Reviews of David Lloyd Brighton

Signed up a couple of weeks ago as a family of 5 with young children and have found the club nothing more than fantastic and welcoming. Plenty of availability on classes and a really clean facility. The kids club is great and the kids love the activities. Swimming pool, steam room and sauna is all fully working and clean. Most equipment in the gym is available with plenty of machines to handle busy periods. The staff are really helpful and friendly.

My favourite gym I’ve ever joined and the staff are the best! Let down only by the opening hours (not enough time for people who work late and weekends), tiny lockers (I take two padlocks and split my bag and other belongings), freezing cold changing rooms and not enough stools for the mirrors? If these things were amended would be an absolute 10/10!

A fantastic club all round!
Very rarely do we share our results of our reviews directly on Google, however this time it is called for.
On today's visit (17/01/2022) all areas of the review have returned either 9/10 or 10/10

Very well done David Lloyd!

I joined after the spa facilities had been revamped in Dec 2021. Its the most expensive gym membership I’ve had but it’s not too difficult to see why. The place is always extremely clean and the staff are always very friendly.

One of the smallest clubs which is reflected in the membership price. Even with the new £1 million upgrade there aren’t many outstanding changes. The Assault bikes are situated downstairs which can’t be used during their new Delta sessions which is inconvenient, they should have at least one assault bike upstairs. The staff have never been particularly helpful or friendly. The new sauna is nowhere near as hot as any other clubs and the jacuzzi is like a cold bath with no bubbles.

I have been a member of this club for almost 20 years now, and for reference, have used other David Lloyds facilities in Worthing, Reading, Woking, and Maidenhead.
I've noticed a lot of aggressively negative feedback about Brighton DL for the past year or so, and thought I would try to give my 2 cents. I think some of it is a bit unfair/exaggerated for dramatic effect.
First, Brighton David Lloyds really shines with respect to the fact the club has a very positive atmosphere, extremely friendly staff, a larger selection of cardio equipment than other gyms. It also has a very high standard of hygiene and cleanliness. I still really enjoy coming here. Never had any issues with staff or other members, and the layout and design of the gym is unique and fun to use.
So why just 3 stars?
Firstly, the shorter opening hours (down by 1:30 hrs since pre-lockdown.... and post-lockdown, all clubs I know of in the South open 1 hour longer than Brighton).... If you commute, work later hours, or just don't want to share space, competing for resources with a bunch of wound up post work *****,, you will not like this gym. There are much more affordable options which open 24 hours in Brighton, so it seems like a huge oversight on management's part to not offer Brighton members a more flexible usage experience. Why do Worthing (closest alternative DL) get normal opening hours? Strange and confusing.
The next problem is the recent standard of maintenance. The aircon was broken for months last summer. Management did not make any effort to reassure their members, or offer some form of small compensation. As you will see, other reviewers have complained of ongoing issues with the pool in 2022. These issues seem to be addressed more quickly, but I think a lot of people are still clinging on to the disappointing experiences we had in 2021. On a positive note, the new gym equipment is awesome, and currently in excellent working order following the refurb, so that's one big plus :)
Despite these issues, I feel things have got better this year. I'd encourage prospective new members to not be completely dissuaded by the negative reviewers. Visit and judge for yourself. The Brighton club has a more unique feel than other David Lloyds, and if you are an avoid gym goer or swimmer, it is definitely worth your consideration.
