot in corridor facing spa. Meal first evening was brilliant and great service, unfortunately not the same the following day. As the menu is the same daily it would be great to introduce one additional special each evening for people staying for longer.
p. m.
Just used the practice facilities today. Good driving range and plenty of bays. Made use of the chipping and putting green also. Excellent place to get to early and run through a few things before you play your round.
G. F.
Overall a nice hotel, facilities were good. Food in restaurant was good. Rooms vary in size so it seems a bit of a lottery when you're paying the same, but it is an old building in parts.
J. E.
First time back since playing the Trilby Tour. Played almost as bad as last time 🤣
Course conditions (particularly greens) weren't at the standard, of say Hanbury Manor, but how much of that is down to the weather is hard to say.
Not a fan.

Big and beautiful hotel. My family and I visited just after they came out of the lockdown; so there were some minor and understandable issues with door locks, light bulbs and bathroom sink taps that were looked into once reported.
However, it has large and lovely grounds, good food and very lovely, spacious, comfortable and nicey furnished rooms. The windows let in enough light ensuring that the rooms are always bright. Love the bathrooms too. There's a golf course on the premises that you can use, but you might need to register to become a member of the golf club. They have a great looking pool and jacuzzi that were closed for now due to Covid-19. They are still kept clean and inviting. Health and safety requirements are being observed and the rooms were deep cleaned prior to the arrival of guests.
The operations/facilities manager is very friendly and helpful.
This hotel is just lovely. I would highly recommend and definitely visit again.
c. W.
Beautiful grounds ,friendly helpful staff , fantastic covid protection around the hotel . Beds very comfy room spotless
C. B.
Great for golf. See my other review if you want an honest opinion of the hotel.
C. B.
Very nice place friendly staff and great surroundings
G. C.
Nice hotel, but the restaurant looks like its not been decorated for about 20 years. The food was pretty unimpressive. The pool, steam room and sauna were excellent. We stayed in a suite which was nice but there were a lot of stains on the curtains and sofa. Our room has a safe and a nice cold fridge but no robes
EV charge points
one was out of order and I couldn't get the other one to work
The Tesla points seemed OK because there were 2 teslas using them
L. S.
A comfortable stay, beds are nice and soft and rooms a good size. Breakfasts are worth it and lovely interiors, I couldn't use the pool as unfortunately children were running riot and there was no one to maintain any rules.
A. S.
Not massively impressed. It was more like a jumped up premier inn. The pool area was nice but instead of closing 3/4 of it for length swimmers (all 2 of them) restrict it to set times so the larger majority of families with kids can use the pool instead of all being crushed in one corner. The food is overpriced. £10 for 2 scallops. Just ridiculous. It's was glorified pub grub. I would not expect a venue called a "Manor" to have a section of it's restaurant menu dedicated to food you can eat with your hands. Massive confusion over the booking process. Not only were the rooms booked incorrectly on arrival (despite all details being confirmed over the phone previously) the restaurant tables were booked incorrectly too. BUT despite the screaming errors that could easily be fixed, the staff were a credit to the hotel. Very pleasant and helpfull and accommodating. The beds were also very comfortable. Unless I have to I will not be going back again.
J. C.
A great driving range with plenty of covered space, beautiful views and heaters for the winter months. The nearby clubhouse has a good selection of drinks (including Starbucks coffee) and food after you've hit a few balls out.
The course itself looks very well kept though I haven't had the pleasure of playing it yet myself.
R. R. I.
This hotel is a gem in the Norfolk countryside and incredibly useful as a base to visit the Norfolk broads and surrounding Norfolk attractions. The swimming pool is excellent and this is a great place to bring kids for the weekend.
K.
Beautiful manor, free use of the pool, sauna and steam room for all guests, and lovely sized rooms. Nice front desk staff
S. V.
not a bad venue, thought the price of a round of golf could be cheaper as all these venues need custom
I. J.
I am a member at the golf course but have not been to the hotel so cannot give an opinion on the Hotel although the course is good 👍
T. S.
Big golf ground..good for golf
But hotel needs cleaning and air freshner
J. B.
Great facilities, friendly and attentive staff and a wonderful large room in which we stayed :)
T. R.
Papa johns are there more than the guests
But never to busy
S. T.
The club was well-presented greens running fine and Fairways and rough cut well not a bad cost to play challenging in places and enough traps to keep you interested,
G. I.
Nice friendly staff, rooms are clean, no complaints from me.
