Reviews of David Lloyd Bristol Long Ashton
C. H.
Nice gym with a soft play and play area for little ones.
Good coffee and restaurant area and the new business hub is a welcome addition.
The staff are friendly and I'm happy with my membership here.
Would be 5 stars but a lot of customers do not seem to wear masks and the male changing room showers can at times be messy.
That being said it's a great gym/health centre with a range of features. I'll be back!!

Been as a guest and it's a really decent gym for all round health. Modern equipment, clean and well maintained. Indoor and out door pool with steamroom and sauna. Plenty of courts for all your racket needs. Bar/cafe for relaxing and a work room if ya need to do some business. Will be getting my own. Membership soon.

Attended alone with 4 kids, (2x girl & 2 x boy). Nice club and friendly staff. Main pool & outdoor pool. Shame our session collided with an adult class which took over 80% of pool during school holidays. Terrible family changing room situation though - I didn’t want to split us up so we had to use the only baby changer room! Hope they can think of families more at next refurb. But overall a good experience and would certainly recommend!

I was in Bristol for 1 month, Jordan was outstanding and left a really good impression. He looked after me every time I came in and definitely deserves a promotion.

Great facilities.
Excellent for kids. My 3yr old loves it.
As a parent, they offer great facilities to entertain your kid while you exercise.
Love the outdoor pool.
D. W.
Way too blokey and lots of oafs smashing huge weights on to the floor.
Apart from the lovely pool and excellent facilities, the bar, the outside areas, and even the service and food and drink, there is a strange clash of people and policies. In the outside training zone (Battlebox) there is no music allowed for sessions so that's not very good. And the poolside (apart from a few weeks last summer (2021) when they put some music on and opened the poolside bar for the first time since the war, to liven the place up) is very quiet and can seem boring. By contrast, some of the indoor class instructors turn music up so high it distorts and then screech over the top of it.
The price at full monthly rate is about right for the facilities but it's still high, and with a high price comes privileged people who can be noticeably rude and arrogant when it comes to things like sharing equipment, queuing at the bar, loud mobile phone conversations, etc.
If you want calm and concentration in your workout and leisure facility you'll have to try and ignore a lot of rude and arrogant people as well as the oafs.
WiFi is no good.

Really enjoyed my visit to the club whilst down visiting relatives in Bath - staff are really nice and the gym has an unusual layout but good atmosphere, West Country people are just the best !
K. D.
Nice place, very busy as expected on a Saturday morning but you could swim easily in the fast lane. Disappointing the outdoor pool was too cold. Did 2 lengths but it took my breath away it was so cold. Was looking forward to going in the outdoor pool as a guest to the area. Maybe next time

Played indoor tennis here. Nice courts good surface but access to some of the more distant courts is difficult if you have a large sports bag. Why they built this with such narrow passageways I don't know. Friendly staff and the new led lighting is great. Always plenty of parking too!
J. 1.
Good facilities, clean, helpful staff. Everything you need. I would have probably preferred a slightly different layout in the gym as it is a little strange with the pool in the middle - but I'm being very picky!

Great place to relax and unwind after a day's work..

Both of us have been members at David Lloyd Long Ashton for many years and have always found the staff helpful and happy. Emma Hill in particular always doing her best and helping out where needed. There always seems to be a nice atmosphere about the place. Andrew and Anne.

Brilliant place, nicely tucked away from the busy city life aswell.
Great place to kick back and unwind from a busy day

It is a great friendly team at Long Ashton and always very welcoming. Very impressed with how they dealt with the difficult period during lockdowns and excellent organisation from Emma to get us back on the tennis courts.
P. H.
I visited the David Lloyd Centre today as a guest for tennis. Its huge. Many tennis courts, some squash courts(don't know how many) huge gym with every imaginable torture machine going, lots of staff, lots of people, a large cafe, leisure area and so on. Love the indoor tennis courts, hate working out, but for those who do, this seems to be the place to be. Frightfully swish but friendly.
N. B.
Great swimming pools, good gym but ordering a coffee... very slow service, the coffee was cold and its so expensive
C. H.
Excellent facilities as expected for the price, son loved the available boxing equipment; would have joined him up if it was easily reachable without a car.

