Reviews of Cumbria Strength & Conditioning

I started training here in 2015 because the range of equipment was different to other gyms in the area. Firstly attending the group classes in the gym which i really enjoyed - The atmosphere was great between people from all walks of life and fitness levels motivating each other.
After spending some time there i discovered how much knowledge the coaches Matty and Vicky have, not only for general health and well being but for optimizing the sporting performance of their clients. Since shortly after this i was delighted to add Matty to my training team as an active professional boxer. i train at this gym up to 3 times a week to supplement my sports training getting personalize programmes from Matty to help me optimize my performance as an athlete.
As a whole i would recommend this gym to everyone interested in starting a health and fitness journey or someone wanting to gain more from their potential as an athlete.
The gym has great members, great equipment and great coaches.

I've been training with Matty now for the best part of 4 years since turning professional at boxing. The gym has fantastic facilities but Matty's knowledge is really the strength of the gym. You can go to any Crossfit box and feel overwhelmed at the workouts that the regulars are doing but Cumbria S&C takes a more holistic approach to health and fitness. From general fitness classes and functional strength programmes to more targeted, more specific goals that an athlete may have there is something for everyone.
The gym has a really friendly atmosphere and everyone is welcome. Members even socialise outside of the gym utilising the close proximity to the Lake District for activities like paddle boarding. I feel like Matty has helped me twofold over the past 4 years, most obviously in a physical capacity, gaining strength and increasing fitness but I also feel like he has helped to develop my knowledge of some of the more fundamental and often dismissed aspects of athletic performance such as mobility, muscle activation and proprioception.
Top gym, highly recommended!

Been training with Matty since I was 11, so 5 years now. The personal training sessions have helped massively to prepare my body for the Olympic movements and get the correct form which has allowed me to start loading certain movements earlier than other people my age. He has also helped me through injury’s and helped prepare my body for the contact and physicality of rugby league and has been a huge part of my journey so far. Highly recommended for anyone looking to improve on themselves

Excellent gym, wether your a beginner or professional athlete Matty has you covered. Friendly, clean environment and quality coach in Matty (who happens to be a war hero) Cumbria Strength and conditioning is tailored to help you achieve your goals.

Fantastic gym, equipment & coaching staff. I suffer a lower back condition & my physio recommended Matty Green in 2017 saying - "Mark, you need to up your game". I found Matty very welcoming to CSC, an extremely knowledgable coach & very motivating with structured & varied PT classes which have significantly improved my core strength & stability.
Although I continue to be cautious I have become far less prone to reoccurring back problems & have also found myself much more capable of lifting & carrying heavy & awkward objects like paving slabs, coping stones & bags of cement.
I've also progressed to taking part in the conditioning & core classes with Vicky & Suzanne, currently on Zoom, which have also been excellent, very good for improving my general fitness in addition to core & mobility & good fun participating with other members.
I look forward to returning to CSC following the 3rd National Lockdown, hopefully sometime soon!

was a little nervous walking into the gym for the first time, it didn’t look like any other gym I’d ever been to! My nerves were settled the moment I met Matty, who greeted me with a handshake, knew my name and showed me where the toilet is! I was hooked from the very first class!
My gym experience before CSC was like a lot of people’s, too many machines, too many mirrors and I hadn’t got a clue! Finding CSC after many soul destroying (and frankly boring) gym sessions and classes was a revelation! The classes are well thought out, well taught, varied and challenging.
The coaches are well trained, dedicated and most important of all, approachable. They are generous with their time and advise and we are well looked after. They care about us and in turn we care about them.
Throughout the various lockdowns and restrictions, Matty and Vicky have gone above and beyond to make sure we are hanging on in there and it is very much appreciated!
If you are after an enjoyable, challenging and welcoming gym experience where you can have a laugh, a swear and work hard with a great bunch of people who truly make you feel like you belong get yourself to CSC!

Brilliant clean and tidy gym, good range of equipment to use. Friendly and very knowledgeable coaches who are supportive of their members. Welcoming friendly gym for all to use, from beginners to advanced.

Great gym with a fantastic welcoming atmosphere. Matty knows his stuff, he is passionate and you are guaranteed to get the best results with him as your coach.

I actually don’t know where to start. I can never recommend this gym enough.
I am ex forces and was medically discharged from the forces due to my back. At the age of 24 they told me the tale that I’d be in a wheelchair by 40 if I carried on so here’s our goodbyes. If there were more knowledgable people around like Matty and Vicky I truly believe I would not have left the forces prematurely and this would stop happening within the forces let alone anywhere else.
This gym opened as I was going through another bad spell and I have never looked back. I think that Matty having gone through pain himself really has pushed himself to ensure he’s one knowledgable guy and also understanding. The gym itself never feels out of place to anybody. It couldn’t be friendlier. There is always something for people to get in on and you become part of a family. I feel this gym is a way of life and not just for Christmas 😜. Get in on it.

CSC is great place to belong to with an energetic atmosphere and a strong sense of community. Matt and Vicky ha ve a wealth of knowledge and experience which they enthusiastically share both during classes and direct consultations. A wide variety of equipment is made available, some of which were lent to members during the COVID lockdown. This level of generosity is something that your normal commerical may struggle to offer.
Awesome place, awesome people!