M. H.
Friendly people good food it's a shame they don't do food or drink during the day 🙂
r. w.
Impressive place, both in and out. However, it may well have been on the moon. No mobile signal (3 or O2 or EE) and after about 19:30 the Internet becomes slow slow I couldn't even connect to run a speed test. Guess they've never heard of Contention.
B. A.
Perfect place for a scale from the city, great facilities with a full golf course, swimming pool and many other things. Food is great.

We had a great stay at Sprowston Manor and I found everything to be absolutely lovely. Everwhere was scrupulously clean and well-maintained. The decor was calm and fresh and the bed was incredibly comfortable. I often struggle to sleep when I am away, but I slept well here. Our room was called a 'standard' double, but the bed was enormous and the room was very spacious and quiet, with a great bathroom. Staff were all friendly and helpful and during this stay, we opted to have breakfast. It was tasty and I was able to get options that suited my allergies. The leisure facilities were great - the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were lovely and you can relax by the side of the pool for hours if you have the time. The golf facilities look very good too, but we didn't play golf during our stay. I have been aware of this hotel for many years, but it was the first time I have stayed here and it didn't disappoint. I hope to stay here again.
B. M.
I am a leisure member. Happy with it, nice clean pool and lovely staff
C. L.
Very nice presented course one bonus its reasonably flat
P. W.
The location is beautiful. The staff friendly. We were unable to book into the restaurant as it was full. So can't give any indication of the dining food. Breakfast has to be booked daily. I had breakfast this morning but all the tables were dirty with left breakfast dishes. I had to get my own cutlery. The breakfast is a total self help set up. The tables were normally set up with cutlery and napkins.
The hotel has a 18 hole golf course and a well appointed leisure facility with steam and dry saunas and a swimming pool with jacuzzi type pool.
J. M.
Very pet friendly. Separate area in dining room for owners and dogs!
Helpful friendly staff.
Nice golf course and bar.
Lots of parking.
Pity no lunch offered at all, not even a sandwich.
Would return.
No room service at the moment.
D. P.
Stayed here 26yrs ago,had a fabulous time, returned with my family 8 of us, we had room 502 with God on the top floor,my daughter had room 506 with a boarded up broken window, both rooms dreadful, my shower had to be repaired, water regulator valve not working,so water hot or scolding, but, the staff were brilliant especially the bar/restaurant supervisor and the kitchen staff, having a grandchild of 6 who is a celiac both the chefs were wonderful taking time to talk with her to arrange her meals, can't thank them enough, it made our stay even with the disappointment of our rooms. With a better room would visit again due to the very brilliant staff.
S. M.
5 stars for the golf course. 2 for the hotel. Beautifully cared for course which is fun to play. The hotel is run down. The spa/poor are usually shut because something broke. The service and food quality are poor.
K. P.
My sons wedding was held there yesterday, it's a wonderful setting for a wedding. The rooms are luxurious, the food was imaginative and the function room beautiful xx
I. O.
Good hotel to spend the weekend relaxing and playing golf. The restaurant is good too.
A. C.
Lovely hotel staff great beds nice and comfortable great night sleep
D. J.
Hotel grounds staff and room along with pool and Spa excellent. Not so the dining experience breakfast was tepid to cold. No faculties for good or drink in hotel though there was a clubhouse that did snacks. Dinner was delicious but waited 45 minutes for main course we skipped starters asked if they had any dry sparkling white wine and was offered a spritzer which was awful. Another waiter asked if we wanted more drinks and brought a wine list and there was a prosecco on the menu which we had. Staff very young and no one appeared to be in managerial role around hotel or in dining room felt quite sorry for staff as they were trying very hard. We skipped breakfast the next morning as we wanted to get home for freshly cooked hot breakfast. It's such a shame as the potential is great but apparently been recently bought by Brittania group so no longer as good as previous owners. Doubt will go back
J. A.
What a lovely day for golf and course in top condition.
P. B.
Just had a wonderful golf break at Sprowston Manor. Given covid rules are still on place, the staff were super helpful and friendly, doing everything they could to make our stay enjoyable.