This place needs to be refurbished asap! The Changing rooms and dining area looks so old. Gyms which costs you £20 a month has better changing rooms. I also don’t get the swimming pool in the middle of the gym with equipments all around it. I know that you can’t move the swimming pool now but some kind of window shields might help your customers feel more relaxed. The outside swimming pool is lush but almost always full of kids screaming and jumping into the water and splashing all over you while you are trying to sunbathe by the pool. I get this is a family place but what about the people who came to relax? Guys make this place what people are paying you for I think you owe this to them.
K. R.
I was very impressed with all the safety measures in place. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially in the coffee shop very thorough with wiping things down between customers. Just very sad we are going into lockdown again because I felt really safe while there
H. T.
This place has given me so many GAINS. There isn't as much equipment as you would think there should be for a place like this. Some days I can't do something cuz there's only one of something. But I love going....
J. J.
If this wasn't the only game in town (at least my end of town) I wouldn't go. Staff are generally pleasant enough but the whole place feels slack. There's a seemingly incurable smell around the toilets and wash basins in female changing area, and an accumulation of niggles contributes to my feelings about the place. There is no proper pedestrian access, and the site is geared to motorists. Despite a huge roof area, there is no solar water heating. The restaurant is so-so with a slight aroma of stale milk; it is also slow, even for simple menu items. The outdoor pool is fine - probably the best feature. Little to say about the gym - seems to work OK.

Great gym and pools with friendly members. I got free trials for several gyms around bristol and this one was by far the best for me.
There are times when weights need putting back and not everyone will be happy to see the range of different alternative types of equipment, however I like the flexibility to try new exercises and I also think it attracts a range of different people to try this gym-it's not all about benches and barbells and classic types of gym equipment. Lots to try keeps things fresh.
For those reasons, plus great out of the way location, plenty of space and decent club area, I can live with weights that are not always put away.
5 stars for this one.
C. B.
Great club. Dinging them only for minor things - the food in the cafe could be better, every once in a while something takes a little while to get repaired, etc. But very happy with the family here. Nice to have this facility to get active with the kids (swimming, tennis, squash) when the weather is bad.
D. R.
Big gym with lots of equipment, good heated pools with sauna & steam room. Food tastes great👍🏽 …
K. W.
Pool was lovely and the whole place is really clean. The food was pretty unspectacular. £10 for a vegan burger which was bland, dry and definitely not worth the money was a big disappointment.
S. K.
Great gym and probably the best place in Bristol for indoor tennis. Both the inside and outside pool are really nice and the cardio equipment especially for running and cycling are top of the line. Good detail is the cable tv on the running and cycling machines. Would be a five star if it wasn't that expensive...
S. M.
Gym area and new equipment looks great. Good to see staff constantly cleaning equipment.
Felt well maintained and safe.
M. S.
I have been a member of David Lloyd since 2003 and have used this club the most over this time. I have seen the changing rooms refurbished three times from memory (with minimal improvement each time), and until recently the equipment was becoming very tired as alluded to by another reviewer. One thing that used to baffle me was their inability to keep the Concept II rowers serviceable with about 4 out of 5 out of use for one reason or another. This review would at that time have merited 1*.
However, they have recently spent a further £1.4M on refurbishment. This has replaced just about all of the kit. Sadly, they have blown much of the budget on faddy and expensive machines, but they have also replaced the barbells and provided some new stands and platforms. Overall it is a noticeable improvement but it is let down by a lack of attention to detail. The layout of the place is illogical and makes poor use of space. Upstairs, free weights are intermingled with - and separated by - cable machines and cardio devices (with a glorified climbing frame in the middle). One often has to traverse the areas and get in the way of other people to harvest enough disks, collars etc before starting the sets. One of the flat benches sits at an angle and clearly has not been assembled correctly.
Ventilation is poor and one often has to turn a large floor-mounted fan on. The music is loud (too loud to concentrate on the lifts sometimes) and there are televisions on most walls. Priorities seem to be skewed.
There are also gaps in capability. I asked for a standing calf machine but the idea was pooh-poohed. There are not enough collars. A few more bars and disks wouldn't go amiss given that they're relatively cheap and last forever. A glute-ham raise apparatus would be welcome addition also.
Downstairs is a further large area of resistance machines that hardly anybody seems to use.
Gym etiquette is lacking. Almost nobody puts their weights away and there are numerous eejits who think it is cool to repeatedly drop a loaded barbell on the floor during their sets for no good reason. Some coaching and supervision might be appropriate.

Amazing facility with outstanding staff, would highly recommend 👌 …
S. B.
Gym Machines are not properly maintained and are falling apart to the point of being dangerous at times.
2 out of 4 rowing machine broken today!
Air con is sporadic if it works
Toilets not cleaned regularly enough.
No provision for cyclists
W. B.
The gym great. Plenty of nice equipment, good pools, nice cafe. Good place to work out. Toilets and changing could do with better ventilation but overall pretty good.
D. M.
Really good facilities including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, large selection of workout machines and weights. DL cafe serves great food to. Free parking.