The evening meal and breakfast were very good. Just make sure you book.
The room was clean.
The spa facilities looked really nice.
The golf course was in excellent condition. If I lived near there I would be very happy to play the course regularly. A good test.
Thanks again to all the staff
A. K.
Husband and I went for a romantic night away. This is exactly what we got from the minute we walked in this idealic setting. Grounds are simply beautiful. We enjoyed a lovely walk after tea around the grounds. Food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them. The room was perfect. Spotless as well. Bed was massive and very comfortable. Had all the facilities you would expect and more. The bathroom was a very good size, very clean and shower was lovely. Will definitely be staying there again.
p. a.
Would certainly visit here again. Staff very friendly. The hotel is a Spa and Golf course. Very Close to varies places of interest. Be aware that due to covid their are no coffee facilities in the room you have to ask reception for them. Also we were there three days so the room is sealed when you get there but the rooms are not cleaned in between your stay. Their also was no toiletries in the room so be aware of this. You have to booked the swimming pool which we did before we arrived.
c.
Nice hotels, good food.
T. R.
Staff could not have been more helpful. Considering that we have had covid and they are only now getting back into dealing with guests again, and still having to stick to so many new rules, they did amazingly. Will be back in the new year. Thank you for making my stay special
T. T.
Lovely hotel but the breakfast was poor never enough eggs the food was cold there was no atmosphere in the restaurant the spa was great my massage was very nice a bit disappointed that there was no treatments on .sundays.
D. M.
Stayed here for a local wedding.
The hotel is beautiful!
Incredible set of amenities. The pool looked great, but unfortunately we didn't have time to try it out.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was superb!
If I'm ever in the area again, we will absolutely be staying here again
D. J. I.
Brilliant golf club. I've just started and found the staff to be very pleasant. The drive range is excellent and the facilities are clean and welcoming. Looking forward to some 9 and 18 hole games. Highly recommended for all playing levels.
R. T.
I've not stayed overnight myself but I've been to various functions including weddings and work conferences. Each time, the staff have been most helpful and accommodating, the food is fantastic and the atmosphere of the place is relaxing and dry well kept. My brother stayed overnight for his wedding and said it was brilliant.
S. D.
Checked into a very small room with a ventilation shaft just outside window, for 3 night stay. Receptionist helpfully moved us when we brought this to her attention. Thereafter no issues.
I. W.
Great venue, average service.
G. S.
Lovely room, very big, if a bit tired, but very clean. Staff hit and miss, except Lauren on reception who couldn't do enough for the guests and was wonderful. We were not informed that the restaurant was fully booked before our arrival, so we had to pay to travel somewhere in a taxi or order takeaway to be delivered to the hotel. We ended up going out for a curry to the Merchants of Spice in Norwich. Our meal there was totally amazing, fresh, great staff and friendly service. On the whole, we might go back, but not definitely.
R. R.
Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights, lovely place, rooms, grounds and great helpful staff. The fact you have to pay a ridiculous amount to be able to get internet in your room is a bit unheard of considering the price you pay to stay here. The food in the restaurant was good but not for the price you pay for it.. and if you fancy a morning swim.. beware of the local regular swimmers who have very strict lane rules and will happily tell you where you can and cannot swim in the politest of manners. Kind of ruins the morning tranquil swim you might expect to have.
L. J.
Just back from 3rd year visit to this hotel on a coach break for 2 nights. Sadly we were disappointed this time not with staff but food & room. Firstly we would like to say all the staff are very friendly, helpful and nothing is any trouble, BUT think it is time for a refurbishment, the sink in our en -suite was badly cracked not very hygienic, the bathroom was clean but needed attention. Will say everything was clean & room cleaned well. Towels changed too, probably because we had no where to hang them to say we would use again. The room was very very hot and needed more light in the sitting area so that you could sit & read. Now on to food : breakfasts were fine no faults, staff helpful & attentive. Main meal: starters &: puddings ok but main course needs a lot to be desired - either overcooked meat/fish or undercooked, gammon was horrible roast potatoes think they were cooked earlier & warmed up. AND nearly missed the vegetables - one tiny floret of cauliflower first night, about 4 pieces of carrot next night. Come on chef thought we were suppose to have at least a decent amount of vegetables per meal. Won't be rushing back for the main meals & hope the coach company changes their hotel.Want to say we were not the only ones complaining about the food on our coach.
R. B.
Great food course all year round. Played several times, in varying weather and unfortunately with varying levels of satisfaction with my golf. Even playing it badly, the course is fun to play. It's really well maintained for a typical hotel course, well equipped and excellently staffed. Definitely recommend to Norfolk golfers, visitors to the area and anyone interested in the game.
M. D.
We stayed in the Nelson 4 poster sweet. The bath was huge and amazingly comfy bed. Great breakfast brought to the table. Pool was warm. Clean changing rooms. The staff are doing everything they can to ensure you have a lovely stay during covid times.
G. W.
Great hotel, comfy beds, gets a little warm in the summer, though they do provide mobile aircon units from reception. The restaurant is good, food always nice although the different chefs on shift can't agree on portions or presentation so depends who's on shift! :) not an issue as the taste is always great!
M. G.
Good place for resting and leisure with swimming pool gym spa jacuzzi and sauna is really relaxing place to stay . For golf lovers golf club nearby
B. B.
Our room was very hot they did supply fans breakfast was good , staff friendly and helpful .
M. M.
Superb service and very comfortable. I'm in the lucky position of benefitting from the rewards scheme and we had an upgrade to a suite. It was lovely. We had a couple of relaxing massages. The pool and fitness suite both looked very good though we didn't use them this time.
T. G.
Hotel was very clean and staff good, just not enough of them sadly... arrived at lunchtime but they were not serving lunch, directed us to the club house for bar snacks...only sausage rolls and steak slices, not great when you are are vegetarian!.. dining room extremely cold so opted to eat our meal in the bar area.. staff who were there were brilliant and I can't fault then... just not enough...
R. P.
always enjoy my time at Sprowston Manor have been a golf member for 25 years or so no where better. Best golf course all the year round in Norfolk.
L. D.
Christmas Party
80+ people for a set Christmas meal and DO for the evening.
The staff were friendly and attentive, the service was very efficient and the DJ got everyone up dancing so can recommend for a big get together/ event. The marque in the garden also had a live band that evening and also looked and sounded very very good!
Only disappointment was the food, it was edible and okay, but watery soup, fish overcooked and served with sprouts? Potatoes were cold and the mains very dry. You don't expect much for a huge set meal, but it had much to be desired.
Otherwise lovely staff and beautiful setting really lovely place.
t. g.
Great gym and pool
K. S.
We just popped in for a coffee in the clubhouse. The views were lovely and the staff very friendly.
f. F.
A great place to unwind, in the middle of a beautiful golf course, the spa and swimming pool is all you need after a work out in the hotel gym. The food is exquisite and the rooms are spacious. All in all a very nice place to stay.
B. C.
Very pleasant not so keen on 10am checkout though
m. b.
Room was good bed was big and massive pool area though was manic screaming children on swimming lessons lol so just make sure you call up first if you want calm as website doesn’t tell everything jacuzzi was hot hot hot .lovely setting great if you are a golfer which is why your there really
but if not you are limited if you can’t get in restaurant pub is 15 min walk main bar is only open evenings so golf club house will have to do you till then taxi to city is a tenner
A. A.
What an amazing, relaxing, friendly place to Stay when visiting Norwich..stayed 2 nights had a fantastic wkend here. Spotlessly clean room with large comfortable bed , Highly recommend a Stay here.. We have booked again for 2 wks time .
D. P.
The bedroom was extremely hot even with the radiators off. Breakfast was very poor with hard fried eggs, cool coffee and the bread for toast was still frozen. Other than that the general appearance of the hotel was good.
F. P.
Lovely room, clean and tidy throughout the establishment. Pleasant, polite and helpful staff. I attended a wedding over the weekend and everything went as planned. Would recommend to others to hold events there in the future.
B. B.
Excellent hotel, lovely room, evening meal superb. Breakfast is good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend, although drinks in the bar are expensive..
L. P.
I was here for a wedding recently. We werent in the main house but were in the marquee at the back. The marquee is really spacious and has proper toilets which were very clean. The food was delicious too.
R. M.
Enjoyed going to Sprowston Manor for lunch. Although we wanted to see if the spa was wheelchair accessible, what sadly it isn't. Although they did say that a spa service could be offered in our room. However I wasn't staying there. Had lunch over looking the golf course, sports tv in the part we was in with bar.
A. M.
Nice hotel with adjoining spa. Easy to book treatments. Hotel grounds would benefit from an overhaul but nevertheless pleasant to walk round. Just mind the golf balls.
E. M.
Have stayed here twice now. Both times in a family room. Nice clean rooms with space. Staff very helpful and welcoming. Restaurant food is delicious!
D. W.
Stayed on 6/3 on a groupon deal. Second time this year. Lovely room . Polite , jovial and efficient staff. Excellent food but could have been a bit hotter .
c. c.
Great wedding venue in their marquee and pergola, did a wedding shoot, lovely staff, and atmosphere!
M. B.
1st class spa experience.
S. L.
Looks great
S. K.
Only had drinks here - very expensive for 2 cokes!! Please ask your staff to clean there shoes they all looked so smart until their feet - looked like they had been helping to find golf balls in the bunkers!
P. R.
Very impressive day out on the golf course, well maintained and designed 👍🙂
M. H.
Just a good stay over when visiting family in Hoveton
A. B.
Golf course was good. Greens not bad, fairways wide. Tee boxes OK. Clubhouse and bar poor. Worth a society visit but other courses/ complexes close by are better.
R. R.
Such a stunning view from the outside if your willing to take a brisk walk around. Inside was just as breath taking. The staff are very welcoming. A most delightful place. A must for a short stay.
G. S.
Went for afternoon tea very nice and tasty excellent service
P. C.
Golf was fine but I thought that clubhouse bar really would have been OPEN
N. E.
Stayed 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. Good breakfast, very good spa/pool, and nice room.
B. Y.
Hotel lovely ,rooms very good very clean and comfortable ,leisure facility's good ,staffnice and polite.food in restaurant would not be worth one star ,disappointed at the menu choice and the food was even more disappointing
A. J.
I really loved this course , the facilities are great and the course was amazing ... great autumn rate at the course ... the welcome was really friendly in the pro shop by a fellow South African. I cannot recommend this course enough.
G. B.
Went on the driving range to hit a few shots,As have not played for a year or more,Went quite well not hitting big shots but ok looking forward to playing Sunday.

C. L.
Beautiful hotel, great facilities and lovely rooms... why 3 stars? The food is awful! Poor quality and overpriced
C. B.
Played on course during short Stay.. Well maintained and not too busy...

Visited here recently for a wake. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Food was excellent. The room was beautiful.
M. T.
Golf course in good condition and staff through out complex trying hard to give a good service, would return
S. N.
Good value golf when booked late on line. Nice and open fairways good for a beginner like me! Decent bar over looking course as well
R. G.
The hotel is outstanding in every way, including the restaurant. It is also in a great setting with open space and the golf club around it.
M. D.
£14.95 for a burger and it wasn't anything special. Grounds are well kept and clean. Good parking and nice place to visit.
B. B.

M. C.
Excellent accommodation spa and staff. Great breakfast. Good value if you book early
T. D.
Beautiful hotel with a fantastic room ... did not eat here but food looked lovely .. nice relaxing time spent here
P. S.
I parked up in the layby next to sprowston manor and in Google's eyes I have visited, I have been to sprowston manor and it is lovely but in this occasion I can only review the layby, it is ideal for parking a car or lorry and if you turn up through the morning there is an award winning bacon bap van parked up, the layby has a good entrance and exit and just next to it is the entrance to sprowston manor, it is mainly tarmac with gravel and muddy potholes with a grassy verge, there are many hedges and tree lined. Maybe if I visit sprowston manor in the future it will say I've visited this layby instead 🤔🤔
J. e.
Beautiful place to stay with great facilities, fantastic staff, and great food.
Couldn't want for any thing else.
S. P.

J. B.
Its a really nice place and enjoyed my stay really nice
S. K.
Lovely course, well maintained but rather damp in places after recent rain. Greens just been sanded so rather spoilt the putting.
P. G.
Hard to judge, as it was only a week after it had stopped being a Marriott hotel - a trusted name.
And somebody stole my spectacles from the pool changing room - so BEWARE!
M. W.
We stayed overnight for a charity ball held in the grounds. Very good bedroom, swimming pool and buffet breakfast.
